Background: Delirium is a common problem among patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs); however, it remains underdiagnosed. We aimed to determine the impact of a nursing education program on Jordanian nurses' knowledge, practice, attitudes, self-efficacy, and ability to detect delirium among ICU patients. Materials and Methods: We conducted a nonequivalent, quasi-experimental design from January 2019 to January 2020. A total of 175 nurses who work in an ICU were included at the baseline and divided into two groups: (1) intervention (86 nurses), who received education for 6 hours each day across two different days and (2) a control group (89 nurses), who maintained their usual routine of care. Data were collected by means of a booklet of questionnaires about the nurses' knowledge and practice, attitudes, and self-efficacy. Results: Data from 160 nurses were included in the analysis. The education program intervention (n = 81) significantly increased nurses' knowledge and practice, positive attitudes, and self-efficacy compared with the control group (n = 79, p < 0.001). In addition, nurses who received the educational intervention were able to detect more cases of delirium (28%, from a total of 51 patients) than the controls, who detected three (6.50%) out of a total of 31 patients (p = 0.003). Conclusions: The ICU nurses who received the delirium-focused educational program increased their knowledge and practice, positive attitudes, and their self-efficacy; in addition, their ability to detect delirium was increased. Assessment of functional health literacy (FHL) is not integrated into clinical settings in Jordan possibly because relevant psychometric studies are lacking. The aim of this secondary analysis of data on family caregivers (N = 115) was to evaluate the internal consistency reliability and construct validity of three measures of FHL among Jordanians: the Short Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (S-TOFHLA), the Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine-Revised (REALM-R), and the Single Item Literacy Screener (SILS). Cronbach's alpha was excellent for the S-TOFHLA (.92), but suboptimal for the REALM-R (.67). In bivariate analysis, FHL measured by the S-TOFHLA and the REALM-R, but not the SILS, was positively associated with educational attainment (p <.05) and negatively related to self-reported anxiety (p <.05). Among Jordanians, psychometric rigor was fully demonstrated for the S-TOFHLA and partially for the REALM-R, but not for the SILS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current study aimed to examine the effect of depressive and anxiety symptoms on physical and psychological quality of life (QOL) in end‐stage renal disease patient‐family caregiver dyads using the Actor‐Partner Interdependence Model. This was a descriptive cross‐sectional study. Dyads' (N = 120) symptoms of anxiety and depression and QOL were assessed via the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the World Health Organization (WHO)QOL‐BREF, respectively. The depression scores were higher (worse) in patients than in caregivers (8.74 ± 5.23 vs. 6.9 ± 3.9, t[df 119] = 3.339, p =.001). Patients had lower (worse) scores on the physical domain of QOL than the caregivers (47.37 ± 22.9 vs. 64.1 ± 17.49, t[df 119] = −7.165, p <.001). Anxiety and depressive symptoms exhibited actor effects on the physical and psychological QOL of the dyad. Only depressive symptoms in caregivers exhibited a partner effect on the psychological domain of QOL in patients (β = −.745, p <.05). In conclusion, anxiety and depressive symptoms in both patients and caretakers are equally crucial in end‐stage renal disease management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Purpose: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of anxiety and depression, examine their relationships with sociodemographic factors and Internet addiction, and identify their main predictors among Jordanian school students aged 12–18 years. Design and Methods: A descriptive correlational study was conducted on a random sample of 800 students from 10 public schools in Amman. Symptom Checklist‐anxiety, Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children, and Young's Internet Addiction Tool were used for the purpose. Findings: Overall, 42.1 and 73.8% of the students were experiencing anxiety and depression. Risk factors for both problems were school class and Internet addiction, with the latter being the main predictor. Practice Implications: Increasing students' and stakeholders' awareness of mental illnesses and health programs and developing counseling centers to meet the students' needs are necessary. Introduction: The expedited COVID-19 vaccine has challenged people’s belief and perception of its effectiveness. The purpose of this study was to identify whether knowledge related to Covid-19 and perception of effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccine would predict health-care workers’ willingness to take the vaccine. Methods: A cross-sectional design using a convenience sampling technique was used to collect data from 302 HCWs. HCWs targeted included all those working at healthcare settings in Jordan. Data collected regarding knowledge related Covid-19 and perception of effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccine. Data collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: HCWs have moderate to high level of knowledge related to vaccines of Covid-19 and its effectiveness. High level of willingness to take the vaccine was also observed among HCWs. Those with higher level of knowledge and positive perception of effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccine are more likely to take the vaccine (p < .05); however, not highly influential (R2 = 27%). Demographic characteristics have not been found to influence HCWs’ decision to take the vaccine. Conclusion: There is a need to enhance positive perception of effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccine among health professionals through appropriate education and procedures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
