X-ray diffraction measurements are performed on a 1 m (=mol kg−1) CeCl3 aqueous solution over a temperature range of 300–600 K and a pressure range of 0.1 MPa to 4 GPa. The experimental interference functions are analyzed by an empirical potential structure refinement (EPSR) modeling. The Ce3+ coordinates water molecules in a tricapped trigonal prism configuration under the ambient condition. The number of water molecules around Ce3+ changes from 8.8 at 0.1 MPa/300 K to 11.5 at 4 GPa/600 K. The number of water molecules around Cl− changes drastically from 10 under the ambient condition to 17 at 4 GPa/600 K. The tetrahedral-like network structure of water under the ambient condition is transformed toward a simple liquid-like packing in the GPa pressure range. The corresponding coordination number is increased from 4.3 in the ambient condition to 9.7 at 4 GPa/600 K. The Ce3+–Cl− association decreases with increasing pressure.

量子科学技術研究開発機構では、文科省のナノテクノロジープラットフォーム事業を受託して、大型放射光施設SPring-8に設置している専用装置の外部利用者の支援を行っている。そのうちの表面X線回折計、ダイヤモンドアンビルセル回折計、高温高圧プレス装置の3つについて、装置の概要と代表的研究例を紹介する。

The permanent densification of silica glass induced by high-pressure treatment attracts wide attention. Previous experimental and theoretical studies showed that the densification is related to transformation in the intermediate-range structure. Our high-pressure high-temperature in-situ x-ray diffraction study showed that the position of the first sharp diffraction peak (FSDP) shifted to higher momentum transfer, Q, as the temperature increased in a specific region in the pressure-temperature plane. The shift to higher Q indicates that the characteristic distance in real space was reduced. In order to clarify the relation beween the FSDP position and the density, we measured size of a silica glass sample as a function of temperature at 9.5 GPa by x-ray absorption method. In spite of heating, the glass rod shrank continuously up to 773 K. Above 773 K, the length became almost constant. We have developed an in situ gas‐loading sample holder for synchrotron X‐ray total scattering experiments, particularly for hydrogen storage materials, designed to collect diffraction and pair distribution function (PDF) data under pressurized hydrogen gas. A polyimide capillary with a diameter and thickness of 1.4 and 0.06 mm, respectively, connected with commercially available fittings was used as an in situ sample holder. Gas-leakage tests confirmed that this sample holder allows 3 MPa of hydrogen gas pressure and 393 K to be achieved without leakage. Using the developed in situ sample holder, significant background and Bragg peaks from the sample holder were not observed in the X‐ray total scattering patterns and their signal‐to‐noise ratios were sufficiently good. The results of Rietveld and PDF refinements of Ni powder are consistent with those obtained using a polyimide capillary (1.0 mm diameter and 0.04 mm thickness) that has been used for ex situ experiments. In addition, in situ synchrotron X‐ray total scattering experiments under pressurized hydrogen gas up to 1 MPa were successfully demonstrated for LaNi4.6Cu.

水の構造の温度変化を調べるため、高温高圧下での水のX線回折実験を行った。温度1273Kで、常温常圧の水とほぼ同じとなる条件での測定に成功した。温度1273Kでの水の構造は、常温常圧とは大きく異なるが、673Kでの構造からの変化は小さいことが明らかになった。

物質の局所構造を探る手段の一つとして、原子核によるγ線共鳴吸収スペクトルから原子核を取り巻く電子状態を探るメスバウアー分光が知られている。大型放射光施設SPring-8の量子科学技術研究開発機構の専用ビームラインでは、高輝度放射光を用いることにより、最も需要の高い57Feの測定において、通常の放射性同位体線源の10万倍以上も高輝度な放射光メスバウアーγ線を用いた計測を実施できる。本手法をスピントロニクス材料への応用が期待される薄膜の磁性観察に適用するための装置開発、ならびに研究例を紹介する。, 2019年度微細構造解析プラットフォームシンポジウム

高温高圧法は新規水素化物を合成する強力な手法である。QST専用ビームラインに設置されいてる高温高圧プレス装置を用いた放射光その場観察手法を用いると、温度圧力を制御しながら水素化反応を直接見ることが可能になるため、合成条件を効率的に調べることができる。本手法と、理論計算による予想を組み合わせることで、近年、多数の新規水素化物が発見されている。本講演では、QSTビームラインの装置および代表的な研究例を紹介する。, 京大・JAEA・QST微細構造解析プラットフォーム合同地域セミナー出席・発表
