This article outlines a production-oriented imagology and equips the imagological toolkit with concepts and terminology from cultural memory studies, reception aesthetics, narratology, rhetoric, and text linguistics. It thereby presents the theoretical framework which makes it possible to analyse generic elements without a national connotation with regard to their function in generating a national image. Using as examples genres from English Romanticism and how they evoke Englishness, the article highlights the aesthetic complexity of national images and their range of variation. Simultaneously it paves the way for a more nuanced deconstruction of these images. This comparative study focuses on the manifestations of Englishness in various literary genres of English Romanticism. Political essays, travelogues, the Gothic novel and balladry are scrutinized from a production-oriented and context-sensitive perspective and through an imagological lens. This book centres around the interplay between national stereotypes and genre-specific (and nationally unspecific) tropes and conventions. Attention is given to the implied reader, cultural knowledge, the narrative situation and to focalization, as well as lyric-specific elements. The book demonstrates how narratology, cultural memory studies, reception theory, rhetoric and text linguistics can be integrated more effectively into the toolkit of imagology. This will allow national images to be deconstructed in a more fine-grained manner. Diese vergleichende Fallstudie richtet den Blick auf die Erscheinungsformen von Englishness in Gattungen der englischen Romantik. Aus einer produktionsästhetischen wie kontextbewussten Perspektive legt sie den politischen Essay, den Reisebericht, die Gothic novel und die Ballade unter das imagologische Mikroskop. Dabei gilt das Interesse dem Zusammenspiel von nationalen Stereotypen und Topoi mit Gattungselementen ohne nationale Konnotation. Der Adressat, kulturelles Wissen, Erzählsituation und Fokalisierung sowie lyrikspezifische Elemente stehen dabei im Fokus. In theoretischer Hinsicht zeigt dieses Buch, wie sich das Handwerkszeug der Narratologie, der kulturwissenschaftlichen Gedächtnisforschung, der Rezeptionsästhetik, der Rhetorik und der Textlinguistik weit stärker als bisher gewinnbringend in das Analyseinstrumentarium der Imagologie integrieren lässt. So lassen sich nationenbezogene Bilder zukünftig nuancierter nachzeichnen und im Zuge dessen besser dekonstruieren.

The focus of this thesis lies on the thermoelectric transport properties of rare-earth compounds containing Ce, Eu, and Yb. These systems have been investigated either to study fundamental problems or to evaluate their potential for thermoelectric applications.

The paper focuses on risk presentation with regard to the loss of human life. Several measures of risk, such as F-N diagrams, the probability of loss of life and days of lost life expectancy are introduced. All of these measures are specialised for different types of loss. In addition, quality-of-life parameters can be understood as measures of risk. In contrast to the afore-mentioned measures of risk, quality-of-life parameters are able to cover the entire field of risk to human life. If this is true, then the efficiency of all safety actions can be compared, regardless of their specific field. This would also permit competition among safety actions across an entire society and should yield not only improvements for safety, but also an increase in the quality of life within that society. Der folgende Beitrag befasst sich mit der Darstellung von Risiken für Menschen. Dazu werden verschiedene Risikoparameter, wie Sterbewahrscheinlichkeiten, F-N-Diagramme und das Konzept der verlorenen Lebensjahre, vorgestellt. Weiterhin können Lebensqualitätsparameter, die in den unterschiedlichsten Fachbereichen entwickelt wurden, als Risikoparameter verstanden werden. Während die zuerst genannten Risikoparameter im Wesentlichen auf einen Aspekt eines Schadens ausgerichtet sind, können Lebensqualitätsparameter alle Formen von Verlusten oder Nachteilen erfassen. Damit wird der Vergleich von risikoverringernden Maßnahmen unabhängig vom Fachbereich einer Maßnahme möglich. Ein solcher Ansatz erlaubt den Wettbewerb aller Schutzmaßnahmen innerhalb einer Gesellschaft und müsste zu einer Erhöhung der Sicherheit und der Lebensqualität führen.
