Intercity travel is one of the most important parameters for combating a pandemic. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in different computational studies involving intercity connections. In this study, the effects of intercity connections during an epidemic such as COVID-19 are evaluated using a new network model. This model considers the actual geographic neighborhood and population density data. This new model is applied to actual Turkish data by the means of provincial connections and populations. A Monte Carlo algorithm with a hybrid lattice model is applied to a lattice with 8,802 data points. Results show that this model is quantitatively very efficient in modeling real world COVID-19 epidemic data based on populations and geographical intercity connections, by the means of estimating the number of deaths, disease spread, and epidemic termination., 10 pages, 7 figures

Geçmişte de günümüzde de toplumların, ülkelerin gelişmesinde en önemli pay iyi eğitim almış bireylere aittir. Bu bireylerin bünyesinde üstün yetenek potansiyeline sahip olanların etkisi küçümsenemez. Her alanda gelişme sürecini tamamlayan ülkelerde üstün yetenek potansiyeline sahip bireylerden en yüksek faydayı sağlamak için gerekli çalışmaları yaptıkları görülmektedir. Gelişmekte olan ülkelerde ise üstün yetenek potansiyeline sahip bireylerin ihtiyaçlarına cevap verecek tedbirler alınamamıştır. Bu durum var olan beyin kaynaklarını iyi şekilde kullanamadıklarını göstermektedir. Bunu dışında bu bireylerin problemlerinin çözülmemesi toplumlar içinde ciddi sıkıntılara da neden olmaktadır. Çünkü bu güçlü beyinlerin iyi eğitilmesi toplumlar için faydalı olurken iyi eğitilmemesi çeşitli problemlere neden olabilir. Bu alanda yapılan araştırmalar ülkemizde üstün yetenekli bireylerin eğitim alanında istenilen faydayı sağlayamadığına dikkat çekmektedir. Bu tür araştırmalar sosyal yaşamda veya iş yaşamında başarılı ve mutlu olması için bireylerin bilişsel zekânın yanında `Duygusal Zekâ` özelliğini de barındırması gerektiğini ifade etmişlerdir. Bu çalışmada BİLSEME ve KÇÜ'ye giden üstün yetenek potansiyeline sahip bireylerin duygusal zekâ ile yakınsak bilişsel yetenek arasında ilişki olup olmadığı belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın birinci bölümde problem durumu, araştırmanın amacı ve önemi ortaya konmaktadır. İkinci bölümde konuyla ilgili alan yazını taranarak daha önce yapılan araştırmalar ayrıntılı olarak yer verilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde yöntemden ve araştırmanın evren ve örneklemi tanımlanmıştır. Araştırmada iki grup vardır. Birinci grup BİLSEM'de destek eğitim alan 6,7 ve 8. sınıflara giden 138 üstün yetenekli öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. İkinci grupta ise aynı düzeyde KÇÜ'de destek eğitimi alan üstün yetenekli 131 öğrenci vardır. Her iki gruba da Yakınsak Bilişsel Yetenek ölçen bir test ve Duygusal Zekâ Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler uygun istatistiksel yöntemler kullanılarak çözümlenmiş ve sonuçlar değerlendirilmiştir. Dördüncü bölümde de elde edilen bulgulara yer verilmiştir. Üstün yetenekli öğrencilerin duygusal zekâ ile yakınsak bilişsel yetenekleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişkinin olmadığı, BİLSEM'e gidenlerin duygusal zekâ değerlendirme ölçeği ve alt boyutları puanlarının cinsiyete, okul türüne göre anlamlı farklılık göstermediği, duygusal zekâ toplam puanları ile yakınsak bilişsel yetenek arasındaki anlamlı ilişki bulunamadığı sonucu çıkmıştır. Ayrıca diğer değişkenlere göre elde edilen sonuçlar bulgular kısmında detaylı olarak ortaya konmuştur. Son bölümde ise elde edilen bulgulardan yola çıkarak, yapılması gerekenler konusunda önerilerde bulunulmuştur.Anahtar Kelimeler: Yakınsak Bilişsel Beceri, Duygusal Zekâ, Üstün Yetenekliler İçin Destek Eğitimi The most important resource of societies for the development of countries are the well-educated individuals. The impact of those individuals with superior talent potential cannot be underestimated. It is an empirical fact that the countries that have completed the development process in every field are doing their best to get the highest benefit from the individuals with superior talent potential. Measures must be taken to meet the needs of individuals with high ability in developing countries as well. Unfortunately