Search

Understanding the survival of gas within subhalos under various astrophysical processes is crucial for elucidating cosmic structure formation and evolution. We study the resilience of gas in subhalos, focusing on the impact of tidal and ram pressure stripping through hydrodynamic simulations. Our results uncover significant gas stripping primarily driven by ram pressure effects, which also profoundly influence the gas distribution within these subhalos. Notably, despite their vulnerability to ram pressure effects, the low-mass subhalos can play a pivotal role in influencing the observable characteristics of cosmic structures due to their large abundance. Specifically, we explore the application of our findings to the 21 cm forest, showing how the survival dynamics of gas in subhalos can modulate the 21 cm optical depth, a key probe for detecting minihalos in the pre-reionization era. (abridged) In this work, we further investigate the contribution of subhalos to the 21 cm optical depth with hydrodynamics simulations, particularly highlighting the trajectories and fates of subhalos within mass ranges of \(10^{4-6} M_{\odot}h^{-1}\) in a host halo of \(10^7 M_{\odot}h^{-1}\). Despite their susceptibility to ram pressure stripping, the contribution of abundant low-mass subhalos to the 21-cm optical depth is more significant than that of their massive counterparts primarily due to their greater abundance. We find that the 21-cm optical depth can be increased by a factor of approximately two due to the abundant low-mass subhalos. We apply the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to the mock 21cm maps from the post-reionization epoch to show that the $\Lambda$CDM and warm dark matter (WDM) model can be distinguished for WDM particle masses $m_{FD}<3$ keV, under the assumption of thermal production of WDM following the Fermi-Dirac (FD) distribution. We demonstrate that the CNN is a potent tool in distinguishing the dark matter masses, highlighting its sensitivity to the subtle differences in the 21cm maps produced by varying dark matter masses. Furthermore, we extend our analysis to encompass different WDM production mechanisms, recognizing that the dark matter production mechanism in the early Universe is among the sources of the most significant uncertainty for the dark matter model building. In this work, given the mass of the dark matter, we discuss the feasibility of discriminating four different WDM models: Fermi-Dirac (FD) distribution model, neutrino Minimal Standard Model ($\nu$MSM), Dodelson-Widrow (DW), and Shi-Fuller (SF) model. For instance, when the WDM mass is 2 keV, we show that one can differentiate between CDM, FD, $\nu$MSM, and DW models while discerning between the DW and SF models turns out to be challenging. Our results reinforce the viability of the CNN as a robust analysis for 21cm maps and shed light on its potential to unravel the features associated with different dark matter production mechanisms., Comment: 16 pages, 13 figures

If dark matter is made of QCD axions, its abundance is determined by the vacuum expectation value acquired by the axion field during inflation. The axion is usually assumed to follow the equilibrium distribution arising from quantum diffusion during inflation. This leads to the so-called stochastic window under which the QCD axion can make up all the dark matter. It is characterised by $10^{10.4}\mathrm{GeV}\leq f\leq 10^{17.2}\mathrm{GeV}$ and $H_{\mathrm{end}}>10^{-2.2}\mathrm{GeV}$, where $f$ is the axion decay constant and $H_{\mathrm{end}}$ is the Hubble expansion rate at the end of inflation. However, in realistic inflationary potentials, we show that the axion never reaches the equilibrium distribution at the end of inflation. This is because the relaxation time of the axion is much larger than the typical time scale over which $H$ varies during inflation. As a consequence, the axion acquires a quasi-flat distribution as long as it remains light during inflation. This leads us to reassessing the stochastic axion window, and we find that $ 10^{10.3}\mathrm{GeV}\leq f\leq 10^{14.1}\mathrm{GeV}$ and $H_{\mathrm{end}}>10^{-13.8}\mathrm{GeV}$., Comment: 28 pages, 8 figures, minor changes, matches the published version in JCAP

We investigate the potential of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) in detecting synchrotron radiation emitted from the decay of sub-GeV dark matter (dark matter with masses below the GeV scale) in the presence of strong magnetic fields. As a concrete setup, we consider scenarios where the magnetosphere of a magnetic white dwarf overlaps with dense dark matter environments, such as those surrounding a primordial black hole. Our study reveals that the encounters of compact objects such as white dwarfs and black holes offer a promising avenue for upcoming radio telescopes to probe the properties of light dark matter, which has been less explored compared with more conventional heavier (masses above the GeV scale) dark matter., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

