Catalytic processes are contemplated as break point in generating alternative and sustainable energy platforms. The cathodic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is an important catalytic system, mainly finding practice in fuel cell and metal-air battery technologies. This work presents the synthesis, structural characterization and electrocatalytic properties of three different Cu2Mo6S8 structures as alternative ORR electrocatalysts. The effect of different carbon additives during synthesis was studied and no positive influence of the carbon addition was indicated. Our findings show that only the bare Cu2Mo6S8 enhances the ORR electro-performance to class with the state-of-the-art ORR catalysts. Excellent stability of 10,000 consecutive ORR cycles, a superior onset potential of 0.894 V and halfwave (E-1/2) potential of 0.641 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) increase the noteworthiness of the Cu2Mo6S8 electrodes. Aside from experimental investigations, density functional theory calculations deliver profound knowledge on the structural and electronic properties (electronic band structure, partial density of states and electron density) of Cu2Mo6S8. Energy is of great importance for today's society and economy. Our economic, social and physical well-being all depend on adequate and uninterrupted energy production. Cogeneration systems used for energy production can be defined as the combined production of electricity and heat energy from a single fuel source. While conventional systems can only produce electricity with 30-35% efficiency, the efficiency of cogeneration systems can exceed 80% by using waste heat to meet thermal demands. Because of these advantages, in developed countries, energy production in buildings with micro cogeneration systems has incentives. Policies are adopted to ensure the security of supply by making the building sector not consuming energy but being energy producers. In this study, a comprehensive literature review including the definition, types and selection criteria for different types of applications of domestic cogeneration systems is presented. As a result of the researches, it was concluded that technical (application capacity, heat-power ratio etc.), economic (investment cost, operating cost, payback period etc.) and environmental (decarbonisation etc.) parameters should be considered together in the selection of the appropriate domestic cogeneration system., Enerji, günümüz toplumunun ve ekonomisinin can damarıdır. Bu çalışmada, evsel kojenerasyon sistemlerinin tanımı, çeşitleri ve farklı tür uygulamalar için seçim kriterlerini içeren detaylı bir literatür araştırması sunulmuştur. Yapılan araştırmalar neticesinde, uygun evsel kojenerasyon sisteminin seçiminde teknik (uygulama kapasitesi, ısı-güç oranı vb.), ekonomik (yatırım maliyeti, işletme maliyeti, geri ödeme süresi vb.) ve çevresel (karbonsuzlaştırma vb.) parametrelerin bir arada değerlendirilmesi gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.

Today, the energy needs are increasing, but the limited amount of fossil energy resources existing and its harmful to the environment has led to the spread of alternative energy sources. The most reliable, easily accessible and inexpensive energy source among these alternative energy sources is accepted worldwide as the efficient use of energy. In this context, energy efficiency is defined as the reduction of energy consumption without causing a decrease in production quality and quantity. Most of the energy obtained from different sources is used in the industry sector. It is anticipated that energy efficiency can be reduced and efficiency will be increased through methods such as efficient use of energy in the industry, prevention of losses and leaks and recovery of waste energy. At the same time, efficient use of energy will make a great contribution to the economy of the country and the protection of the environment. In the industrial sector, especially not using waste heat is one of the most important causes of lost energy. In this study, the waste heat recovery systems are defined and the parameters affecting the thermal efficiency of the two types of waste heat recovery systems (heat wheel and recuperator) most used in the industry are investigated experimentally. Taguchi method was used to determine the optimum conditions in order to increase efficiency in the system examined, and the results were interpreted by analyzing. The optimum conditions for the heat wheel are found as 100% heat wheel turnover rate, 60% Fan 1 speed and 80% Fan 2 speed, while the recuperator is 50 ºC air inlet temperature, 60% Fan 1 speed and 80% Fan 2 speed. The highest efficiency values obtained as a result of verification experiments were calculated as 97% and 73% for heat wheel and recuperator systems, respectively. Sanayi sektöründe, özellikle atık ısının kullanılmaması kayıp enerjinin en önemli sebeplerinden biridir. Bu çalışmada atık ısı geri kazanım sistemleri tanımlanarak, sanayide en çok kullanılan iki tip atık ısı geri kazanım sisteminin (ısı tekeri ve reküparatör) ısıl verimi üzerindeki etki eden parametreler deneysel olarak incelenmiştir. İncelenen sistemde verimliliğin arttırılması amacıyla optimum şartların belirlenmesi için Taguchi metodu kullanılmış ve analizler gerçekleştirilerek sonuçlar yorumlanmıştır. Isı tekeri için optimum koşullar % 100 ısı tekeri devir hızı, % 60 Fan 1 hızı ve % 80 Fan 2 hızı olarak bulurken, reküparatör için 50 ºC hava giriş sıcaklığı, % 60 Fan 1 hızı ve % 80 Fan 2 hızı olarak bulunmuştur. Doğrulama deneyleri sonucunda elde edilen en yüksek verim değerleri ısı tekeri ve reküparatör sistemleri için sırasıyla % 97 ve % 73 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bu değerler, yapılan tüm deneyler içerisinde en yüksek verim değerleri olarak kaydedilmiş ve Taguchi metodunun uygulanabilirliği ile yapılan analizlerin doğruluğunu göstermiştir.

