The intracranial cavity contains vitally important organs. The brain, cerebellum, meninges and the vessels that supply these organs are located in the intracranial cavity. Therefore, it is important to learn about the intracranial cavity and to study it. However, there is limited information about the intracranial cavity in the veterinary field. The aim of this study was to determine the differences between the intracranial cavities of different species of animals by using stereology and tomography methods, volume calculations and morphometric measurements. In addition, the compatibility of the methods used with each other was investigated. In the study, six male adult goats and six male adult sheep were used. In this study, the intracranial cavities of sheep and goats were calculated by using Cavalieri's principle and 3D modelling using tomography sections. Morphometric measurements were taken over the intracranial space, and index calculations were made. In 3D models using computed tomography, the intracranial volume was 153.31 ± 24.06 cm3 in goats and 128.07 ± 7.93 cm3 in sheep. In the calculation using Cavalieri's principle, it was determined to be 152.73 ± 22.73 cm3 in goats and 126.15 ± 8.38 cm3 in sheep. As a result of the study, the MWCC (maximum width of the cranial cavity) parameter was found to be statistically significant between species (p < 0.05). The two methods used in Bland‐Altman analysis were found to be within the limits of agreement, and the methods can be alternative to each other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Orbital volume refers to the sum of bulbus oculi volume and orbital cavity volume. Scientists use orbital volume as a guide to diagnose, treat and prognose various eye diseases such as thyroid eye disease and enophthalmos. Objective: This study aims to examine the orbital volumes of sheep, goats and gazelles to demonstrate homotypic variations and interspecific differences between them. Methods: Crania of six male tuj sheep, five male hair goats and five male gazelle were used in this study. The crania were scanned using a 64‐detector multi‐detector computed tomography with a slice thickness of 0.625 mm at 80 kV, 200 MA and 639 mGy. The cross‐sectional images were stored in DICOM format and then transferred to MIMICS 20.1 software. Afterwards, models were made by establishing the orbital borders on the cross‐sections. Volume values were calculated based on the models. Results and Conclusion: No homotypic variation was found between the right and left volumes within the species (p > 0.05). A statistically significant difference was observed in terms of interspecific right and left orbital volumes between sheep and gazelles (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the orbital parameters of the sheep, goats and gazelles in the same family help reveal their differences in the visual anatomy of these species and provide reference data for clinical diagnosis, treatment and the prognosis follow‐up of ocular diseases in animals. Sella turcica is an important anatomical structure that contains the pituitary gland. Changes observed on the sella turcica facilitate the identification of diseases such as Down syndrome, Seckel syndrome and tuberculum sellae meningioma in humans. Therefore, studies in this region are critical for a better understanding of sella turcica. The crania of six adult male tuj sheep, five adult male hair goats and five adult male gazelles were used in the study. Cross‐sectional images of the cranium were captured using computed tomography. Cross‐sectional images were used to model the sella turcica region in 3D, and the region was analysed morphologically and morphometrically. It was observed in the study that fossa hypophysialis, dorsum sella and processus clinoideus caudalis were clearly observed on the sella turcica. The processus clinoideus caudalis in some animals was not split into two. In morphometric analysis, the sella turcica length and sella turcica height (rostral border) parameters were statistically significant between the groups (p < 0.05). Consequently, this study morphological and morphometric examinations were carried out on the sella turcica of different ruminant species, and the differences between the groups were discussed. This study was conducted to produce a three-dimensional model of the thorax and lower respiratory tract in Van cats, to reveal their morphometric properties, and to investigate the anatomical structure of this region in more detail. A total of 16 adult Van cats (8 males and 8 females) were used in the study. The thoracic region of the cats was scanned using multidetector computed tomography device. The images of the scanned region were transferred to the MIMICS 20.1 software that creates three-dimensional reconstruction in order to produce the models. The morphometric measurements were obtained from these models and the index values were calculated. When the data were analysed in terms of sexual dimorphism, significant differences were determined between the sexes in terms of transverse diameter of the thoracic cavity in apertura thoracis cranialis (T2) (P < 0.05), minimum width of apertura thoracis cranialis (T3), and height of the thoracic cavity in thoracis cranialis (H1) (P < 0.01). The index values of the data revealed a significant difference between the sexes only in terms of the thoracic index 2 (P < 0.05). The 7th sternebra was shorter and more flattened than the other sternebrae in Van cats. In conclusion, three-dimensional models of the thorax and lower respiratory tracts of Van cats were produced in the study. The aim of this study is to determine whether or not kinship relations, and breed factors of Hamdani and Awassi sheep have an effect on the shape by using geometric morphometry method through their crania. For this purpose, heads of 7 adult Hamdani sheep and 10 adult Awassi sheep were used for the dorsal analysis of cranium and heads of 8 adult Hamdani and 9 adult Awassi sheep were used for lateral analysis of cranium. In the dorsal and lateral comparison of the breeds, the first principal component (PC1) explained 41.905% and 39.078% of the total shape difference, respectively. When the procrustes coordinates were examined, it was found that the samples were both dorsally and laterally mostly similar to the samples in their own group. Consequently, it is thought that the shape analysis of the crania of Hamdani and Awassi sheep breeds was made in detail by geometric morphometry method; thus, yielding the results that may be basic data for many disciplines, especially zooarchaeology, taxonomy, and forensic sciences were presented. Stereology is a powerful scientific method for estimating the real attributes of three-dimensional structures using calculations on two-dimensional photographs. The goal of this study was to determine the cerebral volume of cats using stereological cranial computed tomography (CT) and to uncover dimorphic differences. The study employed 16 adult Van cats (8 females and 8 males). A multislice CT equipment was utilized to scan the craniums of the cats involved in the study. Stereological computations were performed using 12 section images from cranial CT sections with intracranial borders calculated using a systematic random sampling procedure. Linear measurements of the intracranial region were also taken. When the findings were analysed, it was discovered that intracranial volume values differed across sexes (P<0.05). It was determined that the measured linear parameters and calculated index values did not show dimorphism between the sexes (P>0.05). As a result, it is thought that the determination of the intracranial volumes of Van cats using stereology method will contribute to clinical sciences in terms of diagnosis, detection and treatment of diseases and will allow the comparison of volume values calculated with different methods. The aim of the present study was to determine the craniometric characteristics of the crania of Hamdani sheep, one of local breeds of Turkey, by using computed tomography (CT). In the study, 13 (six female and seven male) skulls were used. After CT images of the skulls were taken, their three‐dimensional models were created by MIMICS 20.1 (The Materialise Group, Leuven, Belgium) program. Thirty‐eight craniometric measurements were taken over the models created and nine indices were calculated by using these measurements. All the characteristics examined were expressed as mean ± SE. In the study, statistically significant differences were found between females and males in terms of greatest neurocranium breadth, facial breadth, greatest palatal breadth (p < 0.05) and height of the foramen magnum (p < 0.01) parameters. No statistically significant difference was observed between the sexes in the calculated index values (p > 0.05). In conclusion, it is thought that the findings obtained from the study will contribute to the zooarchaeology and sheep taxonomy of Mesopotamian region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
