Background/purpose: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease with unknown mechanisms of pathogenesis. Keratin 17 (KRT17) is a protein that regulates numerous cellular processes. This study aimed to explore the expression of KRT17 in OLP and its correlation with the severity of OLP. Materials and methods: RNA sequencing using epithelium from 5 OLP patients and 5 health control (HC) was performed, followed by functional analysis. The validation cohort of 20 OLP and 20 HC tissues were used to investigate positive area value of KRT17 by immunohistochemical analysis. Reticular, erosive and ulcerative (REU) scores were used for measuring the severity of OLP. Results: A total of 15493 genes were detected, of which 1492 genes were significantly up-regulated in OLP and 622 were down-regulated. The mRNA expression of KRT17 was elevated by 13.09-fold in OLP compared to that in HC. Pathway analysis demonstrated high KRT17 expression was associated with multiple biological processes. Abstract The correlation between lower psoas mass and the prognosis of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) is still unclear. This study aims to investigate the impact of lower psoas mass on the prognosis of patients undergoing percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). One hundred and sixty-three elderly patients who underwent single-segment PVP from January 2018 to December 2021 were included. The psoas to L4 vertebral index (PLVI) via MRI were measured to assess psoas mass. Patients were divided into high PLVI (> 0.79) and low PLVI (≤ 0.79) groups based on the median PLVI in the cohort. The basic information (age, gender, body mass index (BMI) and bone mineral density (BMD)), surgical intervention-related elements (duration of operation, latency to ambulation, period of hospital stay, and surgical site), postoperative clinical outcomes (Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores), and incidence of secondary fractures) were compared. Abstract Numerous policies have been implemented to advance the growth of renewable energy. Nonetheless, certain policies have not yielded the anticipated impact on the progression of renewable energy development. In order to maximize the promotion effect of renewable energy policies, this study proposes a capacity allocation optimization method of wind power generation, solar power and energy storage in power grid planning under different policy objectives. First, based on the policy quantification, grey relation analysis (GRA) is used to calculate the correlation degree of the policy indicators on the planning capacity of renewable energy. Further, a multi‐objective capacity estimation model for wind, solar and energy storage is comprehensively presented. Some highly correlated policy indicators are transformed into the special constraints. And the economy and the stability of the power grid are integrated as the objective function. Meanwhile, the carbon trading and punishment for wind power and solar power abandonment are considered. Finally, the proposed model is solved by NSGA‐II‐PSO (particle swarm optimization) algorithm. The novelty of the algorithm is that the crossover operation of NSGA‐II is replaced by the position updating of particle swarm. The calculation result of the case study can effectively evaluate the optimal planning capacity of renewable energy under different policies, while ensuring the economic and the stability of the power system. The study can provide the reasonable basis and the valid analytical method for the policy formulation and the renewable energy development.

Abstract Humic substances (HSs), as the “black gold” of global agriculture, have a crucial environmental significance in cleaning harmful compounds, maintaining carbon mass balance, and increasing crop productivity. Unfortunately, the resources of HSs extracted from nature are insufficient, causing the supply, demand, and budget of the humus market to gradually increase. Given the analogous architectures of lignin and HSs, artificially regulated humification (ARH) has a great potential for directionally controlling the oxidative cleavage of lignin and/or the radical copolymerization of lignin precursors, to produce reassembled oligomers and/or polymers that can compare favorably with the function and efficacy of HSs. Herein, different ARH strategies are innovatively proposed to tackle hazardous chemicals and create humic-like biostimulators (H-LBs). We briefly describe the characteristics and functionalities of natural HSs, and summarize the latest approaches and mechanisms of lignin and its precursor-based ARH. In particular, the ARH routes of bio-composting, laccase catalysis, white-rot fungal degradation, Fenton-based advanced oxidation, and hydrothermal humification are comparatively highlighted to govern harmful substrates, enhance carbon sequestration, generate H-LBs, and practice sustainable agriculture. Furthermore, the mechanisms for promoting crop growth of H-LBs are also illustrated. Advances in modulating humification pathways may solve the technological bottlenecks of ARH in-situ and ex-situ by well-stocked lignin and its small derivatives, which are important for decontaminating contaminants, reducing CO2 emissions, and enriching H-LBs in agroecosystems.

Abstract The crimping technique is widely used in the manufacturing process of large-diameter longitudinal welded pipe. In the bending process, the springback is the critical problem affecting the shape, which is the key index of forming quality. So, crimping faces more challenges in accurate springback prediction for difficult-to-form metals such as pipeline steels and non-circular nature of the punch. This paper has established an analytical model of crimping springback for the longitudinal welded pipe. Firstly, the crimping process mathematical model which considered the impact of elastic modulus attenuation on springback calculation during plastic deformation is established, and the cross-section bending moment is calculated based on Hill’s bending theory. Secondly, a semi-analytical and semi-numerical method for calculating the crimping shape is presented. Finally, the comparison of the crimping shape of the real product shows that the calculation accuracy and efficiency of this method can meet the requirements of engineering applications. The relative error of the springback angle calculated by the analytical model is −5.84%, and the absolute error is 0.3°. This method can accurately predict the springback of longitudinal welded pipe after crimping and provide a reference for crimping process optimization.

Abstract Aims Risk assessment for triple-vessel disease (TVD) remain challenging. Stress hyperglycemia represents the regulation of glucose metabolism in response to stress, and stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) is recently found to reflect true acute hyperglycemic status. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of SHR and its role in risk stratification in TVD patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods A total of 3812 TVD patients with ACS with available baseline SHR measurement were enrolled from two independent centers. The endpoint was cardiovascular mortality. Cox regression was used to evaluate the association between SHR and cardiovascular mortality. The SYNTAX (Synergy Between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention With Taxus and Cardiac Surgery) II (SSII) was used as the reference model in the model improvement analysis. Results During a median follow-up of 5.1 years, 219 (5.8%) TVD patients with ACS suffered cardiovascular mortality. TVD patients with ACS with high SHR had an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality after robust adjustment for confounding (high vs. median SHR: adjusted hazard ratio 1.809, 95% confidence interval 1.160–2.822, P = 0.009), which was fitted as a J-shaped pattern. The prognostic value of the SHR was found exclusively among patients with diabetes instead of those without diabetes. Moreover, addition of SHR improved the reclassification abilities of the SSII model for predicting cardiovascular mortality in TVD patients with ACS. Conclusions The high level of SHR is associated with the long-term risk of cardiovascular mortality in TVD patients with ACS, and is confirmed to have incremental prediction value beyond standard SSII. Assessment of SHR may help to improve the risk stratification strategy in TVD patients who are under acute stress.

