Abstract

Additive manufacturing of materials using magnetic particles as feedstock has attracted tremendous attention during the past decade owing to its ability to tune both shape and magnetocrystalline anisotropy, which can significantly enhance the magnetic characteristics of materials. We demonstrate that the magnetic response of multilayered thin films of Gd5Si4 can be tailored by controlling the external magnetic field during inkjet printing. The external magnetic field aligns the magnetic particles along their magnetic easy axis, enhancing the magnetic anisotropy of the printed films. Our work demonstrates the ability to print thin magnetic films with a defined anisotropy in any chosen direction with the potential to approaching magnetic properties of corresponding single crystalline materials.

This paper is an overall presentation of that campaign.

Abstract

Abstract Neurodegenerative diseases involve progressive neuronal death. Traditional treatments often struggle due to solubility, bioavailability, and crossing the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB). Nanoparticles (NPs) in biomedical field are garnering growing attention as neurodegenerative disease drugs (NDDs) carrier to the central nervous system. Here, we introduced computational and experimental analysis. In the computational study, a specific IFPTML technique was used, which combined Information Fusion (IF) + Perturbation Theory (PT) + Machine Learning (ML) to select the most promising Nanoparticle Neuronal Disease Drug Delivery (N2D3) systems. For the application of IFPTML model in the nanoscience, NANO.PTML is used. IF-process was carried out between 4403 NDDs assays and 260 cytotoxicity NP assays conducting a dataset of 500,000 cases. The optimal IFPTML was the Decision Tree (DT) algorithm which shown satisfactory performance with specificity values of 96.4% and 96.2%, and sensitivity values of 79.3% and 75.7% in the training (375k/75%) and validation (125k/25%) set. Moreover, the DT model obtained Area Under Receiver Operating Characteristic (AUROC) scores of 0.97 and 0.96 in the training and validation series, highlighting its effectiveness in classification tasks. In the experimental part, two samples of NPs (Fe3O4_A and Fe3O4_B) were synthesized by thermal decomposition of an iron(III) oleate (FeOl) precursor and structurally characterized by different methods. Additionally, in order to make the as-synthesized hydrophobic NPs (Fe3O4_A and Fe3O4_B) soluble in water the amphiphilic CTAB (Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide) molecule was employed. Therefore, to conduct a study with a wider range of NP system variants, an experimental illustrative simulation experiment was performed using the IFPTML-DT model. For this, a set of 500,000 prediction dataset was created. The outcome of this experiment highlighted certain NANO.PTML systems as promising candidates for further investigation. The NANO.PTML approach holds potential to accelerate experimental investigations and offer initial insights into various NP and NDDs compounds, serving as an efficient alternative to time-consuming trial-and-error procedures.

25. Comparison between head rotation and standard techniques for i-gel™ insertion: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract

Abstract Background This study evaluated the effect of head rotation on the first-attempt success rate of i-gel insertion, aiming to alleviate the effect of gravity on the tongue and reduce resistance between the device and the tongue. Methods Adult surgical patients were randomized to standard and head rotation technique groups. In the head rotation technique group, patients’ heads were maximally rotated to the left before i-gel insertion. The primary endpoint was the first-attempt success rate. Secondary endpoints included the success rate within two attempts (using the allocated technique), time required for successful i-gel placement within two attempts, and success rate at the third attempt (using the opposite technique). Results Among 158 patients, the head rotation technique group showed a significantly higher first-attempt success rate (60/80, 75.0%) compared to the standard technique group (45/78, 57.7%; P = 0.021). The success rate within two attempts was similar between the groups (95.0% vs. 91.0%, P = 0.326). The time required for successful i-gel placement was significantly shorter in the head rotation technique (mean [SD], 13.4 [3.7] s vs. 16.3 [7.8] s; P = 0.030). When the head rotation technique failed, the standard technique also failed in all cases (n = 4), whereas the head rotation technique succeeded in five out of the seven patients where the standard technique failed. Conclusions The head rotation technique significantly improved the first-attempt success rate and reduced the time required for successful i-gel insertion. It was effective when the standard technique failed. The head rotation technique may be an effective primary or alternative method for i-gel insertion. Abstract The optimal anesthetic agent for radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) of atrial fibrillation (AF) and its impact on the recovery profiles remain uncertain. We compared the recovery and hemodynamic parameters between the remimazolam-flumazenil and propofol groups during RFCA. Patients were randomized into the remimazolam-flumazenil and propofol groups. The primary outcome measure was the time to eye opening following the discontinuation of anesthetic agents. Secondary outcomes included time to extubation, time to discharge from the operating room, intraprocedural hemodynamic variables and postoperative quality outcomes. Fifty-three patients were included in the final analysis (n = 26 in the remimazolam-flumazenil and n = 27 in the propofol group). In this work the homoclinic bifurcation of the family H={h(a,b)(x)=ax2+b:a∈R/{0},b∈R} is studied. We proved that this family has a homoclinic tangency associated to x=0 of P1 for b=-2/a. Also we proved that Wu(P1) does not intersect the backward orbit of P1 for b>-2/a, but has intersection for b0. So H has this type of the bifurcation.

