Abstract Aim The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the attitudes and experiences of the medical staff regarding the hospital bed‐sharing model. Design The present research was a qualitative study. Methods This qualitative study used in‐depth individual interviews with 7 doctors, 10 clinical nurses and 3 head nurses, which were then transcribed and analysed thematically. Results The study identified six overall themes. Issues were raised about the efficient utilization of hospital bed resources, greater challenges for nursing work, adjustment of doctors' work modes, barriers to communication between doctors, nurses, and patients, potential medical risks, and differentiation of patients' medical experience. Implications for Nursing Management Hospital administrators and nurse managers should work together to solve the challenges that medical staff face, including strengthening nursing training, improving medical–nursing collaboration models, standardizing and effective communication strategies, and improving patient experiences.

A bioactivity-guided separation strategy was used to identify novel antistroke compounds from Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R. Br., a medicinal plant. As a result, 4 undescribed compounds (1–2, 13, and 17) and 13 known compounds, including 1 new natural product (3), were isolated from G. conopsea. The structures of these compounds were elucidated through comprehensive spectroscopic techniques, such as 1D/2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS), and quantum chemical calculations. An oxygen–glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R)-injured rat pheochromocytoma (PC12) cell model was used to evaluate the antistroke effects of the isolates. Compounds 1–2, 10–11, 13–15, and 17 provided varying degrees of protection against OGD/R injury in the PC12 cells at concentrations of 12.5, 25, and 50 µM. Among the tested compounds, compound 17 demonstrated the most potent neuroprotective effect, which was equivalent to that of the positive control drug (edaravone). Then, transcriptomic and bioinformatics analyses were conducted to reveal the regulatory effect of compound 17 on gene expression. In addition, quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) was performed to verify the results of the transcriptomic and bioinformatics analyses. These results suggest that the in vitro antistroke effect of compound 17 may be associated with the regulation of the Col27a1 gene. Thus, compound 17 is a promising candidate for the development of novel antistroke drugs derived from natural products, and this topic should be further studied.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Despite significant advances in current drug therapies, issues such as poor drug targeting and severe side effects persist. In recent years, nanomedicine has been extensively applied in the research and treatment of CVDs. Among these, biomembrane-modified biomimetic nanodrug delivery systems (BNDSs) have emerged as a research focus due to their unique biocompatibility and efficient drug delivery capabilities. By modifying with biological membranes, BNDSs can effectively reduce recognition and clearance by the immune system, enhance biocompatibility and circulation time in vivo, and improve drug targeting. This review first provides an overview of the classification and pathological mechanisms of CVDs, then systematically summarizes the research progress of BNDSs in the treatment of CVDs, discussing their design principles, functional characteristics, and clinical application potential. Finally, it highlights the issues and challenges faced in the clinical translation of BNDSs.

High-resolution three-dimensional VP, VS and VP/VS images in the Houziyan Reservoir Area were obtained by using Fast Marching Tomography Package (FMTOMO) with the travel time data from 6330 seismic events monitored by the Houziyan Reservoir Seismic Network. This analysis yielded the 3-D velocity structure, including longitudinal wave velocity (VP), shear wave velocity (VS), and the ratio of longitudinal and shear wave velocity (VP/VS) at different impoundment stages. The data changes at various impoundment times, depths of sections, and directions of profiles were analyzed to obtain these results. The final findings demonstrate the following results: 1) Through tomographic analysis, it was determined that the underground velocity structure in the Houziyan reservoir area was anisotropic before impoundment. 2) The area of high wave velocity increases in stage 1, stage 3, and stage 4. The area of low wave velocity increases in stage 2, especially in depth, indicating significant changes in the underground velocity structure at different impoundment stages. 3) Compared to the changes in underground velocity structures in other reservoirs after impoundment, the Houziyan reservoir exhibited a unique pattern. 4) In general, the underground velocity structure displayed an overall increasing trend after impoundment. However, it also exhibited instances of decreasing velocity, reflecting continuous dynamic adjustments to the underground velocity structure after impoundment. These conclusions highlight the impact of impoundment in the reservoir area on the underground velocity structure and provide scientific theoretical support for seismic risk assessment following impoundment in the reservoir area.

