Abstract

The high proportion of renewable energy integration to industrial parks has become the main way for energy-intensive industrial loads to achieve low-carbon transition. The sharp and frequent power fluctuation of tie-line is the key problem of low-carbon transition for industrial parks. Therefore, an industrial park tie-line power smoothing strategy considering production safety is proposed. First, the control model of the production equipment for electrolytic aluminum and arc furnace is analyzed, the power closed-loop feedback control model of industrial load is established based on power fluctuation feedback. Then, considering the core influencing factors of industrial production, the state of temperature with energy-intensive equipment is established, a control cost model for demand response is formed, and the control objective to each industrial load is assigned based on the optimization objective for the minimum penalty cost. Finally, the MATLAB online calculation and RTDS simulation real-time interactive example is established based on Wenshan power grid in Yunnan Province. The simulation results show that the smelting temperature is updated adaptively, the influence of power regulation on production is reduced effectively, and the economic cost of tie-line is reduced by 36.4%.

Abstract

The penetration of distributed renewable energy (DRE) greatly raises the risk of distribution network operation such as peak shaving and voltage stability. Battery energy storage (BES) has been widely accepted as the most potential application to cope with the challenge of high penetration of DRE. To cope with the uncertainties and variability of DRE, a stochastic day-ahead dynamic optimal power flow (DOPF) and its algorithm are proposed. The overall economy is achieved by fully considering the DRE, BES, electricity purchasing and active power losses. The rainflow algorithm-based cycle counting method of BES is incorporated in the DOPF model to capture the cell degradation, greatly extending the expected BES lifetime and achieving a better economy. DRE scenarios are generated to consider the uncertainties and correlations based on the Copula theory. To solve the DOPF model, we propose a Lagrange relaxation-based algorithm, which has a significantly reduced complexity with respect to the existing techniques. For this reason, the proposed algorithm enables much more scenarios incorporated in the DOPF model and better captures the DRE uncertainties and correlations. Finally, numerical studies for the day-ahead DOPF in the IEEE 123-node test feeder are presented to demonstrate the merits of the proposed method. Results show that the actual BES life expectancy of the proposed model has increased to 4.89 times compared with the traditional ones. The problems caused by DRE are greatly alleviated by fully capturing the uncertainties and correlations with the proposed method.

26. High-Dimensional Feature Selection for Power System Congestion Event Prognosis With Enhanced Evolutionary Computation

Abstract

Power system congestion event prognosis (CEP) based on multivariate time series (MTS) learning is an effective way to improve the warning abilities against risky situations. However, it is still challenging to decide which measurement sequences of system variables should be selected to train MTS learning-based CEPs models, especially when facing high-dimensional candidate features from power systems. Focusing on this issue, this paper proposes a novel high-dimensional feature selection (FS) method to identify and select variables that contain beneficial data patterns for the prognosis of network congestion events. A wrapper framework embedded with multiple MTS learning models is first built to treat FS as a combinatorial optimization task and receive MTS as inputs directly without sequence compressions. Then, to improve the combinatorial optimization efficiency and FS results in the high-dimensional case, a hybrid structure called enhanced evolutionary computation (EEC) is developed by combining with information theory-based feature priority scores, which play the role of semi-guidance in the iterative search. Test results on both the real-world and synthetic datasets validate the effectiveness of the developed EEC structure and show that the selected features by the proposed FS method are more beneficial in identifying the early patterns of network congestion events, thus contributing to efficient and accurate CEP for power systems.

Abstract

As the penetration of distributed photovoltaic (PV) in the distribution network continues to increase, the problem of voltage violation is becoming increasingly prominent. PV output has strong volatility and uncertainty, leading to higher requirements on speed and accuracy of voltage control. The voltage qualification rate of the distribution network with PV is difficult to guarantee if relying on traditional measuring installation and discrete regulators. Thus, it is necessary to introduce high‐frequency sampling devices and various continuous regulators in real‐time voltage control. In this paper, a fast voltage control strategy by real‐time coordination of dynamic voltage regulators (DVRs) and PV inverters based on phasor measurement units (PMU) and remote terminal unit (RTU) information is proposed. The voltage sensitivity is calculated online based on the fast measurement information of PMU. The equivalent models of rapid voltage regulators including DVR and PV inverter are established for the online extraction of voltage optimal control gradients. According to the model predictive control (MPC) theory, a feeder‐level global voltage control strategy is proposed comprehensively considering the objectives of voltage qualification rate, control cost, and network loss, which can realize real‐time voltage control in the distribution network at the millisecond scale. The effectiveness and rapidity of the proposed global voltage control strategy are verified in the IEEE 33‐bus system and a real representative distribution system for preventing voltage violation. Abstract

Distributed photovoltaic could not respond to frequency deviation, and the photovoltaic modules, connected to the grid through the inverter, are non-rotating static component, which means that it does not have the rotary inertia of the synchronous generator. When distributed photovoltaic is connected to the grid in a dense manner, it will reduce the system inertia. Under the same boundary conditions, the system frequency may drop even lower. To solve this problem, this paper proposes to add energy storage system on the DC side to satisfy the frequency regulation requirements. By adopting the virtual synchronous generator control strategy, the solar photovoltaic-energy storage hybrid system is equivalent to a voltage source on the DC side. And it has similar characteristics to the synchronous generator on the AC side. This improves the stability of the external output power of photovoltaic, and also enables the distributed photovoltaic to respond to frequency deviation. the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified in MATLAB/Simulink.
