The inter-band lags among the optical broad-band continua of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) have been intensively explored over the past decade. However, the nature of the lags remains under debate. Here utilizing two distinct scenarios for AGN variability, i.e., the thermal fluctuation of accretion disk and the reprocessing of both the accretion disk and clouds in the broad line region, we show that, owing to the random nature of AGN variability, the inter-band lags of an individual AGN would vary from one campaign with a finite baseline to another. Specifically, the thermal fluctuation scenario implies larger variations in the lags than the reprocessing scenario. Moreover, the former predicts a positive correlation between the lag and variation amplitude, while the latter does not result in such a correlation. For both scenarios, averaging the lags of an individual AGN measured with repeated and non-overlapping campaigns would give rise to a stable lag, which is larger for a longer baseline and gets saturation for a sufficiently long baseline. However, obtaining the stable lag for an individual AGN is very time-consuming. Alternatively, it can be equivalently inferred by averaging the lags of a sample of AGNs with similar physical properties, thus can be properly compared with predictions of AGN models. In addition, discussed are several new observational tests suggested by our simulations as well as the role of the deep high-cadence surveys of the Wide Field Survey Telescope in enriching our knowledge of the lags., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures. UV/optical variability in quasars is a well-observed phenomenon, yet its primeval origins remain unclear. This study investigates whether the accretion disk turbulence, which is responsible for UV/optical variability, is influenced by the close environment of the accretion by analyzing the correlation between variability and infrared emission for two luminous SDSS quasar samples. The first sample includes light curves from SDSS, Pan-STARRS, and ZTF $g$ band photometry, while the second sample utilizes SDSS Stripe 82 $g$ band light curves. We explore the correlation between the $g$ band excess variance ($\sigma_{rms}$) and the wavelength-dependent infrared covering factor ($L_{\rm IR}(\lambda)/L_{\rm bol}$), controlling for the effects of redshift, luminosity, and black hole mass. An anti-correlation between two variables is observed in both samples, which is strongest at wavelengths of 2-3$\mu$m but gradually weakens towards longer wavelength. This suggests the equatorial dusty torus (which dominates near-infrared emission) plays a significant role in influencing the UV/optical variability, while the cooler polar dust (which contributes significantly to mid-infrared emission) does not. The findings indicate that quasar variability may be connected to the physical conditions within the dusty torus which feeds the accretion, and support the notion that the close environment of the accretion plays an important role in regulating the accretion disk turbulence., Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

Quasars are generally divided into jetted radio-loud and non-jetted radio-quiet ones, but why only 10% quasars are radio loud has been puzzling for decades. Other than jet-induced-phenomena, black hole mass, or Eddington ratio, prominent difference between jetted and non-jetted quasars has scarcely been detected. Here we show a unique distinction between them and the mystery of jet launching could be disclosed by a prominent excess of radio emission in extremely stable quasars (ESQs, i.e., type 1 quasars with extremely weak variability in UV/optical over 10 years). Specifically, we find that $>$ 25% of the ESQs are detected by the FIRST/VLASS radio survey, while only $\sim$ 6-8% of the control sample, matched in redshift, luminosity, and Eddington ratio, are radio-detected. The excess of radio detection in ESQs has a significance of 4.4 $\sigma$ (99.9995%), and dominantly occurs at intermediate radio loudness with R $\sim$ 10 - 60. The radio detection fraction of ESQs also tends to increase in the ESQ samples selected with more stringent thresholds. Our results are in contrast to the common view that RL quasars are likely more variable in UV/optical due to jet contribution. New clues/challenge posed by our findings highlight the importance of extensive follow-up observations to probe the nature of jets in ESQs, and theoretical studies on the link between jet launching and ESQs. A simple prediction of the well-known unification model of active galactic nuclei is that a sample of sources should exhibit an anti-correlation between the solid angle of the dusty torus and of the ionization cone (as the sum of them shall equal 4$\pi$), which however has never been detected. In this work, we analyze the correlation between [OIII] 5007 narrow emission line equivalent width and $L_{\rm IR}(\lambda)/L_{\rm bol}$ for a large sample of luminous quasars. For the first time, we detect a clear intrinsic anti-correlation between them, which immediately verifies the torus/ionization-cone geometry in luminous quasars. More interestingly, the anti-correlation significantly weakens with increasing wavelength from $\sim$ 2 to 12 $\mu$m, and disappears at $\sim$ 12 $\mu$m. Simulations show a cool dust component (in addition to equatorial torus) with its strength positively correlating with the solid angle of the ionization cone is required to explain the observations. This shows that the polar dust seen in nearby active galaxies also exists in luminous quasars, with its contribution to total dust emission increasing with $\lambda$ (from $\sim$ 2 to 12 $\mu$m) and reaching between 39%-62% (model dependent) at rest frame 12 $\mu$m. The relation between X-ray and UV/optical variability in AGNs has been explored in many individual sources, however a large sample study is yet absent. Through matching the XMM-Newton serendipitous X-ray and UV source catalogs with SDSS quasars, we build a sample of 802 epoch-pairs of 525 quasars showing clear variability in logFx-logFuv space. After correcting for the effect of photometric noise, we find 35.6\pm2.1% of the epoch-pairs show asynchronous variability between X-ray and UV (brightening in one band but dimming in the other). This indicates only in 28.8\pm4.2% of the epoch-pairs the X-ray and UV variability are intrinsically coordinated. The variability synchronicity exhibits no dependence on physical parameters of quasars or the time lag of the epoch-pairs, except for stronger variability tends to have stronger synchronicity. Switches between synchronous and asynchronous variability are also seen in individual sources. The poor coordination clearly contradicts both the X-ray reprocessing model and the accretion rate variation model for AGN variability. The ratios of the observed X-ray variability amplitude to that in UV span a broad range and peak at ~ 2. The dominant fraction of the ratios appear too small to be attributed to X-ray reprocessing, and too large for accretion rate variation. The UV/optical variation, likely driven by accretion disc turbulence, is a defining characteristic of type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and quasars. In this work we investigate an interesting consequence of such turbulence using quasars in SDSS Stripe 82 for which the measurements of the UV/optical variability amplitude are available from $\sim$ 10 years long light curves. We discover positive correlations between UV/optical variability amplitude $\sigma_{rms}$ and equivalent widths of CIV, Mg II and [OIII]5007 emission lines. Such correlations remain statistically robust through partial correlation analyses, i.e., after controlling the effects of other variables including bolometric luminosity, central supermassive black hole mass, Eddington ratio and redshift. This, for the first time, indicates a causal link between disc turbulence and emission line production. We propose two potential underlying mechanisms both of which may be involved: 1) quasars with stronger disc turbulence have on average bluer/harder broadband SED, an expected effect of the disc thermal fluctuation model; 2) stronger disc turbulence could lead to launch of emission line regions with larger covering factors., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables, accepted by ApJ

