Guidelines recommend retinoids as a first-line treatment for mild-to-moderate acne. However, dermocosmetics in adjunct could potentially improve efficacy and tolerability. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness and safety of a dermocosmetic cream containing salicylic acid, lipohydroxy acid, niacinamide, Aqua posae filiformis, procerad and zinc salt in the treatment of mild-to-moderate acne vulgaris in adjunct to different regimens of adapalene compared to adapalene only.Patients and Methods: This randomized, controlled, parallel-group, evaluator-blind study was conducted over 8 weeks on male and female acne subjects at five teaching hospitals in Indonesia. A total of 291 participants were enrolled and divided into three treatment groups: Group A adapalene 0.1% cream nightly – Group B dermocosmetic cream daily + adapalene 0.1% cream every two nights – Group C dermocosmetic cream daily + adapalene 0.1% cream nightly. Clinical evaluations of treatment included scoring on Global Evaluation of Acne (GEA) scale, lesion count (Indonesian Acne Expert Meeting scale), treatment tolerability and treatment satisfaction. Evaluations were performed on Day 28 and Day 56 of treatment.Results: After 28 and 56 days of treatment, all groups exhibited improvements across the various measures. Data analysis, utilizing Anova for repeated measurements, revealed a statistically significant difference between Groups C and A for reduction of GEA scores (p = 0.038) in favor of Group C. On Day 56, percentages of subjects with GEA Scale improvements of at least 1 grade in comparison with baseline were in Group C (61.7%) followed by Group A (47.9%) and Group B (45.3%). Better treatment tolerance and satisfaction scores were noted in Groups B and C.Conclusion: Combination of the dermocosmetic cream with adapalene showed higher efficacy, tolerability and satisfaction in comparison to adapalene alone.Keywords: mild and moderate acne vulgaris, adjunct to Adapalene, dermocosmetic cream

Classically, emollients maintaining a healthy microbiome are recommended as the basis of any AD severity management.Objective: To assess the benefit of a light balm containing vitamin E, tocopherol and glycerine and enriched with Aqua posae filiformis and microresyl (Emollient+) in subjects with mild AD over a period of 168 days.Materials and Methods: For this open-label study, subjects above 3 years of age with mild and stable AD for at least 6 months before inclusion and with a SCORAD score of < 25 were eligible. Assessments took place at baseline, D14, D28, D84 and D168, and included SCORAD, flare frequency, severity of clinical signs and symptoms, skin hydration status using a Corneometer and local tolerance. QoL was assessed using the DLQI or CDLQI questionnaire. Subjects used Emollient+ at least once daily.Results: Overall, 56 subjects were included in this study. The mean age was 25.0± 20.0 years (45% children); 69.6% were females. Except for erythema in the paediatric population, all clinical parameters had significantly (all p < 0.05) improved at D28. At D168, SCORAD, signs and symptoms had significantly (all p < 0.05) improved in the global, adult and paediatric population at D168 compared to baseline. So did flares, skin hydration and QoL. The regimen was very well tolerated.Conclusion: Emollient+ is highly beneficial and well tolerated in mild AD with early benefits in improving AD signs and symptoms and skin hydration as well as the QoL of subjects as soon as D28.Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT05783453.Keywords: atopic dermatitis, emollients, long term use

In this work, the preventive benefit of a dermocosmetic, M89PF, containing Vichy mineralising water, probiotic fractions, antioxidant vitamins and hyaluronic acid, in the alteration of skin physical barrier and skin defence functions after exposure to O3 and UV, alone or combined, was assessed.Methods: Untreated and treated (M89PF) skin explants were exposed to O3, to UV rays or to O3+UV. Immunofluorescence was performed for skin barrier, oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers after one and four days of exposure to the pollutants.Results: M89PF significantly (p≤ 0.05) prevented the decrease of the expression level of different skin barrier markers, and significantly (p≤ 0.05) prevented the induction of OxInflammatory markers and inflammasome components by UV, O3, or both combined.Conclusion: M89PF prevents skin barrier damage, as well as oxidative stress and inflammatory markers induced by exposome factors, such as UV, O3, or both combined.Keywords: ultraviolet radiation, ozone, skin barrier, oxidative stress, inflammation

