Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between nomophobia and fear of missing out with academic performance among nursing students. Method: This cross-sectional research was performed with students in the nursing department of a health sciences faculty in a university in Turkey. The study was completed with 241 participants attending the nursing department. Data were collected with the descriptive survey form, nomophobia questionnaire (NMP-Q), and fear of missing out scale (FoMOs).. Results: The research determined that nursing students had mean NMP-Q (73.82±21.27) and FoMOs (21.36±6.93) points at average levels. The model in the research was significant and the variables of gender and income explained 17% of general point average (GPA). Accordingly, GPA was lower by 2.4 points for men and by 0.9 points for those whose income did not match their expenditure Conclusion: The study identified that NMP-Q and FoMOs points were at moderate levels and these did not have an effect on the academic success level of nursing students. However, considering the seriousness of problems created by increasing technology use and digital problems currently, taking precautionary measures against these problems will be an effective intervention.

Objective To develop and evaluate a theoretical model to explain the relationships between eHealth literacy and perception of health, and perception of pregnancy risk in pregnant women. Method This cross-sectional study was carried out with 238 pregnant women in one of the hospitals in Turkey between March 15, 2021 and May 15, 2021. Data were collected using an Information Form, eHealth Literacy Scale, Perception of Health Scale, and Perception of Pregnancy Risk Questionnaire. Results The mean scores of the pregnant women participating in the study on eHealth literacy and perception of health were 30.45 +/- 6.56 and 51.42 +/- 6.91, respectively and their mean score on perception of pregnancy risk was 42.6 +/- 29.38. The direct effect of the eHealth Literacy Scale on the "Risk for Baby" subscale of the Perception of Pregnancy Risk Questionnaire was insignificant whereas the scale's effect became significant with the Perception of Health Scale (beta = -0.006; 0.057). Conclusion To reduce the perception of risk in pregnant women, it is important to improve not only their eHealth literacy but also their knowledge and attitudes about being healthy.

Cinsiyet hoşnutsuzluğu olan gençler, genellikle belirli psikososyal problemler için risk altındadır ve ayrıca ayrımcılık ve damgalanmaya maruz kalırlar. Bu sorunlar arasında sosyal izolasyon, sosyal geri çekilme, yalnızlık, okulu bırakma, suça eğilim, madde kullanımı, şiddete maruz kalma gibi sorunlar yer almaktadır. Tüm bu sorunların özellikle geleneksel cinsiyet rollerinin korunduğu toplumlarda yaşayan gençlerin kişisel ve sosyal yaşamlarında önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışmada intihar etmek istediğini belirten ve cinsiyet hoşnutsuzluğu nedeniyle homofobik tutumlara maruz kalan 17 yaşındaki erkek bireye bütüncül hemşirelik bakım girişimlerinin sunulması amaçlanmıştır., Young people who are gender dysphoria are often at risk for certain psychosocial problems as well as being victims of discrimination and stigmatization. Such problems include issues such as social isolation, social withdrawal, loneliness, dropping out of school, tendency to crime, substance abuse, and being subject to violence. It is thought that all these problems are especially important in personal and social lives of young people living in societies where traditional gender roles have been conserved. In this study, it was aimed to offer holistic nursing care interventions to a 17-year-old male person who stated that he had wanted to commit suicide and been subject to homophobic attitudes because of the confusion about his gender.

Objective: This qualitative study aimed to conduct an in-depth analysis of the opinions of nurses who did not receive the COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic regarding the issue. Method: This research was designed as a qualitative research in the case study design and based on the guidelines proposed by the COREQ checklist. It was conducted in nurses working in various healthcare institutions and units providing preventive and therapeutic services. In the study, 10 nurses who did not receive the COVID-19 vaccine were interviewed. The data of the study were collected through an introductory information form and a semi-structured interview form by conducting in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed by the content analysis method. Results: In the study, 3 main themes and 8 sub-themes were determined after the thematic analysis. Themes were determined as follows: (1) Excessive skepticism (a. mistrust, b. rumor, c. anxiety), (2) Perceived risk (a. low perceived risk, b. experiences), and (3) Self-others (a. individual freedom, b. inconsistency, c. perception of social benefit). Conclusion: It was found that nurses refused to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, which is an important strategy in the fight against the pandemic, based on various reasons and inferences. Developing a standard recommendation for all nurses in the world on vaccine hesitancy can be difficult. But the strategic efforts to increase confidence in vaccines should focus on the invisible barriers to vaccine hesitancy.