The presence of dark matter overdensities surrounding a black hole can influence the evolution of a binary system. The gravitational wave signals emitted by a black hole binary offer a promising means to probe the dark matter environments near a black hole. The dense region of dark matter can lead to the dephasing of gravitational waveforms, which can be detected by upcoming experiments such as the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). The dark matter density profile around the black hole can vary for different dark matter models. Our study specifically investigates the impact of the ultralight self-interacting scalar dark matter (SIDM) on the gravitational wave signals emitted by black hole binaries. A distinctive characteristic of SIDM surrounding a black hole, as opposed to collisionless dark matter, is the formation of a soliton core. We study the effect of the relative velocity between the dark matter (DM) and the baryon on the 21cm forest signals. The DM-baryon relative velocity arises due to their different evolutions before the baryon-photon decoupling epoch and it gives an additional anisotropic pressure that can suppress the perturbation growth. It is intriguing that the scales $k\sim {\cal O}(10\sim 10^3)h/\mathrm{Mpc}$ at which the matter power spectrum is affected by such a streaming velocity turns out to be the scale at which the 21cm forest signal is sensitive to. We demonstrate that the 21cm absorption line abundance can decrease by more than a factor of a few due to the small-scale matter power spectrum suppression caused by the DM-baryon relative velocity., Comment: 10pages,9 figures. We study the contribution of subhalos to the 21 cm forest signal. The halos can host the substructures and including the effects of those small scale clumps can potentially boost the 21 cm optical depth in favor of detecting the 21 cm forest signals. We estimate the boost factor representing the ratio of the optical depth due to the subhalo contribution and that due to the host halo alone (without subhalos). Even though the optical depth boost factor is negligible for a small host halo with the mass of order $10^5 M_{\odot}$, the subhalo contribution can enhance the optical depth by an order of magnitude for a host halo of order $10^7 M_{\odot}$. The resultant 21 cm absorption line abundance which is obtained by integrating over the halo mass range relevant for the 21 cm forest signal can be enhanced by up to of order $10\%$ due to the substructures. The larger boost factor for a larger host halo would be of particular interest for the 21 cm forest detection because the the contribution of the larger host halos to the 21 cm forest signals is smaller due to their higher temperature and less abundance than the smaller host halos. The subhalos hence can well help the larger host halos more important for the signal estimation which, without considering the subhalos, may not give appreciable contribution to 21 cm forest signals., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

We study the synchrotron radio emission in the mixed dark matter scenarios consisting of the primordial black holes (PBHs) and the self-annihilating WIMPs (weakly interacting massive particles). The WIMPs can form the ultracompact minihalos around PBHs and the annihilation enhancement from these dense halos can lead to the efficient synchrotron radiation at the radio frequency in the presence of galactic magnetic fields. The upper bound of PBH fraction with respect to the total dark matter abundance is of order $10^{-8}\sim 10^{-5}$ depending on the electroweak scale WIMP mass ($m_{\chi}=10\sim 1000$ GeV) and the WIMP annihilation channel (e.g. a hadronic $\chi \chi \rightarrow b \bar{b}$ or a leptonic $\chi \chi \rightarrow e^+ e^-$ channel). The PBH contribution to the total dark matter abundance is hence negligible when the other component of dark matter is composed of the conventional electroweak scale WIMPs., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

We study the allowed primordial black hole (PBH) dark matter abundance in the mixed dark matter scenarios consisting of PBHs and self-annihilating weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with a velocity dependent annihilation cross section. We first briefly illustrate how the WIMP dark matter halo profile changes for the velocity suppressed p-wave annihilation scenarios, compared with the familiar s-wave annihilation scenarios, and then discuss the PBH mass dependent upper bound on the allowed PBH dark matter abundance. The WIMPs can accrete onto a PBH to form an ultracompact minihalo with a spiky density profile. Such a spike is moderated in the central region of a halo because the WIMPs are annihilated away and this moderation is less effective for a smaller annihilation cross section. The WIMP core density becomes larger while the core radius becomes smaller for a velocity suppressed p-wave annihilation cross section than those for the s-wave annihilation scenarios. The annihilation cross section is dependent on the velocity which varies across the halo, and, in addition to the change of the WIMP density profile, another interesting feature is the PBH mass dependent bound on PBH dark matter abundance. This is in stark contrast to the s-wave annihilation scenarios where the PBH abundance bound is independent of the PBH mass. The allowed PBH dark matter fraction (with respect to the total dark matter abundance) is of order $f_{PBH}\lesssim {\cal O}(10^{-7})(M_{\odot}/M_{PBH})^{(-6+2\gamma_{sp})/(3\gamma_{sp}+3)}$ for the thermal relic p-wave dark matter with the mass $100$ GeV where $\gamma_{sp}$ is the slope index of the spike profile, to be compared with $f_{PBH}\lesssim {\cal O}(10^{-9})$ for the corresponding thermal relic s-wave dark matter scenarios., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