the available brain power of developing countries are not being educated as efficient as they should be. In addition, the problems of these individuals are not solved, causing serious problems in societies. Appropriate education of these powerful brains is beneficial for societies, otherwise they are apt to cause various problems. Research in this area draws attention to the fact that gifted individuals in our country cannot provide the desired benefits in the field of education. Studies made in this domain indicates that in individuals must possess Emotional Intelligence as well as analytical skills for success and well-being in their social and professional life. In this study, we tried to determine whether there is a statistical correlation between emotional intelligence and convergent cognitive skills of students recognized as having high ability potential in two different groups. The first group consists of high ability students who attend BİLSEM. BİLSEM is a governmental institution that offers free educational support to selected students after their regular formal school program. In the second group there are also students identified as having high ability, but they are not exposed to extra training. In this study there are 138 gifted students in the BILSEM group. They are from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. There are 131 students in the benchmarking group. They are also identified as high ability students and at the same grade levels. Both groups have been given a test that measures convergent cognitive abilities. Also a scale which measures Emotional Intelligence has been given to both groups. The data obtained were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. It has been found out that there is no significant relationship between gifted students' emotional intelligence and convergent cognitive abilities. Also the mean scores of subscales of emotional intelligence did not yield significant difference according to gender, type of school. Neither there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence total scores and convergent cognitive ability scores. In addition, some comparative results obtained from other variables are presented in detail in the findings section. Temel bileşenler analizi (İng. Principal component analysis, PCA) çok sayıda değişkenin temsil ettiği bir verinin matematiksel bir dönüşüm ile toplam varyansı açıklayabilen temel bileşenlere geçirilmesini konu alan istatistiksel bir yöntemdir. Pek çok alanda olduğu gibi kimyasal verilere de uygulanabilen bu yöntemle, özellikle biyolojik türler için büyük önem taşıyan sınıflandırma kolayca yapılabilmektedir. Bu derleme makalesinde, Türkiye’ye özgü gıda ve bitki örneklerinin konu edildiği temel bileşenler analizi çalışmalarına değinilmiş ve sonuçları incelenmiştir. Bunlara ek olarak, bu tür çalışmaların yararı ve önemi hakkında tartışılmıştır. Principal component analysis (PCA) is a statistical method involving the transformation of the data into orthogonal principal components. Principal component analysis is a helpful tool to convert a dataset with higher number of variables into classifications. This review focuses on recent advances on classification of Turkish plant and nutritional samples. In addition to this, the importance of classification of the biological and chemical samples by principal component analysis is discussed.

In this thesis, two oppositely charged biopolyelectrolytes –alginate and chitosan- were focused on. The interactions between these biopolymers and the effect of surfactants on these biopolymers were studied. Thesis is composed of three chapters. In first chapter. The changes in mechanical properties of the calcium and barium crosslinked alginate hydrogel beads, when sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and Brij 35 were incorporated into the gel structure, were studied. SDS and Brij 35 are negatively charged and nonionic surfactants, respectively. Alginate concentration, types and concentrations of crosslinker and surfactant were found as parameters which affect the elastic properties of alginate hydrogel beads. Modulus of elasticity of the alginate gels increased when SDS was added and decreased in the presence of Brij 35. Therefore it is considered that SDS increases the negative charge density on alginate chain