Abstract

NIV (Non-invasive ventilation) and HFNC (High Flow nasal cannula) are being used in patients with acute respiratory failure. HACOR score has been exclusively calculated for patients on NIV, on other hand ROX index is being used for patients on HFNC. This is first study where ROX index has been used in patients on NIV to predict failure.

Abstract

Childhood hypertension (HTN) is becoming one of the most important health concerns in children, and it is the most important predictor of adult HTN. The objective was to assess the level of knowledge and to develop and validate questionnaires about childhood HTN among final-year medical students. This facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2018 to September 2018 in 5 teaching hospitals of Central India. A total of 383 interviews were conducted by non-probability purposive sampling using a validated tool. Exploratory factor analysis was used to assess the validity of the questionnaire, and internal consistency of items was assessed with Cronbach α. A total of 26 items were finalized through consensus. The Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin (KMO) measure of sample adequacy was measures of sampling adequacy (MSA) = 0.83, and Bartlett's test of sphericity was (x2 = 15.89, P =.014). This study shows that the tool developed had acceptable validity and reliability to assess the knowledge about childhood HTN among undergraduate medical students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Thrombosis of the internal jugular vein (IJV) is common postoperatively and various factors are attributed to the development of thrombosis. Central venous catheters, protein C, S deficiency, and hypercoagulable state are few to mention. Although thrombosis of IJV due to malposition chest drain is a rare entity, we report the case of an 11-month-old male case of tetralogy of Fallot postintracardiac repair presented with swelling of the right side of the face and neck.

Abstract

Background: The result of increased occlusal stresses might be fractures in the teeth. It is still unclear how possible risk factors may affect the occurrence of tooth cracks after dental implants with prostheses in nonendodontically restored teeth. Aim: To evaluate the correlation of dental implants with prostheses as a risk factor for the development of cracks in teeth restored nonendodontically. Materials and Methods: Records of 414 patients with 570 teeth who underwent tooth restoration nonendodontically were obtained. The data was obtained regarding the number of implants with prostheses placed before the diagnosis of cracks in nonendodontically treated teeth, the time interval between placement of dental implants, and appearance of cracks in teeth, location of dental implants with respect to cracked tooth. Results: Cracks in tooth was observed in 160 teeth out of 570 teeth evaluated (28.07%) and 144 patients out of 414 patients (34.78%). It was observed that out of 160 teeth with cracks, 66 teeth (41.25%) had cracks after placement of dental implants with prosthesis. Conclusion: Placement of a dental implant with a prosthesis can be a risk factor for appearing cracks in teeth treated nonendodontically. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background: The usual procedure for nasolacrimal duct obstruction is dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). Flap‑based DCR techniques lead to better surgical outcome provided flaps do not dislocate in the post‑operative period. Objectives: This study was conducted to compare gelfoam with merocel tamponade for fixation of mucosal flaps in endoscopic DCR. Materials and Method: Merocel tamponade was used for fixation of flaps in 26 patients. Gelfoam was used in 26 patients, and surgical results were compared. Results: The surgical success rate was greater in merocel tamponade fixation with less complications. Conclusion: Merocel tamponade can be used successfully for mucosal flap fixation in endoscopic DCR for better surgical outcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