Abstract The goal of blind image super-resolution (BISR) is to recover the corresponding high-resolution image from a given low-resolution image with unknown degradation. Prior related research has primarily focused effectively on utilizing the kernel as prior knowledge to recover the high-frequency components of image. However, they overlooked the function of structural prior information within the same image, which resulted in unsatisfactory recovery performance for textures with strong self-similarity. To address this issue, we propose a two stage blind super-resolution network that is based on kernel estimation strategy and is capable of integrating structural texture as prior knowledge. In the first stage, we utilize a dynamic kernel estimator to achieve degradation presentation embedding. Then, we propose a triple path attention groups consists of triple path attention blocks and a global feature fusion block to extract structural prior information to assist the recovery of details within images. The quantitative and qualitative results on standard benchmarks with various degradation settings, including Gaussian8 and DIV2KRK, validate that our proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of fidelity and recovery of clear details. Abstract Correcting interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) interferograms using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data can effectively improve their accuracy. However, most of the existing correction methods utilize the difference between GNSS and InSAR data for surface fitting; these methods can effectively correct overall long-wavelength errors, but they are insufficient for multiple medium-wavelength errors in localized areas. Based on this, we propose a method for correcting InSAR interferograms using GNSS data and the K-means spatial clustering algorithm, which is capable of obtaining correction information with high accuracy, thus improving the overall and localized area error correction effects and contributing to obtaining high-precision InSAR deformation time series. In an application involving the Central Valley of Southern California (CVSC), the experimental results show that the proposed correction method can effectively compensate for the deficiency of surface fitting in capturing error details and suppress the effect of low-quality interferograms. At the nine GNSS validation sites that are not included in the modeling process, the errors in the ascending track 137A and descending track 144D are mostly less than 15 mm, and the average root mean square error values are 11.8 mm and 8.0 mm, respectively. Overall, the correction method not only realizes effective interferogram error correction, but also has the advantages of high accuracy, high efficiency, ease of promotion, and can effectively address large-scale and high-precision deformation monitoring scenarios. Abstract Gastric cancer (GC) contains subpopulations of cancer stem cells (CSCs), which are described as the main contributors in tumor initiation and metastasis. It is necessary to clarify the molecular mechanism underlying CSCs phenotype and develop novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets for gastric cancer. Here, we show that POLQ positively regulates stem cell-like characteristics of gastric cancer cells, knockdown of POLQ suppressed the stemness of GC cells in vitro and in vivo. Further mechanistic studies revealed that POLQ knockdown could downregulate the expression of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH). DHODH overexpression rescued the reduced stemness resulted by POLQ knockdown. Furthermore, we found that POLQ expression correlated with resistance to ferroptosis, and POLQ inhibition renders gastric cancer cells more vulnerable to ferroptosis. Further investigation revealed that POLQ regulated DHODH expression via the transcription factors E2F4, thereby regulating ferroptosis resistance and stemness of gastric cancer cells. Given the importance of POLQ in stemness and ferroptosis resistance of GC, we further evaluated the therapeutic potential of POLQ inhibitor novobiocin, the results show that novobiocin attenuates the stemness of GC cells and increased ferroptosis sensitivity. Moreover, the combination of POLQ inhibitor and ferroptosis inducer synergistically suppressed MGC-803 xenograft tumor growth and diminished metastasis. Our results identify a POLQ-mediated stemness and ferroptosis defense mechanism and provide a new therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer.

Abstract Surfactin is a cyclic hexalipopeptide compound, nonribosomal synthesized by representatives of the Bacillus subtilis species complex which includes B. subtilis group and its closely related species, such as B. subtilis subsp subtilis, B. subtilis subsp spizizenii, B. subtilis subsp inaquosorum, B. atrophaeus, B. amyloliquefaciens, B. velezensis (Steinke mSystems 6: e00057, 2021) It functions as a biosurfactant and signaling molecule and has antibacterial, antiviral, antitumor, and plant disease resistance properties. The Bacillus lipopeptides play an important role in agriculture, oil recovery, cosmetics, food processing and pharmaceuticals, but the natural yield of surfactin synthesized by Bacillus is low. This paper reviews the regulatory pathways and mechanisms that affect surfactin synthesis and release, highlighting the regulatory genes involved in the transcription of the srfAA-AD operon. The several ways to enhance surfactin production, such as governing expression of the genes involved in synthesis and regulation of surfactin synthesis and transport, removal of competitive pathways, optimization of media, and fermentation conditions were commented. This review will provide a theoretical platform for the systematic genetic modification of high-yielding strains of surfactin. Graphical Abstract

Encouraging and astonishing developments have recently been achieved in image-based diagnostic technology. Modern medical care and imaging technology are becoming increasingly inseparable. However, the current diagnosis pattern of signal to image to knowledge inevitably leads to information distortion and noise introduction in the procedure of image reconstruction (from signal to image). Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that can mine knowledge from vast amounts of data offer opportunities to disrupt established workflows. In this prospective study, for the first time, we develop an AI-based signal-to-knowledge diagnostic scheme for lung nodule classification directly from the computed tomography (CT) raw data (the signal). We find that the raw data achieves almost comparable performance with CT, indicating that it is possible to diagnose diseases without reconstructing images. Moreover, the incorporation of raw data through three common convolutional network structures greatly improves the performance of the CT models in all cohorts (with a gain ranging from 0.01 to 0.12), demonstrating that raw data contains diagnostic information that CT does not possess. Our results break new ground and demonstrate the potential for direct signal-to-knowledge domain analysis.