We present forecasts on the detectability of Ultra-light axion-like particles (ULAP) from future 21cm radio observations around the epoch of reionization (EoR). We show that the axion as the dominant dark matter component has a significant impact on the reionization history due to the suppression of small scale density perturbations in the early universe. This behavior depends strongly on the mass of the axion particle. Using numerical simulations of the brightness temperature field of neutral hydrogen over a large redshift range, we construct a suite of training data. This data is used to train a convolutional neural network that can build a connection between the spatial structures of the brightness temperature field and the input axion mass directly. We construct mock observations of the future Square Kilometer Array survey, SKA1-Low, and find that even in the presence of realistic noise and resolution constraints, the network is still able to predict the input axion mass. We find that the axion mass can be recovered over a wide mass range with a precision of approximately 20\%, and as the whole DM contribution, the axion can be detected using SKA1-Low at 68\% if the axion mass is $M_X<1.86 \times10^{-20}$eV although this can decrease to $M_X<5.25 \times10^{-21}$eV if we relax our assumptions on the astrophysical modeling by treating those astrophysical parameters as nuisance parameters., Comment: 18 pages, 11 figures, accepted in JCAP

The dark matter (DM) can consist of the primordial black holes (PBHs) in addition to the conventional weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs). The Poisson fluctuations of the PBH number density produce the isocurvature perturbations which can dominate the matter power spectrum at small scales and enhance the early structure formation. We study how the WIMP annihilation from those early formed structures can affect the CMB (in particular the E-mode polarization anisotropies and $y$-type spectral distortions) and global 21cm signals. Our studies would be of particular interest for the light (sub-GeV) WIMP scenarios which have been less explored compared with the mixed DM scenarios consisting of PBHs and heavy ($\gtrsim 1$ GeV) WIMPs. For instance, for the self-annihilating DM mass $m_{\chi}=1$ MeV and the thermally averaged annihilation cross section $\langle \sigma v \rangle \sim 10^{-30} \rm cm^3/s$, the latest Planck CMB data requires the PBH fraction with respect to the whole DM to be at most ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$ for the sub-solar mass PBHs and an even tighter bound (by a factor $\sim 5$) can be obtained from the global 21-cm measurements., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures

We consider the dark matter (DM) scenarios consisting of the mixture of WIMPs and PBHs and study how much fraction of the total DM can be PBHs. In such scenarios, PBHs can accrete the WIMPs and consequently enhance the heating and ionization in the intergalactic medium due to WIMP annihilations. We demonstrate that the CMB data can give the stringent bounds on the allowed PBH fraction which are comparable or even tighter than those from the gamma ray data depending on the DM masses. For instance, the MCMC likelihood analysis using the Planck CMB data leads to the bound on PBH DM fraction with respect to the total dark matter $f_{\rm PBH} \lesssim {\cal O}( 10^{-10}\sim 10^{-8})$ for the WIMP mass $m_{\chi}\sim {\cal O}(10\sim 10^3)$ GeV with the conventional DM annihilation cross section $\langle \sigma v \rangle=3 \times 10^{-26}~\rm cm^3/s $. We explore the possibility that the annihilation of dark matter (DM) is boosted due to enhanced substructure in the presence of primordial black holes (PBHs) which constitute a sub-component of DM. The PBHs can generate entropy fluctuations at the small scales which trigger early structure formation, and a large fraction of the whole DM can reside in these collapsed objects that formed at high redshift ($z\gtrsim 100$). Such early forming minihalos consequently possess higher densities than those in the conventional scenarios (without PBHs) and would be more resilient to tidal disruptions. If the symmetry breaking inducing the axion occurs after the inflation, the large axion isocurvature perturbations can arise due to a different axion amplitude in each causally disconnected patch. This causes the enhancement of the small-scale density fluctuations which can significantly affect the evolution of structure formation. The epoch of the small halo formation becomes earlier and we estimate the abundance of those minihalos which can host the neutral hydrogen atoms to result in the 21cm fluctuation signals. We find that the future radio telescopes, such as the SKA, can put the axion mass bound of order $m_a \gtrsim 10^{-13}$ eV for the simple temperature-independent axion mass model, and the bound can be extended to of order $m_a \gtrsim 10^{-8}$eV for a temperature-dependent axion mass., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures

