This article presents a simple method to obtain lagging power requirement of a single-phase cage induction machine as a self-excited induction generator (SEIG) in stand-alone mode. A static capacitor bank is considered to self excite the machine and to maintain its terminal voltage constant. Performance characteristics are then evaluated using the simple method and considering an approximate steady state equivalent circuit of the machine. The effects of speed and load variation on excitation requirement of the machine and on generated frequency have also been studied for different types of load. Experimental results are included. In this paper, comparative study of two schemes of four-quadrant GTO converter-fed DC motor drive is carried out. The schemes considered are (i) a PWM GTO dual converter and (ii) a single PWM GTO converter with a static reversing switch. Both of them offer superior performances compared to conventional line commutated converter-fed DC motor drives. The performances of the two schemes are compared for the case of both open-loop and closed-loop speed control systems. The results are experimentally verified in the laboratory with a 3-hp DC motor. A field experiment conducted at Hazrapur, Firozabad during to Consicutive Kharif season, 2007 and 2008. Five varieties of onion were studied for their suitability in Kharif season for two years. Plant height and number of leaves/plant were significantly higher Arka Niketan. Maximum bulb diameter (5-60 cm) was noted in Arka Niketan variety. Which was at par with Agrifound dark red (5-37 cm) Maximum bulb yield (182-98 q/ha) was produced by Agrifound dark red, followed by Arka Niketan (168-45 q/ha), while minimum bulb yield (92.75 q/ha) was recorded in Agrifound light red. Toltal soluble solids was high (12-0 B) in Arka Niketan. Minimum total soluble solids (9.6 B), was recorded in N-53 varity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Poisoning is one of the commonest methods employed for committing suicide, especially in Developing countries like Bangladesh. In this retrospective study, a total of 114 organophosphorus poisoningcases autopsied at Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue, Dhaka, Bangladesh, were analyzed during the period from January 2016 to December 2017. Male predominance was noted accounting for 75% of total cases compared to females 25% cases. Most common age group involved was 21-30 years 31% followed by 31-40 years 22% belonging to lower socioeconomic status. Suicide was the commonest manner of death in majority of cases. The reason may be the increasing stress in the family and economic constraints. Accidental deaths due to occupational exposure or inhalation of OPC compounds are reported but in these cases mortality rate is less than that suicidal poisoning. To reduce poisoning cases proper emphasis should be given for safe use of pesticides and consciousness should becreated among the population about poisonous compounds.