Aims: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic pathema of human joints. The pathogenesis is complex, involving physiological and mechanical factors. In previous studies, we found that ferroptosis is intimately related to OA, while the role of Sat1 in chondrocyte ferroptosis and OA, as well as the underlying mechanism, remains unclear. Methods: In this study, interleukin-1β (IL-1β) was used to simulate inflammation and Erastin was used to simulate ferroptosis in vitro. We used small interfering RNA (siRNA) to knock down the spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase 1 (Sat1) and arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase (Alox15), and examined damage-associated events including inflammation, ferroptosis, and oxidative stress of chondrocytes. In addition, a destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) mouse model of OA induced by surgery was established to investigate the role of Sat1 inhibition in OA progression. Results: The results showed that inhibition of Sat1 expression can reduce inflammation, ferroptosis changes, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, and lipid-ROS accumulation induced by IL-1β and Erastin. Knockdown of Sat1 promotes nuclear factor-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signalling. Additionally, knockdown Alox15 can alleviate the inflammation-related protein expression induced by IL-1β and ferroptosis-related protein expression induced by Erastin. Furthermore, knockdown Nrf2 can reverse these protein expression alterations. Finally, intra-articular injection of diminazene aceturate (DA), an inhibitor of Sat1, enhanced type II collagen (collagen II) and increased Sat1 and Alox15 expression. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that inhibition of Sat1 could alleviate chondrocyte ferroptosis and inflammation by downregulating Alox15 activating the Nrf2 system, and delaying the progression of OA. Abstract Human with bi-allelic WNT10A mutations and epithelial Wnt10a knockout mice present enlarged pulp chamber and apical displacement of the root furcation of multi-rooted teeth, known as taurodontism; thus, indicating the critical role of Wnt10a in tooth root morphogenesis. However, the endogenous mechanism by which epithelial Wnt10a regulates Hertwig’s epithelial root sheath (HERS) cellular behaviors and contributes to root furcation patterning remains unclear. In this study, we found that HERS in the presumptive root furcating region failed to elongate at an appropriate horizontal level in K14-Cre;Wnt10a fl/fl mice from post-natal day 0.5 (PN0.5) to PN4.5. EdU assays and immunofluorescent staining of cyclin D1 revealed significantly decreased proliferation activity of inner enamel epithelial (IEE) cells of HERS in K14-Cre;Wnt10a fl/fl mice at PN2.5 and PN3.5. Immunofluorescent staining of E-Cadherin and acetyl-α-Tubulin demonstrated that the IEE cells of HERS tended to divide perpendicularly to the horizontal plane, which impaired the horizontal extension of HERS in the presumptive root furcating region of K14-Cre;Wnt10a fl/fl mice. RNA-seq and immunofluorescence showed that the expressions of Jag1 and Notch2 were downregulated in IEE cells of HERS in K14-Cre;Wnt10a fl/fl mice. Furthermore, after activation of Notch signaling in K14-Cre;Wnt10a fl/fl molars by Notch2 adenovirus and kidney capsule grafts, the root furcation defect was partially rescued. Taken together, our study demonstrates that an epithelial Wnt10a-Notch signaling axis is crucial for modulating HERS cell proper proliferation and horizontal-oriented division during tooth root furcation morphogenesis.

Abstract Background Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the joint. As the disease progresses, patients will gradually develop symptoms such as pain, physical limitations and even disability. The risk factors for OA include genetics, gender, trauma, obesity, and age. Unfortunately, due to limited understanding of its pathological mechanism, there are currently no effective drugs or treatments to suspend the progression of osteoarthritis. In recent years, some studies found that low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) may have a positive effect on osteoarthritis. Nonetheless, the exact mechanism by which LIPUS affects osteoarthritis remains unknown. It is valuable to explore the specific mechanism of LIPUS in the treatment of OA. Methods In this study, we validated the potential therapeutic effect of LIPUS on osteoarthritis by regulating the YAP–RIPK1–NF-κB axis at both cellular and animal levels. To verify the effect of YAP on OA, the expression of YAP was knocked down or overexpressed by siRNA and plasmid in chondrocytes and adeno-associated virus was injected into the knee joint of rats. The effect of LIPUS was investigated in inflammation chondrocytes induced by IL-1β and in the post-traumatic OA model. Results In this study, we observed that YAP plays an important role in the development of osteoarthritis and knocking down of YAP significantly inhibited the inflammation and alleviated cartilage degeneration. We also demonstrated that the expression of YAP was increased in osteoarthritis chondrocytes and YAP could interact with RIPK1, thereby regulating the NF-κB signal pathway and influencing inflammation. Moreover, we also discovered that LIPUS decreased the expression of YAP by restoring the impaired autophagy capacity and inhibiting the binding between YAP and RIPK1, thereby delaying the progression of osteoarthritis. Animal experiment showed that LIPUS could inhibit cartilage degeneration and alleviate the progression of OA. Conclusions These results showed that LIPUS is effective in inhibiting inflammation and cartilage degeneration and alleviate the progression of OA. As a result, our results provide new insight of mechanism by which LIPUS delays the development of osteoarthritis, offering a novel therapeutic regimen for osteoarthritis.

Abstract Background To evaluate the reliability of the Soft Tissue Tension Cloud Chart (STTCC) technology, an original method combining multi-point Cervical Paravertebral Soft Tissue Test (CPSTT) with MATLAB software, we conducted a preliminary analysis on the immediate effects of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT) on cervical paravertebral soft tissue. Methods 30 patients with Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy (CSR) were included in this study. We analyzed the differences in CPSTT before and after treatment with Cervical Rotation-Traction Manipulation (CRTM), a representative OMT technique in Traditional Chinese Medicine, using the STTCC technology. Abstract Central sarcopenia is associated with the prognosis of various orthopedic surgeries in the elderly. This study aims to investigate its impact on the outcomes of single-segment lumbar fusion surgery in elderly patients. Retrospective analysis was conducted on 314 patients aged 60 to 80 who underwent single-segment posterior lumbar fusion surgery due to degenerative lumbar diseases. Patients were categorized into high psoas and L4 vertebral index (PLVI) and low PLVI groups according to the MRI-measured PLVI for central sarcopenia. Basic patient data, surgery-related parameters, functional assessments at preoperative and postoperative 3, 6, and 12 months, and X-ray-based fusion status were compared. The basic data of the two groups showed no significant differences. Parameters including the operative segment, preoperative hemoglobin levels, surgical duration, and intraoperative blood loss exhibited no significant variances. However, notable differences were observed in postoperative initial hemoglobin levels, transfusion requirements, and length of hospital stay between the two groups. During the postoperative follow-ups at 3, 6, and 12 months, the VAS scores for lower back pain and ODI scores in the lower PLVI group were significantly higher compared to the high PLVI group. Additionally, the EuroQoL 5D scores were notably lower in the low PLVI group. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of leg pain VAS scores at each time point and the fusion status at 12 months postoperatively. MRI-based central sarcopenia has a negative impact on the therapeutic effectiveness following single-segment lumbar fusion surgery in elderly patients.

