2. Characterization of Japan's DEMO Candidate Reinforced Nb3Sn Wires Under Crossover Contact Stress

Abstract

The size of Japan's demonstration power plant (JA DEMO) reactor is planned to be approximately 1.4 times larger than that of ITER magnet. Mechanical behavior and the reinforcement of the Nb3Sn strands under a complex distribution of electromagnetic force in the cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) are of great concern. In this study, an experimental setup for Ic measurement under crossover contact stress in external magnetic fields, which is regarded as more realistic situation in CICC, was constructed. Then, we studied superconducting properties and microstructures of JA DEMO candidate reinforced Nb3Sn wires under crossover contact stress. CuNb-reinforced bronze-route Nb3Sn wires made by Furukawa Electric and distributed-tin (DT) Nb3Sn wires reinforced with brass matrix made by Kobe Steel were tested. The reinforced wires have shown better Ic properties against contact stress, compared with conventional Cu matrix wires. Under contact stress, the outer copper sheath was predominantly deformed, which is believed to contribute to relaxation of the stress concentration. The brass matrix seems to be significantly effective in suppressing distortion in the filament region. The use of reinforced Nb3Sn wires increases the reliability of the TF magnet operation.

4. Metallographic and Bending Strain Property Analysis of Reinforced Nb3Sn Strand Candidates for Japanese DEMO

Abstract

The influence of a large electromagnetic force on the conductor of a demonstration power plant (DEMO) reactor magnet is a crucial issue. The present study summarizes the metallographic and bending strain property analysis of DEMO-candidate reinforced Nb3Sn wires in Japan. Here, EBSD strain analysis was used as a new microscopic method to evaluate the material properties of Nb3Sn wire components. Two reinforcement options have been considered: (1) the use of a brass matrix for distributed-tin (DT) wire (made by Kobe Steel) and (2) the use of CuNb reinforcement in the outer sheath of a bronze-route Nb3Sn wire (made by Furukawa Electric). Both the reinforced wires exhibit better stress tolerance against bending load because of their higher mechanical strength than Cu. The high elasticity of the brass matrix of the DT wire and the CuNb area in the bronze-route Nb3Sn wire have been confirmed through electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) strain analysis. The results strongly support the use of reinforced Nb3Sn wires to maintain their high Ic performance in Japan's DEMO designed with a larger operating current and higher magnetic field than International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).

Abstract

重症心身障害者に対する適切な歯科的健康管理の確立を目的とし,国立療養所に入院中の重症心身障害者140名について,歯科的管理を5年間にわたって行った後の翻蝕と歯周疾患について調査を行った.1.全面介助による1日2回のブラッシングが習慣化されていた.介助する時の職員のブラッシング方法は,64.3%が横磨きであった.2.介助によるブラッシングにおおむね適応している者は85.0%であった.しかし2.1%の者は,ひどく嫌がって前歯も磨かせなかった.3.平均OHI-Sは1.53で,部位別に清掃状態をみると,上顎前歯部唇面が最も良く,下顎左側臼歯部舌面が最も不良であった.4.1人平均DMF歯数は,12.51歯,DMF歯率48.2%であった.そのうち1人平均の未処置齲蝕歯は,2.07歯であり,歯科治療体制を含む歯科的健康管理の確立によって,齲蝕の問題はほぼ解決できていると思われた.5.歯肉増殖・肥大は,19.3%の者に認められた.そのうちフェニトイン服用者の歯肉増殖発現率は,38.5%であった.6.限局型歯肉退縮は,10.7%の者に認められ,下顎前歯部唇側歯肉に最も多く,介助者の横磨きとの関連が示唆された.7.歯周治療の要求度(CPITN)をみると,全く歯周治療の必要のない者は10.8%で,なんらかの治療が必要となる者は89.2%であった.
