Block polymer self-assembly typically translates molecular chain connectivity into mesoscale structure by exploiting incompatible blocks with large interaction parameters (χij). In this article, we demonstrate that the converse approach, encoding low-χ interactions in ABC bottlebrush triblock terpolymers (χAC [Formula: see text] 0), promotes organization into a unique mixed-domain lamellar morphology, which we designate LAMP Transmission electron microscopy indicates that LAMP exhibits ACBC domain connectivity, in contrast to conventional three-domain lamellae (LAM3) with ABCB periods. Complementary small-angle X-ray scattering experiments reveal a strongly decreasing domain spacing with increasing total molar mass. Self-consistent field theory reinforces these observations and predicts that LAMP is thermodynamically stable below a critical χAC, above which LAM3 emerges. Both experiments and theory expose close analogies to ABA' triblock copolymer phase behavior, collectively suggesting that low-χ interactions between chemically similar or distinct blocks intimately influence self-assembly. These conclusions provide fresh opportunities for block polymer design with potential consequences spanning all self-assembling soft materials.

Discovery of new electrochemical redox motifs is essential to expand the design landscape for energy-dense batteries. We report a family of fluorinated reactants based on pentafluorosulfanyl arenes (R-Ph-SF5) that allow for high electron-transfer numbers (up to 8-e−/reactant) by exploiting multiple coupled redox processes, including extensive S–F bond breaking, yielding capacities of 861 mAh·greactant−1 and voltages up to ∼2.9 V when used as catholytes in primary Li cells. At a cell level, gravimetric energies of 1,085 Wh·kg−1 are attained at 5 W·kg−1 and moderate temperatures of 50 °C, with 853 Wh·kg−1 delivered at >100 W·kg −1, exceeding all leading primary batteries based on electrode + electrolyte (substack) mass. Voltage compatibility of R-Ph-SF5 reactants and carbon monofluoride (CFx) conversion cathodes further enabled investigation of a hybrid battery containing both fluorinated catholyte and cathode. The hybrid cells reach extraordinarily high cell active mass loading (∼80%) and energy (1,195 Wh·kg−1), allowing for significant boosting of substack gravimetric energy of Li−CFx cells by at least 20% while exhibiting good shelf life and safety characteristics. The dications obtained by two-electron oxidation of E-4,4'-bis-[di(p-anisyl)amino]stillbene and E,E-2,5-bis{4-]di(p-anisyl)amino]styryl}-3,4-di(n-butoxy)thiophene are isolated and the structural data of the bis(triarylamine) dications are reported. Both are found to be ground state singlets and their geometries indicate a shift in the bond lengths toward a quinoidal pattern, but not to a fully quinoidal extent.

An analysis of the intervalence charge-transfer (IVCT) band of (E)-4,4'-Bis{bis(4-methoxyphenyl)amino}stilbene (1) , which is narrow and asymmetric and exhibits only weak solvatochromism, indicates that 1(supper +) is a class-III or classII/III borderline mixed-valence(MV) species. The narrowness, asymmetry, and solvatochromism of the IVCT band of the 4,4'-bis(di-p-anisylamino)stilbene MV cation, (E)-4,4'-Bis{bis(4-methoxyphenyl)amino}stilbene(super +), indicates that this species falls into a similar regime of delocaliztion as bis(diarylamino)biphenyl cations.

This paper examines the phenomenon of 'functional music' and its evolution as a social technology in the control and regulation of work, consumption, and public space. It argues that the practices of functional music articulate some of the characteristic ways in which power is exercised in capitalist societies and, moreover, that changes in the functional music industry indicate wider structural shifts in capitalism toward 'post-Fordist' regimes of production and consumption. Through an analysis of the history, forms, and discourses of functional music, this paper examines the cultural and political significance of these transformations.

Postsynthetic modification of a porous MOF, [Zn.sub.4]O[(trans-4,4'-stilbene dicarboxylate).sub.3], with [Br.sub.2] has resulted in diastereoselective bromination of the stilbene units. X-ray and diffraction and [N.sub.2] sorption studies have shown that partial bromination has increased the stability of the interpenetrated MOF structure.

An electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy and the first comparison of thermal and optical electron-transfer (ET) in bis(triarylamine) mixed-valence (MV) radical cations are reported. The results from comparison revealed that the diabatic ET distance in class-II MV triarylamine species with conjugated bridging groups are considerably less than the N-N separation, while the variable temperature (VT)-ESR data indicated that the ET in the amine-based MV compound are adiabatic.

An observation that tris(ester) derivatives of hexaazatrinaphthylene (HATNA) obtained as a statistical mixture of the two possible isomers, in contrast to previous obtained 2,18,14-isomer is presented. The presence of two isomers could have important implications for films morphology and effective mobility.