Abstract Charge density waves are emergent quantum states that spontaneously reduce crystal symmetry, drive metal-insulator transitions, and precede superconductivity. In low-dimensions, distinct quantum states arise, however, thermal fluctuations and external disorder destroy long-range order. Here we stabilize ordered two-dimensional (2D) charge density waves through endotaxial synthesis of confined monolayers of 1T-TaS2. Specifically, an ordered incommensurate charge density wave (oIC-CDW) is realized in 2D with dramatically enhanced amplitude and resistivity. By enhancing CDW order, the hexatic nature of charge density waves becomes observable. Upon heating via in-situ TEM, the CDW continuously melts in a reversible hexatic process wherein topological defects form in the charge density wave. From these results, new regimes of the CDW phase diagram for 1T-TaS2 are derived and consistent with the predicted emergence of vestigial quantum order.

Abstract Photovoltaic (PV) modules are prone to short circuits, open circuits, cracks, which can bring serious harmful effects. It is difficult to establish the corresponding PV fault models to diagnose the status of PV strings. The paper proposes a machine learning‐based stacking classifier (MLSC) for accurate fault diagnosis of PV strings. Specifically, for the operating state of PV modules, the parameter sensitivity algorithm is used to analyze the impact of characteristic factors on the characteristics of PV modules. Then based on the characteristic factors (irradiance, temperature, current, and power), MLSC is proposed to realize the accurate fault diagnosis of PV strings. This structure of MLSC is to integrate all kinds of classifiers by stacking to play the characteristics of each classifier. It combines the characteristics of various types of machine learning algorithms to improve the overall classification effect by using the advantages of each classifier. Finally, experiments reveal that MLSC improves the accuracy of PV fault diagnosis.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a Ubiquitin Proteasome System (UPS)-dysfunction disease. We previously reported that high PRAME transcript levels associated with unfavorable progression free survival (PFS) in patients with no bortezomib therapy, and bortezomib-containing regimen significantly improved PFS in patients with high PRAME transcript levels, which indicated that PRAME expression was prognostic for MM patients, and was related to proteasome inhibitor treatment. However, molecular mechanisms underlying the above clinical performance remain unclear. In the present study, MM cell models with PRAME knockdown and overexpression were established, and PRAME was identified to play the role of promoting proliferation in MM cells. P-Akt signaling was found to be activated as PRAME overexpressed. As a substrate recognizing subunit (SRS) of the E3 ubiquitin ligase, PRAME targets substrate proteins and mediates their degradation. CTMP and p21 were found to be the novel targets of PRAME in the Cul2-dependent substrate recognition process. PRAME interacted with and mediated ubiquitination and degradation of CTMP and p21, which led to accumulation of p-Akt and CCND3 proteins, and thus promoted cell proliferation and increased bortezomib sensitivity in MM cells.

Abstract The proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE), crucial for green hydrogen production, is challenged by the scarcity and high cost of iridium‐based materials. Cobalt oxides, as ideal electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), have not been extensively applied in PEMWE, due to extremely high voltage and poor stability at large current density, caused by complicated structural variations of cobalt compounds during the OER process. Thus, the authors sought to introduce chromium into a cobalt spinel (Co3O4) catalyst to regulate the electronic structure of cobalt, exhibiting a higher oxidation state and increased Co–O covalency with a stable structure. In‐depth operando characterizations and theoretical calculations revealed that the activated Co–O covalency and adaptable redox behavior are crucial for facilitating its OER activity. Both turnover frequency and mass activity of Cr‐doped Co3O4 (CoCr) at 1.67 V (vs RHE) increased by over eight times than those of as‐synthesized Co3O4. The obtained CoCr catalyst achieved 1500 mA cm−2 at 2.17 V and exhibited notable durability over extended operation periods – over 100 h at 500 mA cm−2 and 500 h at 100 mA cm−2, demonstrating promising application in the PEMWE industry.

In order to investigate the shear behavior of coral aggregate reinforced concrete beam (CARCB), the different concrete strength, steel types affect the shear behavior of CARCB was studied, the calculation formula of shear capacity (Vcs) and numerical analysis model of CARCB was proposed. The results show that: All kinds of CARCB have inclined section suitable reinforcement failure, the failure law of CARCB and ordinary aggregate reinforced concrete beam (OARCB) was basically the same. Considering stirrups corrosion and nonlinear mechanical properties characteristic of coral aggregate concrete (CAC), the Vcs calculation formula of CARCB was proposed, and its applicability in C25 ∼ C60 CARCB was verified, its accuracy was 26% and 34% higher than GB50010–2020 and JGJ/T 12–2019, respectively. A numerical analysis model suitable for describing the shear behavior of CARCB was proposed based on K&C (Karagozian & Case) theory, and its applicability in C25 ∼ C60 CARCB was verified, it was found that this model can well describe the whole process of CARCB inclined section failure, and the errors between simulated and measured values of Vcr, Vcs and midspan deflection are 0∼18%. In addition, the Vcs obtained by the numerical model is 3% more accurate than the calculation formula, indicating that the numerical model can effectively distinguish the variation law of shear behavior of CARCB.

ObjectiveNutritional intervention prior to the occurrence of cachexia will significantly improve the survival rate of lung cancer patients. This study aimed to establish an ensemble learning model based on anthropometry and blood indicators without information on body weight loss to identify the risk factors of cachexia for early administration of nutritional support and for preventing the occurrence of cachexia in lung cancer patients.MethodsThis multicenter study included 4,712 lung cancer patients. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method was used to obtain the key indexes. The characteristics excluded weight loss information, and the study data were randomly divided into a training set (70%) and a test set (30%). The training set was used to select the optimal model among 18 models and verify the model performance. A total of 18 machine learning models were evaluated to predict the occurrence of cachexia, and their performance was determined using area under the curve (AUC), accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC).ResultsAmong 4,712 patients, 1,392 (29.5%) patients were diagnosed with cachexia based on the framework of Fearon et al. A 17-variable gradient boosting classifier (GBC) model including body mass index (BMI), feeding situation, tumor stage, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and some gastrointestinal symptoms was selected among the 18 machine learning models. The GBC model showed good performance in predicting cachexia in the training set (AUC = 0.854, accuracy = 0.819, precision = 0.771, recall = 0.574, F1 score = 0.658, MCC = 0.549, and kappa = 0.538). The abovementioned indicator values were also confirmed in the test set (AUC = 0.859, accuracy = 0.818, precision = 0.801, recall = 0.550, F1 score = 0.652, and MCC = 0.552, and kappa = 0.535). The learning curve, decision boundary, precision recall (PR) curve, the receiver operating curve (ROC), the classification report, and the confusion matrix in the test sets demonstrated good performance. The feature importance diagram showed the contribution of each feature to the model.ConclusionsThe GBC model established in this study could facilitate the identification of cancer cachexia in lung cancer patients without weight loss information, which would guide early implementation of nutritional interventions to decrease the occurrence of cachexia and improve the overall survival (OS).

