Abstract

This paper investigates the inherent trade-off between energy efficiency (EE) and spectral efficiency (SE) in distributed massive-MIMO (D-mMIMO) systems. Optimizing the EE and SE together is crucial as increasing spectral efficiency often leads to higher energy consumption. Joint power allocation and AP-UE association are pivotal in this trade-off analysis because they directly influence both EE and SE. We address the gap in existing literature where the EE-SE trade-off has been analyzed but not optimized in the context of D-mMIMO systems. The focus of this study is to maximize the EE with constraints on uplink sum SE through judicious power allocation and AP-UE association, essential for enhancing network throughput. Numerical simulations are performed to validate the proposed model, exploring the impacts of AP-UE association and power allocation on the EE-SE trade-off in uplink D-mMIMO scenarios.

2. A general flame aerosol route to kinetically stabilized metal-organic frameworks.

Abstract

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are highly attractive porous materials with applications spanning the fields of chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering. Their exceptional porosity and structural flexibility have led to widespread use in catalysis, separation, biomedicine, and electrochemistry. Currently, most MOFs are synthesized under equilibrium liquid-phase reaction conditions. Here we show a general and versatile non-equilibrium flame aerosol synthesis of MOFs, in which rapid kinetics of MOF formation yields two distinct classes of MOFs, nano-crystalline MOFs and amorphous MOFs. A key advantage of this far-from-equilibrium synthesis is integration of different metal cations within a single MOF phase, even when this is thermodynamically unfavorable. This can, for example, produce single-atom catalysts and bimetallic MOFs of arbitrary metal pairs. Moreover, we demonstrate that dopant metals (e.g., Pt, Pd) can be exsolved from the MOF framework by reduction, forming nanoclusters anchored on the MOF. A prototypical example of such a material exhibited outstanding performance as a CO oxidation catalyst. This general synthesis route opens new opportunities in MOF design and applications across diverse fields and is inherently scalable for continuous production at industrial scales.

Abstract

The utilization of distributed arithmetic (DA) in AF algorithms has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential to enhance computational efficiency and reduce resource requirements. This paper presents an exploration of the application of DA to adaptive filtering (AF) algorithms, analyzing trends, discussing challenges, and outlining future prospects. It begins by providing an overview of both DA and AF algorithms, highlighting their individual merits and established applications. Subsequently, the integration of DA into AF algorithms is explored, showcasing its ability to optimize multiply-accumulate operations and mitigate the computational burden associated with AF algorithms. Throughout the paper, the critical trends observed in the field are discussed, including advancements in DA-based hardware architectures. Moreover, the challenges encountered in implementing DA-based AF is also discussed. The continued evolution of DA techniques to cater to the demands of modern AF applications, including real-time processing, resource-constrained environments, and high-dimensional data streams is anticipated. In conclusion, this paper consolidates the current state of applying DA to AF algorithms, offering insights into prevailing trends, discussing challenges, and presenting future research and development in the field. The fusion of these two domains holds promise for achieving improved computational efficiency, reduced hardware complexity, and enhanced performance in various signal processing applications.