Background: Older adults, the prevalence of chronic diseases increase, depending on the physiological and psychological changes that occur with aging processes of maintenance issues in pandemic seems to be more important. Objectives: This study aims to examine the attitudes of senior nursing students regarding ageism as well as their views of the problems the elderly faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The present study is a mixed study with quantitative and qualitative dimensions and it was conducted in a nursing school in X. The quantitative part of the research was conducted with 75 senior students, 13 of whom were also included in the qualitative part of the study. Quantitative data were collected using the Introductory Information Form and the Ageism Attitude Scale and qualitative data using a semi-structured interview form. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis Mann–Whitney U, and Kruskal–Wallis tests and content analysis were used. Results: It was found that the students’ attitudes toward the elderly were positive and their views of the elderly during the pandemic were distributed among the main themes of Vulnerable, Emotional Shake, Culture, and Iceberg. Conclusion: it is believed that it is important to ensure that health team members who will work with the older adults should be provided with an environment wherein they can provide care to the older adults in the first years of their education.

The study aims to determine the physician-nurse and nurse-nurse collaboration levels of nurses and effective factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 477 nurses from five hospitals using a questionnaire. It was determined that the characteristics of working life explained 10% of the Nurse-Nurse Collaboration Scale and the regression model between variables and the Jefferson Scale of Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration was not statistically significant. Physician-nurse and nurse-nurse collaboration are affected by a variety of factors.

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the non-pharmacological practices used in the elderly and on which symptoms these practices were used.Material and Methods: This research was carried out as a descriptive study. During data collection; theses determined by using keywords “geriatrics”, “music”, “reflexology”, “acupressure”, “massage”, “aromatherapy” “complementary”, “alternative treatments” on the National Thesis Center of the Higher Education Institution database were included in the study. In Turkey, a total of 33 theses on non-pharmacological practices and effects of symptoms in the elderly were reached. The full text of seven theses could not be reached and was excluded. A total of 26 theses were evaluated in the study. Since the full text of the seven theses could not be reached, it was excluded and a total of 26 theses were evaluated.Results: Most of the theses examined in this study were conducted in the field of nursing. 53.8% of the non-pharmacological theses were PhD theses and 46.2% of them were master's theses. It was determined that non-pharmacological practices had positive effects on anxiety, sleep and quality of life, pain, loneliness, fatigue, depression and constipation in the elderly.Conclusion: Non-pharmacological practices applied to the elderly seem to be effective in management of many symptoms. In conclusion, multidisciplinary and randomized controlled trials are recommended to provide more evidence to the field., Amaç: Bu çalışma, yaşlılarda kullanılan farmakolojik olmayan uygulamalar ve bu uygulamaların hangi semptomlar üzerinde kullanıldığını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma tanımlayıcı tipte yapılmıştır. Veri toplama aşamasında; Yükseköğretim Kurulu Ulusal Tez Merkezi Veri Tabanı’na “geriatri”, “müzik”, “refleksoloji”, “akupres”, “masaj”, “aromaterapi” “tamamlayıcı”, “alternatif tedaviler” anahtar kelimeleri yazılarak belirlenen tezler araştırma kapsamına alınmıştır. Türkiye’de yaşlılarda farmakolojik olmayan uygulamalara ve uygulanan semptomların etkisine yönelik toplam 33 teze ulaşılmıştır. Yedi tezin tam metnine ulaşılamadığı için kapsam dışı bırakılmış ve toplam 26 tez değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Bu çalışmada incelenen tezlerin çoğunluğu hemşirelik alanında yürütülmüştür. Farmakolojik olmayan yöntemler ile ilgili tezlerin; %53.8’i doktora, %46.2’si yüksek lisans tezidir. Farmakolojik olmayan uygulamaların yaşlılarda; anksiyete, uyku ve yaşam kalitesi, ağrı, yalnızlık, yorgunluk, depresyon ve konstipasyon üzerine olumlu etkisinin olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Yaşlılara uygulanan farmakolojik olmayan yöntemlerin birçok semptomun yönetiminde etkili olduğu görülmektedir. Sonuç olarak, alana daha fazla kanıt sağlayacak multidisipliner ve randomize kontrollü çalışmaların yapılması önerilmektedir.

