In this study, we fabricate a metal- and vacuum-free electrode composed of aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as top electrode in inverted type polymer solar cells. Simply drawn MWCNT sheets from vertically grown arrays were directly transferred over the top layer (PEDOT:PSS) of the device as an anode material. Without any post treatment, devices exhibited a short-circuit current density (J(sc)) of 7.53 mA cm(-2), which is 78% of that of devices employing a thermally deposited silver-based anode (J(sc) = 9.69 mA cm(-2)). Scanning electron microscopy images of the device (top and cross-sectional views) show the successful incorporation of MWCNT sheets over the surface of the device without any damage. The thickness of the MWCNT sheets as top electrode is also investigated, and it has been demonstrated that when the sheets' thickness increased, the conductance of the electrode increased, which showed improvement for the device performance. The attributes of being flexible, vacuum-free, and stable with regard to environmental factors may lead this idea to become a versatile approach toward cost-effective roll-to-roll production of environmentally friendly polymer solar cells.

Highly aligned multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) as fiber were modified with a conducting polymer via a simple dip coating method. Modified MWCNT exhibited admirable improvement in electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of tri-iodide in dye sensitized solar cells. Scanning electron microscopy images confirm the successful deposition of polymer on MWCNT. Cyclic voltammetry, square wave voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies were carried out to investigate the inner mechanism for the charge transfer behaviour. Results from bare and modified electrodes revealed that the MWCNT/(poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene): poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) composite electrode is much better at catalysing the I-3(-)/I- redox couple compared to the pristine fiber electrode. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of 5.03% for the modified MWCNT electrodes was comparable with that of the conventional Pt-based electrode. The scientific results of this study reveal that MWCNT/PEDOT: PSS may be a better choice for the replacement of cost intensive electrode materials such as platinum. Good performance even after bending up to 90 degrees and in-series connection to enhance the output voltage were also successfully achieved, highlighting the practical application of this novel device.

Sübstitüentlerin değişmesiyle elde edilen porfirazin ligandları benzer ftalosiyaninlerle kıyaslandığında büyük miktarda organik çözünürlüğünü arttırması gibi yeni birçok özellik sağlar. Sübstitüe olmuş porfirazinlerin sentezi, sübtitüe olmuş maleonitril türevlerinin sentezinden yapılmaktadır. Son yıllarda periferal sübstitüe porfirazinlerle ilgili olarak yapılan geniş çaplı araştırmalar, bu tetrapirol türevlerinin, pek çok uygulama alanı olan ftalosiyaninlere alternatif olacağını malzeme bilimi, tümörlerin fotodinamik terapisi (PDT), pigment ve boyar maddeler alanlarında göstermiştir.Bu çalışmanın amacı, yeni çözünür porfirazin türevlerinin, sübstitüe olmuş başlangıç maddesinin kullanılarak sentezlenmesidir. İlk olarak ferrosenden başlayarak ferrosenasetonitril ve diğer başlangıç maddesi ditiyomaleonitril disodyumtuzu sentezlendi. Ferrosenasetonitril bileşiğinden magnezyum porfirazin elde edilemedi. Daha sonra maleonitril tuzu sırasıyla, 3-bromo-1-fenil-1-propen, N,N-dimetilaminoferrosenmetiliyodür ve hekzilbromür ile reaksiyonu sonucunda üç farklı ligand elde edildi.Sübstitüe