Abstract

Activated carbon has a huge demand for its broad applications in batteries, supercapacitors, wastewater treatment, etc. Activated carbon possesses a porous morphology, which facilitates its enhanced thermal stability, and surface area. Researchers employing agro-waste have focused on meeting the high demand of low-cost activated carbon production. This paper reports coconut-shell-derived activated carbon prepared by the thermal and chemical activation processes. The prepared samples are investigated for their structural, morphological, elemental composition, electrochemical properties, and functional groups. The prepared samples evidenced the amorphous nature, and some graphitic disordered, as confirmed by the x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman investigations. The morphological analysis demonstrated the formation of a nanoflakes-like structure; however, another sample prepared with chemical activation endorsed the porous carbon nanostructures. Abstract

Polymer Nanocomposite Laboratory, Material Physics Division, School of Advanced Sciences, VIT University, Vellore-632 014, Tamilnadu, India E-mail : varadgm@gmail.com The mixture of conducting carbon black (CCB) and nickel oxide (NiO) were prepared by solid solution method. The interfacial impact over controlled NiO was identified by various tools. The electrical analysis was performed to calculate the capacitance, impedance, and conductance. This solid solution exhibit an excellent capacitive property under wide range of frequency. The result also demonstrates that the electrical parameters are not only affecting by controlled NiO but also an external DC bias potential. This property can be useful for the application as one of the best electrolyte material.

13. Some thermodynamic aspects of the high-temperature transition in doped V2O3

Abstract

Measurements of the entropy change are reported for the high-temperature metal-insulator (MI) transitions in the (V1-xCrx)2O3 and (V1-xAlx)2O3 systems. It is emphasized that the entropy of the I phase exceeds that of the M phase. Evidence is presented to show that the M and I phases coexist over a narrow temperature range. The transformation is attended by enormous hysteresis effects; these indicate that the lattice plays an important role in the transition. The probable role of Cr3+ and Al3+ as a dopant in the V2O3 lattice is briefly discussed. A phase diagram for the dilute V2O3-Al2O3 alloy system is presented.

14. Thermodynamic analysis of the metal-insulator transitions in V2O3alloy systems

Abstract

An overview is presented concerning the entropies (ΔS) and enthalpies (ΔH) associated with metal-insulator transitions in the (V1−xMx)2O3M=Al, Cr, Ti systems, 0⩽x⩽0·12 and in non-stoichiometric V2(1 −y)O3, 0⩽y⩽0·01. The recent literature and new data are analyzed with respect to gradiations in ΔHand ΔSwithxory, and their implications concerning the mechanism of the transitions. A revised phase diagram is presented.