Background: The effects of an educational strategy, “demonstration, puzzle, dance, song (DPDS),” on the hand washing skills of primary school students was examined. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental, training research format with a pre- and posttest research design and was conducted by a research team from a university department of public health nursing. The study included 671 (90.2%) of 744 students who attended primary schools in Nevsehir, Turkey. Data were collected with a demographic data collection form and a Hand Washing Skills Evaluation List. McNemar, Friedman, and Wilcoxon tests were used to analyze findings. Results: Immediately after training, all steps of hand washing were performed at higher levels than before training ( p < .01), and the difference between hand washing times was significant ( p < .001). Purpose: To examine the popular dietary habits of nursing students and associated factors. Design and methods: A mixed study with quantitative and qualitative dimensions. Following the evaluation of quantitative data, interviews were conducted with 12 students, and data were analyzed by content analysis. Findings: The two main themes created were my mirror and the mirror of society as a vicious cycle. The reasons for being on a popular diet were determined to be the expectation of rapid weight loss, negative emotions, and body and beauty perception of society. Practice implications: It is concluded that students are in a vicious cycle of popular diets depending on different factors and that professional educator nurses have important duties in breaking this cycle.

Objective:The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of father's support to breastfeeding process on breastfeeding selfefficacy of mothers and attachment of father and infant.Material and Methods:The research is in cross-sectional type. The sample of the study consisted of 400 parents living in different cities in Türkiye (n=400). Online data collection forms that participants could apply themselves were created in the web and delivered to parents by using social media accounts, internet and social media sharing platforms about breastfeeding. Percentage, average, standard deviation, student t, one-way ANOVA (post hoc: Bonferroni), Pearson correlation tests were used for data analysis.Results:It was determined that 35.4% of mothers and 36.9% of fathers participated in the study. In the study, the mean breastfeeding self-efficacy score of the mothers was 55.30±9.28, the mean breastfeeding support score of the fathers was 131.42±28.69, and the mean father-baby attachment score was 75.11±9.41. It is observed that there is a highly positive, weak linear relationship between mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy scores and fathers' understanding of breastfeeding, helping, valuing, readiness, sensitivity sub-dimensions, total score and median attachment scores (pConclusion:In this study, it was determined that fathers' support for breastfeeding positively affected mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy and father-infant attachment. This study investigates smartphone addiction among nursing students, the levels of perceived pain in the upper extremity, and the relationship between them. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 259 nursing students in a Turkish state university, who agreed to participate in the research. Study data were collected online using the introductory questionnaire, smartphone addiction scale-short version (SAS-SV), and numeric rating scale (NRS). The data were evaluated by descriptive statistics and simple linear regression analysis. The SAS-SV score of students included in the study was 25.71 ± 7.49. It was determined that all of the students experienced burning in the ears, pinkie, elbow, shoulder, wrist, eye, hand and neck pain due to telephone use. In the study, it was determined that the SAS-SV scores of the students were found to be higher 7.4 times in those with the highest level of headache; 6.8 times in those with the highest level of ear pain; 8.4 times in those with the highest level of shoulder pain; 8.2 times in those with the highest level of low back pain. The study established that students were experiencing a low level of smartphone addiction; however, various health and social problems associated with phone use and smartphone addiction caused pain in certain extremities. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Our purpose in the present study is to analyze the opinions of women regarding the factors that support and hinder their breastfeeding. This is a phenomenological and qualitative study. The present study included 32 breastfeeding women who live in different provinces in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. The data were collected using a semi-structured interview form and were evaluated using the content analysis method. Three themes and ten sub-themes about women’s experience on breastfeeding their babies and factors affecting their breastfeeding were found. The themes identified were: motherhood, restriction, patriarchy. Objective:The aim of this study was to examine the incidence of food insecurity and affecting factors in households with children in Turkey during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.Methods:This is a cross-sectional study. The participants were recruited by the snowball sampling method, and the data were collected by means of a link sent to their smartphones through their social media accounts. This study included 211 households with at least 1 child.Results:The study revealed that 21.8% households had food insecurity that was not at the hunger threshold. The monthly income of 80.6% of the households was below the poverty line and monthly income decreased in more than half of the households during the pandemic. Food insecurity increased 2.5 times when the households comprised workers or self-employed individuals (odds ratio [OR] = 2.529; P = 0.002), increased 3 times when the monthly income of the households decreased (OR = 3.131; P = 0.000), and increased 2 times when total monthly income of the household fell below poverty line during the pandemic (OR = 2.001; P = 0.049).Conclusions:It is determined that nearly half the households have food insecurity and that the pandemic poses a risk in terms of food security. We recommend that public health studies should be planned to ensure accessibility to healthy foods.

To determine the effects of care and monitoring provided at home to children in whom Enterobius vermicularis is detected and their mothers on the presence of observing the parasite and the knowledge and practices of the children and their mothers on the issue. This study used a pre-test-post-test quasi-experimental design. In the study, 20 students and their mothers were determined as the experimental group, while 18 students and their mothers were determined as the control group. Home visits were made to the families of the children in the experimental group for 6 months. At these home visits, health education on the parasite was provided to the mothers and the children. There were highly significant differences between the experiment and control groups in terms of E. vermicularis presence, knowledge and hygiene practice scores (p < .001).