We study the future prospects of the 21cm forest observations on the axion-like dark matter when the spontaneous breaking of the global Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry occurs after the inflation. The large isocurvature perturbations of order unity sourced from axion-like particles can result in the enhancement of minihalo formation, and the subsequent hierarchical structure formation can affect the minihalo abundance whose masses can exceed ${\cal O}(10^4) M_{\odot}$ relevant for the 21cm forest observations. We show that the 21cm forest observations are capable of probing the axion-like particle mass in the range $10^{-18}\lesssim m_a \lesssim 10^{-12}$ eV for the temperature independent axion mass. It was recently proposed that a field theory cannot be consistent with quantum gravity if it allows a mode shorter than the Planck length to exit the Hubble horizon. This is called the Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC). We discuss the implications of the TCC on the possible shape of the inflaton potential in single-field slow-roll inflation. We point out that (1) there is generically an initial condition in which the total e-folding number $N_\text{total}$ is doubled or more compared to the e-folds necessary for the cosmic microwave background fluctuations, and (2) a sizable negative running of spectral index is generically expected to make $N_\text{total}$ small. In concrete setups, we find a stringent constraint on the inflationary energy scale, $V_\text{inf}^{1/4} < \mathcal{O}(10) \, \text{TeV}$ with $r < \mathcal{O}(10^{-50})$, and the running parameter is bounded above as $\alpha_\text{s} \lesssim - 4 \times 10^{-3}$., Comment: 30 pages, 4 figures; published version (minor revision)

The ultra-light scalar fields can arise ubiquitously, for instance, as a result of the spontaneous breaking of an approximate symmetry such as the axion and more generally the axion-like particles. In addition to the particle physics motivations, these particles can also play a major role in cosmology by contributing to dark matter abundance and affecting the structure formation at sub-Mpc scales. In this paper, we propose to use the 21cm forest observations to probe the nature of ultra-light dark matter. The 21cm forest can probe much smaller scales than the Lyman-$\alpha$ forest, that is, $k\gtrsim 10\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$. We explore the range of the ultra-light dark matter mass $m_{u}$ and $f_u$, the fraction of ultra-light dark matter with respect to the total matter, which can be probed by the 21cm forest. We find that 21cm forest can potentially put the dark matter mass lower bound $m_u \gtrsim 10^{-18}$ eV for $f_u=1$, which is 3 orders of magnitude bigger mass scale than those probed by the current Lyman-$\alpha$ forest observations.While the effects of the ultra-light particles on the structure formation become smaller when the dominant component of dark matter is composed of the conventional cold dark matter, we find that the 21cm forest is still powerful enough to probe the sub-component ultra-light dark matter mass up to the order of $10^{-19}$ eV. We consider the cosmological relaxation solution to the electroweak hierarchy problem using the fermion production as a dominant friction force. In our approach, neither super-Planckian field excursions nor a large number of e-folds arise, and scanning over thermal Higgs mass squared is avoided. We study the cross-correlation between the 21cm and CMB B mode fluctuations which are induced by the cosmic birefringence when the non-constant scalar field couples to the electromagnetic field strength. Such multi-wavelength signals can potentially probe the reionization history of the Universe and also explore the nature of fundamental physics such as the parity violation and the scalar field dynamics in the early Universe. We illustrate the feasibility to detect such 21cm-B mode cross-correlations through commonly discussed scalar field models, the quintessence-like scalar field which is responsible for the current dark energy and the axion-like scalar field which is responsible for the current dark matter density.