olmuş maleonitril türevlerinin magnezyum porfirazine (MgPz) dönüşümü ise magnezyum alkolatın template etkisiyle siklotetramerizasyonu sonucu olmaktadır. Elde edilen ligandlardan 1,2-bis(3-fenil-2-propentiyo)maleonitril ile magnezyum butanolatın template etkisiyle yeni alken gruplar içeren MgPz sentezlenmiştir. Elde edilen MgPz nin IR spektrumunda başlangıç maddesindeki C?N gerilmelerinin porfirazin oluşumu sırasında kaybolduğu gözlendi. UV spektrumunda Q ve B bandları beklenilen yerlerde gözlendi. MgPz nin trifloroasetik asit ile oda sıcaklığındaki reaksiyonu sonucu, metalsiz porfirazin (H2Pz) sentezlendi. Metalli porfirazinlerin (MPz) elde edilmesi için istenilen metal tuzları ile H2Pz nin reaksiyonu ile gerçekleştirilir. H2Pz ve Cu(II), Zn(II) ve Co(II) asetatın etanol-THF karışımında geri soğutucu altında karıştırılarak uygun koşullarda merkezde bulunan protonların metal iyonu ile yer değiştirmesi tepkimesi sonucunda ZnPz, CuPz ve CoPz kompleksleri elde edilmiştir (M= Cu, Zn, Co). H2Pz nin UV spektrumunda Q band absorbsiyonu iki pike yarıldı, sonra MPz de aynı absorbsiyon tek pik olarak gözlendi.Ferrosenasetonitril bileşiği dört basamakla sentezlenmiş, fakat sterik etki gibi bazı nedenlerden dolayı MgPz elde edilememiştir. Sentezlenen diğer maleonitril türevlerinden 1,2-bis(hekziltiyo)maleonitrilin magnezyum butanolat ile siklotetramerizasyonuyla simetrik oktakis(hekziltiyo)porfirazinato magnezyum(II) OHMgPz elde edildi. Ferrosen içeren 1,2-bis(ferrosenilmetiltiyo)maleonitril ile 1,2-bis(hekziltiyo)maleonitrilden oluşan asimetrik porfirazin elde edimesi amacıyla, bulunan en uygun 1:3 mol oranındaki magnezyum butanolat ile siklotetramerizasyonu sonucunda asimetrik AB3MgPz ve metalsiz AB3H2Pz türevleri elde edilmiştir.Elde edilen ligandların ve komplekslerinin yapıları, FT-IR, UV-görünür bölge, 1H NMR, GC-MS, Maldi TOF-MS, TLC ve elementel analiz yöntemleri ile incelenerek karakterize edilmiş ve manyetik özellikleri (EPR) incelenmiştir. Metalin, ferrosen ve halka sübstitüentlerinin porfirazin türevleri üzerindeki etkisini incelemek için Dönüşümlü Voltametri (CV) yöntemi kullanılarak elektrokimyasal özellikleri incelenmiştir. The synthesis of substituted porphyrazines from the corresponding substituted maleo(fumaro)nitrile has recently been reviewed. Intensive research interest in peripherally functionalized porphyrazines during the last decade has shown that these tetrapyrol derivatives should be considered as alternatives to the phthalocyanines that have found extensive applications in material science and the photodynamic therapy of tumors as well as pigments and dyes.The aim of the present work has been to synthesize novel soluble porphyrazine derivatives by making use of substituted maleonitrile starting materials. Firstly ferrocenasetonitril and disodium salt of maleonitrile were synthesized. Then disodium salt of maleonitrile was reacted with 3-bromo-1-phenyl-1-propene, N,N-dimethyl aminoferrocenmethyliodide, and hexzylbromide respectively to produce three different ligands.In order to convert the substituted maleonitrile derivative into porphyrazine, we have made use of its template reaction in the presence of magnesium butanolate, which is the typical method generally applied in cyclotetramerization to these tetrapyrrol derivatives. The dark blue alkene containing Mg porphyrazine was obtained by using ligand of 1,2-bis(3-phenyl-2-propenthio)maleonitrile. The IR spectrum of the obtained MgPz, starting materials? C?N streching vibration disappeared during the prophyrazine formation. In the UV spectrum, Q and B bands are obtained in the expected position. MgPz has been treated with trifluoroacetic acid to obtain 