The incidence of cervical cancer ranks third among all female tumours globally and second in developing countries. However, the role of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit D (EIF3D) in cervical carcinoma is unknown. This study investigated the effects of EIF3D on cell progression of cervical carcinoma and its underlying mechanism in vivo and vitro models. There were increases of EIF3D expression mRNA and protein expression levels in patients with cervical carcinoma. Disease-free survival (DFS) and overall surviva (OS) of EIF3D lower expression in patients with cervical carcinoma was higher than those of EIF3D higher expression. EIF3D mRNA expression levels in cervical carcinoma cell lines (AV3, Hela229, CaSki and Hela cells) were up-regulated, compared with cervical normal cell line (UVECs). EIF3D promoted cell growth and Warburg effect in vitro model of cervical carcinoma. EIF3D interacting with GRP78 to reduce the activity of GRP78 in vitro model of cervical carcinoma. The inhibition of GRP78 reduced the effects of EIF3D on Warburg effect in vitro model of cervical carcinoma. Our work identifies EIF3D promoted cell growth and Warburg effect in vitro model of cervical carcinoma and the inhibition of EIF3D represents a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of cervical carcinoma.IMPACT STATEMENT What is already known on this subject? Abstract Background Early detection and prevention of precancerous lesions can significantly reduce the morbidity and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we developed new candidate CpG site biomarkers for CRC and evaluated the diagnostic value of their expression in blood and stool samples of CRC and precancerous lesions. Methods We analyzed 76 pairs of CRC and adjacent normal tissue samples, 348 stool samples, and 136 blood samples. Candidate biomarkers for CRC were screened using a bioinformatics database and identified using a quantitative methylation-specific PCR method. The methylation levels of the candidate biomarkers were validated using blood and stool samples. The divided stool samples were used to construct and validate a combined diagnostic model and to analyze the independent or combined diagnostic value of candidate biomarkers in stool samples of CRC and precancerous lesions. Results Two candidate CpG site biomarkers for CRC, cg13096260 and cg12993163, were identified. Although both biomarkers demonstrated diagnostic performance to a certain extent when using blood samples, they showed better diagnostic value for different stages of CRC and AA with stool samples. Conclusions cg13096260 and cg12993163 detection in stool samples could be a promising approach for screening and early diagnosis of CRC and precancerous lesions.

Understanding the mechanism of detoxification initiation in arthropods after pesticide exposure is crucial. Although the identity of transcription factors that induce and regulate the expression of detoxification genes in response to pesticides is beginning to emerge, whether transcription factors directly interact with xenobiotics is unclear. The findings of this study revealed that a nuclear hormone receptor, Tetranychus cinnabarinus hormone receptor (HR) TcHR96h, regulates the overexpression of the detoxification gene TcGSTm02, which is involved in cyflumetofen resistance. The nuclear translocation of TcHR96h increased after cyflumetofen exposure, suggesting direct binding with cyflumetofen. The direct binding of TcHR96h and cyflumetofen was supported by several independent proteomic assays that quantify interactions with small molecules. Together, this study proposes a model for the initiation of xenobiotic detoxification in a polyphagous agricultural pest. These insights not only provide a better understanding of the mechanisms of xenobiotic detoxification and metabolism in arthropods, but also are crucial in understanding adaptation in polyphagous herbivores.