by binding to the chain via hydrophobic interactions. On the other hand, Brij 35 decreased the charge density. Second chapter focuses on the preparation of the alginate – chitosan polyelectroylte multilayer (PEM) films and the effect of surfactants on them by characterizing the samples using ellipsometry, X-ray reflectometry and atomic force microscopy. Results showed that SDS increased the thickness of the PEM films by increasing the adsorbed amount of mass of the alginate – chitosan system. In third chapter, it was aimed to develop a potent wound dressing agent by preparing cerium(III) crosslinked alginate-chitosan films. Mechanical and antimicrobial characterization of the samples indicated the potential of cerium(III) crosslinked alginate-chitosan as wound dressings. This graduate thesis project was derived from the results of the experiments and measurements, which were conducted within the scope of joint doctoral agreement between İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi and Technische Universität Berlin. Die vorliegende Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die beiden entgegengesetzt geladenen Biopolyelectrolyte, Alginate und Chitosan. Die Wechselwirkungen zwischen diesen Biopolymeren und die Wirkung von Tensiden auf diese Biopolymere wurden untersucht. Die Arbeit besteht aus drei Teilen: Im ersten Teil der Dissertation wird die Änderungen der mechanischen Eigenschaften der Calcium- und Barium-vernetzten Alginat-Hydrogelperlen, wenn Natriumdodecylsulfat (SDS) und Brij 35 in die Gelstruktur eingearbeitet wurden, präsentiert. SDS und Brij 35 sind anionisches bzw. Nichtionisches Tensiden. Alginatkonzentration, Typen und Konzentrationen von Vernetzter und Tensid wurden als Parameter gefunden, die elastischen Eigenschaften von Alginat-Hydrogelperlen beeinflussen. Der Elastizitätsmodul der Alginatgele nahm zu, wenn SDS zugegeben und in Gegenwart von Brij 35 vermindert wurde. Daher wird davon ausgegangen, dass SDS die negative Ladungsdichte an der Alginatkette durch Bindung an die Kette über hydrophobe Wechselwirkungen erhöht. Der zweite Teil beschreibt auf die Herstellung der Alginat – Chitosan – Polyelektrolyt-Multischichten (PEMs) und die Wirkung von Tensiden auf sie durch die Charakterisierung der Proben mittels Ellipsometrie, Röntgenreflektometrie und Atomkraftmikroskop. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass SDS die Filmdicke der PEMs erhöhte, indem die adsorbierte Massenmenge des Alginat – Chitosansystems erhöht wurde. Im dritten Teil wurde darauf hingewiesen, ein potentielles Wundverband durch die Herstellung von Cer(III) vernetzten Alginat-Chitosan-Filmen zu entwickeln. Die mechanische und antimikrobielle Charakterisierung der Proben zeigte das Potential von Cer(III) vernetzten Alginat-Chitosan als Wundverbände an. Diese Dissertation wurde aus den Ergebnissen der Experimente und Messungen abgeleitet, die im Rahmen der gemeinsamen Promotionsvereinbarung zwischen der Technischen Universität Berlin und Technische Universität Istanbul durchgeführt wurden. Bu tez çalışmasında karşıt yüklü biyopolielektrolitler olan aljinat ve kitosanın, birbirleri ile ve yüzey aktif maddelerle olan etkileşimleri yapısal olarak aydınlatılmaya çalışılmış ve üç ayrı aşamada deneyler yapılmıştır. Birinci bölümde kalsiyum ve baryum katyonlarıyla çapraz bağlanmış aljinat hidrojellerinin, sırasıyla eksi yüklü ve yüksüz yüzey aktif maddeler olan sodyum dodesil sülfat (SDS) ve Brij 35 ile katkılandırıldığında mekanik özelliklerinin değişimini konu almaktadır. Bu kısımda, hidrojel kürelerinin esneklik katsayısına aljinat derişiminin, katyon derişiminin, yüzey aktif madde türünün ve derişiminin etkileri incelenmiş ve yüzey aktif maddelerin esneklik katsayısını ayarlanabilir biçimde değiştirdiği görülmüştür. SDS’nin aljinat zincirine hidrofobik etkileşimle bağlandığı ve yüzeydeki yük yoğunluğunu yükselterek, çapraz bağlanmayı artırdığı düşünülmektedir. Brij 35 ise ters etki göstererek yük yoğunluğunu azalttığı, dolayısıyla çapraz bağlanma yüzdesinin düştüğü anlaşılmaktadır. İkinci aşamada aljinat ve kitosan çoklu polielektrolit katmanları (PEM) hazırlanmış ve yüzey aktif maddelerin bu yapılara etkisi incelenmiştir. Deneysel olarak elipsometri, X-ışını yansıma ölçümü, atomik kuvvet mikroskopu ve kuvars kristal mikrodenge yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, SDS