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octakis(3-phenyl-2-propenthio)-21H,23H-porphyrazine. Preparation of the other metallo-porphyrazines (MPz) has been usually realized by the reaction of the corresponding metal salt with the metal-free porphyrazine (H2Pz). Further reaction of this product with zinc(II) acetate, cobalt(II) acetate and copper(II) acetate led to the metal porphyrazine in the mixture of EtOH-THF (MPz, M= Zn, Co, and Cu). In the UV spectrum of the H2Pz, the Q band absorptions are split in two peaks, the same absorptions appear as a single peak in the MPz latter.Another ligand of ferrocenacetonitril was obtained by four steps, but due to some spesific reasons it did not yield porphyrazine. Symmetrical oktakis(hexylthio)porphyrazinato magnezyum(II) OHMgPz have been synthesized through the cyclotetramerization reaction of magnesium butanolate with 1,2-bis(hexylthio)maleonitrile and characterized by IR and UV-vis. Asymmetric AB3MgPz and metal-free AB3H2Pz porphyrazines have been synthesized through the cyclotetramerization reaction of magnesium and n-butanol with 1,2-bis(hexylthio)maleonitrile and 1,2-bis(ferrocenylmethylthio)maleonitrile in a best appropriate ratio of 3:1.Moleculer structure of all metal-free porphyrazine and its metal complexes have been investigated and characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR, GC-MS, MALDI-TOF MS, TLC and elemental analysis methods and magnetic properties (EPR) of some metal complexes have been investigated. To further prope the effect of the metal center, ferrocene and ring substituents on the electrochemical behaviours of porphyrazine derivatives, their electrochemistry was investigated by using cyclic voltrametry (CV) method. 175

ÖZET Tetrapirol türevi olarak tanımlayabileceğimiz tetraazaporfîrinler (TAP), 1952'den sonra kimyamn temel araştırma konularından biri olmaya başlamıştır. Porfirinler ve ftalosiyaninlere göre porfîrazinler elli yıl önce ilk sentez edildikleri tarihten beri daha az incelenen grup olmuştur. Çözünür türevlerinin son zamanlarda etkin bir şekilde sentez edilmesi ile, porrîrazinlerin yapı türevleri önem kazanmaya başladı. Ftalosiyaninlerin ve porrîrazinlerin elektronik karakteri ve geniş 7t sistemi periferal metal koordinasyonu ile birleştirildiği zaman oluşan yeni yapılar, spektroskopik, magnetik ve elektronik özellikleri ile çok metalli komplekslerin geniş bir çeşidinin hazırlanmasını sağlamıştır. Birçok organik solventte ftalosiyaninlere kıyasla daha çözünür özellik gösteren porrîrazinlerin, periferal sübstitüentlerinde yapılacak değişiklikler, bu niteliklerini iyileştirmeyi mümkün kılmaktadır. Periferal sübstitüe porfirazinlerin değişik optik, manyetik ve elektronik özellik sergileme potansiyelleri vardır. Son yıllarda periferal sübstitüe porfirazinlerle ilgili olarak yapılan geniş çaplı araştırmalar, bu tetrapirol türevlerinin, pek çok uygulama alanı olan ftalosiyaninlere alternatif olacağım malzeme bilimi, tümörlerin fotodinamik terapisi, pigment ve boyar maddeler alanlarında göstermiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, periferal pozisyonda 4-tert-butilbenziltiyo grupları bulunduran metalsiz porfirazini sentezleyip, bu molekülden yola çıkarak farklı metalli türevlerini hazırlamaktır. Amaçlanan bileşiği elde etmek için başlangıç maddesi olarak kullanılan ditiyomaleonitril disodyum tuzu karbondisülfür ve NaCN den iki kademede sentezlendi. Daha sonra; ditiyomaleonitril disodyum tuzu ile 4-tert-butilbenzilbromürün alkillendirilmesi sonucu bis(4- tert-butilbenziltiyo)maleonitril elde edilerek, magnezyum alkolat yardımıyla siklotetramerizasyon sonucunda oktakis(4-tert-butilbenziltiyo) porfîrazinato magnezyum (MgPz) sentezlenmiştir. MgPz hegzan, kloroform, DMF, THF