The hot dense environment of the early universe is known to have produced large numbers of baryons, photons, and neutrinos. These extreme conditions may have also produced other long-lived species, including new light particles (such as axions or sterile neutrinos) or gravitational waves. The gravitational effects of any such light relics can be observed through their unique imprint in the cosmic microwave background (CMB), the large-scale structure, and the primordial light element abundances, and are important in determining the initial conditions of the universe. We argue that future cosmological observations, in particular improved maps of the CMB on small angular scales, can be orders of magnitude more sensitive for probing the thermal history of the early universe than current experiments. These observations offer a unique and broad discovery space for new physics in the dark sector and beyond, even when its effects would not be visible in terrestrial experiments or in astrophysical environments. We investigate the detectability of axino-like particle, which is defined as a supersymmetric partner of axion-like particle and can be a good candidate for dark matter in our Universe. We present the cosmological constraints on the cross section of baryon-dark matter interactions for the dark matter mass below the MeV scale from the Planck CMB (cosmic microwave background) and SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) Lyman-$\alpha$ forest data. To explore the dark matter mass $m_{\chi}\lesssim 1$ MeV for which the dark matter's free-streaming effect can suppress the observable small scale density fluctuations, in addition to the acoustic oscillation damping in existence of the baryon-dark matter coupling, we apply the approximated treatment of dark matter free-streaming analogous to that of the conventional warm dark matter. We also demonstrate the mass dependence of the baryon-dark matter cross section bounds (for the dark matter mass down to $m_{\chi} \sim 5~{\rm keV}$), in contrast to the dark matter mass independence of the cross section constraints for the light dark matter below the MeV scale claimed in the previous literature., Comment: 8 pages, 13 figures, 2 tables

An electroweak multiplet stable due to a new global symmetry is a simple and well-motivated candidate for thermal dark matter. We study how direct searches at a future linear collider, such as the proposed CLIC, can constrain scalar and fermion triplets, quintets and septets, as well as a fermion doublet. The phenomenology is highly sensitive to charged state lifetimes and thus the mass splitting between the members of the multiplet. We include both radiative corrections and the effect of non-renormalisable operators on this splitting. In order to explore the full range of charged state lifetimes, we consider signals including long-lived charged particles, disappearing tracks, and monophotons. By combining the different searches we find discovery and exclusion contours in the mass-lifetime plane. In particular, when the mass splitting is generated purely through radiative corrections, we can exclude the pure-Higgsino doublet below 310 GeV, the pure-wino triplet below 775 GeV, and the minimal dark matter fermion quintet below 1025 GeV. The scenario where the thermal relic abundance of a Higgsino accounts for the whole dark matter of the Universe can be excluded if the mass splitting between the charged and neutral states is less than 230 MeV. We revisit the minimal supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theory with three right-handed neutrinos in which universality conditions for soft-supersymmetry breaking parameters are imposed at an input scale above the unification scale. If the Majorana masses for the neutrinos are around $10^{15}$ GeV, large mixing angles and phases in the neutrino sector lead to flavor-violation and CP-violation in the right-handed down squark and left-handed slepton sectors. Since the observed Higgs boson mass and the proton decay constraints indicate sfermions have masses larger than a few TeV, flavor and CP constraints are less restrictive. We explore the constraints on models with a universal soft-supersymmetry breaking input parameters coming from proton stability, electric dipole moments, $\mu\to e\gamma$ decays, and the Higgs mass observed at the LHC. We propose a new model of single-field D-term inflation in supergravity, where the inflation is driven by a single modulus field which transforms non-linearly under the U(1) gauge symmetry. One of the notable features of our modulus D-term inflation scenario is that the global U(1) remains unbroken in the vacuum and hence our model is not plagued by the cosmic string problem which can exclude most of the conventional D-term inflation models proposed so far due to the CMB observations., Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures

We propose a new model of the D-term hybrid inflation in the framework of supergravity. Although our model introduces, analogously to the conventional D-term inflation, the inflaton and a pair of scalar fields charged under a $U(1)$ gauge symmetry, we study the logarithmic and exponential dependence on the inflaton field, respectively, for the K\"ahler and superpotential. This results in a characteristic one-loop scalar potential consisting of linear and exponential terms, which realizes the small-field inflation dominated by the Fayet-Iliopoulos term. With the reasonable values for the coupling coefficients and, in particular, with the $U(1)$ gauge coupling constant comparable to that of the Standard Model, our D-term inflation model can solve the notorious problems in the conventional D-term inflation, namely, the CMB constraints on the spectral index and the generation of cosmic strings., Comment: 16 pages, 14 figures