Changes in slope aspect have important effects on the C, N and P nutrient contents and stoichiometric characteristics of plants and soils. As an important forest type in the subtropical region, Pinus massoniana forests play an important role in the restoration and development of forest ecosystems. In this study, the effect of slope aspect on the C, N and P contents and stoichiometry of leaves and soils of four P. massoniana forest types (i.e., pure P. massoniana forest (PF), P. massoniana-Liquidambar formosana mixed forest (PLM), P. massoniana -Platycarya strobilacea mixed forest (PPM), and P. massoniana-Quercus acutissima mixed forest (PQM)) in north subtropical region of China were studied. The results showed that slope aspect had significant effects on soil C, N and P contents, leaf N content (LNC), soil C:P and N:P ratios, and leaf C:N and N:P ratios in four P. massoniana forests. SOC, STN and STP contents differed significantly on the two slopes, with the three mixed forests having higher contents on the sunny slope than on the shady slope. Among the four forest types, the SOC, STN and STP contents of PQM were the highest on both slopes, and their soil C:P and N:P ratios were all the highest on the sunny slope. The LNC and leaf N:P ratios were higher on shady slope than on sunny slope, while the leaf C:N ratio was higher on sunny slope than on shady slope. At the species level, leaf N content and N:P ratio in the three deciduous species were higher than in the evergreen species of P. massoniana, while leaf C content and C:N ratio were lower than in P. massoniana. The interaction between slope aspect and forest type caused a certain range of fluctuations in stoichiometry of the four forest types, but the overall ecological stoichiometry remained stable, and plant growth of the four forest types in the study area was limited by N. Slope-induced changes in soil nutrient content of the four P. massoniana forest types directly affect leaf C:N:P stoichiometry, and soil N and P contents are key factors affecting leaf stoichiometry, especially soil P content.

A growing body of evidence on a wide spectrum of adverse cardiac events following oncologic therapies has led to the emergence of cardio-oncology as an increasingly relevant interdisciplinary specialty. This also calls for better risk-stratification for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Machine learning (ML), a popular branch discipline of artificial intelligence that tackles complex big data problems by identifying interaction patterns among variables, has seen increasing usage in cardio-oncology studies for risk stratification. The objective of this comprehensive review is to outline the application of ML approaches in cardio-oncology, including deep learning, artificial neural networks, random forest and summarize the cardiotoxicity identified by ML. The current literature shows that ML has been applied for the prediction, diagnosis and treatment of cardiotoxicity in cancer patients. In addition, role of ML in gender and racial disparities for cardiac outcomes and potential future directions of cardio-oncology are discussed. It is essential to establish dedicated multidisciplinary teams in the hospital and educate medical professionals to become familiar and proficient in ML in the future.

Abstract Background Premature ovarian failure (POF) is a common disease in the field of Gynecology. Low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) can promote tissue repair and improve function. This study was performed to determine the effects of LIPUS on granulosa cells (GCs) apoptosis and protein expression of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) and BCL2-Associated X (Bax) in 4-vinylcyclohexene diepoxide (VCD)-induced POF mice and investigate the mechanisms of LIPUS on ovarian function and reserve capacity. Methods The current POF mice model was administrated with VCD (160 mg/kg) by intraperitoneal injection for 15 consecutive days. The mice were divided into the POF group, LIPUS group and control group. In the LIPUS group, the right ovary of mice was treated by LIPUS (acoustic intensity was 200 mW/cm2, frequency was 0.3 MHz, and duty cycle was 20%) for 20 min, 15 consecutive days from day 16. The mice of the POF group and control group were treated without ultrasonic output. The basic observation and body weight were recorded. Hematoxylin and eosin staining (H&E staining) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were applied to detect ovarian follicle development, ovarian morphology and sex hormone secretion. Ovarian GCs apoptosis was detected by TUNEL assay and immunohistochemistry. Results The results showed that VCD can induce estrus cycle disorder, follicular atresia, sex hormone secretion decreased and GCs apoptosis in mice to establish POF model successfully. LIPUS significantly promoted follicular development, increased sex hormone secretion, inhibited excessive follicular atresia and GCs apoptosis. The mechanism might be achieved by increasing the protein expression of Bcl-2 and decreasing the expression of Bax in ovaries. Conclusions LIPUS can improve the POF induced by VCD. These findings have the potential to provide novel methodological foundation for the future research, which help treat POF patients in the clinic.

Abstract Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the leading causes of childhood visual impairment and blindness. However, there are still very few effective pharmacological interventions for ROP. Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6)‐mediated disassembly of photoreceptor cilia has recently been implicated as an early event in the pathogenesis of ROP. Herein it is shown that enhanced expression of HDAC6 by intravitreal injection of adenoviruses encoding HDAC6 induces the typical pathological changes associated with ROP in mice, including disruption of the membranous disks of photoreceptor outer segments and a decrease in electroretinographic amplitudes. Hdac6 transgenic mice exhibit similar ROP‐related defects in retinal structures and functions and disassembly of photoreceptor cilia, whereas Hdac6 knockout mice are resistant to oxygen change‐induced retinal defects. It is further shown that blocking HDAC6‐mediated cilium disassembly by intravitreal injection of small‐molecule compounds protect mice from ROP‐associated retinal defects. The findings indicate that pharmacological targeting of the HDAC6‐cilium axis may represent a promising strategy for the prevention of ROP.

