The usual basis to analyze heat transfer within materials is the equation formulated 200 years ago, Fourier's law, which is identical mathematically to the mass diffusion equation, Fick's law. Revisiting this assumption regarding heat transport within translucent materials, performing the experiments in vacuum to avoid air convection, we compare the model predictions to infrared-based measurements with nearly mK temperature resolution. After heat pulses, we find macroscale non-Gaussian tails in the surface temperature profile. At steady state, we find macroscale anomalous hot spots when the sample is topographically rough, and this is validated by using two additional independent methods to measure surface temperature. These discrepancies from Fourier's law for translucent materials suggest that internal radiation whose mean-free-path is millimeters interacts with defects to produce small heat sources that by secondary emission afford an additional, non-local mode of heat transport. This work investigates a state estimation problem for linear time-invariant systems based on polarized measurement information from event sensors. To enable estimator design, a new notion of observability, namely,\epsilon-observability is defined with the precision parameter\epsilon which relates to the worst-case performance of inferring the initial state, based on which a criterion is developed to test the\epsilon-observability of discrete-time linear systems. Utilizing multisensor polarity data from event sensors and the implicit information hidden in event-triggering conditions at no-event instants, an iterative event-triggered state estimator is designed to evaluate a set containing all possible values of the state. The proposed estimator is built by outer approximation of intersecting ellipsoids that are predicted from previous state estimates and the ellipsoids inferred from received polarity information of event sensors as well as the event-triggering protocol; the estimated regions of the state derived from multisensor event measurements are fused together, the sizes of which are proved to be asymptotically bounded. Distributed implementation of the estimation algorithm utilizing a two-layer processor network of hierarchy architecture is discussed, and the temporal computational complexity of the algorithm implemented in centralized and distributed ways is analyzed. Nanoparticles can promote the accumulation of drugs in tumors. However, they find limited clinical applications because they cannot easily penetrate the stroma of cancer tissues, and it is difficult to control drug release. We developed a multiresponse multistage drug-delivery nanogel with improved tumor permeability and responsiveness to the tumor microenvironment for the controlled delivery of anticancer agents. For this purpose, ~100 nm multistage drug delivery nanogels with pH, redox, near-infrared stimulation, and enzyme responsiveness were grown in situ using 20 nm gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) via an emulsion-aiding crosslinking technique with cysteine crosslinker. An alginate cysteine AuNP (ACA) nanocarrier can efficiently load the cationic drug doxorubicin (DOX) to produce a multistage drug delivery nanocarrier (DOX@ACA). DOX@ ACA can maintain the slow release of DOX and reduce its toxicity. In cancer tissues, the high pH and reductase microenvironment combined with the in vitro delivery of alginate and near-infrared light drove drug release. The developed nanoparticles effectively inhibited cancer cells, and in vivo evaluations showed that they effectively enhanced antitumor activity while having negligible in vivo toxicity to major organs. The increasing demands for the management of hemostasis and tissue sealing drive the development of novel bioadhesives, which can overcome the disadvantages of conventional sutures such as additional tissue damage, increased infection probability, and body fluid/air leakage. Bioadhesives can form a protective layer with seamless adhesion between the injured tissues, thereby quickly closing the wound and creating appropriate microenvironments for wound healing. In this review, the recent advancement in bioadhesives made of natural macromolecules (polysaccharides and proteins, etc.) and synthetic macromolecules (cyanoacrylate, polyethylene glycol, polyurethane, etc.) have been summarized. The gelation and adhesion mechanisms that determine the bioadhesive properties and sealing functions are highlighted, and the current clinical applications of bioadhesives are also discussed. This paper conducts the experimental and simulative analysis of stressing state characteristics for parabolic concretefilled steel tubular (CFST) arches undergoing vertical loads. The measured stain data is firstly modeled as the generalized strain energy density (GSED) to describe structural stressing state mode. Then, the normalized GSED sum Ej,norm at each load Fj derives the Ej,norm-Fj curve reflecting the stressing state characteristics of CFST arches. Furthermore, the Mann-Kendall criterion is adopted to detect the stressing state change of the CFST arch during its load-bearing process, leading to the revelation of a vital stressing state leap characteristic according to the natural law from quantitative change to qualitative change of a system. The revealed qualitative leap characteristic updates the existing definition of the CFST arch's failure load. Finally, the accurate formula is derived to predict the failure/ultimate loads of CFST arches. Besides, a method of numerical shape function is proposed to expand the limited strain data for further analysis of the stressing state submodes. The GSED-based analysis of structural stressing state opens a new way to recognize the unseen working behavior characteristics of arch structures and the updated failure load could contribute to the improvement on the structural design codes. This paper investigates structural performance of five reinforcement concrete (RC) box-girders under a combination loading of bending, shear and torsion, applying the structural stressing state theory. The measured strain data is modeled as generalized strain energy density (GSED) to characterize the structural stressing state mode. Then the Mann-Kendall (M-K) criterion is innovatively applied to detect the leap characteristics of RC box-girders' stressing state from the E'-T curves, deriving the new definition of structural failure load. Furthermore, the reinforcement effects of different Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) wrapping schemes on the behaviors of experimental RC box-girders are revealed through comparing strain modes of stirrup and longitudinal reinforcement. Finally, the method of numerical shape function is applied to reasonably expand the limited strain data for further exploring the strain distribution of cross section and analyzing the stressing state characteristics of the RC box-girders.
