30. Indicators for assessing progress towards urban freight transport sustainability

Abstract

Today, assessing the sustainability of urban freight transport is crucial to deal with its negative impacts. In this context, many indicators were developed to track the progress of sustainable transport systems. These indicators guarantee communication and facilitate the interaction between private and public actors. However, selecting the appropriate indicator presents a particular challenge because of the large number of the available indicators. This study provides a literature review to discuss the selection of sustainability indicators in the field of transport and focuses on the main methodological choices. Its aims are to identify and to compare the advantages and limitations of selecting approaches. A total 14 studies conducted in the period 2002-2022 are examined. Important methods to select indicators are summarized. The results obtained show that most researchers focused on public transport; as well as a lack of consideration of others sustainability dimensions was highlighted. Then, the most frequently-used methods to select indicators are based on previous literature and properties. A set of recommendations is presented in order to develop future research.

Abstract

International audience; ABSTRACT. The continuous search for flexibility leads companies to implement reconfigurable supply chains. In this article, we focus on the reconfiguration of supply chains through the business processes that compose them. We propose an approach of reconfiguration based on an integrated QFD (Quality Function Deployment)/AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model that allows to determine the processes, activities, roles and actors that require reconfigurations. Our aims is to determine the appropriate reconfiguration scenario and the process that should be reconfigured as a priority.; La recherche perpétuelle de flexibilité conduit les entreprises à mettre en place des chaînes logistiques reconfigurables. Dans cet article, nous nous intéressons à la reconfiguration des chaînes logistiques à travers les processus métiers qui les composent. Nous proposons une approche de reconfiguration basée sur un modèle intégré QFD (Quality Function Deployment)/AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) qui permet de déterminer les processus, les activités, les rôles et les acteurs qui nécessitent des reconfigurations. Cette approche a pour but de déterminer le scénario de reconfiguration le plus approprié ainsi que le processus qui doit être reconfiguré en priorité.

Abstract

With increasing consumer demand for a greater variety of products in changing and unpredictable quantities. Manufacturing different products tailored to the needs of their clients is a real challenge that industries face today. Today's consumers are looking for products that carry part of their identity and allow them to stand out from the crowd. In this context many indicators have been proposed to evaluate the reactivity and flexibility of a production system; such as customization, scalability and convertibility of the system. Customization is one aspect of flexibility; it expresses a system's ability to produce customized products with customized functionality. This document develops a measure of customization of reconfigurable production systems. These measures do not only impact the production system but also the product design and the process design, which can therefore serve as a guide for the customization of manufactured products. Abstract

International audience; This paper suggests a proactive approach in the selection of transportation management systems (TMS). The idea is to perform a two directional benchmark analysis, where the company shall in the first step benchmark its business requirements to the market solutions. In the second step it shall assess its maturity level of its transportation management organization and business processes to determine the priorities of its optimization plans. This essential step will help the company to target precisely the requirements of its future TMS. This approach was applied to a major European airline company, from starting with the essential and necessary steps to get from the identification of the need for a TMS to the pre-selection of vendors and recommendation on how to proceed on the project to enhance maximal collaboration in transportation management.
