Background: Ameloblastoma is an aggressive odontogenic tumor that is often asymptomatic and slow-growing. Although it is benign in nature, due to its invasive characters and tendency to recur it is considered as a localized malignant tumour. Procedure: This is a retrospective study that involves 87 confirmed cases of ameloblastoma over 10 years. The case records and biopsy reports were retrieved from the archives of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences. Results and conclusion: The results revealed that age group between 26-50 years (49.4%) were affected the most, and had a male predilection (58.6%) and maximum involvement of jaw was mandible (88.5%), site involvement was the body of the mandible (52.9%), the radiographic feature was the multicystic type (56.3%), the histopathological variant was follicular (33.3%) and out of the total number of cases analysed 9 cases had recurrence (10.3%). Clinical significance: The purpose of this study is to analyse and evaluate the distribution and frequency of ameloblastoma among various entities such as age group, jaw involved, site, histopathological variant, radiographic feature, and recurrence, to promote early diagnosis and treat them effectively.

Incarcerated individuals usually exhibit high oral health needs than the average population. Several factors contribute to these needs both before incarceration and during the sentence itself. Inmates are a marginalized group, who are at a higher risk for a variety of medical, dental, and emotional disorders than the general population. The aim of the study was to assess of effects of the imprisonment period on the oral health status of inmates.A total of 532 inmates with imprisonment up to three years, three to six years, and six to ten years were included in the study. Incidence and prevalence of dental caries, decayed, missing, filled teeth (DMFT) index, and periodontal and prosthetic status were evaluated in detail.Results showed that the prevalence of dental caries was relatively high among the convicts. It was found that 98.2% of the inmates had one or more teeth decayed. Additionally, 31.2% (pocket4mm) of the inmates had poor periodontal status with 4.5% of the subjects having a loss of attachment score of 4-5mm or more. A total of 3.5% of the inmates had full dentures, either upper or lower arch. The relative need for full prosthesis was projected to be around 1.4% of the studied population.Within the limitations of the study, the authors found that dental healthcare delivered and received by the inmates is much below the acceptable limit. Additionally, the incidence of dental caries in inmates was unexpectedly higher with tooth decay in 98.2% of subjects. Hence, the need of the hour is to critically incorporate and reinforce our efforts with a special focus on the risk factors of oral health.

Aims and Objective: To compare the attitude and awareness of dental and medical students in the first and the final academic years and to trace the change in their attitude and awareness towards oral health; to also bring out differences/similarities in response to the questionnaire based on gender. Materials and methods: A modified version of HU-DBI questionnaire was used to conduct the survey in medical and dental colleges of India. A total of 279 students were recruited in the study. The data collected concerned the oral hygiene awareness and attitude, dental complaints and previous visits to dentists. Results: Significant differences were found for 9 of 17 items, reflecting an increased awareness and improved attitude toward oral health in the final year dental students as compared to the first year dental students. The dental students exhibited better awareness than the medical students irrespective of gender. Conclusion: Significant improvement was found in the awareness and attitude of the final year dental students as compared to the first year dental students. This change was marginal in the medical students.

Background: Dental students constitute a stakeholder group that is able to provide unique information concerning the effectiveness of the dental curriculum. The purpose of this study was to determine students′ perceptions of the learning environment, intellectual climate and teacher student relationships in dental school. Methods : This study was conducted among 341 dental students of two dental college of Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. Response rate was 85%. In this study, the dental version of Medical Student Learning Environment Survey has been used. The questionnaires were divided in to 7 subscales like flexibility, student to student interaction, emotional climate, meaningful experience, organization, supportiveness, and breadth of interest. The students were divided in to two groups of preclinical and clinical for the purpose of comparison. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and t-test. Results: The results were statistically analyzed and differentiated in to preclinical and clinical phases. The preclinical and clinical students rated the student to student interaction as the most favorable whereas the lowest score was given to flexibility by both preclinical and clinical students. Preclinical students rated emotional climate as the lowest after flexibility whereas clinical students rated breadth of interest and meaningful experience as the lowest score after flexibility. Conclusion: This study emphasized the areas of improvement in dental school learning environment based on students′ perspective by making these required and much needed changes in the curriculum. Students′ satisfaction with their dental education can be increased.

Aims and objectives: The purpose of this study was to associate oral hygiene frequency and presence of visible biofilm in the permanent dentition. Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaires survey was conducted among 300 school children in Bhopal located in central zone of Madhya Pradesh in India during the period of January 2015. Two biofilm indices, one simplified (BF1) and other conventional (BF2), were used. BF1 classifies biofilm as absent, thin or thick, in anterior and/or posterior teeth, and provides scores for the subject, whereas BF2 classifies, biofilm as absent or present, provides scores for three sufaces of each tooth and the final score is the percentage of tooth surfaces with biofilm. Chi-square and Spearman's correlation tests were applied by using Statistical Package of Social Science software. Results: 10% of subjects clean their teeth twice a day or more, whereas 1% subject never clean their teeth. Maximum 84% subject clean their teeth once a day. BF1 reveals that 7% (21) of the children had no visible biofilm, 80% (240) had thin biofilm in anterior or posterior teeth, 12% (36) had thick biofilm in anterior or posterior teeth and 1% (3) had thick biofilm in both anterior and posterior teeth. BF2 revealed a mean value of 31.141%. Conclusion: A significant correlations were found between oral hygiene frequency and presence of visible biofilm expressed by the simplified and the conventional indices.