We study a scenario where sterile neutrino (either warm or cold) dark matter (DM) is produced through (nonresonant) oscillations among right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) and can constitute the whole DM in the Universe, in contrast to the conventional sterile neutrino production through its mixing with the left-handed neutrinos. Many extensions of Standard Model (SM) include a dark sector which can interact with the SM sector via a light mediator. We explore the possibilities to probe such a dark sector by studying the distortion of the CMB spectrum from the blackbody shape due to the elastic scatterings between the dark matter and baryons through a hidden light mediator. We study the kinetic decoupling of light (lesssim 10 GeV) magnetic dipole dark matter (DM). We find that present bounds from collider, direct DM searches, and structure formation allow magnetic dipole DM to remain in thermal equilibrium with the early universe plasma until as late as the electron-positron annihilation epoch. We propose a new constraint on millicharged dark matter from considerations on galaxy clusters. The charged dark matter moves under the influence of the randomly oriented magnetic fields in galaxy clusters, and the corresponding dark matter density profile can significantly differ from the concordance CDM predictions which are well supported from the galaxy cluster observations. With a typical amplitude of magnetic fields $B=\mathcal O(1)\,\mu$G and dark matter velocity $v=\mathcal O(100)\,$km/sec at a cluster radius $R\simeq 1\,$Mpc, we claim that the charge $\epsilon e$ ($e$ is the elementary charge) of dark matter with mass $m$ should be bounded as $\epsilon \lesssim 10^{-14}(m/{\rm GeV})$ which is substantially tighter than the other previous constraints., Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure

We study the inflation scenarios, in the framework of superstring theory, where the inflaton is an axion producing the adiabatic curvature perturbations while there exists another light axion producing the isocurvature perturbations. We discuss how the non-trivial couplings among string axions can generically arise, and calculate the consequent cross-correlations between the adiabatic and isocurvature modes through concrete examples. The next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model predicts the formation of domain walls due to the spontaneous breaking of the discrete $Z_3$-symmetry at the electroweak phase transition, and they collapse before the epoch of big bang nucleosynthesis if there exists a small bias term in the potential which explicitly breaks the discrete symmetry. Signatures of gravitational waves produced from these unstable domain walls are estimated and their parameter dependence is investigated. We explore the possible cosmological consequence of the gravitational coupling between the inflaton and axion-like fields. We demonstrate that elastic scattering between dark matter (DM) and baryons can affect the thermal evolution of the intergalactic medium at early epochs and discuss the observational consequences. We show that, due to the interaction between DM and baryons, the baryon temperature is cooled after decoupling from the CMB temperature. We illustrate our findings by calculating the 21 cm power spectrum in coexistence with a velocity-dependent DM elastic scattering cross section. For instance, for a DM mass of 10 GeV, the 21 cm brightness temperature angular power spectrum can be suppressed by a factor 2 within the currently allowed DM-baryon cross section bounded by the CMB and large-scale structure data. This scale-independent suppression of the angular power spectrum can be even larger for a smaller DM mass with a common cross section (for instance, as large as a factor 10 for $m_d\sim 1$ GeV), and such an effect would be of great interest for probing the nature of DM in view of forthcoming cosmological surveys., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures

To illustrate the complementarity of the linear collider and astrophysics bounds on the light (MeV-scale mass) dark matter (DM), we study the constraints on the magnetic dipole DM from the DM-electron interactions at the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC) and in supernova (SN) 1987A. We in particular focus on the $e^+ e^-$ annihilation which is the common process for producing DM pairs both at the ILC and in the SN. We estimate the bounds on the DM magnetic dipole moment from the mono-photon signals at the ILC and also from the energy loss rate due to the freely streaming DM produced in the SN. The SN bounds can be more stringent than those from the ILC by as much as a factor ${\cal O}(10^5)$ for a DM mass below $10^2$ MeV. For larger DM masses, on the other hand, SN rapidly loses its sensitivity and the collider constraints can complement the SN constraints., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure

