Human milk oligosaccharides （HMOs） are a group of complex glycans in human milk and play an important role in promoting the growth and development of infants, and more than 200 kinds of HMOs have been identified so far. In this paper, the types and structures of HMOs and their roles in improving infant intestinal health, promoting immune system development and brain development were reviewed. The application status of HMOs was summarized, the possibility and necessity of industrial production and application of HMOs in the future were prospected.

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) composites have been widely used in engineering. This paper investigates the effect of composite z-pin (polyimide fiber/epoxy resin) on flexural properties of skin/stringer composite structure with different z-pin densities and diameters. Compared with unpinned specimens, the peak loading and energy absorption of z-pinned specimens are increased by 98% and 9 times, respectively. Parameterized research indicates that the optimal z-pin density is 1.35%. And thin z-pins are beneficial to improve the peak loading and energy absorption, which attributes to more total contact area of z-pins. The statistical results present that z-pin pre-hole inserted (ZPI) process can significantly reduce initial damages of z-pinned specimens compared with Ultrasonically Assisted Z-fiber (UAZ) process. Specifically, the z-pin inclination angle is decreased by 60%, and the initial damages in eye-like zone are prominently reduced. The z-pin makes the specimen exhibit the quasi-brittle behavior under flexural loading by playing a bridging role, which makes the flexural properties of specimens prominently increased. In addition, the "snubbing effect" will enhance the bridging effect of z-pins, but it will lead to inter-fibers debonding, splitting, and shear failure of z-pins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are commonly consumed as probiotics to improve gut barrier function and boost the immune system. This study aimed to screen LAB with high immunomodulatory activity using RAW264.7 macrophages. According to the results, Limosilactobacillus reuteri AUc2301 was selected from 84 screened strains that can stimulate RAW264.7 cell proliferation. Limosilactobacillus reuteri AUc2301 significantly enhanced the phagocytosis activity of RAW264.7 cells. In the ELISA test, Limosilactobacillus reuteri AUc2301 significantly promoted the release of interleukin-6, IL-1β, the tumor necrosis factor, and nitric oxide in RAW264.7 macrophages. In addition, Limosilactobacillus reuteri AUc2301 significantly inhibited the excessive release of IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, prostaglandin E2 as well as NO and the high expression of cyclooxygenase-2 in RAW264.7 macrophages induced by lipopolysaccharide. In further mechanism studies, Limosilactobacillus reuteri AUc2301 could regulate the nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway in RAW264.7 macrophages. Well‐designed cryoprotectants are crucial for successful probiotic application. In this study, based on literature analysis, characteristics and economic analysis of cryoprotectants, the sucrose (8.2%)–skim milk (8.0%)–inulin (8.2%) combination was proposed and optimised to enhance freeze‐drying resistance of probiotics. Survival, viable cell counts and inactivation rate during storage at 4°C of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum grx16 protected by the combination was 94.9%, 1.89 × 1011 cfu/g and 0.0116. The optimised sucrose–skim milk–polymer prebiotics combination could also effectively protect several other probiotics, with the survival rate being 89.2–95.6%. Electrocatalytic urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is recognized as an effective approach for the degradation of urea in wastewater into harmless N 2 and CO 2 due to its low-energy anode reaction. However, there remains a pressing need for an efficient electrocatalyst to enhance the activity and stability of electrolytic urea. In this study, we employed the hydrothermal technique followed by a reduction-impregnation treatment to load the precious metal Rh on the porous LaNiO 3 nanocubes. The Rh/LaNiO 3 -400 °C nanocubes prepared by this method not only retained the porous structure of the LaNiO 3 nanocubes but also enhanced the catalytic properties of the precious metal. The synergistic effect between these Rh and LaNiO 3 significantly boosted the efficiency of the electrolytic urea process. Characterization tests confirmed that Rh nanoparticles were successfully loaded into the porous LaNiO 3 nanocubes, facilitating better interaction between the catalyst and the electrolyte. Electrochemical tests demonstrated that the stability of Rh/LaNiO 3 -400 °C for up to 72 h. This remarkable stability suggests that such a robust electrocatalyst has the potential to serve as a cornerstone for efficient and long-lasting hydrogen production. This paper investigates the effect of the z-pin pre-hole inserted (ZPI) process on the impact resistance and post-impact flexural properties of skin/stringer composite structure with different z-pin parameters. The responses of the specimens are characterized in terms of impact denting & cracking length, load-carrying capacity, energy absorption and so on. Experimental results demonstrate that the z-pin cannot inhibit the initiation of debonding cracks at the skin/stringer interface. However, the z-pin forms a bridging traction zone across the cracking and prevent it from developing, which ensures the skin/stringer structure preserve higher peak loading and impact resistance. The specimens with the highest z-pin density have better impact resistance and outstanding residual flexural post-impact properties. Moreover, z-pins play a bridging role through its own failure. One is the inter-fiber debonding and splitting or shear failure of z-pins due to "snubbing effect," the other is the sliding friction of z-pins and z-pins' elastic deformation.
