The paper is devoted to prove Allard-Michael-Simon-type $L^p$-Sobolev $(p>1)$ inequalities with explicit constants on Euclidean submanifolds of any codimension. Such inequalities contain, beside the Dirichlet $p$-energy, a term involving the mean curvature of the submanifold. Our results require separate discussions for the cases $p\geq 2$ and $1

The paper is devoted to provide Michael-Simon-type $L^p$-logarithmic-Sobolev inequalities on complete, not necessarily compact $n$-dimensional submanifolds $\Sigma$ of the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^{n+m}$. Our first result, stated for $p=2$, is sharp, it is valid on general submanifolds, and it involves the mean curvature of $\Sigma$. It implies in particular the main result of S. Brendle [Comm. Pure Appl. Math.}, 2022]. In addition, it turns out that equality can only occur if and only if $\Sigma$ is isometric to the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^{n}$ and the extremizer is a Gaussian. The second result is a general $L^p$-logarithmic-Sobolev inequality for $p\geq 2$ on Euclidean submanifolds with constants that are codimension-free in case of minimal submanifolds. In order to prove the above results - especially, to deal with the equality cases - we elaborate the theory of optimal mass transport on submanifolds between measures that are not necessarily compactly supported. Applications are provided to sharp hypercontractivity estimates of Hopf-Lax semigroups on submanifolds. The first hypercontractivity estimate is for general submanifolds with bounded mean curvature vector, the second one is for self-similar shrinkers endowed with the natural Gaussian measure. The validity of functional inequalities on Finsler metric measure manifolds is based on three non-Riemannian quantities, namely, the reversibility, flag curvature and $S$-curvature induced by the measure. Under mild assumptions on the reversibility and flag curvature, it turned out that famous functional inequalities -- as Hardy inequality, Heisenberg--Pauli--Weyl uncertainty principle and Caffarelli--Kohn--Nirenberg inequality -- usually hold on forward complete Finsler manifolds with non-positive $S$-curvature, cf. Huang, Krist\'aly and Zhao [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., 2020]. In this paper however we prove that -- under similar assumptions on the reversibility and flag curvature as before -- the aforementioned functional inequalities fail whenever the $S$-curvature is positive. Accordingly, our results clearly reveal the deep dependence of functional inequalities on the $S$-curvature. As a consequence of these results, we establish surprising analytic aspects of Finsler manifolds: if the flag curvature is non-positive, the Ricci curvature is bounded from below and the $S$-curvature is positive, then the reversibility turns out to be infinite. We study fine properties of the principal frequency of clamped plates in the (possibly singular) setting of metric measure spaces verifying the RCD(0,N) condition, i.e., infinitesimally Hilbertian spaces with non-negative Ricci curvature and dimension bounded above by N>1 in the synthetic sense. The initial conjecture -- an isoperimetric inequality for the principal frequency of clamped plates -- has been formulated in 1877 by Lord Rayleigh in the Euclidean case and solved affirmatively in dimensions 2 and 3 by Ashbaugh and Benguria [Duke Math. J., 1995] and Nadirashvili [Arch. Rat. Mech. Anal., 1995]. The main contribution of the present work is a new isoperimetric inequality for the principal frequency of clamped plates in RCD(0,N) spaces whenever N is close enough to 2 or 3. The inequality contains the so-called ``asymptotic volume ratio", and turns out to be sharp under the subharmonicity of the distance function, a condition satisfied in metric measure cones. In addition, rigidity (i.e., equality in the isoperimetric inequality) and stability results are established in terms of the cone structure of the RCD(0,N) space as well as the shape of the eigenfunction for the principal frequency, given by means of Bessel functions. These results are new even for Riemannian manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature. We discuss examples of both smooth and non-smooth spaces where the results can be applied., Comment: 30 pages

