Detection of positive resection margins in surgical procedures of high-risk prostate cancer is key for minimizing the risk of recurrence. This study aimed at evaluating the accuracy of functional tumor-volume segmentation in intraoperative ex vivo PET/CT for margin assessment in prostate cancer patients undergoing radical prostatectomy. Methods: Seven high-risk prostate cancer patients received [ 18 F]PSMA-1007 before radical prostatectomy. After removal of the prostate gland, ex vivo imaging on the AURA 10 PET/CT system was performed, and functional tumor volume was segmented using 4 semiautomatic segmentation methods. Resection margins and volumes were compared with histopathology. Additionally, a supportive phantom study was conducted to assess segmentation accuracy at low radiopharmaceutical activity. Results: Clinically, 18 lesions were analyzed in intraoperative PET/CT. Sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of margin detection were 83%, 100%, 100%, and 92%, respectively, using an iterative thresholding method. In 1 patient, a biochemical recurrence was observed within 1 y of prostate-specific antigen follow-up, and 1 patient underwent adjuvant radiotherapy. The remaining 5 patients were still undergoing prostate-specific antigen follow-up with no evidence of biochemical recurrence. On the basis of a phantom-deduced minimal segmentable activity concentration of approximately 2 kBq/mL, we propose an administered [ 18 F]PSMA-1007 activity of at least 1.9 and 0.4 MBq/kg for preoperative and intraoperative injections, respectively. Conclusion: Intraoperative ex vivo PET/CT is a promising modality for intraoperative margin assessment. Societal change is needed to prevent and reduce the growth in the amount of solid waste entering the sea. Marine debris networks cover a broad range of activities in order to protect our oceans. By following a common vision and a collective systematic approach they are capable of creating synergies between all relevant stakeholders that result in reducing the flow of waste into our oceans. Thus, they are key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. During the 6th International Marine Debris Conference in San Diego in 2018, different marine debris networks from different parts of the world presented their activities, achievements and challenges. This led to network representatives agreeing to collaborate as members of an International Waste Platform. Monoxidine is a new antihypertensive agent that, as pharmacological studies show, reduces blood pressure by stimulating central presynaptic alpha-2-receptors. In this open multicenter trial, 141 ambulatory hypertensives were treated for 12 months with monoxidine. After a run-in placebo period the mean supine blood pressure was 172.7 +/- 15.0/103.2 +/- 6.0 mmHg. After an individual dose-adjustment phase of 3 weeks starting from a daily dose of 0.2 mg monoxidine, the mean blood pressure decreased to 150.7 +/- 13.4/87.5 +/- 5.5 mmHg. In 96 patients, the blood pressure reduction was achieved within 3 weeks at a dose of 0.2 mg, while 52 patients required a dose of 0.4 mg. Over the 12-month treatment period, no tolerance to the drug developed. In 137/141 cases (97%), the drug was well or very well tolerated. At the state of treatment dryness of mouth was observed in 12.9% and lassitude in 4.8%. On discontinuation of monoxidine, blood pressure gradually increased. All in all, monoxidine proved to be well tolerated, reliable and safe in the long-term treatment of hypertension.

In a prospective multicenter study the phenomenon of an anicteric reaction with increasing enzyme activities is tested with the antiarrhythmics prajmalin, propafenone, disopyramide and sparteine and additionally with nitroglycerine. Transaminases, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-GT increased with all five substances up to three times of the normal, concerning one, two or three and in a few cases four parameters. The bilirubin was always normal and no clinic symptoms were registered. Increased enzyme levels were found on the fourth day after exposition, the maximum on the 10th-16th day and normalisation on about the 25th day under continuing the same medication. No relation to age or sex was found. The results are discussed in comparison with the literature.

In the ambulatory of an internal specialist a number of patients suffering from angina pectoris or hypertonia together with arrhythmic troubles received an initial treatment with beta-blockers over a period of 21 days. In cases in which arrhythmia persisted after this initial period the treatment was continued for another 21 days with the addition of Depasan retard in function of a second medicament. This combined treatment in form of an open study was extended to a total number of 50 patients presenting ventricular extrasystolia in 45 cases and in 5 cases absolute arrhythmia in addition to the main disease. Treatment with Depasan retard showed good or satisfactory results in 39 out of 45 patients suffering from ventricular extrasystoles, whilst no effect could be obtained in the 5 cases with absolute arrhythmia. No signs of incompatibility or unwanted interactions were observed in the course of this open study. Based on these results it can be concluded that Depasan retard should be recommended in those cases where on account of persistent arrhythmical troubles and especially extrasystoles, during a treatment with beta-blockers in patients suffering from angina pectoris or hypertonia, and additional treatment with anti-arrhythmical medicaments appears to be indicated.
