The effect of solid lubricants, viz. MoS2and graphite (Gr) particulate reinforcement, on the dry sliding wear behavior of Al/B4C/MoS2and Al/B4C/Gr hybrid metal matrix composites (HMMCs) was investigated. Composite specimen was fabricated through stir casting route. Dry sliding wear behavior was studied as per ASTM G99-17 standard using pin-on-disk test rig. Taguchi’s L27orthogonal array was used to plan the experimental trials. The obtained results were analyzed using main effect plots and analysis of variance (ANOVA). It was observed that wear rate was found to increase with the increase in wear parameters studied. The variation in wear rate was significant with the increase in temperature and applied load compared to sliding distance and velocity. ANOVA results revealed that wear parameters were statistically significant. Regression models were presented to correlate the wear rate with wear parameters, and established models were found to be adequate and feasible to predict response. The worn surface analysis employed using SEM images revealed that delamination and plastic deformation were dominant on Al/B4C/MoS2hybrid composite. While groove and crater formed due to plowing, delamination and plastic deformation were more prevalent on the worn surface of Al/B4C/Gr hybrid composite. Subsequently, it suggests that Al/B4C/MoS2offers better wear resistance compared to Al/B4C/Gr MMC.

The jet erosion of fibre reinforced plastics (FRPs) has been reported in many literatures available, but very few have reported on their slurry erosion behaviour of FRPs. Furthermore, limited studies have paid attention on slurry erosion characterisation of filler incorporated FRPs. Hence, present study was focused on slurry erosion behaviour of alumina fillers incorporated glass/epoxy composites. The parameters considered were slurry concentration, contact angle and impact velocity. The experimental results reveal that increase in filler percentage increased the erosion resistance of glass/epoxy composites. The increase in slurry concentration and impact velocity has resulted in higher amount of erosion of studied composites. The material loss due to erosion increased with increase of impact angle till 45°, whereas further increase in impact angle caused reduction in wear. Erosion mechanisms were studied through SEM image of eroded samples. Worn surface analysis revealed that plastic deformation, matrix debonding with microcutting, microploughing, and pulverisation were dominant erosion mechanisms at 45° to 60° impact angle.