We establish various Hardy inequalities involving the distance function from submanifolds of Riemannian manifolds, where the natural weights are expressed in terms of bounds of the mean curvature of the submanifold and sectional/Ricci curvature of the ambient Riemannian manifold. Our approach is based on subtle Heintze-Karcher-type Laplace comparisons of the distance function and on a D'Ambrosio-Dipierro-type weak divergence formula for suitable vector fields, providing Barbatis-Filippas-Tertikas-type Hardy inequalities in the curved setting. Under very mild assumptions, we also establish the sharpness and non-existence of extremal functions within the Hardy inequalities and - depending on the geometry of the ambient manifold - their extensibility to various function spaces. Several examples are provided by showing the applicability of our approach; in particular, well-known Hardy inequalities appear as limit cases of our new inequalities., Comment: 40 pages

In their seminal work, Cordero-Erausquin, Nazaret and Villani [Adv. Math., 2004] proved sharp Sobolev inequalities in Euclidean spaces via Optimal Mass Transportation, raising the question whether their approach is powerful enough to produce sharp Sobolev inequalities also on Riemannian manifolds. In this paper we affirmatively answer their question for Riemannian manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature; namely, by using Optimal Mass Transportation with quadratic distance cost, sharp $L^p$-Sobolev and $L^p$-logarithmic Sobolev inequalities (both for $p>1$ and $p=1$) are established, where the optimal constants contain the asymptotic volume growth arising from precise asymptotic properties of the Talentian and Gaussian bubbles. As a byproduct, we give an alternative, elementary proof to the main result of do Carmo and Xia [Compos. The goal of this paper is to provide sharp spectral gap estimates for problems involving higher-order operators (including both the clamped and buckling plate problems) on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds. The proofs are symmetrization-free -- thus no sharp isoperimetric inequality is needed -- based on two general, yet elementary functional inequalities. The spectral gap estimate for clamped plates solves a sharp asymptotic problem from Cheng and Yang [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 2011] concerning the behavior of higher-order eigenvalues on hyperbolic spaces, and answers a question raised in Krist\'aly [Adv. Math., 2020] on the validity of such sharp estimates in high-dimensional Cartan-Hadamard manifolds. We present a generic functional inequality on Riemannian manifolds, both in additive and multiplicative forms, that produces well known and genuinely new Hardy-type inequalities. For the additive version, we introduce Riccati pairs that extend Bessel pairs developed by Ghoussoub and Moradifam (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 2008 & Math.A nn., 2011). This concept enables us to give very short/elegant proofs of a number of celebrated functional inequalities on Riemannian manifolds with sectional curvature bounded from above by simply solving a Riccati-type ODE. Among others, we provide alternative proofs for Caccioppoli inequalities, Hardy-type inequalities and their improvements, spectral gap estimates, interpolation inequalities, and Ghoussoub-Moradifam-type weighted inequalities. Concerning the multiplicative form, we prove sharp uncertainty principles on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds, i.e., Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl uncertainty principles, Hydrogen uncertainty principles and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. Given $p,N>1,$ we prove the sharp $L^p$-log-Sobolev inequality on noncompact metric measure spaces satisfying the ${\sf CD}(0,N)$ condition, where the optimal constant involves the asymptotic volume ratio of the space. This proof is based on a sharp isoperimetric inequality in ${\sf CD}(0,N)$ spaces, symmetrisation, and a careful scaling argument. As an application we establish a sharp hypercontractivity estimate for the Hopf-Lax semigroup in ${\sf CD}(0,N)$ spaces. The proof of this result uses Hamilton-Jacobi inequality and Sobolev regularity properties of the Hopf-Lax semigroup, which turn out to be essential in the present setting of nonsmooth and noncompact spaces. Furthermore, a sharp Gaussian-type $L^2$-log-Sobolev inequality is also obtained in ${\sf RCD}(0,N)$ spaces. Our results are new, even in the smooth setting of Riemannian/Finsler manifolds. We prove Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities with three weights -- verifying a joint concavity condition -- on open convex cones of $\mathbb R^n$. If the weights are equal to each other the inequalities become sharp and we compute explicitly the sharp constants. For a certain range of parameters we can characterize the class of extremal functions; in this case, we also show that the sharpness in the main three-weighted Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality implies that the weights must be equal up to some constant multiplicative factors. Our approach uses optimal mass transport theory and a careful analysis of the joint concavity condition of