Thyroid-like low-grade nasopharyngeal papillary adenocarcinoma (TL-LGNPA) is an extremely rare neoplasm that generally originates from the nasopharynx surface epithelium. The case presented herein is of a 70-year-old male patient referred from another centre, who was observed to have this tumour together with squamous cell carcinoma. The clinicopathological findings of this combination are presented, which has very rarely been mentioned in the literature. Although the prognosis of TL-LGNPA is generally excellent, it may sometimes be combined with other tumours, and therefore it must be kept in mind that it could have a clinically more aggressive course.

To evaluate the predictive value of CD44 and aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 (ALDH1) expression for prognosis and radiotherapy (RT) response in patients with early-stage laryngeal cancer receiving RT. Forty-four patients with early-stage laryngeal cancer diagnosed between 2002 and 2016 were included in the study. The correlation between RT response and pre-treatment immunohistochemical ALDH1 and CD44 staining was evaluated. In addition, survival times were compared between groups. The mean age of the 44 patients was 59.8 ±9.0 (43-81) years and 41 were male. There were 20 patients in the non-recurrent group (all men) and 24 patients in the recurrent group (21 men). Immunohistochemical positivity for ALDH1 was found to be a significant risk factor for RT failure (p = 0.0001), whereas CD44 positivity (p = 0.114) and age group (p = 0.287) were not significant. ALDH1 positivity was identified as a significant predictor of DFS and RT sensitivity, while CD44 positivity did not differ according to RT response.

Background: To evaluate the performance of TBSRTC through multi-institutional experience in the paediatric population and questioning the management recommendation of ATA Guidelines Task Force on Paediatric Thyroid Cancer; Methods: A retrospective search was conducted in 4 institutions to identify consecutive thyroid FNAC cases in paediatric population between 2000 and 2018. Following the 2nd TBSRTC, the risk of malignancy ratios (ROMs) was given in ranges and calculated by 2 different ways. Sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV and DA ratios were calculated using histologic diagnosis as the gold standard; Results: Among a total of 405 specimens, the distribution of cases for each category was, 44 (11%) for ND, 204 (50%) for B category, 40 (10%) for AUS/FLUS, 36 (9%) for FN/SFN, 24 (6%) for SFM and 57 (14%) for M categories. 153 cases have a histological diagnosis. The ratio of surgery was 23% in ND, 16% in the B, 45% for AUS/FLUS, 75% for SFN/FN and 92% for SFM and 75% in M categories; Conclusions: The data underlines the high ROM values in paediatric population which might be clinically meaningful. The high rate of malignancy of the cohort of operated patients (50%) also underlines the need of better preoperative indicators for stratification. Considering that more than half of the nodules in AUS/FLUS category were benign, direct surgery recommendation could be questionable as proposed in ATA 2015 guidelines.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the clinical course of these tumors by emphasizing the epidemiological data as well as the pathological features of different myxofibrosarcoma cases. Materials and Methods: 22 cases of myxofibrosarcoma were included in the single center study. Age, gender, tumor location, size, histopathological features as well as treatment modalities and clinical follow-up of the cases were also evaluated. Additional immunohistochemical studies were applied for the differential diagnosis in pathological evaluation. Results: The mean age of the patients was 54 years old and there is no sex predilection. The extremities are the most common location. Deep located myxofibrosarcoma were highly aggressive unlike superficial counterparts. The grade given as a result of pathological examination is closely related to the clinical course. Since the mean recurrence period is 16 months, long term follow up is required. Recurrence is present in all metastatic cases. Death from the disease occurred only in those with a higher grade. Conclusion: Myxofibrosarcomas are rarely seen but diagnostically challenging. Accurate diagnosis is essential to differentiate myxofibrosarcoma from other pleomorphic sarcomas, and to manage the treatment of patients since it may mimic even reactive lesions by histopathologically. Superficial and low grade myxofibrosarcoma of present study showed excellent prognosis and it has been presented as a contribution to the literature that these patients may have a good prognosis with correct diagnosis and treatment.

Karaciğerde görülen en sık benign neoplazm hemanjiyomdur. Genellikle asemptomatik olup ender olarak komplikasyon oluşturabilir. Karaciğer ve senkron organ tutulumu görülebilir. Genellikle medikal takip edilir. Semptomatik, hızlı büyüme gösterir ve tanı kesin değilse cerrahi tedavi uygulanmalıdır. Bu yazıda karaciğer ve diaframda aynı dönemde görülen senkron hemanjiyomu olan bir olgu sunulmuştur.

Intraabdomınal lymphangioma is a rare disease. Pancreatic counterpart occurs as cystic mass and should be kept in mind in patients with cystic pancreatic lesions. Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the role of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in odontogenic tumors and rare soft tissue tumors.Material and Methods: This study includes 28 cases (11 cases of odontogenic tumors and 17 cases of soft tissue tumors) which were diagnosed at Cukurova University Medical Faculty, Department of Pathology between 2002 and 2010. They were evaluated for immunohistochemical staining of EGFR and the presence of genetic abnormality by FISH method. Results: Eleven cases were positively stained by immunohistochemistry. Eight cases had genetic abnormality of EGFR gene by FISH method. Nine of eleven odontogenic tumors (81,8%) showed overexpression of EGFR by immunohistochemical method or FISH method. Conclusion: Our findings highlight that EGFR plays an important role in chordoma pathogenesis in soft tissue tumors. In addition to odontogenic tumors; two cases of vascular neoplasia, composite and retiform hemangioendothelioma, exhibited EGFR gene amplification. Interestingly, there is no avaliable data about EGFR gene status in these tumors. EGFR can be used for diagnostic purposes. Also, it is a target for anti-EGFR therapy. Therefore, EGFR gene status is a valuable marker for therapeutic management.

Kistik böbrek hastalığı, yeni doğan ölümüne sebep olabileceği için uterin dönemde tanınması gereken bir grup hastalığı temsil eder. Ölümcül seyreden otozomal resesif geçişli polikistik böbrek hastalığı oldukça nadir görülen bir hastalık olup, karaciğer lezyonları da bu hastalığa eşlik edebilir. Sunulan otopsi olgusu 31+1 haftalık ölü doğmuş erkek fetus olup yapılan otopside kistik böbrek hastalığı saptanmıştır. Mikroskopik incelemede böbrekte medüller alanlarda görülen değişik boyutlardaki kistlerin yanı sıra karaciğerde portal alanlarda genişleme, duktuslarda uzama ve kıvrılma ile karakterize duktal lezyon görülmüştür. Morfolojik bulgularla olgu otozomal resesif geçişli polikistik böbrek hastalığına eşlik eden duktal alan malformasyonu olarak tanımlanmıştır. Bu hastalık oldukça nadir görülmekle birlikte genellikle yaşamla bağdaşmaz. Ayırıcı tanısında diğer böbrek kistleri yer almaktadır. Bu kistik hastalıkların bir kısmı yetişkin çağa kadar bulgu vermeyen iyi klinik gidiş gösterebilir. Bu olgu agresif klinik gidişi, kendine özgü morfolojik özellikleri ile diğer kistik böbrek hastalıklarından ayrılır.
