La obesidad constituye un auténtico reto sanitario en los países desarrollados, empezando a serlo también en los países en vía de desarrollo, cada vez más avanzados industrialmente y más cercanos a los hábitos de vida de occidente. Los estudios epidemiológicos continúan mostrando un alarmante aumento mundial en la prevalencia de la obesidad infantil. Los patrones de actividad física, de alimentación, y falta de ejercicio o sueno son factores de comportamiento que interfieren en la obesidad. El objetivo general del presente trabajo fue evaluar la actividad física medida objetivamente y la alimentación, basada principalmente en la dieta mediterránea en una población de niños y niñas españolas. Un total de 1699 niños y adolescentes (de 2 a 18 años) participaron en el estudio, que se llevó a cabo en tres ciudades españolas: Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza y Córdoba, de los que se seleccionaron como submuestra, 543 participantes (10 } 2 años), que contaban con una medición objetiva de la actividad física, la cual se evaluó, junto con el comportamiento sedentario mediante acelerometría. El estilo de vida y la alimentación de los participantes se evaluaron mediante cuestionarios. Además, se realizaron mediciones antropométricas, de presión arterial y una extracción de sangre para el análisis de marcadores bioquímicos. La práctica de actividad física parece ser un factor clave para el tratamiento y prevención de la obesidad infantil. Además, reducir o limitar el tiempo de pantalla, principalmente en las habitaciones de los niños, podría contribuir a un estilo de vida activo, favoreciendo, por tanto, un mejor estado metabólico. Obesity constitutes a real health challenge in developed countries, beginning to be also in developing countries, which are increasingly industrially advanced changing lifestyles. Epidemiological studies continue to show an alarming worldwide increase in the prevalence of childhood obesity. Physical activity, eating patterns, and lack of exercise or sleep are behavioral factors that interfere with obesity. The general main of the present work was to evaluate lifestyle habits, especially diet and physical activity in a population of Spanish boys and girls. A total of 1699 children and adolescents (from 2 to 18 years old) participated in the study, which was carried out in three Spanish cities: Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza and Cordoba, of which 543 participants (10 } 2 years). Physical activity and sedentary behavior were evaluated by accelerometry. The lifestyle and diet of the participants was collected through specific questionnaires. In addition, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure and a blood draw were made for the analysis of biochemical markers. The practice of physical activity seems to be a key factor for the treatment and prevention of childhood obesity. In addition, reducing or limiting screen time, mainly in children's rooms, could contribute to an active lifestyle, thus promoting a better metabolic state.

- Abstract
This study aimed to investigate if the duration of breastfeeding and the method at initiation of complementary feeding affect eating behaviour in children aged 3−6 years. This is a cross‐sectional analysis from the Childhood Obesity Risk Assessment Longitudinal Study project, an ongoing longitudinal cohort study that aims to identify childhood obesity risk factors in Spanish children. A total of 1215 children aged 3−6 years were included. Breastfeeding duration and the method of initiation of complementary feeding [baby‐led weaning (BLW), traditional/spoon or mixed method] were evaluated. Eating behaviour at 3−6 years was assessed with the Child Eating Behaviour Questionnaire. Generalized linear models were fitted to assess the association between the aforementioned exposures and eating behaviour.Children breastfed for ≥4 months were less likely to be fussy eaters at 3−6 years compared to those breastfed for <1 month (OR: 0.86 95% CI: 0.76−0.98;
p = 0.031). Compared to those children using the traditional/spoon‐feeding method, those initiating complementary feeding through BLW or through a mixed approach were more likely to have higher scores on the enjoyment of food (EF) (OR, 95% CI: 1.33, 1.13−1.57;p = 0.001 and 1.17, 1.05−1.30;p = 0.002, respectively) and lower scores on food fussiness (FF) at 3−6 years (0.76, 0.62−0.91;p = 0.004 and 0.87, 0.78−0.98;p = 0.033, respectively). Breastfeeding for ≥4 months and initiation of complementary feeding with the BLW and a mixed approach were associated with greater EF and lower FF, which should endure practice.