Objective Characterise the relationship between hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) blood levels and the number of missed doses, accounting for dosage, dose timing and the large variability in pharmacokinetics (PK) between patients.Methods We externally validated a published PK model and then conducted dosing simulations. We developed a virtual population of 1000 patients for each dosage across a range of body weights and PK variability. Using the model, 10 Monte Carlo simulations for each patient were conducted to derive predicted whole blood concentrations every hour over 24 hours (240 000 HCQ levels at steady state). Abstract Background To compare the diagnostic performance of Lung-RADS (lung imaging-reporting and data system) 2022 and PNI-GARS (pulmonary node imaging-grading and reporting system). Methods Pulmonary nodules (PNs) were selected at four centers, namely, CQ Center (January 1, 2018-December 31, 2021), HB Center (January 1, 2021–June 30, 2022), SC Center (September 1, 2021–December 31, 2021), and SX Center (January 1, 2021–December 31, 2021). PNs were divided into solid nodules (SNs), partial solid nodules (PSNs) and ground-glass nodules (GGNs), and they were then classified by the Lung-RADS and PNI-GARS. The sensitivity, specificity and agreement rate were compared between the two systems by the χ2 test. Abstract Objective This study aims to explore the prognostic significance of Proline-rich γ-carboxyglutamic acid protein 2 (PRRG2) in Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma (KIRC), a prevalent and deadly cancer, and its association with immune cell infiltration, a key strategy in developing effective biomarkers. Methods The study meticulously elucidated the prognostic significance and potential role of PRRG2 in KIRC, correlating its expression with patient sex, age, metastasis, and pathological stage. Utilizing Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), the involvement of PRRG2 in immune response was investigated. The association between PRRG2 expression and immune cell infiltration was also scrutinized. Ultimately, cellular and tissue identity were confirmed via immunohistochemical staining and quantitative real-time PCR. Results The study elucidates a notable decrease in PRRG2 expression in KIRC patients, correlating with demographic factors, metastasis, and pathological staging, and portending an unfavorable prognosis. Bioinformatic analyses underscore PRRG2’s role in immune response, with its expression significantly tied to immune cell infiltration and marker expression. Conclusion PRRG2 may potentially impact prognosis in KIRC patients by regulating immune infiltration, thus rendering PRRG2 a promising candidate prognostic biomarker for KIRC-associated immune infiltration.

Abstract Background Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a highly specific marker of atherosclerosis. Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) are the therapeutic targets of ezetimibe and statins, respectively, which are important for the progression of atherosclerosis. However, CAC’s genetic susceptibility with above targets is still unknown. We aimed to investigate the association of NPC1L1 and HMGCR gene polymorphisms with CAC in patients with premature triple-vessel disease (PTVD). Methods Four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs11763759, rs4720470, rs2072183, rs2073547) of NPC1L1, and three SNPs (rs12916, rs2303151, rs4629571) of HMGCR were genotyped in 872 PTVD patients. According to the coronary angiography results, patients were divided into low-degree CAC group and high-degree CAC group. Results A total of 872 PTVD patients (mean age, 47.71 ± 6.12; male, 72.8%) were finally included for analysis. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed no significant association between the SNPs of NPC1L1 and HMGCR genes and high-degree CAC in the total population (P > 0.05). Subgroup analysis by gender revealed that the variant genotype (TT/CT) of rs4720470 on NPC1L1 gene was associated with increased risk for high-degree CAC in male patients only (OR = 1.505, 95% CI: 1.008–2.249, P = 0.046) in dominant model, but no significant association was found in female population, other SNPs of NPC1L1 and HMGCR genes (all P > 0.05). Conclusions We reported for the first time that the rs4720470 on NPC1L1 gene was associated with high-degree CAC in male patients with PTVD. In the future, whether therapies related to this target could reduce CAC and cardiovascular events deserves further investigation.

Abstract The characteristics of floor failure and stress changes during the mining process of protective layers are crucial for determining the effectiveness of pressure relief. Three boreholes were designed in the 21104 fully mechanized mining face of Hulusu Coal Mine to implant optical fibers into the floor of the working face. A fiber optic monitoring system was established to monitor the dynamic evolution of stress in the floor rock mass at different mining distances. Based on the information entropy in information theory, the monitoring results in the fiber optic monitoring system are calculated to obtain the stress information entropy at different mining distances. A quantitative dynamic analysis is conducted on the stress change process of the mining floor rock layer, and the stress change law of the protective layer after mining is verified through numerical calculation and similar simulation experiments. The results indicate that the evolution of stress information entropy can be divided into four stages, namely the original rock stress stage, stress concentration stage, stress release stage, and stress recovery stage. The stress information entropy shows a fluctuating upward trend, indicating that coal seam mining leads to a decrease in the orderliness of the overlying rock system and an increase in disorder. In different spatial evolution processes, there are also significant differences in stress information entropy. In the vertical direction, the entropy value of shallow rock layers changes greatly, while the entropy value of deep rock layers changes slightly. Mining leads to a decrease in the orderliness of the entire overlying rock system, an increase in stress information entropy, and a fluctuating upward trend in stress information entropy. The information entropy of overlying rock deformation and re compaction increases, but the degree of change of the former is greater than that of the latter. The Brillouin fiber optic sensing technology provides a new method for monitoring the stress changes in the protective layer mining floor, achieving quantitative analysis of floor rock failure.

Abstract In order to solve the collaborative optimization scheduling of multi‐microgrid under the high penetration rate of new energy, this paper considered the energy interaction between micro‐grids in multi‐microgrid and the relationship between new energy consumption and electricity cost, constructed a collaborative scheduling model considering both micro‐grid load and main grid wind and optical energy storage, proposed objective function based on economic cost, and improved Genetic Algorithm (GA). The elite thought and catastrophe thought are used to optimize the selection operation, and the particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to optimize the mutation operation. Furthermore, three scenarios were selected to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and the improved GA. The results show that the proposed model can ensure the stable operation of the multi‐microgrid system with a high proportion of new energy access and reduce the operation cost. In addition. the improved algorithm solves the problems of easy to fall into local optimum and slow iteration speed, and has better performance in solving the model.