A dermocosmetic (DC) was developed to restore the natural skin barrier, to reduce skin inflammation and to improve sensitive skin in ACD.Objective: To assess the benefit of a DC in subjects with an allergic background and intolerance to cosmetic care, or with sensitive skin.Materials and Methods: In this open-label study, 107 subjects above 16 years of age applied DC on the face twice a day for 28 days. Assessments at Days 0, 14 and 28, included skin sensitivity, stinging test, local tolerance, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin hydration, inflammatory biomarkers (IL-1α, IL-1RA, PGE2) using tape stripping and subject satisfaction.Results: 88% were women and mean age was 42.0± 15.0 years. Skin sensitivity at inclusion scored 5.9± 0.35; 46% had ACD, 95% skin irritation, 92% sensitive skin and 88% intolerance to cosmetics. A significant (p< 0.0001) 85% decrease of frequency and intensity of the composite score was observed at both endpoints. Stinging scores significantly (p< 0.0001) decreased from 3.9 at baseline to 2.4 at Day 14 and 1.4 at Day 28; 77% and 81% of subjects reported improved skin reactivity at Day 14 and Day 28, respectively. Similar improvements were noted in the frequency and intensity of irritation, erythema, stinging, burning and discomfort. TEWL, skin hydration and inflammatory biomarker levels significantly (p< 0.0001) improved. Overall subject satisfaction (85%) and tolerance (investigators: 99%, subjects: 97%) were high.Conclusion: DC significantly reduced the frequency and intensity of facial skin intolerability and sensitivity in subjects with skin intolerant to skin care products.Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT05487937.Keywords: dermocosmetic, allergic prone skin, sensitive skin

However, patient adherence can be impaired by local tolerability in the first 1– 2 weeks of treatment. Mineral 89 Probiotic Fractions® (M89PF) containing Vichy volcanic mineralizing water®, probiotic fractions, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and tocopherol was developed to fulfill the need for adjunctive products that can reinforce skin barrier and manage retinoid induced irritation.Patients and Methods: The study included 38 women, aged 44– 60 years, phototype II–VI, applying 0.025% tretinoin gel once nightly for 84 days. For 28 days, one hemi face was treated with M89PF and sunscreen SPF 50+ while other hemi face received sunscreen only. Then, M89PF application was changed to full face. Evaluations were performed at days 0, 7, 28 and 84. Erythema, dryness, fine lines, skin tone, radiance and pore appearance were assessed by a dermatologist. Tolerability was evaluated through self-assessment questionnaire. Skin hydration levels, inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers were analyzed by immunological assay: Interleukin(IL)-8, IL1-alpha, IL1-Receptor Antagonist (IL-1Ra), Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), Catalase and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD).Results: Hemiface analysis showed that erythema, fine lines, skin tone, radiance, pore appearance, hydration, tightness, dryness, burning, itching and stinging sensations were improved (p< 0.05) on the M89PF side. At full face analysis on D84, erythema, fine lines, skin tone, radiance and pore appearance were improved compared to D0 (p< 0.001). Tightness, dryness, burning, itching and stinging were reduced when compared to D7 (p< 0.05). Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Skindex 16 showed improvement in quality of life (p< 0.05). IL-1RA increased at D28 (p=0.003) and PGE2 decreased at D28 and D84 compared to D0 (p< 0.01).Conclusion: M89PF reduced retinoid induced irritation with a good tolerability profile and, used as an adjunct to topical tretinoin, significantly improved skin hydration, erythema, fine lines, skin tone, radiance and pore appearance.Keywords: skin barrier, irritation, Vichy volcanic mineralizing water®, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, tocopherol

