1. Exploration of TCP Parameters for Enhanced Performance in a Datacenter Environment

Abstract

TCP parameters in most of the operating systems are optimized for generic home and office environments having low latencies in their internal networks. However, this arrangement invariably results in a compromized network performance when same parameters are straight away slotted into a datacenter environment. We identify key TCP parameters that have a major impact on network performance based on the study and comparative analysis of home and datacenter environments. Abstract

Today, the advancements in urban technology have transformed into the concept of smart cities. These smart cities are envisioned to be heavily dependent on wireless sensor networks and internet of things. In this context, a number of routing protocols have been proposed in literature for use in sensor networks. We articulate on why these routing protocols need to be segregated on the basis of their operational mechanism and utility, so that selection of these protocols results in network longevity and improved performance. We classify these protocols in four categories in terms of topology incognizant, data centric, location assisted and mobility based protocols. Abstract

The cellular technology is mostly an urban technology that has been unable to serve rural areas well. This is because the traditional cellular models are not economical for areas with low user density and lesser revenues. In 5G cellular networks, the coverage dilemma is likely to remain the same, thus widening the rural-urban digital divide further. It is about time to identify the root cause that has hindered the rural technology growth and analyse the possible options in 5G architecture to address this issue. We advocate that it can only be accomplished in two phases by sequentially addressing economic viability followed by performance progression. We deliberate how various works in literature focus on the later stage of this two-phase problem and are not feasible to implement in the first place. We propose the concept of TV band white space (TVWS) dovetailed with 5G infrastructure for rural coverage and show that it can yield cost-effectiveness from a service provider perspective., Comment: Accepted in IEEE ICIN 2017 (5GUA)

Abstract

In Bangladesh prevalence of kidney diseases is increasing day by day and it was observed that renal medulla is affected less in earlier period of life but in late period it becomes affected more. Moreover renal mass changes with age which affecting the medullary mass and consequently the number of medullary pyramids. So the present study was carried out to evaluate anatomical features of medulla and to count the medullary pyramids with age related changes in the number of the pyramids in Bangladeshi people. Study type: Cross sectional analytical type of study. Place and period of study: Department of Anatomy, Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, Bangladesh from January 2004 to June 2005. Materials and methods: A total of 70 fresh human kidneys of both sexes and sides were collected from the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College at postmortem. The selected cases were between 5 to 60 years of age. The samples were divided into 3 different age groups (A: 05-15 years, B: 16-35 years, C: 36- 60 years) to observe the variations in number of medullary pyramid of kidney in different age groups. Results: Among three groups, highly significant (<0.001) differences were found statistically in the number of medullary pyramid. Abstract

The morphological study was done to see the origin of right and left hepatic arteries supplying the liver and gallbladder in Bangladeshi people to increase the knowledge regarding variational anatomy in this region. Sixty post mortem tissue blocks containing liver and gallbladder along with surrounding structures were collected from 40 male and 20 female cadavers of different age groups and fixed in 10% formol saline solution. This was a cross sectional descriptive study. This study was carried out in the Department of Anatomy in Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, from July 2007 to June 2008. Gross and fine dissections were carried out to study the different origin of right and left hepatic artery and its topographic relationship with adjacent structures. In the present study, findings were compared with the findings of Western researchers. In the present study, typical origin of the right and left hepatic artery from hepatic artery proper was 85% and in 15% cases it was found to arise from other sources. The right hepatic arteries those were not originated from hepatic artery proper, 8% was found to arise from common hepatic artery and 7% from superior mesenteric artery. But in case of left hepatic artery, remaining 15% was originated from common hepatic artery.