Abstract Structure‐controlled Pt‐based nanocrystals have the great potential to provide a flexible strategy for improving the catalysis of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Here, a new synthetic approach is developed to tune the 3D structure of Pt‐based alloys, and switch a synthetic reaction which produces solid PtCu octahedral stars (OSs) to produce PtCu nested skeleton cubes (NSCs) by simple addition of Ni(acac)2. In particular, Ni2+‐guided anisotropic growth is observed to generate the nested skeleton structure in PtCu NSCs. Ni2+, though absent from the nanoalloys, not only endows faster Cu reduction kinetics but also acts as a structure‐directing agent. Moreover, it is shown that acetic acid treatment of PtCu NSCs/C exposes Pt‐rich surface with a fine‐tuned Pt d‐band center energy and the reduced Cu leaching, resulting in strikingly high activity and stability. Acid‐treated PtCu NSCs/C shows a remarkable ORR mass activity of 5.13 A mgPt–1, about 26 times higher than commercial Pt/C catalyst. This catalyst also exhibits excellent stability with a lower activity decay of 11.5% and the negligible variation in structure after 10 000 cycles.

Several mutations identified in phospholamban (PLN) have been linked to familial dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and heart failure, yet the underlying molecular mechanism remains controversial. PLN interacts with sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) and regulates calcium uptake, which is modulated by the protein kinase A (PKA)-dependent phosphorylation of PLN during the fight-or-flight response. Here, we present the crystal structures of the catalytic domain of mouse PKA in complex with wild-type and DCM-mutant PLNs. Our structures, combined with the results from other biophysical and biochemical assays, reveal a common disease mechanism: the mutations in PLN reduce its phosphorylation level by changing its conformation and weakening its interactions with PKA. In addition, we demonstrate that another more ubiquitous SERCA-regulatory peptide, called another-regulin (ALN), shares a similar mechanism mediated by PKA in regulating SERCA activity.

To investigate the promoting effects and mechanisms of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on the migration of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). The BMSCs migration was researched from cell and animal experiments. In the cell experiment, the BMSCs was treated using LIPUS (30 mW/cm2, 20 min/day, 2 days), and the wound healing and transwell migration were observed. In the animal experiment, the BMSCs labelled with green fluorescent protein (GFP) were injected into rats with femoral defects via the tail vein (1 × 106/mL). The healing of bone was detected using x-ray and sampled for hematoxylin & eosin (H&E) staining and fluorescence microscopy. About the mechanisms, the cellular F-actin of cytoskeleton was stained with FITC-phalloidin. The changes of BMSCs genes after LIPUS treatment were screened using microarray assay and verified using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The biological processes of those genes were predicted by KEGG analysis. The protein expression levels of FAK, ERK1/2 and myosin II related migration were detected using western blotting. Abstract Leaf functional traits are widely used to detect and explain adaptations that enable plants to live under various environmental conditions. This study aims to determine the difference in leaf functional traits among four forest types of Pinus massoniana coniferous and broad‐leaved mixed forests by leaf morphological, nutrients, and stoichiometric traits in the subtropical mountain, Southeastern China. Our study indicated that the evergreen conifer species of P. massoniana had higher leaf dry matter content (LDMC), leaf C content, C/N and C/P ratios, while the three deciduous broad‐leaved species of L. formosana, Q. tissima, and P. strobilacea had higher specific leaf area (SLA), leaf N, leaf P nutrient contents, and N/P ratio in the three mixed forest types. The results showed that the species of P. massoniana has adapted to the nutrient‐poor environment by increasing their leaf dry matter for higher construction costs thereby reducing water loss and reflects a resource conservation strategy. In contrast, the three species of L. formosana, Q. tissima, and P. strobilacea exhibited an optimized resource acquisition strategy rather than resource conservation strategy in the subtropical mountain of southeastern China. Regarding the four forest types, the three mixed forest types displayed increased plant leaf nutrient contents when compared to the pure P. massoniana forest, especially the P. massoniana–L. formosana mixed forest type (PLM). Overall, variation in leaf functional traits among different forest types may play an adaptive role in the successful survival of plants under diverse environments because leaf functional traits can lead to significant effects on leaf function, especially for their acquisition of nutrients and use of light. The results of this study are beneficial to reveal the changes in plant leaf functional traits at the regional scale, which will provide a foundation for predicting changes in leaf traits and adaptation in the future environment.