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells are those that form the water as the only by-product that directly and efficiently converts the chemical energy stored in the fuel into electrical energy; it is a technology that has the potential to reduce our energy use, pollutant emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. PEM fuel cells, which have started commercializing as a result of long years of research and development, still have difficulties to overcome to be an alternative to traditional technologies. In order to overcome the difficulties such as sustainability, durability and cost, the detailed study of PEM fuel cells’ working principle, thermodynamics, and the tasks of the ongoing research studies; In addition, potential development areas should be known and development activities should continue in this direction. Concerns about fossil fuel consumption, increasing energy demands and greenhouse gas emissions have greatly increased the search for sustainable and green energy alternatives. Recycling of organic wastes is as important as energy. Untreated organic wastes cause serious environmental problems such as water pollution or odor problems. Recycling of organic wastes is important for both environmental protection and energy recovery. Organic wastes should be considered as valuable biomass for resource recovery rather than waste. In recent years, microbial fuel cells have attracted great interest as systems for converting organic matter into electricity. They convert substrates into harmless by-products using simultaneous generation of electricity using substrates from renewable sources such as organic matter. Soil-based microbial fuel cells are an attractive carbon-neutral energy conversion technology that can generate beneficial electricity from naturally occurring microorganisms and organic matter in the soil. In this study, a soil based microbial fuel cell producing bioelectricity by biodegradation of mold containing organic materials was developed. In order to examine the potential of different molds to produce electricity, different mold types such as bread mold, cheese mold, lemon mold and tomato paste mold were examined. The soil-based microbial fuel cell system has been installed with the same amounts of soil+vermicompost+mold+water. Bread mold showed the highest value with 193 µW. As a result, it was observed that different mold types have different power generation potentials and profiles. It was concluded that soil based microbial fuel cells have high electricity generation potential by using molds in organic wastes. Farklı küflerin elektrik üretme potansiyellerini inceleyebilmek için ekmek küfü, peynir küfü, limon küfü ve salça küfü olacak şekilde farklı küf çeşitleri incelenmiştir. Toprak bazlı mikrobiyal yakıt hücresi sistemi aynı miktarlarda toprak+solucan gübresi+küf+su olacak şekilde kurulmuştur. Ekmek küfü 193 µW ile en yüksek değeri göstermiştir. Sonuç olarak, farklı küf çeşitlerinin birbirinden farklı güç üretim potansiyellerinin ve profillerinin olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. The acid-used sol-gel synthesis of nano-sized titania (TiO) powders has been studied systematically to optimize the processing parameters by Taguchi method that control crystallite size. In addition, crystallite and particle size of TiO2 powders were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). For this purpose, the amount of acid, reaction temperature and reaction time were determined as control parameters. In order to achieve these objectives, Taguchi's L9 orthogonal design (3 parameter, 3 level) was used for the experiential design. In order to determine the optimal synthesis conditions for nanosized TiO2 powders, the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio was used, which was calculated from crystallite size of the nano-sized TiO2powders using "the-smaller-the-better" appoachment. Besides, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilised to accomplish the statistical importance of the synthesis parameters. Experiments were fulfilled to verify the model at the chosen conditions and the particle size was determined according to XRD analysis as 46.98 nm. Moreover, the actual size of the synthesised nano-sized TiO2powders with the average size was 51.41 nm. Therefore, the Taguchi optimization method was a main tool in the optimization of the nanosized TiO2 powders synthesis process with less experiential tests and slightly cost-efficient approachment.

