Abstract

This article introduces a model-driven engineering (MDE) integrated development environment (IDE) for Data-Intensive Cloud Applications (DIA) with iterative quality enhancements. As part of the H2020 DICE project (ICT-9-2014, id 644869), a framework is being constructed and it is composed of a set of tools developed to support a new MDE methodology. One of these tools is the IDE which acts as the front-end of the methodology and plays a pivotal role in integrating the other tools of the framework. The IDE enables designers to produce from the architectural structure of the general application along with their properties and QoS/QoD annotations up to the deployment model. Administrators, quality assurance engineers or software architects may also run and examine the output of the design and analysis tools in addition to the designer in order to assess the DIA quality in an iterative process.

Abstract

The well-known problem of state space explosion in model checking is even more critical when applying this technique to programming languages, mainly due to the presence of complex data structures. One recent and promising approach to deal with this problem is the construction of an abstract and correct representation of the global program state allowing to match visited states during program model exploration. In particular, one powerful method to implement abstract matching is to fill the state vector with a minimal amount of relevant variables for each program point. In this paper, we combine the on-the-fly model-checking approach (incremental construction of the program state space) and the static analysis method called influence analysis (extraction of significant variables for each program point) in order to automatically construct an abstract matching function. Firstly, we describe the problem as an alternation-free value-based mu-calculus formula, whose validity can be checked on the program model expressed as a labeled transition system (LTS). Secondly, we translate the analysis into the local resolution of a parameterised boolean equation system (PBES), whose representation enables a more efficient construction of the resulting abstract matching function. Abstract

Multiloculated hydrocephalus constitutes a challenging pathology due to intracerebral haemorrhage or ventriculitis leading to iterative shunt revision frequently described in paediatric neurosurgery, but poorly reported in adults. Nevertheless, this potential complication of intraventricular haemorrhage, already drained in emergency, should be considered with special interest, as ideal management of cerebrospinal drainage remains debated in such situation. Abstract

Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), enables the automation of several deployment, configuration and management tasks. IaC has a lot of potential in cloud computing as it results in a significant saving of time when an application needs to be redeployed on a different set of resources, even running on different infrastructures. Unfortunately, IaC still suffers from some important issues, such as the large variety of competing tools or the strong orientation toward the cloud, leaving aside e.g. the edge. Also, trustworthiness and security aspects of are often left for the end of the cycle, where errors and vulnerabilities are often too late or too expensive to correct.We present here the PIACERE project, which provides tools, methods and techniques for the Infrastructure-as-Code approach. The project will make the creation of IaC more accessible to designers, developers and operators, increasing the quality, security, trustworthiness and evolvability of infrastructural code while ensuring its business continuity by providing self-healing mechanisms anticipation of failures and violations.

41. Application of a Near-infrared Spectroscope by an Extreme Forward Medical Team for the Triage of Casualties With Traumatic Brain Injury.

Abstract

Background During deployment of military medical teams similarly to prehospital practice, without immediate computed tomography scan access, identifying patients requiring neuro-specific care to manage pragmatic triage proves crucial. We assessed the contribution of this portable near-infrared spectroscope (NIRS) handheld device, Infrascanner Model 2000 (InfraScan Inc.; Philadelphia, PA), to screen patients suspected to require specific neurosurgical care. Materials and methods This single-center retrospective analysis was based on the data from the medical records of the traumatic brain injured patients. We analyzed all the patients strictly over 18 years old presenting a clinical history of traumatic brain injury (TBI) with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) < 15. Results Thirty-seven medical records of patients admitted for TBI met the inclusion criteria for our analysis. The median GCS was 9 [3-14]. Eight patients (21.6%) underwent neurosurgery and 25 (67.6%) required intensive care unit (ICU) admission, after initial assessment and resuscitation. The NIRS was the most sensible to detect intracranial hematoma (n  = 21), intracranial hematoma leading to surgery (n  = 8), and intracranial hematoma leading to admission in ICU (n  = 25). Its negative predictive value was 100% regarding hematomas leading to surgery. False-positive results were encountered in 10 cases (27.0%). Excluding cases harboring confounding extracranial hematomas, parietal area was still the most represented (n  = 3). Conclusion The NIRS was relevant to detect hematoma leading to prompt surgery in our study. The lack of specificity in a nonselected cohort of patients underlines the need to associate simple clinical feature such as neurological deficit and NIRS results to perform rational triage. Abstract

Presented at the 8th International Physical Internet Conference (IPIC 2021) 14-16 June 2021, Virtual, Ports play an important role in global supply chains. The use of IoT is considered a key feature for port operators to improve the efficiency of port operations, to be able to better manage (container goods) traffic, to empower their workforces increasing throughput and to decrease carbon emissions while making traffic safer. In addition, smart IoT solutions support automation and intelligent transport control to realize the physical Internet. The R&D project I²PANEMA helps ports to become (a network of) smart ports by exploring and demonstrating the applicability of IoT technologies. With this approach, I²PANEMA aims to make ports more efficient and sustainable by introducing IoT based measures such as Active Noise Control systems and keeping pollution (like noise, dust) under control while promoting multimodal transport as part of the physical internet. Case studies from the project show the possibilities for developing ports in Physical Internet Nodes.