M89PF containing Vichy mineralizing water, probiotic fractions, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and tocopherol repairs the skin barrier and reinforces skin defences against exposome factors. This study assessed the benefit of M89PF in subjects with rosacea associated with erythema and sensitive skin during the Covid-19 pandemic using protective face masks.Methods: M89PF was compared to usual skin care in a randomized, split-face study, for 30 days in subjects with rosacea associated with erythema and sensitive skin. Clinical evaluations included erythema, desquamation, skin tightness, dryness, burning sensation, itching, stinging, stinging test, and local tolerability. Instrument evaluations included erythema, skin hydration and TEWL. Subject satisfaction was also assessed.Results: Erythema significantly improved with M89PF at both time points (p< 0.01 at D15, and p< 0.001 at D30). Skin sensitivity assessed by the skin stinging test improved significantly (p< 0.01) with M89PF at D30, compared to baseline and usual skin care. Skin erythema, tightness, dryness, hydration and TEWL significantly improved (p≤ 0.05) with M89PF at D15 and D30, versus baseline and the untreated side. Subjects were highly satisfied with M89PF at D15 and D30. Tolerance was very good in all subjects.Conclusion: In subjects with rosacea, M89PF significantly reduces erythema, skin tightness, dryness and TEWL, and improves skin hydration and skin sensitivity, even when using protective masks. The aim of this open survey was (i) to assess the prevalence and identify causing factors of hand issues encountered by hairdressers and (ii) to assess the benefit of a cosmetic skin care in clinical signs and symptoms through a clinical observational survey.Methods: The survey was conducted among 391 hairdressers and hairdresser-related professionals, collecting information on frequency of daily procedures, frequency/type/severity of hand issues, and glove usage. The satisfaction provided by a dermocosmetic containing niacinamide, glycerin, shea butter and thermal spring water was examined in an evaluation visit one month after survey initiation.Results: Investigated subjects were mostly hairdressers (73%). In their daily procedures, a majority (≥ 76%) always or often used shampoos, hair dyes, oxidants, bleachers, straighteners and perms. Overall, a majority (> 60%) of subjects always or often had hand irritation due to this use (except for straighteners). Most subjects (≥ 60%) reported using gloves in their procedures except with shampoos and straighteners. Among hand problems reported at survey initiation, the most intense was skin dryness, followed by redness, irritation, cracks, and fissures. Hand problems induced annoyance in their activities for most subjects (> 65%), leading to discontinuation of their professional activities for 28% subjects. The test dermocosmetic was applied for 1 week up to 1 month. At evaluation visit (1 month), the intensity of all hand signs and symptoms was decreased compared to initiation visit. In addition, 58.3% subjects reported return to professional activities instantly at evaluation visit versus 31.3% at initial visit. Most subjects (≥ 73%) were satisfied or very satisfied with the test cream properties.Conclusion: Our survey confirms the impact of hand issues experienced by hairdresser professionals and highlights the need for gloves and for efficient hand care products.Keywords: hand eczema, daily procedures, activity discontinuation, protective measures

Approximately 50% of subjects with facial acne also have acne of the trunk. This study investigated the clinical benefit of a cleansing gel containing salicylic acid 2%, zinc gluconate 0.2% and lipohydroxy acid 0.05% in truncal acne after 84 days of daily use.Materials and Methods: A single center, open label, non-randomized study with 51 subjects with mild to moderate truncal acne was conducted. Thirty-five (35) subjects completed the study; mean age was 23 years. Inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions, Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and local tolerance were assessed at baseline, Day 42 and Day 84 and total lesion count was calculated.Results: The total lesion count was significantly reduced (p< 0.05) after 42 days (− 21.5%) and 84 days (− 56.3%). Non-inflammatory lesions were significantly decreased after 84 days (− 64.0%) only, while inflammatory lesions were decreased at Day 42 (− 29.2%), and Day 84 (− 48.2%). A statistically significant skin barrier improvement was