Abstract Background Contactin1 (CNTN1) has been shown to play an important role in the invasion and metastasis of several tumors; however, the role of CNTN1 in breast cancer has not been fully studied. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of CNTN1 in regulating tumor growth, migration and invasion in breast cancer. Results To investigate its function, CNTN1 was expressed in Hs578T cells. CNTN1 expression was confirmed by western blot, immunohistochemistry and real-time RT-PCR. The effect of CNTN1 overexpression on proliferation, migration and invasion of Hs578T breast cancer cells was assessed in vitro and in vivo. Our results showed that CNTN1 overexpression promoted Hs578T cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, colony formation, invasion and migration. Notably, overexpression of CNTN1 in Hs578T cells enhanced the growth of mouse xenograft tumors. Conclusions CNTN1 promotes growth, metastasis and invasion of Hs578T breast cancer cell line. Thus, therapies targeting CNTN1 may prove efficacious for breast cancer. However, further investigation is required to understand the mechanism by which CNTN1 influences proliferation, metastasis and invasion in breast cancer.

Polysaccharide from marine shellfish has various bioactivities. In this study, the effects of polysaccharide from Patinopecten yessoensis skirt (PS) on boosting immune response in mice were evaluated, and the potential mechanisms were explored. The results showed that PS administration effectively increased the serum IgG and IgM levels, implying that PS had immune response-boosting properties. Moreover, PS administration could modulate the composition of the gut microbiota, and significantly improve short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) metabolism, especially butyrate metabolism. Of note, the expression of the Tlr2, Tlr7, MyD88, Tnfa, and Il1b genes in toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathway was significantly increased. In summary, PS could boost immune response by modulating the gut microbiota and SCFAs metabolism correlating with the activation of the TLR signaling pathway. Therefore, PS can be developed as a special ingredient for functional product.

Metabolic syndrome is the pathological basis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. With the prevalence of modern lifestyles, the incidence of metabolic syndrome has risen rapidly. In recent years, marine sulfate polysaccharides (MSPs) have shown positive effects in the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, and they mainly come from seaweeds and marine animals. MSPs are rich in sulfate and have stronger biological activity compared with terrestrial polysaccharides. MSPs can alleviate metabolic syndrome by regulating glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism. In addition, MSPs prevent and treat metabolic syndrome by interacting with gut microbiota. MSPs can be degraded by gut microbes to produce metabolites such as short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and free sulfate and affect the composition of gut microbiota. The difference between MSPs and other polysaccharides lies in the sulfation pattern and sulfate content, therefore, which is very important for anti-metabolic syndrome activity of MSPs. This review summarizes the latest findings on effects of MSPs on metabolic syndrome, mechanisms of MSPs in treatment/prevention of metabolic syndrome, interactions between MSPs and gut microbiota, and the role of sulfate group and sulfation pattern in MSPs activity. However, more clinical trials are needed to confirm the potential preventive and therapeutic effects on human body. It may be a better choice to develop new functional foods containing MSPs for dietary intervention in metabolic syndrome.

The structure and composition of nanofillers have a significant influence on polyamide nanofiltration (NF) membranes. In this work, an asymmetric organic nanobowl containing a concave cavity was synthesized and incorporated into a polyamide layer to prepare thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membranes via an interfacial polymerization process. Benefiting from the hydrophilicity, hollow cavity and charge property of the compatible organic nanobowls, the separation performance of the developed TFN membrane was significantly improved. The corresponding water fluxes increased to 119.44 ± 5.56, 141.82 ± 3.24 and 130.27 ± 2.05 L/(m2·h) toward Na2SO4, MgCl2 and NaCl solutions, respectively, with higher rejections, compared with the control thin film composite (TFC) and commercial (CM) membranes. Besides this, the modified TFN membrane presented a satisfying purification performance toward tap water, municipal effluent and heavy metal wastewater. More importantly, a better antifouling property of the TFN membrane than TFC and CM membranes was achieved with the assistance of organic nanobowls. These results indicate that the separation performance of the TFN membrane can be elevated by the incorporation of organic nanobowls.