Abstract Objective To account for heterogeneity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and bridge discrepancies between patient- and physician-perceived SLE activity, we developed the Type 1 and 2 SLE model. We examined PROMIS-29 scores, a composite patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure, through the lens of the model. Methods Patients completed PROMIS-29 and the polysymptomatic distress scale (PSD). Rheumatologists completed the SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI), and physician’s global assessments (PGAs) for Type 1 and 2 SLE. We defined Type 1 SLE using SLEDAI, Type 1 PGA, and active nephritis, and Type 2 SLE using PSD and Type 2 PGA. We compared PROMIS-29 T-scores among Type 1 and 2 SLE groups and explored whether PROMIS-29 can predict Type 1 and 2 SLE activity. Results Compared to the general population, patients with isolated Type 1 SLE reported greater pain and physical dysfunction but less depression and improved social functions; patients with high Type 2 SLE (irrespective of Type 1 activity) reported high levels of pain, fatigue, and social and physical limitations. Patients with minimal Type 1 and 2 SLE had less depression and greater physical functioning with other domains similar to national norms. PROMIS-29 predicted Type 2 but not Type 1 SLE activity. Conclusion PROMIS-29 similarities in patients with high Type 2 SLE, with and without active Type 1 SLE, demonstrate the challenges of using PROs to assess SLE inflammation. In conjunction with the Type 1 and 2 SLE model, however, PROMIS-29 identified distinct symptom patterns, suggesting that the model may help clinicians interpret PROs.

Humification plays a significant role in converting phenolic pollutants and forming heterogeneous polymers, but few studies have been performed to investigate exolaccase-started humification (ESH). Herein, the influences of lignin precursors (LPs) on exolaccase-induced bisphenol A (BPA) removal and humification were explored. In particular, the architectural features and botanical effects of the formed humification products were also tested. ESH was extremely beneficial in boosting BPA removal in the presence of LPs. Compared with LP-free (58.49%), 100% of BPA was eliminated after the reaction with ESH for 72 h. Such a process was controlled by an exolaccase-caused random assembly of radicals, which generated a large number of hydrophobic polymers through nonspecific covalent binding of C–C and/or C–O. These humified polymers were extremely stable at pH 2.0–10.0 and −20 °C to 80 °C and displayed unique functions, i.e., scavenged 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl/2,2′-azino-bis3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid radicals and exerted antioxidant capacities. More importantly, the functional polymers could act as auxin analogs to increase the germination index (>100%), plant biomass, and salt tolerance of radish seedlings. Our findings disclosed that ESH could not only be optimized to mitigate the ecological risks of phenolic pollutants and sequester organic carbon in environmental bioremediation, but the resulting abundant auxin analogs also contributed to agricultural productivity.

The holomorphic embedding method (HEM) stands as a mathematical technique renowned for its favorable convergence properties when resolving algebraic systems involving complex variables. The key idea behind the HEM is to convert the task of solving complex algebraic equations into a series expansion involving one or multiple embedded complex variables. This transformation empowers the utilization of complex analysis tools to tackle the original problem effectively. Since the 2010s, the HEM has been applied to steady-state and dynamic problems in power systems and has shown superior convergence and robustness compared to traditional numerical methods. This paper provides a comprehensive review on the diverse applications of the HEM and its variants reported by the literature in the past decade. The paper discusses both the strengths and limitations of these HEMs and provides guidelines for practical applications. It also outlines the challenges and potential directions for future research in this field.

Among various power system disturbances, cascading failures are considered the most serious and extreme threats to grid operations, potentially leading to significant stability issues or even widespread power blackouts. Simulating power systems’ behaviors during cascading failures is of great importance to comprehend how failures originate and propagate, as well as to develop effective preventive and mitigative control strategies. The intricate mechanism of cascading failures, characterized by multi-timescale dynamics, presents exceptional challenges for their simulations. This paper provides a comprehensive review of simulation models for cascading failures, providing a systematic categorization and a comparison of these models. The challenges and potential research directions for the future are also discussed.

Abstract Background Insulin resistance is a pivotal risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, and the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a well-established surrogate of insulin resistance. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of the TyG index and its ability in therapy guidance in patients with three-vessel disease (TVD). Methods A total of 8862 patients with TVD with available baseline TyG index data were included in the study. The endpoint was major adverse cardiac events (MACE). All patients received coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), or medical therapy (MT) alone reasonably. Results An elevated TyG index was defined as the TyG index greater than 9.51. During a median follow-up of 7.5 years, an elevated TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of MACE (adjusted hazard ratio 1.161, 95% confidence interval 1.026–1.314, p = 0.018). The elevated TyG index was shown to have a more pronounced predictive value for MACE in patients with diabetes, but failed to predict MACE among those without diabetes, whether they presented with stable angina pectoris (SAP) or acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Meanwhile, the association between an elevated TyG index and MACE was also found in patients with left main involvement. Notably, CABG conferred a significant survival advantage over PCI in patients with a normal TyG index, but was not observed to be superior to PCI in patients with an elevated TyG index unless the patients had both ACS and diabetes. In addition, the benefit was shown to be similar between MT and revascularisation among patients with SAP and an elevated TyG index. Conclusions The TyG index is a potential indicator for risk stratification and therapeutic decision-making in patients with TVD. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Topological insulators hold promises to realize exotic quantum phenomena in electronic, photonic, and phononic systems. Conventionally, topological indices, such as winding numbers, have been used to predict the number of topologically protected domain-wall states (TPDWSs) in topological insulators, a signature of the topological phenomenon called bulk-edge correspondence. Here, we demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that the number of TPDWSs in a mechanical Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model can be higher than the winding number depending on the strengths of beyond-nearest-neighbor interactions, revealing the breakdown of the winding number prediction. Alternatively, we resort to the Berry connection to accurately characterize the number and spatial features of TPDWSs in SSH systems, further confirmed by the Jackiw-Rebbi theory proving that the multiple TPDWSs correspond to the bulk Dirac cones. Our findings deepen the understanding of complex network dynamics and offer a generalized paradigm for precise TPDWS prediction in potential applications involving localized vibrations, such as drug delivery and quantum computing.

