The use of appropriate of words in writing, particularly frequently occurring four words combinations in academic register, is very important because it is an effective building block of academic text used by expert writers for effective communication. Yet teaching of four-word lexical bundles is rarely discussed in ESL writing textbooks. Recent research has shown that corpora can be a useful tool for helping L2 writers improve their use of four-word lexical bundles. This article presents an attempt to teach four-word lexical bundles to advanced intensive ESOL students at a community college in the USA. The article shows the application of iWeb for the selection and instruction of four-word lexical bundles to teach different ways of concluding an essay.

This study provides an extensive overview of the latest developments in metal surface engineering, including methodologies, characterizations, and applications. The study highlights how important surface engineering is for improving metallic materials’ functionality and performance across a range of sectors. Therefore, a series of techniques are presented in this paper for evaluating design surfaces’ mechanical properties, topological properties, and microstructure. This paper presents a review of current advances in the field, focusing on functionalized surfaces for energy applications, nanostructured coatings for corrosion protection, and biomedical applications of modified surfaces. Since lasers and electron beams are mechanically and tribologically superior, there is a long discussion about their environmental footprint. A special focus in the study is on surface functionalization, nanostructured coatings, corrosion protection, and biological applications, as well as recent developments in the field. The paper also discusses the impact they have on the environment. Surface engineering approaches have long been known to enhance corrosion protection, wear resistance, and component functionality in aerospace, automotive, electronics, and healthcare sectors. Thus, the paper’s conclusion emphasizes that more research and development are needed to overcome constraints and take advantage of emerging trends in surface engineering in order to overcome constraints and take advantage of new trends. The paper provides a solid foundation for future research and development in a range of industries affected by surface engineering.

Re-assembled casein micelles (rCMs), were formulated in the 1970s as a model system to understand native casein micelles (nCMs) in milk. These early works allowed an understanding of the critical factors involved in the formation of rCMs, such as minerals (citrate, phosphate, and calcium), casein type (αs-, β-, and κ-casein) and the extent of their phosphorylation. rCMs were also used to understand the effect of treatments such as ethanol, high hydrostatic pressure and heating on the stability and integrity of the micelles. More recently, the applications of rCMs have been investigated, these include their use as a nanocarrier of bioactive molecules and as electrode-bound substrates to monitor chymosin activity by electrochemistry, to cite a few. Moreover, the potential to use rCMs in both food and non-food applications remains to be fully exploited. The advantage of choosing rCMs over nCMs as an encapsulant and a lucrative food ingredient is due to their more efficient preparation and being free from impurities. In this review, we report on the formulation of rCMs, their physico-chemical properties and their behavior under different physico-chemical treatments, along with the applications and challenges of rCMs in food systems and their industrial production as a dairy ingredient. Patients with Diabetes mellitus (DM) are at risk of developing dry eye disease (DED). We investigated routine laboratory parameters in patients with type 2 DM (T2D) and T2D-DED to identify potential inflammatory markers. A retrospective study of 241 randomly selected patients (30 DED non-diabetic, 120 T2D, and 91 with T2D-DED). The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratios (NLR), CRP-to-albumin ratios (CAR), and the glycosylated haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) results were correlated between groups. The NLR and HbA1c were significantly higher in the T2D-DED group (p≤0.001 and 0.0001, respectively) when compared with T2D and DED non-diabetic groups. CAR was insignificantly high in the three groups (p=0.192). A positive correlation was identified between CAR and NLR in T2D-DED patients (p= 0.008). In T2D-DED patients, NLR was significantly high and positively correlate with CAR. These results predicate diabetes with dry eye complications, and biomarker-mediated inflammation may have important roles in DED pathogenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
