Previously, we concluded that a mother's rocking motion is the most effective motion for inducing sleep in adults. We call it the candidate rocking motion. In this study, we confirm that the candidate rocking motion is more effective in inducing sleep than using no rocking motion. Moreover, we find that different to aromatherapy, the effectiveness of the candidate rocking motion varies only slightly between individuals. We conclude that the candidate rocking motion is effective for inducing sleep in adults.

Doping with the optimum concentration of carriers (electrons or holes) can modify the physical properties of materials. Therefore, improved ways to achieve carrier doping have been pursued extensively for more than 50 years. Metal-intercalation is one of the most important techniques for electron doping of organic / inorganic solids and has produced superconductors from insulators and metallic solids. The most successful examples are metal-intercalated graphite and C60 superconductors. Metal intercalation has been performed using solid-reaction and liquid solvent techniques. However, precise control of the quantity of intercalants in the target solids can be difficult to achieve using these methods, as that quantity depends largely on the initial conditions. Here we report an electrochemical method for metal-intercalation and demonstrate the preparation of superconductors using organic and inorganic materials (C60 and FeSe). The metal atoms are effectively intercalated into the spaces in C60 and FeSe solids by supplying an electric current between electrodes in a solvent that includes electrolytes. The recorded superconducting transition temperatures, Tc’s, were the same as those of metal-intercalated C60 and FeSe prepared using solid-reaction or liquid solvent techniques. This technique may open a new avenue in the search for organic / inorganic superconductors.

Recently, the number of people who suffer from a high level of stress has increased. Too much stress may cause various physical and/or mental disorders. Moreover, sleep disorders are increasing in modern society. The aim of our project is to develop a relaxation machine for reducing stress and inducing sleep by using a rocking vibration simulating a mother's embrace and rocking motion of her baby. First, we analyzed a mother's embrace and rocking motion using a 3D motion capture system, and we evaluated the sleep-inducing effect on adults by using an excitation apparatus simulating the mother's motions.We found from the experimental analysis that there are two types of motions, both consisting of linear motion and rotational motion. The effectiveness of the rocking motion for inducing sleep was verified from brain signal analysis.

We investigated the most effective rocking motion for inducing sleep in adults. We prepared ten types of rocking motions, including two types of mother’s rocking motions. The sleep-inducing effect of all the rocking motions was evaluated using Thurstone’s paired comparison method (Case V). From statistical analysis of the subjective experimental results we found that, of the ten types of rocking motions, the linear motion component of a mother’s rocking motions (Type 2) was the most effective for inducing sleep in adults.

The microstructure and plastic deformation behavior in Ti-62.5at.%Al single crystals were investigated focusing on effect of the formation of h- and r-AI2Ti precipitates. Crystal structure, morphology and volume fraction of the precipitates depended strongly on the annealing temperature. The r-A12Ti phase precipitated as a plate in the Li0 matrix containing A15Ti3 superstructure below 1200°C, while the h-Al2Ti phase appeared at the higher temperature. The r-A12Ti had six-fold periodicity along the c-axis of the L10 structure and formed a semi-coherent boundary with the matrix maintaining an orientation relationship with {101)r-A12Ti//{101)L10 In contrast, small particles of h-A12Ti with three-fold periodicity along the b-axis were homogeneously distributed in the matrix forming an obscure coherent phase boundary.Yield stress for specimens with a [201] loading axis anomaly increased showing a maximum peak around 800°C and then rapidly decreased. [111] 0 matrix and research-article-Al2Ti precipitates at temperatures below the peak, while slip occurred on (001) above the peak temperature. The anomalous strengthening and the change in operative slip system were discussed focusing on the effect of anisotoropy of APB energy and formation of Al2Ti precipitates.