Abstract Background Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a developmental enamel defect affecting the structure of enamel, esthetic appearance, and the tooth masticatory function. Gene mutations are reported to be relevant to AI. However, the mechanism underlying AI caused by different mutations is still unclear. This study aimed to reveal the molecular pathogenesis in AI families with 2 novel pre-mRNA splicing mutations. Methods Two Chinese families with AI were recruited. Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were performed to identify mutations in candidate genes. Minigene splicing assays were performed to analyze the mutation effects on mRNA splicing alteration. Furthermore, three-dimensional structures of mutant proteins were predicted by AlphaFold2 to evaluate the detrimental effect. Results The affected enamel in family 1 was thin, rough, and stained, which was diagnosed as hypoplastic-hypomature AI. Genomic analysis revealed a novel splicing mutation (NM_001142.2: c.570 + 1G > A) in the intron 6 of amelogenin (AMELX) gene in family 1, resulting in a partial intron 6 retention effect. The proband in family 2 exhibited a typical hypoplastic AI, and the splicing mutation (NM_031889.2: c.123 + 4 A > G) in the intron 4 of enamelin (ENAM) gene was observed in the proband and her father. This mutation led to exon 4 skipping. The predicted structures showed that there were obvious differences in the mutation proteins compared with wild type, leading to impaired function of mutant proteins. Conclusions In this study, we identified two new splicing mutations in AMELX and ENAM genes, which cause hypoplastic-hypomature and hypoplastic AI, respectively. These results expand the spectrum of genes causing AI and broaden our understanding of molecular genetic pathology of enamel formation.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Osteoporosis is a bone disease which commonly occurred in postmenopausal women. Almost 10 percent of world population and approximately 30% of women (postmenopausal) suffer from this disease. Alternative medicine has great success in the treatment of osteoporosis disease. Bryodulcosigenin, a potent phytoconstituent, already displayed the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect. In this study, we made effort to analyze the antiosteoporosis effect of bryodulcosigenin against ovariectomy (OVX) induced osteoporosis in rats. Methods: Swiss albino Wistar rats were grouped into fIve groups and given an oral dose of bryodulcosigenin (10, 20 and 30 mg/kg) for eight weeks. Body weight, uterus, bone mineral density, cytokines, hormones parameters, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β, insulin-like growth factor (IGF), osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand (RANKL), and its ratio were estimated. Results: Bryodulcosigenin significantly (p < 0.001) suppressed the body weight and enhanced the uterine weight and significantly (p < 0.001) increased the bone mineral density in whole femur, caput femoris, distal femur and proximal femur. Bryodulcosigenin significantly (P < 0.001) altered the level of biochemical parameters at dose dependent manner, significantly (P < 0.001) improved the level of estrogen and suppressed the level of follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Bryodulcosigenin significantly (P < 0.001) improved the level of OPG and suppressed the level of RANKL. Conclusions: Bryodulcosigenin reduced the cytokines level and suppressed the TGF-β and IGF. We concluded that bryodulcosigenin is an antiosteoporosis medication based on the findings.

Reducing the structural load and operational energy consumption of buildings is a trend in the development of the construction industry, and lightweight concrete has become a research hotspot because of its dual characteristics of low density and high strength. In this paper, a three-step method is used to prepare lightweight concrete composites. In the first step, basalt fiber powder was adhered to polystyrene foam ball expanded polystyrene spheres (EPSs) by the “ball rolling method” to obtain basalt fiber reinforced epoxy composite balls. In the second step, the epoxy resin composite ball and the configured cement matrix are filled into a prefabricated mold. Finally, the lightweight concrete specimens were overlaid, pressed into shape, and cured for 28 days. By changing the volume ratio, size, and wall thickness of the epoxy composite balls, as well as the length and content of basalt fibers, the lightweight concrete was exhibited a reduction in density and increase in strength. The results showed that the smaller the epoxy composite spheres and the larger the wall thickness are, the higher the compressive strength of the material for a certain volume ratio of epoxy composite spheres will be. The addition of appropriate hollow glass beads can reduce the number of pores in the matrix, but excessive hollow glass beads will reduce the bonding force of the concrete matrix. Basalt fibers not only improve the strength of EPSs but also serve to connect matrix–matrix and matrix–epoxy composite spheres.

The performance of lithium-ion batteries may decline at cold temperatures, leading to reduced capacity and electrolyte freezing. To ensure proper operation of energy storage stations in cold regions, heating methods must be designed to maintain batteries at 283.15 K while limiting the temperature difference to less than 5 K. Theoretical analysis and simulation of a battery heating method were conducted using a 22 Ah lithium iron phosphate battery as the research object at 253.15 K. A heating method was designed using Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) aluminum plate heaters. Results showed that under the condition of an ambient temperature of 253.15 K and a discharge rate of 1 C, five 120 W PTCs could increase the peak temperature to 283.46 K at 1000 s. The heating method was further optimized by changing the PTC number (2, 3, and 4) and size (corresponding to 120%, 100%, 80%, and 60% of the lithium-ion battery dimensions), and it was found that by using 3 PTC heating plates with 80% size, the maximum temperature could be increased to 289.85 K and the average temperature difference was 4.82 K at 1000 s, meeting the needs of battery operation. The heating method was shown to be effective in rapidly increasing the battery temperature at lower ambient temperatures (243.15, 253.15, and 263.15 K), increasing the rate of temperature increase by 32.4% at 243.15 vs 253.15 K and 45.2% at 263.15 K.

The human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER) family consists of four members, activated by two families of ligands. They are known for mediating cell–cell interactions in organogenesis, and their deregulation has been associated with various cancers, including breast and esophageal cancers. In particular, aberrant epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and HER2 signaling drive disease progression and result in poorer patient outcomes. Nitric oxide (NO) has been proposed as an alternative activator of the HER family and may play a role in this aberrant activation due to its ability to induce s-nitrosation and phosphorylation of the EGFR. This review discusses the potential impact of NO on HER family activation and downstream signaling, along with its role in the efficacy of therapeutics targeting the family.

BackgroundDNMT3A mutations can be detected in premalignant hematopoietic stem cells and are primarily associated with clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential; however, current evidence does not support assigning them to a distinct European Leukemia Net (ELN) prognostic risk stratification. CD7 is a lymphoid antigen expressed on blasts in approximately 30% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and its role in AML remains unclear and depends on subgroup evaluation. This study investigated the prognostic value of DNMT3A mutation combined with CD7 expression in AML.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 297 newly diagnosed non-M3 AML patients. According to the DNMT3A mutation and CD7 expression in AML cells, patients were divided into the DNMT3A-mutated/CD7-positive (CD7+), DNMT3A-mutated/CD7-negative (CD7-), DNMT3A-wild-type/CD7+, and DNMT3A-wild-type/CD7- groups.ResultsThe DNMT3A-mutated/CD7+ group had lower complete remission rates and higher relapse rates. Importantly, these patients had significantly shorter overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS). Furthermore, multivariate analysis showed that CD7+ with DNMT3A mutation was an independent risk factor for OS and RFS.ConclusionCD7+ with DNMT3A mutation predicts a poor prognosis in AML patients, and the immunophenotype combined with molecular genetic markers can help to further refine the current risk stratification of AML.

