An optimization methodology for minimizing total optical interconnect power and specifically apply it to a link, which causes a quantum-well modulator and a transimpedance receiver. The optimization involves two steps where in the first step, the minimum power possible for a given bit rate is obtained and in the second step, the feasibility of the optimal insertion loss/contrast ratio (IL/CR) is examined.