iyi çözünmekte metanol, etanol, benzende ise çözünmemektedir. Bis(4-tert-butilbenziltiyo) maleonitrilin İR spektrumunda, karakteristik gerilme titreşimi değerlerinde görülmüş ve elementel analiz sonuçları formülüne çok iyi uyum göstermiştir. Elde edilen MgPz nin ER. spektrumunda, başlangıç maddesine ait C=N gerilme titreşimleri porfirazin oluşumundan sonra kaybolmuştur. *H NMR spektrumunda beklenildiği şekilde kimyasal kaymaları gözlenmiştir. MgPz in metalsiz türevine dönüştürülmesi CF3COOH ile oda sıcaklığında gerçekleştirilerek, diğer metal türevlerinin sentezlenmesinde EfePz başlangıç maddesi olarak kullanılmıştır. Metalsiz porfirazinde merkezde bulunan protonlar metal iyonu ile yer değiştirmesine örnek olarak, H2PZ ve Cu(H), Zn(II) ve Co(II) asetatın etanol + THF kanşımında uzunca bir süre kaynatılması ile ZnPz ve Co asetat ile CoPz hazırlanmıştır. Metalsiz porfirazin ve metalli porfîrazinin elektronik spektrumlan birbirinden oldukça farklı olarak Q bandı FfcPz lerde iki pik verirken MPz lerde aynı absorpsiyonda tek bir pik gözlenmiştir. Elde edilen ligandın ve komplekslerinin yapılan, FT-IR, UV, *H NMR, TLC ve elementel analiz yöntemleri ile incelenmiş ve karakterize edilmiştir. Indeed, peripherally-functionalised porphyrazines have the potential to exhibit novel optical, magnetic and electronic properties. The design of novel substituted tetrapyrrol derivatives closely follows the requirements of their intended applications. Execution of minor changes on the nature and position of side groups or using different metal ions in the inner core can be considered as practical methods of tuning the properties of these materials. Intensive research interest in peripherally functionalized porphyrazines during the last decade has shown that these tetrapyrol derivatives should be considered as alternatives to the phthalocyanines that have found extensive applications in material science and the photodynamic therapy of tumors as well as pigments and dyes. In the present work our aim has been to prepare different metallo porphyrazines which include 4-tert-butylbenzylthio groups. The starting point for all these compounds is sodium salt of dithiomaleonitrile which is obtained in two steps from carbondisulfide and NaCN. After that, this salt was alkylated with 4-tert-butylbenzylbromide and by using template effect of magnesium butanolate and cyclotetramerization; it was converted to MgPz which is soluble in chloroform, DMF, THF, hexane and insoluble in benzene, methanol and ethanol. In the IR spectrum of bis(4-tert-butylbenzylthio)maleonitrile, characteristic stretching vibrations are observed. Elemental analysis results closely follow the values calculated. In the IR spectrum of MgPz, as expected the C=N stretching of the starting material are lacking after Pz formation. In the 'H NMR spectrum of MgPz, chemical shifts for all groups found as expected. In the present case, MgPz has been treated with trifluoroacetic acid to reach metal-free porphyrazine, FfePz by removing Mg ion. Inner core protons can be exchanged with metal ions as examples of divalent metal Pz derivatives, CuPz, CoPz and ZnPz were obtained by the reactions of excess amount of copper(II), cobalt(II) and zinc(II) acetate and H2PZ in THF + ethanol solvent mixture by long time heating. Electronic spectra can be used in order simply to differentiate H2Pz and MPz how while Q band absorptions are split in two peaks at around 600-700 nm in the former, the same absorptions appear as a single peak in the MPz's (Cu, Zn, Co) latter. Molecular structure of metal free porfirazine and its metal complexes have been investigated and characterized by UV, FT-IR, 'H NMR, TLC and elementel analysis methods.