Abstract

Aims Since its emergence in early 2020, the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has reached pandemic levels, and there have been repeated outbreaks across the globe. The aim of this two-part series is to provide practical knowledge and guidance to aid clinicians in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in association with COVID-19. Methods and results A narrative literature review of the available evidence has been performed, and the resulting information has been organized into two parts. The first, reported here, focuses on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and diagnosis of cardiovascular (CV) conditions that may be manifest in patients with COVID-19. The second part, which will follow in a later edition of the journal, addresses the topics of care pathways, treatment, and follow-up of CV conditions in patients with COVID-19. Conclusion This comprehensive review is not a formal guideline but rather a document that provides a summary of current knowledge and guidance to practicing clinicians managing patients with CVD and COVID-19. The recommendations are mainly the result of observations and personal experience from healthcare providers. Therefore, the information provided here may be subject to change with increasing knowledge, evidence from prospective studies, and changes in the pandemic. The Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI) aims at comparing ontology matching systems on precisely defined test cases. These test cases can be based on ontologies of different levels of complexity and use different evaluation modalities. The OAEI 2022 campaign offered 14 tracks and was attended by 18 participants. AbstractThis study examines how well Arabic-speaking EFL undergraduate students can understand gender-definite articles in French. Forty students studying French language and literature at the University of Jordan’s Faculty of Foreign Languages were equally divided into two groups based on their French language proficiency level (sophomores and seniors). Having studied English as a foreign language for 12 years, these native Arabic speakers answered 17 multiple-choice questions during a 45-minute test at the University of Jordan. The test required participants to select the correct French masculine or feminine article for each target noun. An introspective session was held after the test to obtain an understanding of their results. A t-test was administered to analyze the data and determine if the differences in participants’ responses within each group were statistically significant. Data analysis revealed that the differences between the two groups’ correct answers on the test were statistically significant in favor of the senior group. In addition, the results show a strong correlation between more exposure to French and improved proficiency, drawing on Rothman’s Typological Primacy Model (2011). Given the closer typological congruence between Arabic and French than between English and French, positive transfer was observed between the two languages. It is suggested that some structural analogies—complex inflectional morphology and gender marking—that are highly aligned in L1 and L3 are the reason behind the learners’ reliance on Arabic. It is argued that, in contrast to the early phases of acquisition, positive transfer becomes more pronounced with increased exposure.

Abstract

Diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L.) is one of the major pests of all cruciferous cropsand it can survive in all the agro-climatic zones of India. The marketable crop loss caused byDiamondback moth (DBM) varies from 52% to 100%. The use of entomopathogenic micro-organisms proves to be very efficient in pest management. The efficacy of three commercialmicrobial insecticides viz., Bacillus thuringiensis (Green Lipel), Beauveria bassiana (Multiplex Baba) andMetarhizium anisopliae (Green Pacer) at different doses was tested on the basis of percent larvalmortality when 3 day old larvae of DBM were exposed to the formulations. All the microbialformulations were effective in suppressing larval growth and development as compared to untreatedcontrol. Larval death could be markedly observed after 72 hours of treatment. Treatment withBeauveria bassiana @ 4g/l gave the highest larval mortality of 27.50% after 72 hours of treatment. At 96 hours after treatment, percent larval mortality caused by B. bassiana @ 5g/l recorded maximummortality of 55.00% which was observed to increase from 25.00% at 72 hours after exposure. After120 hours of treatment, mortality of larvae exposed to the microbial insecticides was observed to behighest with larval mortality ranging from 25.00% to 62.50% for all the microbial formulations. Ofwhich, the highest percent mortality of larvae was observed with treatment B. bassiana @ 5g/l thatgave 62.50% mortality. Lower mortality could be recorded with lower doses of microbial insecticidesas compared to the mortality due to higher doses. B. thuringiensis proved to be least effective amongthe tested microbial formulations

Abstract

Fall Armyworm is a highly damaging pest of maize. It has a very rapid spreading capacity. It is becoming a major threat in India as well as in north Eastern states. Proper quarantine measures should be strengthened to control the further entry of pest through different medium. Regular monitoring and scouting for the presence of the pest should be done. The spreading of FAW should be managed at the primary level using the integrated pest management methods like cultural control, biological control and use of chemicals below the economic injury level. However, the use of chemicals during the initial phase of pest spreading is not suggested as it can harm the natural enemies of the pest too.