Sunulan çalışmanın amacı, kafeik asit tayinine yönelik moleküler baskılanmış polimer (MIP) temelli kuvars kristal mikroterazi (QCM) nanosensör hazırlanmasıdır. QCM nanosensör, Metakrilamidoantipirin-Fe(III) [MAAP-Fe(III)]-Kafeik asit ön organize monomer sistemini kullanarak kafeik asidi tanıyan belleklerin QCM elektrot yüzeyinde oluşturulmasıyla hazırlanmıştır. Hazırlanan ön organize monomer sistemi Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) ile QCM nanosensörler Atomik Kuvvet Mikroskobuyla (AFM) karakterize edilmiştir. Karakterizasyon çalışmalarının ardından baskılanmış ve baskılanmamış sensörler QCM sistemine bağlanarak hedef moleküle bağlanma çalışmaları, seçicilik çalışmaları ve gerçek numunelerde hedef molekülün tayin çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar, baskılanmış QCM nanosensörün kafeik asit için yüksek seçiciliğe sahip olduğunu göstermektedir., The aim of this study is the preparation of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) nanosensor for the detection of amount of caffeic acid. QCM nanosensor was prepared by formation of caffeic acid memories on the gold surface of QCM electrode by using Methacrylamideantipyrine-Fe(III) [MAAP-Fe (III)]-Caffeic acid pre-organized monomer system. The designed pre-organized monomer system was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and QCM nanosensors was characterized by Atomic Force Microscope (AFM). After the characterization studies, imprinted and non-imprinted sensors was connected to QCM system for studies of connection of the target molecule, selectivity and the detection of amount of target molecule in real samples. The results showed that the imprinted QCM nanosensor has high selectivity for caffeic acid.

Toprak bazlı mikrobiyal yakıt hücrelerinin organik atıklardaki küfleri kullanarak elektrik üretim potansiyellerinin yüksek olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Toprak bazlı mikrobiyal yakıt hücrelerinin yeşil elektrik üretimi için iyi bir yol olduğu ve aynı zamanda sağlıklı ve kirlilik içermeyen bir çevre sağlamak için organik atıkların geri dönüşümü için kullanılabileceği görülmüştür. Concerns about fossil fuel consumption, increasing energy demands and greenhouse gas emissions have greatly increased the search for sustainable and green energy alternatives. Recycling of organic wastes is as important as energy. Untreated organic wastes cause serious environmental problems such as water pollution or odor problems. Recycling of organic wastes is important for both environmental protection and energy recovery. Organic wastes should be considered as valuable biomass for resource recovery rather than waste. In recent years, microbial fuel cells have attracted great interest as systems for converting organic matter into electricity. They convert substrates into harmless by-products using simultaneous generation of electricity using substrates from renewable sources such as organic matter. Soil-based microbial fuel cells are an attractive carbon-neutral energy conversion technology that can generate beneficial electricity from naturally occurring microorganisms and organic matter in the soil. In this study, a soil based microbial fuel cell producing bioelectricity by biodegradation of mold containing organic materials was developed. In order to examine the potential of different molds to produce electricity, different mold types such as bread mold, cheese mold, lemon mold and tomato paste mold were examined. The soil-based microbial fuel cell system has been installed with the same amounts of soil+vermicompost+mold+water. Bread mold showed the highest value with 193 µW. As a result, it was observed that different mold types have different power generation potentials and profiles. It was concluded that soil based microbial fuel cells have high electricity generation potential by using molds in organic wastes. It has been found that soil-based microbial fuel cells are a good way to generate green electricity and can also be used to recycle organic waste to ensure a healthy and pollution-free environment.