Amaç: Bu çalışma, COVID-19 pandemi sürecinde hemşirelik öğrencileri tarafından geliştirilen sağlık eğitim materyallerini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.Yöntem: Çalışmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında, Türkiye'deki bir üniversitede okuyan hemşirelik öğrencilerinin 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar döneminde, intörnlük-halk sağlığı hemşireliği ve halk sağlığı hemşireliği dersleri kapsamında hazırladıkları toplam 31 eğitim materyali değerlendirilmiştir. Eğitim materyalleri; genel özellikler ve yaratıcılık özellikleri formları çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın uygulanabilmesi için, kurum izni ve katılımcılardan bireysel online yazılı onam alınmıştır. Bulgular: Eğitim materyallerinin analizi sonucunda materyallerin 16 tanesinin COVID-19 hakkında genel bilgi ve korunma tedbirleri, 3 tanesinin COVID-19 hastasının evde bakımı hakkında olup diğerlerinin ise COVID-19’da uyku hijyeni, beslenme, korku, ev içi hijyen, evde maske yapımı, dünden bugüne salgınlar ve sağlık çalışanları için koruyucu ekipman kullanımı ile ilgili olduğu görülmüştür. Eğitim materyallerinin 13 tanesi afiş, 8 tanesi broşür, 8 tanesi video, 2 tanesi 3D materyal biçiminde; 28’inin sadece görsel, 3’ünün de hem görsel hem işitsel içeriğe sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırmanın sonucunda hemşirelik öğrencilerinin pandemi gibi olağanüstü bir durumda genel olarak materyal hazırlama tekniklerine uygun ve yaratıcı materyaller hazırladıkları görülmüştür. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda; sağlık eğitimi ile ilgili olarak yeni ve farklı yöntemlerin geliştirildiği çalışmaların yapılması önerilir., Objective: This study was performed with the aim of examining health educational materials developed by nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods: Document analysis method, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the study. In the scope of the research, a total of 31 educational materials prepared by nursing students studying at a university in Turkey in the 2019-2020 academic year spring semester were assessed within the scope of internship-public health nursing and public health nursing lessons. Educational materials were examined within the framework of forms about general and creative features of the material. In order to perform the research, institutional permission and individual online written consent of the participants was obtained.Results: As a result of analysis of educational materials, 16 were related to general information and protective precautions about COVID-19, 3 were about home care for COVID-19 patients, while the others were about sleep hygiene, nutrition, fear, domestic hygiene and making masks at home, pandemics from past to present and use of protective equipment for health employees in COVID-19. Among the educational materials, 13 were posters, 8 were brochures, 8 were videos, 2 were in the form of 3-D material, 28 only used visual content and 3 used both visual and audio content.Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was observed that nursing students prepared creative materials with generally suitable material preparation techniques in the extraordinary situation of the pandemic. In line with these results, in this extraordinary period, it is recommended to perform studies developing new and different methods related to health education.

Integrative health practices are extensively used in addition to pharmacologic treatments by elderly individuals who has chronic diseases to relieve or overcome symptoms.This qualitative study was performed on 12 elderly individuals with the aim of determining the reasons for the use of integrative health practices and identifying their thoughts regarding these practices. Face to face interview method was used for data collection. Data were collected with information forms that include informations about elderly individuals and semistuctured interview forms. All interviews with elderly individuals are made with in-depth interview method. The data was evaluated using qualitative content analysis.As a result of in-depth interviews, three main themes and eight sub-themes were identified, with the main themes being the feelings before using integrative health practices, the sources of information, and the experiences after use. The majority of the individuals reported that they used integrative health practices due to feelings of helplessness/hopelessness, depression and fear; that their sources of information were not professional sources; and that, in the end, the majority of them experienced negative emotions. It can hence be recommended that healthcare personnel should carefully evaluate the elderly.In this study; It is determined that elderly individuals were using integrative metods in addition to pharmacologic methods for symptom management. It can hence be recommended that healthcare personnel should carefully evaluate the elderly in geriatric assessment.

