A physiological experiment for determining nutrient digestibility with three groups was carried out, each group with 3 male castrated pigs (58.333–58.667 kg live weight). The pigs were positioned in specialized cages for a 6-day preparatory and a 5-day report period. The animals from the separate groups were fed with the same compound feed, with added supplement Carbovet (activated charcoal) to the rations of second and third groups. The dosage was 5 and 10 g per day per animal, respectively. The pigs were fed twice a day – receiving 1.8 kg feed per animal per day. Feaces were collected twice a day. The addition of Carbovet in compound feeds for fattening pigs (5 and 10 g per day per animal) decreased the digestibility coefficients of crude fats with 16.11 (p = 0.080) and 20.05% (p = 0.039); and for phosphorus with 10.43 (p = 0.044) and 6.66% (p = 0.157), respectively. Correlation coefficients and determination coefficients in crude fats and in phosphorus were high and indicate a strong negative connection between Carbovet and the correlation coefficients. The use of exogenous enzymes gives producers a greater opportunity to use different feed components in pig mixtures. In weaned pigs, amylase, protease and lipase activity is limited and changes in the degree of digestibility of added enzymes can improve productivity and reduce the cases of intestinal disorders caused by undigested nutrients. The practice of feeding pigs on farms in Europe is to include a more diverse group of feeds in the mix than in North America, where maize-soy mixtures are mainly used. This implies that the addition of mixtures of cellulases, hemicellulases and proteases, can improve the digestibility of complex carbohydrates and proteins from the more diverse cereals included. However, the use of various enzyme complexes is controversial in this respect. The main reason is the activity and type of enzymes, dosage and route of administration, age of the animals and their level of productivity. The animals were divided into three groups, each having three pigs. The pigs were placed in specialized cages for a 6-day preoperational and a 5-day reporting period. Animals from the individual groups were fed the same compound feed, and Carbovet (activated charcoal) was added to the ration of the second and third groups at a dosage of 5 and 10 g/day per animal, respectively. The pigs were fed twice a day – 1.8 kg of feed/day per animal. Faeces were collected twice a day. The inclusion of Carbovet in compound feeds for fattening pigs at a dose of 5 and 10 mg/day per animal had a positive effect on some hematological and biochemical parameters of the blood, changing them within physiological norms. An experiment with 5 boars from the Danube White breed, raised and fed individually, was conducted in Agricultural Institute - Shumen. The experiment was divided into two sub-periods - a 40-day control period and an experimental period with the same duration. During the control period the animals were fed with combined fodder, containing 16.4% crude protein, 0.80% lysine, 1.3% calcium, 0.68% phosphorus, and during the second sub-period - 15.5% crude protein, 0.85% lysine, 0.63% calcium and 0.45% phosphorus. In the experimental period the boars were fed with the same combined fodder, to which was added 20 g of herbal supplement (nettle and flour from rosehip) per day per boar. From each boar was taken 10 ejaculates during the control period and 11 ejaculates during the experimental period. The following traits were controlled: health condition (daily), volume of ejaculate (ml), density of the semen, which is determined by sperm cell concentration (106/ml), pH, mobility of spermatozoa (%), pathological spermatozoa (%) and survival of spermatozoa (%) after 24, 48, 72 h of storage. The herbs tested do not affect the main quality traits of semen - volume, density and motility, but they do decrease the percentage of agglutination (p = 0.043) and tend to decrease the number of pathological spermatozoa with 14.56%. There is a tendency for lower survival of the 72-nd hour in boars that were given the herbal supplement, which requires additional studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A scientific experiment with twenty fattening pigs from the Danube White breed was conducted in Agricultural Institute - Shumen. The animals were separated into two groups of ten, and were fed and reared in individual boxes. The experiment began with an average live weight of 55.300 kg for the control group and 55.800 kg for the trial group. Throughout the rearing period, the animals received compound feed containing 15.5 g Crude Protein (CP), 0.71 g Lysine, 0.67 g calcium and 0.60 g phosphorus. To the feed of the experimental group were added herbal supplements 20 g/per capita daily with the following composition: 50% rosehip flour, 30% nettle leaves, 10% weeds grass, 5% dandelion, 5% hawthorn. The aim of this experiment was to establish the influence of herbal supplements on the productivity, slaughter qualities, chemical composition and physical properties of m. Longissimus dorsi meat in fattening pigs. In conclusion, we established that the herbal supplement has influenced the fat thickness in the shoulder (30.00 mm and 19.40 mm, P=0.027) and back (17.40 mm and 32.00 mm, P=0.016).