the weights. We investigate a large class of elliptic differential inclusions on non-compact complete Riemannian manifolds which involves the Laplace-Beltrami operator and a Hardy-type singular term. Depending on the behavior of the nonlinear term and on the curvature of the Riemannian manifold, we guarantee non-existence and existence/multiplicity of solutions for the studied differential inclusion. The proofs are based on nonsmooth variational analysis as well as isometric actions and fine eigenvalue properties on Riemannian manifolds. We affirmatively solve the analogue of Lord Rayleigh's conjecture on Riemannian manifolds with positive Ricci curvature for any clamped plates in 2 and 3 dimensions, and for sufficiently large clamped plates in dimensions beyond 3. These results complement those from the flat (M. Ashbaugh & R. Benguria, 1995, and N. Nadirashvili, 1995) and negatively curved (A. Krist\'aly, 2020) cases that are valid only in 2 and 3 dimensions, and at the same time also provide the first positive answer to Lord Rayleigh's conjecture in higher dimensions. The proofs rely on an Ashbaugh-Benguria-Nadirashvili-Talenti nodal-decomposition argument, on the L\'evy-Gromov isoperimetric inequality, on fine properties of Gaussian hypergeometric functions and on sharp spectral gap estimates of fundamental tones for both small and large clamped spherical caps. Our results show that positive curvature enhances genuine differences between low- and high-dimensional settings, a tacitly accepted paradigm in the theory of vibrating clamped plates. In the limit case - when the Ricci curvature is non-negative - we establish a Lord Rayleigh-type isoperimetric inequality that involves the asymptotic volume ratio of the non-compact complete Riemannian manifold; moreover, the inequality is strongly rigid in 2 and 3 dimensions, i.e., if equality holds for a given clamped plate then the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space., Comment: 44 pages; 4 figures; 3 tables. By using optimal mass transport theory, we provide a direct proof to the sharp $L^p$-log-Sobolev inequality $(p\geq 1)$ involving a log-concave homogeneous weight on an open convex cone $E\subseteq \mathbb R^n$. The perk of this proof is that it allows to characterize the extremal functions realizing the equality cases in the $L^p$-log-Sobolev inequality. The characterization of the equality cases is new for $p\geq n$ even in the unweighted setting and $E=\mathbb R^n$. Combining the sharp isoperimetric inequality established by Z. Balogh and A. Krist\'aly [Math. Ann., in press, doi:10.1007/s00208-022-02380-1] with an anisotropic symmetrization argument, we establish sharp Morrey-Sobolev inequalities on $n$-dimensional Finsler manifolds having nonnegative $n$-Ricci curvature. A byproduct of this method is a Hardy-Sobolev-type inequality in the same geometric setting. As applications, by using variational arguments, we guarantee the existence/multiplicity of solutions for certain eigenvalue problems and elliptic PDEs involving the Finsler-Laplace operator. The paper is devoted to the study of Gromov-Hausdorff convergence and stability of irreversible metric-measure spaces, both in the compact and noncompact cases. While the compact setting is mostly similar to the reversible case developed by J. Lott, K.-T. Sturm and C. Villani, the noncompact case provides various surprising phenomena. Since the reversibility of noncompact irreversible spaces might be infinite, it is motivated to introduce a suitable nondecreasing function that bounds the reversibility of larger and larger balls. By this approach, we are able to prove satisfactory convergence/stability results in a suitable -- reversibility depending -- Gromov-Hausdorff topology. A wide class of irreversible spaces is provided by Finsler manifolds, which serve to construct various model examples by pointing out genuine differences between the reversible and irreversible settings. We conclude the paper by proving various geometric and functional inequalities (as Brunn-Minkowski, Bishop-Gromov, log-Sobolev and Lichnerowicz inequalities) on irreversible structures., Comment: 65 pages

By using optimal mass transport theory we prove a sharp isoperimetric inequality in ${\sf CD} (0,N)$ metric measure spaces assuming an asymptotic volume growth at infinity. We establish a bipolar Hardy inequality on complete, not necessarily reversible Finsler manifolds. We show that our result strongly depends on the geometry of the Finsler structure, namely on the reversibility constant $r_F$ and the uniformity constant $l_F$. Our result represents a Finslerian counterpart of the Euclidean multipolar Hardy inequality due to Cazacu and Zuazua (2013) and the Riemannian case considered by Faraci, Farkas and Krist\'aly (2018).