Background:Nurses are in a key position for reproduction health service delivery. Therefore, it is thought that it would be important to inspect opinions of student nurses, who will be health employees in the future, about self-induced abortion to develop women health and public health.Objectives:The goal of this study is to inspect opinions of nursing students with different sociocultural specialties, about self-induced abortions.Research design:It is qualitative type and planned with ethnographic research pattern.Participants and research context:The study was conducted with 20 last-term students of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, who were chosen by maximum diversity sampling technique. Interviews were made with semi-structured interview form and voice records during the study; data were analyzed with content analyzing method.Ethical considerations:Permission from the organization, university ethics committee, and personal approvals were taken from participants to conduct the research.Findings:Based on the analysis, two major themes on self-induced abortion in Turkish nursing students were found: dilemma of traditional perspective and professional identity and occupational awareness.Discussion and conclusion:It is seen that there is a dilemma between traditional point of view and professional identities about self-induced abortion for nursing students, but they had occupational awareness. It should be recommended to give information about national and international licit legislations for reproductive health, self-induced abortion, and setting up ethical discussion environments for nursing students.

Objective: Health care needs determined via home visits to individuals >65 years within the scope of public health nursing courses are presented. Materials and Methods: The population in this descriptive study comprised 110 individuals aged ≥65 years who were living in central neighborhoods of Avanos district in the province of Nevsehir and regularly visited during one semester within the scope of the public health nursing course. This was conducted 16 h a week for 12 weeks under the supervision of instructors. Students conducted home visits to designated families at least once a week for 45 min. Descriptive characteristics of elderly individuals, identified problems, and status of students utilizing their roles as a nurse were identified through home visit files. Data were analyzed using number and percentage distributions. Results: Fifty-nine nursing students conducted 601 home visits and provided home nursing services for 110 patients. Totally, 67.3% of the elderly were females and 68.18% were in the 65-74-year age group. The three most common chronic diseases were hypertension (46.6%), diabetes (24.6%), and cardiovascular diseases (13.3%). Moreover, 52.7% of the elderly were using multiple medications and 24.5% did not use their medications regularly. The most common problems identified were lack of information on chronic diseases (26.4%) and inadequate fluid intake (20%). The students stated that they solved problems by utilizing their education, research, care providing and counseling roles as a nurse. Conclusion: Home visits are important for determining health care needs of the elderly and planning services to be offered.

Enterobius vermicularis; dünyada ve ülkemizde ilkokul çağı çocuklarda ilk sıralarda görülen parazitler arasındadır. Bu parazit; yayılmasında sosyoekonomik durum, kişisel hijyen alışkanlıkları, çevre ve alt yapının iyileştirilmesi gibi etkenlerin önemli olması ve önlenebilir olması nedeniyle önemli bir halk sağlığı sorunudur. Ayrıca bu parazitin çocuklar üzerinde; ülser, egzama, karın ağrısı, anemi, uyku sorunları gibi sağlık sorunları ile doğrudan ve akademik başarısızlık, okul devamsızlığı gibi sorunlarla dolaylı etkileri vardır. Bu nedenle birinci basamak sağlık çalışanlarının E.vermicularis kontrolünde toplumun bilinçlendirilmesi ve sağlık eğitimi hizmetlerinin sunulmasına önem vermesi gerekmektedir. Bu derlemede, enterobius vermicuarisin çocuk sağlığı üzerindeki etlileri ve korunma ve tedavisinde de halk sağlığı uygulamalarının sunulması amaçlanmıştır.

This study aims to determine the relationship between smartphone use among intern nursing students, fear of missing out and their care-related behaviour.Today, smartphone use is common and fear of missing out is a prominent issue in our society; this behaviour and issue are linked and may lead to adverse consequences.The study is conducted as a cross-sectional design.The target population in this research consists of senior nursing students (n = 101). There was no sampling selection and the study was completed with 97 students who agreed to participate in the research. Data were collected with introductory questionnaire forms, the Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS), the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOs) and the Caring Assessment Questionnaire (Care-Q). The valid and reliable SAS, FoMOs and Care-Q were transformed into online forms and the link was distributed to the participants via online Google forms.Based on the results of the study, the mean scores were 83.30 ± 2.21 of SAS, 21.56 ± 6.42 for FOMOs and 5.54 ± 0.87 for Care-Q scale. There were statistically significant differences between gender and Care-Q score and between the duration of smartphone use, daily smartphone usage time and SAS score (p 0.05). There was a weak positive relationship between SAS and FoMOs scale scores, along with a weak negative relationship between the accessibility and comfort sub-dimensions of the SAS and Care-Q scale. Also, the SAS score explains 0.4% of the comfort subscale of the Care-Q scale (p 0.05).Further research focusing on nursing students is recommended to identify potential adverse effects created by the use of smartphones and the fear of missing out. In addition, educators are recommended to develop guidelines and prepare new policies for smartphone use to minimise the potential negative effects of smartphone use and fear of missing out on student care behaviour.