Global-scale crop contamination with environmental estrogens has posed a huge risk to agri-food safety and human health. Laccase is regarded as an unexceptionable biocatalyst for regulating pollution and expediting humification, but the knowledge of estrogen bioremediation and C storage strengthened by laccase-driven rhizosphere humification (LDRH) remains largely unknown. Herein, a greenhouse microcosm was performed to explore the migration and fate of 17β-estradiol (E2) in water-wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) matrices by LDRH. Compared to the non-added laccase, the pseudo-first-order decay rate constants of E2 in the rhizosphere solution after 10 and 50 μM exposures by LDRH increased from 0.03 and 0.02 h−1 to 0.36 and 0.09 h−1, respectively. Furthermore, LDRH conferred higher yield, polymerizability, O-containing groups, and functional-C signals in the humified precipitates, because it accelerated the formation of highly complex precipitates by radical-controlled continuous polymerization. In particular, not only did LDRH mitigate the phytotoxicity of E2, but it also diminished the metabolic load of E2 in wheat tissues. This was attributed to the rapid attenuation of E2 in the rhizosphere solution during LDRH, which limited E2 uptake and accumulation in each subcellular fraction of the wheat roots and shoots. Although several typical intermediate products such as estrone, estriol, and E2 oligomers were detected in roots, only small-molecule species were found in shoots, evidencing that the polymeric products of E2 were unable to be translocated acropetally due to the vast hydrophobicity and biounavailability. For the first time, our study highlights a novel, eco-friendly, and sustainable candidate for increasing the low-C treatment of organics in rhizosphere microenvironments and alleviating the potential risks of estrogenic contaminants in agroenvironments.

IntroductionIn contemporary agriculture, the substitution of manure for chemical fertilizer based on phosphorus (P) input in vegetable production has led to a significant reduction in P fertilizer application rates, while, the effect of manure substitution rates on soil P transformation and uptake by root remain unclear.MethodsThis research conducts a pot experiment with varying manure substitution rates (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 75% and 100%) based on P nutrient content to elucidate the mechanisms through which manure substitution affects P uptake in pepper.Results and discussionThe result showed that shoot and root biomass of pepper gradually increased as manure substitution rate from 10% to 40%, and then gradually decreased with further increases in the substitution rate. Soil alkaline phosphatase activity and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) colonization gradually increased with manure substitution rates improvement. Specifically, when the substitution rate reached 30%–40%, the alkaline phosphatase activity increased by 24.5%–33.8% compared to the fertilizer treatment. In contrast, phytase activity and the relative expression of phosphate transporter protein genes in the root system was declined after peaking at 30% manure substitution. Additionally, soil available P remained moderate under 30%–40% substitution rate, which was reduced by 8.6%–10.2% compared to that in chemical fertilizer treatment, while microbial biomass P was comparable. In the current study, soil labile P similar to or even higher than that in chemical fertilizer treatment when the substitution rate was ≤40%. Correlation heatmaps demonstrated a significant and positive relationship between soil available P and factors related to labile P and moderately labile P.ConclusionThis finding suggested that substituting 30%–40% of chemical P with manure can effectively enhance root length, AM colonization, soil enzyme activity, soil labile P, and consequently improve P uptake in pepper. These findings provide valuable insights for future organic agricultural practices that prioritize P supply, aiming to standardize organic P management in farmland and achieve high crop yields and maintain soil health.

We have carried out detailed studies on the epitaxy and characterization of dilute Bi-doped GaN nanostructures. A comprehensive investigation of Bi-doped GaN nanowires and quasi-film epitaxial growth conditions has been performed. Scanning electron microscopy studies show that lowering the GaBiN growth temperature causes gradual changes in top c-plane nanowire morphology due to the incremental incorporation of foreign Bi atoms. This trend is further substantiated by the secondary ion mass spectroscopy analysis of a multi-layer Bi-doped GaN quasi-film. However, it is also found that the amount of Bi incorporation into the GaN lattice is relatively independent of the N2 flow rate variation under the growth conditions investigated. Furthermore, room-temperature micro-Raman spectra show that there are additional peaks near 530, 650, and 729 cm−1 wave numbers in the Bi-doped GaN samples, which can primarily be attributed to Bi local vibrational modes, indicative of a small amount of Bi incorporation in the GaN lattice. Moreover, phonon calculations with density functional theory indicate that Bi replacing the N sites is the likely origin of the experimentally measured Raman modes. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements have also been obtained to deduce the electronic interaction between the Bi dopant atom and the GaN nanostructure. Such one-dimensional nanowires permit the synthesis of dislocation-free highly mismatched alloys due to strain relaxation, allowing efficient light absorption and charge carrier extraction that is relevant for solar energy harvesting and artificial photosynthesis.

Anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (AHF), a critical raw material for industries such as aluminum, pharmaceuticals, and petroleum, has traditionally been sourced from fluorite—a non-renewable mineral. The unsustainable reliance on fluorite has catalyzed the search for alternative AHF production methods. A promising substitute is fluorosilicic acid (FSA), a byproduct of the phosphate fertilizer industry previously deemed waste. Transforming fluorosilicic acid into AHF not only yields a valuable resource but also addresses the environmental and economic challenges associated with waste management. The innovative practice of producing AHF from fluorosilicic acid signals a shift towards sustainable chemical production by capitalizing on waste, potentially diminishing reliance on fluorite and reducing the industry’s environmental impact. This review thoroughly dissects the AHF synthesis process from fluorosilicic acid. Despite the acknowledged importance of fluorinated compounds in numerous industrial applications, research on their synthesis from fluorosilicic acid is limited and fragmented. This review seeks to amalgamate this scattered information by closely scrutinizing diverse industrial processing methods. Additionally, it explores the current and future landscape, economic feasibility, and strategies to navigate the obstacles inherent in synthesizing AHF from fluorosilicic acid. It also assesses the environmental impact of these methods, thereby contributing to the dialogue in this emerging field. The primary aim of this manuscript is to foster further research and promote the industrial uptake of this sustainable process. Highlighting the challenges and proposing potential improvements, the review supports the responsible reuse of waste and advocates for advancements in industrial practices.