observed at Day 84 (− 21.26%). No adverse events or relevant local intolerance were reported.Conclusion: The use of the cleansing gel studied was effective in improving mild to moderate truncal acne and contributed to the skin barrier improvement. As for atopic eczema, restoring the skin barrier of the periocular region together with relieving clinical signs and symptoms is important in the management of EE. This study assessed the benefit and tolerance of a dedicated dermocosmetic (DC) in subjects with EE.Materials and Methods: Open-label study in adults with EE and sensitive skin. The DC was applied twice daily for 28 days. Dermatological signs (eczema, desquamation/dryness, erythema, swelling, roughness) and symptoms (itching, prickling, heat/burning sensation, tightness) on the periorbital region, as well as ophthalmological evaluation were assessed at Day 0, 14 and 28. Subjects assessed quality of life (QOL) using DLQI, the perceived benefit and cosmetic acceptability of the DC.Results: Overall, 41 subjects were included; 59% were women. The mean age was 52.4± 15.8 years; all subjects had periorbital sensitive skin. The DC immediately reduced the intensity of itching, prickling, heat/burning sensation and tightness. Clinical signs and symptoms had all significantly (p< 0.001) improved by Day 14 and were sustained to Day 28. The DC significantly (p< 0.001) improved the perception of irritation (73%) and swelling (66%) while soothing (59%) the periorbital skin regions at Day 28. QOL had improved at Day 28 (0.82± 1.0) compared to Day 0 (4.17± 2.23). No local adverse reactions were reported. M89 contains 89% Vichy volcanic mineralizing water (VVMW) and 0.4% hyaluronic acid. It is hypoallergenic and contains no perfume and this convenes in rosacea. Contained minerals reinforce the natural defences of the skin in restoring the natural skin barrier, stimulating antioxidant activity and reducing inflammation, commonly observed in subjects with rosacea. Clinical evaluations included assessment of erythema, desquamation, papules and pustules, skin tightness, dryness, burning sensation, itching, stinging and stinging test as well as local tolerability. Instrumental evaluations included skin hydration and TEWL. Subject satisfaction was assessed at Days 15 and 30. Demodex density was assessed at Day 30.Results: A significant superiority of M89 over the standard skin care was observed for erythema, skin tightness and dryness (all P≤ 0.05) as early as Day 15, the skin stinging test was significantly in favour of M89 (P< 0.05 at Day 15 and P< 0.01 at Day 30) and for skin hydration (P< 0.0001) at Day 15 and 30 with no difference in mean Demodex density between M89 and usual skin care after 30 days. Tolerance was excellent and subject satisfaction very high.Conclusion: Study results concerning M89 are encouraging for its use either alone or as an adjuvant daily skin care to topical medication in patients with persistent centrofacial erythema of rosacea with no more than 3 papules and pustules.Keywords: rosacea, sensitive skin, Vichy volcanic mineralizing water, M89, split face

Investigators collected data regarding demographics, QOL using the Skindex-16 scale, skin dryness and tautness, subject and investigator satisfaction, cosmetic acceptability and tolerance at baseline and after 4 to 6 weeks of daily use.Results: A total of 1840 subjects participated; the mean age was 31.5± 11.1 and 95% were women. Acne accounted for 48.9% of skin conditions, followed by melasma (16.7%) and rosacea (15.3%). Of the subjects 81.2% had at least 10% of the face affected and the condition was rated as disfiguring by 45.3% of the subjects; 45.0% and 44.4%, respectively, had neither taut nor dry skin at baseline. Baseline Skindex-16 scores for symptoms, emotions, functioning and overall were 1.4± 1.3, 3.5± 1.6, 2.4± 1.8 and 2.4± 1.3, respectively, on a scale from 0 to 6. Compliance was 96.0± 10.6%. At the end of the study, Skindex-16 scores had significantly (p< 0.0001) improved for all parameters, as did skin dryness and tautness. Subject and investigator satisfaction were high or very high; cosmetic acceptability was high or very high and local tolerance good or very good.Conclusion: The tested corrective cosmetic significantly improved the QOL of subjects with significant facial flaws, skin tautness and dryness, and was well tolerated.Keywords: corrective cosmetic, dermatoses, quality of life, SKINDEX-16