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells are one of the fuel cell types that are preferred especially in vehicles and portable devices due to their highpower density and energy conversion efficiency, small footprint, lightness and low operating temperature. While hydrogen is oxidized by giving electrons in the anode part of the PEM fuel cell, oxygen is reduced by taking electrons in the cathode part. The catalyst layer is where the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) or oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) takes place. The ORR occurring at the cathode has a higher activation energy than the HOR at the anode and runs slower under equal conditions. Therefore, the amount of platinum used as a catalyst in the cathode has a determining effect on the cost of the fuel cell, and most of the studies on PEM fuel cells focus on alternative catalysts that can be used in the cathode. The chevrel phases are a distinguished family of materials with numerous and sometimes surprising physical and chemical properties that have led to the extensive study of these compounds. These remarkable properties are closely related to the ability of the crystal structure to accommodate a large number of elements covering all ranges of chemical properties. It has been observed that the chevrel phase compounds exhibit remarkable electrocatalytic activities in the oxygen reduction reaction and these activities are closely related to the content and nature of metal ions in the cluster. In the thesis, it is aimed to synthesize alternative, more economical and more effective catalysts to platinum catalysts, which constitute a large part of the cost of the PEM fuel cell and have activation problems in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). For this purpose, the chevrel phases (Cu2Mo6S8 and Fe2Mo6S8) which exhibit remarkable electrocatalytic activities in the oxygen reduction reaction were synthesized using different carbon sources and their electrocatalytic properties were investigated. The combination with the highest electrocatalytic activity was determined as Cu2Mo6S8, with a mass activity of 4,510 mA/mgmetal catalyst, an initial potential (Eonset) of 0.95 V and a half-wave potential (E1/2) of 0.72 V.

Enerji, günümüz toplumunun ve ekonomisinin can damarıdır. Ekonomik, sosyal ve fiziksel refahımızın tümü, yeterli ve kesintisiz enerji üretimine bağlıdır. Enerji üretimi için kullanılan kojenerasyon sistemleri, elektrik ve ısı enerjisinin tek bir yakıt kaynağından kombine bir şekilde üretilmesi olarak tanımlanabilir. Konvansiyonel sistemlerde sadece elektrik üretimi %30-35 verim ile gerçekleşebilirken, atık ısının ısınma ve sıcak su ihtiyaçlarının karşılanması için kullanılmasıyla kojenerasyon sistemlerinin verimi %80’in üzerine çıkabilmektedir. Bu avantajlardan dolayı, gelişmiş ülkelerde, mikro kojenerasyon sistemleriyle binalarda enerji üretimi teşvik edilmektedir. Böylece bina sektörünü enerji tüketen değil enerji üreten duruma getirerek, arz güvenliğini de garanti altına alan politikalar benimsenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, evsel kojenerasyon sistemlerinin tanımı, çeşitleri ve farklı tür uygulamalar için seçim kriterlerini içeren detaylı bir literatür araştırması sunulmuştur. Yapılan araştırmalar neticesinde, uygun evsel kojenerasyon sisteminin seçiminde teknik (uygulama kapasitesi, ısı-güç oranı vb.), ekonomik (yatırım maliyeti, işletme maliyeti, geri ödeme süresi vb.) ve çevresel (karbonsuzlaştırma vb.) parametrelerin bir arada değerlendirilmesi gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır. Energy is of great importance for today's society and economy. Our economic, social and physical well-being all depend on adequate and uninterrupted energy production. Cogeneration systems used for energy production can be defined as the combined production of electricity and heat energy from a single fuel source. While conventional systems can only produce electricity with 30-35% efficiency, the efficiency of cogeneration systems can exceed 80% by using waste heat to meet thermal demands. Because of these advantages, in developed countries, energy production in buildings with micro cogeneration systems has incentives. Policies are adopted to ensure the security of supply by making the building sector not consuming energy but being energy producers. In this study, a comprehensive literature review including the definition, types and selection criteria for different types of applications of domestic cogeneration systems is presented. As a result of the researches, it was concluded that technical (application capacity, heat-power ratio etc.), economic (investment cost, operating cost, payback period etc.) and environmental (decarbonisation etc.) parameters should be considered together in the selection of the appropriate domestic cogeneration system.

