Background: The risk of aspiration is high in stroke patients due to dysphagia/loss of swallowing. This problem can cause problems affecting the nutrition of patients. Due to the possible risk of aspiration during feeding, patient relatives are hesitant to feed their patients. Because of this fear, malnutrition and hospital readmissions may increase. It is important to evaluate the fear of aspiration risk of relatives of patients hospitalized in the neurology service. The aim of this study is to determine the views of the relatives of patients treated in the neurology service about the risk of aspiration through metaphors. Method: This article analyzed metaphors of patients' relatives' about the risk of aspiration. The analysis uses metaphor identification and analysis. The research sample consisted of 31 patients. First of all, in the study, evaluation of the data was conducted by performing content analysis, as a result of which it was divided into metaphors and conceptual categories, and the relevant field was associated with the text (event, thought, feelings, related in speech or writing). In the reporting of research, the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) checklist was used. Results: It was seen that the patients' relatives produced 31 different metaphors in response to the statement 'Aspiration risk is like ..., because it is ...' The patients' relatives mostly compared the concept of 'fear of aspiration' to the concept of 'fear' (n: 24). Conclusions: In this study, relatives mostly described the concept of fear related to the risk of aspiration. According to this result, patients' relatives have a great fear of aspiration increasing the risk of readmission to hospital and of malnutrition. This result shows that informing patients' relatives will increase awareness and will allow them to provide informed care. Patient and Public Contribution: Collaborated with patients and their relatives regarding the risk of aspiration and contributed to the planning of care for the risk of aspiration. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine vocational school students’ beliefs and attitudes towards breast cancer.Materials and Methods: The descriptive study was conducted with 255 female students at Kastamonu University Taşköprü Vocational School in the 2018-2019 Academic Year. Data were collected using a “Descriptive Characteristics Form” and Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale" for breast cancer screening. Results: The mean age of participants was 19.74±18.4 years and 48.6% were medical documentation and secretarial students. Participants’ CHBMS subscale scores showed that they had high perceptions of benefits of breast self-examination, low perceptions of seriousness, barriers to performing breast self-examination and health motivation. Participants who performed breast self-examination had higher perceptions of benefits of breast self-examination and confidence/self-efficacy and lower perceptions of barriers to performing breast self-examination than those who had never performed breast self-examination before (p, Amaç: Bu çalışma, meslek yüksekokulu öğrencilerinin meme kanserine ilişkin inanç ve tutumlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır.

SUMMARYThe aim of the study was to assess the symptoms of cancer patients during mechanical ventilation, who were being treated at the intensive care following major surgical intervention, and to determine the care needs of the cancer patients in intensive care units. The study adopted a descriptive design. The sample was comprised of 60 cancer patients who were mechanically ventilated for 1-2 hour(s), who were not being sedated, who were conscious and who were willing to participate into the study. A total 8 nurses, who provided direct care to the patient sample, were included in to study. The study was conducted at one private hospital in Istanbul. In addition to patients? reports, the nurse sample rated their perceptions about their patients? symptoms. The study was done between April and July 2011. The data were gathered using Patient Information Form and Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale. Mean age of the sample was 62.28 ± 15.02 (range: 27 - 86), 60% (n = 36) were males, and 66.7% (n = 40) were married. More than fifteen percent of the sample (16.7%) were diagnosed with pancreas cancer, 13.3% (n=8) colorectal cancer, and 13.3% (n=8) stomach cancer, 26.7% (n=16) underwent chemotherapy. Sample was predominantly diagnosed with stage II cancer (41.7%) or stage III cancer (40%). Patients? mean scores of Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale were 55.17 ± 26.16 (range: 10 -112). Nurses? assessments scores of Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale were 55.48 ± 27.13 (range: 7 ? 120). Study found no statistical differences between scores of patients? symptom assessments and nurses? assessments regarding patients? symptoms, except Pain symptom (p > 0.05). Patients had higher pain scores than nurses? perceptions regarding pain in patients (Z = - 2.311, p = 0.021). Study showed that systematic and close symptom assessments in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy should be an integral part of the nursing reports, and it is very important for nurses working at oncology units to assess patients? symptoms related to the cancer itself or treatment. Keywords: Intensive care, symptom assessment, ventilator. 118