Given a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ with certain curvature restrictions, we introduce an expansion condition concerning a group of isometries $G$ of $(M,g)$ that characterizes the coerciveness of $G$ in the sense of Skrzypczak and Tintarev (Arch. Math., 2013). Furthermore, under these conditions, compact Sobolev-type embeddings \`a la Berestycki-Lions are proved for the full range of admissible parameters (Sobolev, Moser-Trudinger and Morrey). We also consider the case of non-compact Randers-type Finsler manifolds with finite reversibility constant inheriting similar embedding properties as their Riemannian companions; sharpness of such constructions are shown by means of the Funk model. We study Lord Rayleigh's problem for clamped plates on an arbitrary $n$-dimensional $(n\geq 2)$ Cartan-Hadamard manifold $(M,g)$ with sectional curvature $\textbf{K}\leq -\kappa^2$ for some $\kappa\geq 0.$ We first prove a McKean-type spectral gap estimate, i.e. the fundamental tone of any domain in $(M,g)$ is universally bounded from below by $\frac{(n-1)^4}{16}\kappa^4$ whenever the $\kappa$-Cartan-Hadamard conjecture holds on $(M,g)$, e.g. in 2- and 3-dimensions due to Bol (1941) and Kleiner (1992), respectively. In 2- and 3-dimensions we prove sharp isoperimetric inequalities for sufficiently small clamped plates, i.e. the fundamental tone of any domain in $(M,g)$ of volume $v>0$ is not less than the corresponding fundamental tone of a geodesic ball of the same volume $v$ in the space of constant curvature $-\kappa^2$ provided that $v\leq c_n/\kappa^n$ with $c_2\approx 21.031$ and $c_3\approx 1.721$, respectively. In particular, Rayleigh's problem in Euclidean spaces resolved by Nadirashvili (1992) and Ashbaugh and Benguria (1995) appears as a limiting case in our setting (i.e. $\textbf{K}\equiv\kappa=0$). The sharpness of our results requires the validity of the $\kappa$-Cartan-Hadamard conjecture (i.e. sharp isoperimetric inequality on $(M,g)$) and peculiar properties of the Gaussian hypergeometric function, both valid only in dimensions 2 and 3; nevertheless, some nonoptimal estimates of the fundamental tone of arbitrary clamped plates are also provided in high-dimensions. Let $(M,g)$ be an $n$-dimensional $(n\geq 3)$ compact Riemannian manifold with Ric$_{(M,g)}\geq (n-1)g$. If $(M,g)$ supports an AB-type critical Sobolev inequality with Sobolev constants close to the optimal ones corresponding to the standard unit sphere $(\mathbb S^n,g_0)$, we prove that $(M,g)$ is topologically close to $(\mathbb S^n,g_0)$. In this paper we investigate the spectral problem in Finsler geometry. Due to the nonlinearity of the Finsler-Laplacian operator, we introduce \textit{faithful dimension pairs} by means of which the spectrum of a compact reversible Finsler metric measure manifold is defined. Various upper and lower bounds of such eigenvalues are provided in the spirit of Cheng, Buser and Gromov, which extend in several aspects the results of Hassannezhad, Kokarev and Polterovich. Moreover, we construct several faithful dimension pairs based on Lusternik-Schnirelmann category, Krasnoselskii genus and essential dimension, respectively; however, we also show that the Lebesgue covering dimension pair is not faithful. As an application, we show that the Bakry-\'Emery spectrum of a closed weighted Riemannian manifold can be characterized by the faithful Lusternik-Schnirelmann dimension pair.

The paper is devoted to sharp uncertainty principles (Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl, Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg and Hardy inequalities) on forward complete Finsler manifolds endowed with an arbitrary measure. Under mild assumptions, the existence of extremals corresponding to the sharp constants in the Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities fully characterizes the nature of the Finsler manifold in terms of three non-Riemannian quantities, namely, its reversibility and the vanishing of the flag curvature and $S$-curvature induced by the measure, respectively. It turns out in particular that the Busemann-Hausdorff measure is the optimal one in the study of sharp uncertainty principles on Finsler manifolds. This paper is devoted to investigate an interpolation inequality between the Brezis-V\'azquez and Poincar\'e inequalities (shortly, BPV inequality) on nonnegatively curved spaces. As a model case, we first prove that the BPV inequality holds on any Minkowski space, by fully characterizing the existence and shape of its extremals. We then prove that if a complete Finsler manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature supports the BPV inequality, then its flag curvature is identically zero. In particular, we deduce that a Berwald space of nonnegative Ricci curvature supports the BPV inequality if and only if it is isometric to a Minkowski space. Our arguments explore fine properties of Bessel functions, comparison principles, and anisotropic symmetrization on Minkowski spaces. As an application, we characterize the existence of nonzero solutions for a quasilinear PDE involving the Finsler-Laplace operator and a Hardy-type singularity on Minkowski spaces where the sharp BPV inequality plays a crucial role. In this paper we fully characterize the sequentially weakly lower semicontinuity of the parameter-depending energy functional associated with the critical Kirchhoff problem. We also establish sufficient criteria with respect to the parameters for the convexity and validity of the Palais-Smale condition of the same energy functional. The paper is devoted to the study of fine properties of the first eigenvalue on negatively curved spaces. First, depending on the parity of the space dimension, we provide asymptotically sharp harmonic-type expansions of the first eigenvalue for large geodesic balls in the model $n$-dimensional hyperbolic space, complementing the results of Borisov and Freitas (\textit{Comm. Anal. Geom.} 25: 507--544, 2017). We then give a synthetic proof of Cheng's sharp eigenvalue comparison theorem in metric measure spaces satisfying a 'negatively curved' Bishop-Gromov-type volume monotonicity hypothesis. As a byproduct, we provide an example of simply connected, non-compact Finsler manifold with constant negative flag curvature whose first eigenvalue is zero; this result is in a sharp contrast with its celebrated Riemannian counterpart due to McKean (\textit{J. Differential Geom.} 4: 359--366, 1970).