Despite the ever growing observational evidence for the existence of the large scale magnetic fields, their origin and the evolution are not fully understood. If the magnetic fields are of primordial origin, they result in the generation of the secondary matter density perturbations and the previous studies show that such density perturbations enhance the number of dark matter halos. We extend the conventional spherical collapse model by including the Lorentz force which has not been implemented in the previous analysis to study the evolution of density perturbations produced by primordial magnetic fields. The critical over-density $\delta_{\rm c}$ characterizing the halo mass function turns out to be a bigger value, $\delta_{\rm c}\simeq 1.78$, than the conventional one $\delta_{\rm c}\simeq 1.69$ for the perturbations evolved only by the gravitational force. The difference in $\delta_{\rm c}$ between our model and the fully matter dominated cosmological model is small at a low redshift and, hence, only the high mass tail of the mass function is affected by the magnetic fields. At a high redshift, on the other hand, the difference in $\delta_{\rm c}$ becomes large enough to suppress the halo abundance over a wide range of mass scales. There can arise ubiquitous ultra-light scalar fields in the Universe, such as the pseudo-Goldstone bosons from the spontaneous breaking of an approximate symmetry, which can make a partial contribution to the dark matter and affect the large scale structure of the Universe. While the properties of those ultra-light dark matter are heavily model dependent and can vary in a wide range, we develop a model-independent analysis to forecast the constraints on their mass and abundance using futuristic but realistic 21 cm observables as well as CMB fluctuations, including CMB lensing measurements. We investigate the effects of a magnetic dipole moment of asymmetric dark matter (DM) in the evolution of the Sun. The dipole interaction can lead to a sizable DM scattering cross section even for light DM, and the asymmetric dark matter can lead to a large DM number density in the Sun. We investigate how much the constraints on the neutrino properties can be improved by combining the CMB, the photometric and spectroscopic galaxy redshift surveys which include the CMB lensing, galaxy lensing tomography, galaxy clustering and redshift space distortion observables. We pay a particular attention to the constraint on the neutrino mass in view of the forthcoming redshift surveys such as the Euclid satellite and the LSST survey along with the Planck CMB lensing measurements. Combining the transverse mode information from the angular power spectrum and the longitudinal mode information from the spectroscopic survey with the redshift space distortion measurements can determine the total neutrino mass with the projected error of O(0.02)eV. Our analysis fixes the mass splittings among the neutrino species to be consistent with the neutrino oscillation data, and we accordingly study the sensitivity of our parameter estimations on the minimal neutrino mass. The kinetic decoupling of dark matter (DM) from the primordial plasma sets the size of the first and smallest dark matter halos. Studies of the DM kinetic decoupling have hitherto mostly neglected interactions between the DM and the quarks in the plasma. Here we illustrate their importance using two frameworks: a version of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and an effective field theory with effective DM-quark interaction operators. We present the analytical formulas, derived based on the halo model, to compute the cross-correlation between the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect and the distribution of galaxy clusters. By binning the clusters according to their redshifts and masses, this cross-correlation, the so-called stacked SZ signal, reveals the average SZ profile around the clusters. The stacked SZ signal is obtainable from a joint analysis of an arcminute-resolution cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiment and an overlapping optical survey, which allows for detection of the SZ signals for clusters whose masses are below the individual cluster detection threshold. We derive the error covariance matrix for measuring the stacked SZ signal, and then forecast for its detection from ongoing and forthcoming combined CMB-optical surveys. We find that, over a wide range of mass and redshift, the stacked SZ signal can be detected with a significant signal to noise ratio (total S/N \gsim 10), whose value peaks for the clusters with intermediate masses and redshifts. In recent years it has been learned that scalar superpartner masses and trilinear couplings should both generically be larger than about 20 TeV at the short distance string scale if our world is described by a compactified string or M-theory with supersymmetry breaking and stabilized moduli. Here we study implications of this, somewhat generally and also in detail for a particular realization (compactification of M-theory on a G_2 manifold) where there is significant knowledge of the superpotential and gauge kinetic function, and a light gluino. In a certain sense this yields an ultraviolet completion of minimal flavour violation. Flavour violation stems from off-diagonal and non-universal diagonal elements of scalar mass matrices and trilinear couplings, and from renormalization group running. We also examine stability bounds on the scalar potential.