varlığında filmlerin daha kalın olduğunu göstermektedir. SDS, aljinat – kitosan katmanlarının etkileşimini artırmaktadır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, SDS’nin aljinata hidrofobik etkileşimle bağlandığı savını desteklemektedir. Çalışmanın üçüncü bölümünde ise, potansiyel bir uygulama alanı olarak aljinat – kitosan filmleri seryum(III) iyonlarıyla çapraz bağlanmış, elde edilen filmlerin mekanik ve antimikrobiyal özellikleri incelenmiştir. Bu aşamadaki sonuçlar da yara örtüsü olarak kullanılabileceğini göstermektedir. Bu doktora tez çalışması, İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi ve Berlin Teknik Üniversitesi arasında ortak doktora programı çerçevesinde her iki üniversitede yapılan deney ve ölçümlerin sonuçlarına dayanmaktadır. Tez (Yüksek Lisans) -- İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2011, Thesis (M.Sc.) -- İstanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology, 2011, Günümüzde protein ve peptit yapısındaki ilaçlar çok önemli tedavi edici ilaçlar olarak geliştirilmektedir. Bu tip ilaçların insan vücuduna verilmesinde en önemli engel, protein ve peptit yapısının mide ortamı asitliğinde dayanıklı olmayıp kolaylıkla bozunabilmesidir. Bu nedenle protein yapısındaki ilaçlar klasik olarak vücuda injeksiyon yoluyla verilmektedir. Ancak oral yolla ilaç alımının injeksiyon yoluyla ilaç alımına göre kolaylığı ve kullanıcı açısından istenilirliği son yıllarda protein yapısındaki ilaçların oral olarak etkin bir şekilde vücuda verilmesi konusunda araştırmaları yoğunlaştırmıştır. Protein yapısındaki ilaçların vücutta etkin olması, kontrollu salımının yapılacağı bir ortamın içine kapatılması, mide asitliğinden etkilenmeden alkali barsak ortamına geçmesi ve bu ortamda kontrollu bir şekilde salınması ile gerçekleştirilebilir. Bu çalışmamızda protein olarak seçilen sığır serum albüminin (BSA), aljinat jel küreleri içine hapsedilerek yapay olarak hazırlanan mide ve bağırsak sıvısı ortamına kontrollu salımı incelenmiştir. BSA’nın aljinat küreleri içine ilave edilen kilin ara yüzeylerine girip nanokompozit bir yapı oluşturulması sağlanıp, BSA nın salım hızı yavaşlatılmış ve BSA’nın bozunmadan ve düşük salımla mide ortamından geçip, bağırsak ortamında kontrollu salımını gerçekleştirecek deneysel parametreler saptanmıştır., Protein based drugs and their applications are developing research areas nowadays. Most common problem in such drugs is denaturation of protein and peptide structure in acidic gastric media. In order to avoid this, protein and peptide based drugs are applied by injection. However oral applications are more convenient and demanded by patients. Oral usage of protein and peptide based drugs require an encapsulation, directly passage through stomach and a release in basic intestinal track. In the present work, a model protein, bovine serum albümin (BSA), is encapsulated in clay-modified alginate gel beads. Release behavior, swelling kinetics and other properties of these beads are investigated. It is shown that BSA molecules are placed between clay layers, forming a nanocomposite structure, and this led suggested formula to be more efficient in encapsulation of BSA. The research in biopolymer-based superabsorbents is gaining importance in the green chemistry feld thanks to their environmentally friendly properties. In this study, a biopolymer-based superabsorbent made of calcium ion crosslinked alginate/ carboxymethyl cellulose composite was prepared by a new quasi-cryogelation process, where the complete ionic gelation takes place before the freezing step, in contrast to the conventional cryogelation technique in which gelation occurs under semi-frozen conditions. Thanks to the facile quasi-cryogelation method, the morphology of the gels changed and a signifcant increase in water absorption properties has been achieved. The swelling properties of the material were investigated in distilled water and diferent physiological fuids. Results show that the proposed material shows good water absorption property where a water absorption of 2343% was reached and even after fve cycles this value was 1200%. As a result, this study reports a biopolymer-based sustainable superabsorbent which is appropriate for various applications such as the removal of pollutants from water or diaper production.
