Abstract Development of new organic synthetic methods fascinating the researchers which facilitating the increasing demands of the modern society, environmental friendly with high efficiency and low cost. The introduction of chromophores in an organic molecules facilitating intersystem crossing (ISC) to harvest both singlet and triplet excitons is also currently demanding field. We report a facile synthesis of symmetrical azines from carbonyl compounds and hydrazine hydrate with carboxylic acid esters as catalyst in methanol. This reaction presents a condensation of primary amino groups in hydrazine hydrate and carbonyl compounds took place simultaneously in a very short refluxing time. The prepared azines 1–10 were structurally analysed by various analytical techniques such as LC-MS1, H NMR13, C NMR, UV-Vis, FTIR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Photoluminescence properties of prepared azines were recorded in CCl4 at 1 × 10−3 M and excitation range from 329 to 362 nm. The photoluminescence analysis results revealed that compounds 1–10 (except 8) were showed delayed fluorescence and 8 was showed fluorescence property. The photophysical properties of compounds 1–10 such as electron density and band gap energies was calculated by density function theory. This results revealed that the intra-molecular charge transfer occurs within the azines. The azine function in the azines enabling intersystem crossing hence, it is showing phosphorescence.

In recent decades, the textile industry has contributed to continuous pollution in the environment. Synthetic dyes which are commonly found in waste water are azo, sulfur, anthraquinone, triphenylmethyl, indigoid, and phthalocyanine derivatives. These pollutants block the light penetration in water bodies and prevent photosynthesis activity, thereby affecting aquatic life. As an environmental crisis, several technologies have been explored to control pollution. Among all the techniques, the photocatalysis process is considered as a green, simple, and economical process. To improve the photocatalytic activity, researchers worldwide have investigated various photocatalysts such as metal oxides, metal ferrites, and heterostructured nanocomposites. The major goal of this review article is to propose a high-performing, cost-effective hybrid photocatalyst reported to date for prospective azo dye pollutant remediation. This review article also aimed to highlight the challenges and uncertainties associated with dye degradation in the photocatalytic process.

Solution combustion was employed to create a series of ZrO2:Dy3+ (1-11 mol percent) nanoparticles (NPs) using oxalyl dihydrazide (ODH) as the fuel. ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs were subjected to calcination at about 700°C. ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs comprised of 1 to 11 mol% of Dy3+ were characterized by employing the X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopic (TEM), UV-visible, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) techniques. The crystallite diameters of 1 to 11 mol% ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs were observed to range from 8.1 nm to 16.3 nm, exhibiting spherical shape. According to BET tests, the pore volume of ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs was determined to be 100.129 cm3/g. The mean pore diameter of ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs was determined to be 4.803 nm from the Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) plot. The photoluminescence and photocatalytic dye degradation properties of ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs were investigated. The acid red 88 (AR88) dye was applied to appraise the photocatalytic activities of the NPs under UV irradiation. ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs with 3 mol% Dy3+ exhibited improvised photocatalytic activity due to the operative departure of charge carriers. The electrochemical examination of ZrO2:Dy3+ NP modified carbon paste electrode in 0.1 N HCl demonstrated considerable redox potential output, as evidenced by cyclic voltammetric and amperometric measurements. The electrochemical sensor studies on ZrO2:Dy3+ NPs exhibited potentiality towards sensing of highly toxic metals like mercury and lead.
