Introduction: the analysis of the health situation is a useful methodological scientific instrument to identify, prioritize and solve the health problems of the community. Objective: to describe the analysis of the health situation carried at # 18 Family-Doctor Office belonging to the health area of Guillermo Tejas Teaching Polyclinic during the period from September 2017 to January 2018. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample of the research was comprised of 432 patients, distributed in 160 families according to age, group and sex. Clinical and epidemiological variables indicated for this type of analysis were recorded. Results: 55,5 % of patients belonged to the female sex and 31,4 % to the group of 35-59 years. People with chronic diseases prevailed by 36,8 %. The environmental risk factor prevailed in 100 % of the population. Dental caries predominated in 44,4 % of cases. The teeth decayed, lost and clogged. (CPO-D) of pregnant women and mothers with children under one year of age was 3,2 and 3,3 respectively; 20 % of pregnant women presented periodontal disease as well as 25 % mothers having children under 1 year. Conclusions: the analysis of the health situation was conducted; female population and ages from 35 to 59 predominated. The sick population with caries and the environmental risk factors prevailed. The main problems identified were dental caries, masticatory dysfunction and periodontal diseases.

Introducción: el acelerado desarrollo tecnológico actual ha permitido el surgimiento de las Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones, las cuales han influido marcadamente en diversas esferas de la sociedad, incluida la salud, donde van a tener implicaciones en el proceso de enseñanza. Objetivo: confeccionar un Sitio Web que relaciona la Medicina y la Estomatología desde el punto de vista de la atención integral al paciente, como fuente bibliográfica para estudiantes de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Las Tunas. Métodos: se realizó una investigación de desarrollo tecnológico en la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de Las Tunas, de octubre de 2015 a abril de 2016. Se utilizaron como herramientas los programas Wordpress 4.3, Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010. Para el diagnóstico de necesidades de aprendizaje se tuvo una población de 550 estudiantes (Medicina y Estomatología). Para la valoración se tuvo en cuenta el criterio de 5 especialistas en Medicina, Estomatología e Informática. Se trabajó con una muestra de 40 estudiantes de ambas carreras, donde se midió el nivel del conocimiento sobre la temática a través de la aplicación de una encuesta antes y después de utilizar el producto. Resultados: predominó un bajo nivel del conocimiento en las variables estudiadas durante el diagnóstico de necesidades. Las valoraciones del producto por los especialistas y los usuarios fueron positivas. Se obtuvo un cambio significativo del nivel de conocimiento en los usuarios durante su comprobación. Conclusiones: se confeccionó un Sitio Web que relaciona la Medicina y la Estomatología desde el punto de vista de la atención integral al paciente, como fuente bibliográfica para estudiantes de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Las Tunas. Fue valorado de acuerdo a la opinión de especialistas y usuarios demostrando su efectividad a través de la puesta en práctica.

Introduction: It is very important to research into the reasons why students choose a career in Dentistry; however, current Cuban studies on this topic are scarce. This study aims to characterize the motivations for studying Dentistry and to identify the associated factors in Cuban students. Material and Methods: A total of 1324 students from nine Cuban universities participated in this cross-sectional, analytic, observational, multicenter and questionnaire-based study. The “Dental Motivation Scale”, a validated test, was used to measure social, altruistic, economic, and prestige motivators. For statistical analysis, frequencies and percentages were described, and generalized linear models were used to establish statistical associations. Results: Sixty six percent of the surveyed students were female and the mean age was 21.2. The students were more motivated to major in Dentistry by their desire to study for constant progress (57%) as well as the possibility of being able to help others (50%). Those who had relatives that were dentists had a lower social/altruistic motivation (studying for constant progress; p=0.004).