The objective of our study was to assess the attitudes and behaviors in Japan regarding sun exposure and compare them to those in Europe and North America. The study population was a representative sample of individuals aged >18 years from Ipsos panels in Japan (N = 1000), North America (N = 1000), and Europe (N = 6000) using the quota method. Questionnaires covered habits, practices, and perceptions regarding sun exposure. Results revealed that the majority of people (80.1%) believed that the sun gives them energy, and 61.1% considered that being tanned made them look healthier. However, there was a significant difference between men and women regarding the appeal of tanned skin, with 54.95% of men versus 34.67% (p < 0.001) of women seeing a tan as an aesthetic asset. People aged <40 years were less likely to find a tan attractive (30.3%) compared to those aged ≥40 years (48.9%) (p < 0.001). Of those questioned, 45.70% of used sunscreen with a much higher use among women (70.10%) than men (18.74%) (p < 0.001). Almost 54% of people said they stayed in the shade to protect themselves from the sun with this behavior being more prevalent among women (67.05%) and fair‐skinned individuals (56.13%). Fear of the risks of sun exposure was more common among women, with 84.8% fearing premature skin aging, compared to 71.8% of men (p < 0.001). In Japan, 44.30% of those questioned said tanned skin was attractive (p < 0.001); for Europeans and North Americans the proportions were 81.1% and 77.6%, respectively. Only a quarter (25.80%) thought it essential to return from vacation with a tan. On the other hand, Europeans showed a strong recognition of the energy the sun brings (83.18%), and widely believed that tanned skin is attractive (82.32%) and healthy (73.15%). In North America, attitudes were similar to those in Europe regarding the attractiveness of tanned skin (77.65%) and the importance of returning tanned from vacation (48.15%). A study published in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology & Venereology examines the effectiveness of sun safety campaigns in France over the past 30 years. The study found that despite the distribution of messages about sun safety, the number of melanomas and carcinomas in France has increased fivefold. The study surveyed 1000 members of the French population and found that while most respondents were aware of the skin problems caused by too much sun exposure, many still associated a tan with good health and attractiveness. The study suggests that prevention messages should be tailored to specific audiences and emphasizes the importance of dermatologists in educating patients about sun protection. This article discusses a survey conducted to assess parents' awareness and efforts to protect their children from overexposure to sunlight. The survey collected data from 17,001 adults worldwide and analyzed their sun-exposure habits, understanding of risks, and information on phototypes. The study found that there are no epidemiological data suggesting a decrease in excessive exposure of children to sunlight. The article provides detailed demographic information by geographical zone. A study found that a majority of parents regret not protecting themselves enough from sunlight and overexposing themselves. Women were more likely to express regret than men. When it came to protecting their children from the sun, parents with regrets were more likely to follow public healthcare recommendations compared to those without regrets. Compliance with preventive measures improved for wearing glasses and a cap, but not for wearing sunglasses. Parents without regrets had a slightly higher prevalence of improvement, possibly because they were less likely to comply with preventive measures. A worldwide survey conducted on the use of preventive measures against sun exposure in children found that parents who regretted their own excessive sun exposure during childhood were more likely to take preventive measures for their own children. However, the survey also revealed that preventive care measures increased awareness among parents who did not express regrets about their own sun exposure. The study emphasized the importance of educating parents about the risks of sun exposure and promoting sun protection behaviors for both skin and eyes to prevent UV-induced eye disorders, skin cancers, and premature aging.