Investigating how the cutoff energy $E_{\rm cut}$ varies with X-ray flux and photon index $\Gamma$ in individual AGNs opens a new window to probe the yet unclear coronal physics. So far $E_{\rm cut}$ variations have only been detected in several AGNs but different patterns have been reported. Here we report new detections of $E_{\rm cut}$ variations in two Seyfert galaxies with multiple NuSTAR exposures. While in NGC 3227 $E_{\rm cut}$ monotonically increases with $\Gamma$, the $E_{\rm cut}$-$\Gamma$ relation exhibits a $\Lambda$ shape in SWIFT J2127.4+5654 ($E_{\rm cut}$ increasing with $\Gamma$ at $\Gamma$ $\lesssim$ 2.05, but reversely decreasing at $\Gamma$ $\gtrsim$ 2.05), indicating more than a single underlying mechanism is involved. Meanwhile both galaxies show softer spectra while they brighten in X-ray, a common phenomenon in Seyfert galaxies. Plotting all 7 AGNs with $E_{\rm cut}$ variations ever reported with NuSTAR observations in the $E_{\rm cut}$-$\Gamma$ diagram, we find they could be unified with the $\Lambda$ pattern. Although the sample is small and SWIFT J2127.4+5654 is the only source with $\Gamma$ varying across the break point thus the only one exhibiting the complete $\Lambda$ pattern in a single source, the discoveries shed new light on the coronal physics in AGNs. This paper addresses sampled-data control of 2D Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation over a rectangular domain. We suggest to divide the 2D rectangular into N sub-domains, where sensors provide spatially averaged or point state measurements to be transmitted through communication network to the controller. Note that differently from 2D heat equation, here we manage with sampled-data control under point measurements. We design a regionally stabilizing controller applied through distributed in space characteristic functions. Sufficient conditions ensuring regional stability of the closed-loop system are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). By solving these LMIs, we find an estimate on the set of initial conditions starting from which the state trajectories of the system are exponentially converging to zero. A numerical example demonstrates the efficiency of the results.

To eliminate the problems of large dimensional differences, big semantic gap, and mutual interference caused by hybrid features, in this paper, we propose a novel Multi-Features Guidance Network for partial-to-partial point cloud registration(MFG). The proposed network mainly includes four parts: keypoints' feature extraction, correspondences searching, correspondences credibility computation, and SVD, among which correspondences searching and correspondence credibility computation are the cores of the network. Unlike the previous work, we utilize the shape features and the spatial coordinates to guide correspondences search independently and fusing the matching results to obtain the final matching matrix. In the correspondences credibility computation module, based on the conflicted relationship between the features matching matrix and the coordinates matching matrix, we score the reliability for each correspondence, which can reduce the impact of mismatched or non-matched points. NuSTAR observatory, with its 3 - 78 keV broadband spectral coverage, enables the detections of the high-energy cutoff in a number of active galaxies, including several individual radio loud ones. In this work we present systematic and uniform analyses of 55 NuSTAR spectra for a large sample of 28 radio galaxies, 20 of which are FR II galaxies. We perform spectral fitting to measure the high energy cut-off $E_{cut}$, photon index $\Gamma$, reflection factor R and Fe K$\alpha$ line equivalent width. Measurements of $E_{cut}$ are given for 13 sources, and lower limits for the rest. We find those $E_{cut}$ non-detections could primarily be attributed to the obviously smaller net photon counts in their spectra. This indicates that the NuSTAR spectra of the majority of our sample are dominated by the thermal corona emission, and the $E_{cut}$ distribution of the sample is indistinguishable from that of a radio quiet one in literature. The flatter NuSTAR spectra we observed, comparing with radio quiet sources, are thus unlikely due to jet contamination. The radio galaxies also show weaker X-ray reflection (both in R and Fe K$\alpha$ line EW) comparing with radio quiet ones. Combining with the radio quiet sample we see a correlation between R and EW, but with considerably large scatter. Notably, the radio loud and quiet sources appear to follow a common $\Gamma$ - R correlation trend, supporting the outflowing corona model for both populations in which higher bulk outflowing velocity yields weaker reflection and flatter X-ray slope., Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures, 6 tables, accepted by ApJ
