We propose Texture Edge detection using Patch consensus (TEP) which is a training-free method to detect the boundary of texture. We propose a new simple way to identify the texture edge location, using the consensus of segmented local patch information. While on the boundary, even using local patch information, the distinction between textures are typically not clear, but using neighbor consensus give a clear idea of the boundary. We utilize local patch, and its response against neighboring regions, to emphasize the similarities and the differences across different textures. The step of segmentation of response further emphasizes the edge location, and the neighborhood voting gives consensus and stabilize the edge detection. We analyze texture as a stationary process to give insight into the patch width parameter verses the quality of edge detection. We derive the necessary condition for textures to be distinguished, and analyze the patch width with respect to the scale of textures. Various experiments are presented to validate the proposed model.

Compressed sensing is an image reconstruction technique to achieve high-quality results from limited amount of data. In order to achieve this, it utilizes prior knowledge about the samples that shall be reconstructed. Focusing on image reconstruction in nanotomography, this work proposes enhancements by including additional problem-specific knowledge. In more detail, we propose further classes of algebraic inequalities that are added to the compressed sensing model. The first consists in a valid upper bound on the pixel brightness. It only exploits general information about the projections and is thus applicable to a broad range of reconstruction problems. The second class is applicable whenever the sample material is of roughly homogeneous composition. The model favors a constant density and penalizes deviations from it. The resulting mathematical optimization models are algorithmically tractable and can be solved to global optimality by state-of-the-art available implementations of interior point methods. In order to evaluate the novel models, obtained results are compared to existing image reconstruction methods, tested on simulated and experimental data sets. The experimental data comprise one 360{\deg} electron tomography tilt series of a macroporous zeolite particle and one absorption contrast nano X-ray computed tomography (nano-CT) data set of a copper microlattice structure. The enriched models are optimized quickly and show improved reconstruction quality, outperforming the existing models. The mechanical performance of metallic metamaterials with 3-dimensional solid frames is typically a combination of the geometrical effect ("architecture") and the characteristic size effects of the base material ("microstructure"). In this study, for the first time, the temperature- and rate-dependent mechanical response of copper microlattices has been investigated. The microlattices were fabricated via a localized electrodeposition in liquid (LEL) process which enables high-precision additive manufacturing of metal at the micro-scale. The metal microlattices possess a unique microstructure with micron sized grains that are rich with randomly oriented growth twins and near-ideal nodal connectivity. Importantly, copper microlattices exhibited unique temperature (-150 and 25 degree C) and strain rate (0.001~100 s-1) dependent deformation behavior during in situ micromechanical testing. Systematic compression tests of fully dense copper micropillars, equivalent in diameter and length to the struts of the microlattice at comparable extreme loading conditions, allow us to investigate the intrinsic deformation mechanism of copper. Combined with the post-mortem microstructural analysis, substantial shifts in deformation mechanisms depending on the temperature and strain rate were revealed. On the one hand, at room temperature (25 degree C), dislocation slip based plastic deformation occurs and leads to a localized deformation of the micropillars. On the other hand, at cryogenic temperature (-150 degree C), mechanical twinning occurs and leads to relatively homogeneous deformation of the micropillars. Based on the intrinsic deformation mechanisms of copper, the temperature and strain rate dependent deformation behavior of microlattices could be explained.

The design of balanced ternary digital logic circuits based on memristors and conventional CMOS devices is proposed. First, balanced ternary minimum gate TMIN, maximum gate TMAX and ternary inverters are systematically designed and verified by simulation, and then logic circuits such as ternary encoders, decoders and multiplexers are designed on this basis. Two different schemes are then used to realize the design of functional combinational logic circuits such as a balanced ternary half adder, multiplier, and numerical comparator. Finally, we report a series of comparisons and analyses of the two design schemes, which provide a reference for subsequent research and development of three-valued logic circuits., Comment: 15 pages, 30 figures

How can we apply human feedback into generative model? As answer of this question, in this paper, we show the method applied on denoising problem and domain adaptation using human feedback. Deep generative models have demonstrated impressive results in image denoising. However, current image denoising models often produce inappropriate results when applied to domains different from the ones they were trained on. If there are `Good' and `Bad' result for unseen data, how to raise up quality of `Bad' result. Most methods use an approach based on generalization of model. However, these methods require target image for training or adapting unseen domain. In this paper, to adapting domain, we deal with non-target image for unseen domain, and improve specific failed image. To address this, we propose a method for fine-tuning inappropriate results generated in a different domain by utilizing human feedback. First, we train a generator to denoise images using only the noisy MNIST digit '0' images. The denoising generator trained on the source domain leads to unintended results when applied to target domain images. To achieve domain adaptation, we construct a noise-image denoising generated image data set and train a reward model predict human feedback. Finally, we fine-tune the generator on the different domain using the reward model with auxiliary loss function, aiming to transfer denoising capabilities to target domain. Our approach demonstrates the potential to efficiently fine-tune a generator trained on one domain using human feedback from another domain, thereby enhancing denoising abilities in different domains.

We propose an effective and robust algorithm for identifying partial differential equations (PDEs) with space-time varying coefficients from a single trajectory of noisy observations. Identifying unknown differential equations from noisy observations is a difficult task, and it is even more challenging with space and time varying coefficients in the PDE. The proposed algorithm, GP-IDENT, has three ingredients: (i) we use B-spline bases to express the unknown space and time varying coefficients, (ii) we propose Group Projected Subspace Pursuit (GPSP) to find a sequence of candidate PDEs with various levels of complexity, and (iii) we propose a new criterion for model selection using the Reduction in Residual (RR) to choose an optimal one among the pool of candidates. The new GPSP considers group projected subspaces which is more robust than existing methods in distinguishing correlated group features. We test GP-IDENT on a variety of PDEs and PDE systems, and compare it with the state-of-the-art parametric PDE identification algorithms under different settings to illustrate its outstanding performance. Our experiments show that GP-IDENT is effective in identifying the correct terms from a large dictionary and the model selection scheme is robust to noise.