WOS:000558369000001 In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) nanosensor was prepared to detect tryptophan. QCM nanosensor was prepared through the formation of tryptophan memories on the gold surface of QCM electrode using Methacryloylamidohistidine-Cu(II)-tryptophan ([MAH-Cu(II)]-tryptophan) pre-organised monomer system. The designed pre-organised monomer system was characterised by use of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) was used to characterise the QCM nanosensors. After the characterisation studies, imprinted and non-imprinted sensors were connected to QCM system to determine the binding of the target molecule, selectivity and the detection of the amount of target molecule in real samples. The results showed that the imprinted QCM nanosensor had high selectivity for tryptophan.

In general, the outgoing exhaust gasses are released to atmosphere at over temperature of the dew point of water vapor in waste gases. It is well known that recovering a portion of the waste heat enhances the efficiency of boilers and provides fuel savings. In this study, the potential of recovering waste heat emitted by the hot water boiler chimney in a central heating plant of a selected university was investigated. Energy losses were calculated for six months that the central heating system was in full-load operation. As a result of the calculation, it was determined that recovery of the waste heat can be employed as a combustion air preheater by means of a recuperator. It was stated that 53,768 $m^3$ of natural gas savings per year (44.86 TOE/year) can be achieved with the suggested system.

In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) nanosensor, which is imprinted cholic acid, has been developed for the assignation of cholic acid. The cholic acid selective memories have been generated on QCM electrode surface by using molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) based on methacryloylamidohistidine-copper (II) (MAH-Cu(II)) pre-organized monomer. The cholic acid imprinted nanosensor was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and then analytical performance of the cholic acid imprinted QCM nanosensor was studied. The detection limit was found to be 0.0065 mu M with linear range of 0.01-1000 mu M. Moreover, the high value of Langmuir constant (b) (7.3 * 10(5)) obtained by Langmuir graph showed that the cholic acid imprinted nanosensor had quite strong binding sites affinity. WOS: 000329277800007, The aim of our work is to obtain nano-structured cadmium oxide (CdO) thin films by sol-gel spin coating method and to investigate the effects of cadmium sulfide quantum dots (CdS QDs) doping on the structural modification and surface morphology evolution. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show that the intensities of the peaks of the crystalline phase increase with the increase in CdS QDs concentrations. From scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, the distinct variations in the morphology of the thin films were also observed. In addition, the evolution of surface morphology, roughness and granularity has been characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Moreover, we have performed the optical characteristics of the thin films such as transparency, energy band gap and Urbach tail. The optical band gap of the thin films increases from 2.23 to 2.51 eV with the increase in CdS QDs concentrations due to the Moss-Burstein effect. The enhanced values of the transparency, energy band gap and crystallity indicate that addition of CdS QDs can be used to modify the optical, structural and morphological properties of CdO thin films.