Atherosclerosis is a common cardiovascular disease that involves the build-up of plaque on the inner walls of the arteries. Intraplaque neovacularization has been shown to be essential in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Previous studies showed that small-molecule compounds targeting farnesyl transferase have the ability to prevent atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice, but the underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. In this study, we found that lonafarnib, a specific inhibitor of farnesyl transferase, elicits inhibitory effect on vascular endothelial capillary assembly in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, we showed that lonafarnib treatment led to a dose-dependent decrease in scratch wound closure in vitro, whereas it had little effect on endothelial cell proliferation. These data indicate that lonafarnib inhibits neovascularization via directly targeting endothelial cells and disturbing their motility. Moreover, we demonstrated that pharmacological inhibition of farnesyl transferase by lonafarnib significantly impaired centrosome reorientation toward the leading edge of endothelial cells. Mechanistically, we found that the catalytic β subunit of farnesyl transferase associated with a cytoskeletal protein important for the establishment and maintenance of cell polarity. Additionally, we showed that lonafarnib remarkably inhibited the expression of the cytoskeletal protein and interrupted its interaction with farnesyl transferase. Our findings thus offer novel mechanistic insight into the protective effect of farnesyl transferase inhibitors on atherosclerosis and provide encouraging evidence for the potential use of this group of agents in inhibiting plaque neovascularization.

Phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor (mTOR) pathway is often constitutively activated in human tumor cells and thus has been considered as a promising drug target. To ascertain a therapeutical approach of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), we hypothesized NVP-BEZ235, a novel and potent imidazo[4,5-c] quinolone derivative, that dually inhibits both PI3K and mTOR kinases activities, had antitumor activity in NPC. Expectedly, we found that NVP-BEZ235 selectively inhibited proliferation of NPC cells rather than normal nasopharyngeal cells using MTT assay. In NPC cell lines, with the extended exposure, NVP-BEZ235 selectively inhibited proliferation of NPC cells harboring PIK3CA mutation, compared to cells with wild-type PIK3CA. Furthermore, exposure of NPC cells to NVP-BEZ235 resulted in G1 growth arrest by Propidium iodide uptake assay, reduction of cyclin D1and CDK4, and increased levels of P27 and P21 by Western blotting, but negligible apoptosis. Moreover, we found that cisplatin (CDDP) activated PI3K/AKT and mTORC1 pathways and NVP-BEZ235 alleviated the activation by CDDP through dually targeting PI3K and mTOR kinases. Also, NVP-BEZ235 combining with CDDP synergistically inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis in NPC cells. In CNE2 and HONE1 nude mice xenograft models, orally NVP-BEZ235 efficiently attenuated tumor growth with no obvious toxicity. In combination with NVP-BEZ235 and CDDP, there was dramatic synergy in shrinking tumor volumes and inducing apoptosis through increasing Noxa, Bax and decreasing Mcl-1, Bcl-2. Based on the above results, NVP-BEZ235, which has entered phase I/II clinical trials in patients with advanced solid tumors, has a potential as a monotherapy or in combination with CDDP for NPC treatment.

A hydrothermal earbon was prepared from waste turmeric residue, and its physicochemical structure was characterized by EPMA, FTIR, XRD and BET. The effects of hydrothermal carbon dosage, pH value, adsorption time and coexisting anions on Br removal from drinking water were studied by static adsorption method. The results showed that after adsorption for 60 min, the adsorption capacity of hydrothermal carbon to 5 mg/L Br was 5.51 mg/g, the removal rate was 55.12%, under the conditions of 25 °C, pH = 7 and 0.5 g/L of the dosage of hydrothermal carbon. The adsorption of Br by hydrothermal carbon fitted to Freundlich isothermal adsorption model, and its adsorption process could be better described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
