Abstract

Nanotechnology can improve the mechanical barrier and the antimicrobial (which will not allow the invasion of microorganisms in the food, increasing the food barrier properties, hence can be a very promising material for food packaging. Nanomaterials will keep the food fresh in the food packaging design. Silver nanoparticles and nanoclay represent most of the nanoempowered food packaging available on the market others like zinc oxide and titanium share little of the current market. Zinc oxide enhances nutritional values in food products by adding nutrients. It helps improve the flavour, storage properties, appearance, and texture of the food. Titanium dioxide is used for food safety purposes since it prevents food from spoiling and increases the food’s shelf life. In current food packaging, these nanomaterials are used to grant antimicrobial capacity and further develop hindrance properties, broadening packaged food’s shelf life and newness. Nanofood packaging has many benefits for general wellbeing. The related harmfulness of migration, particularly in acidic conditions, is extensive. The use of nanomaterials because of their physical and chemical properties makes them broadly accessible in numerous areas. This review summarizes the antimicrobial packaging application, nanomaterials synthesis, and nanomaterial properties in food packaging.

Abstract

Lithium-sulfur batteries are among the rising rechargeable batteries due to their high energy density, theoretical capacity, and low cost. However, their large-scale application is delayed by several challenges, such as degradation due to polysulfide dissolution, low conductivity, and other restricting factors. Li-S batteries have undergone decades of development aimed at improving battery performance by altering the electrode material to overcome these challenges. In the meantime, due to the depletion of fossil fuels and growing energy demand, the need for changes in processes to improve battery performance is now more urgent than ever. Carbon-based materials like conducting polymers, carbon nanotubes, Graphene, and activated Carbon have gained extensive attention due to their low cost, easy availability, good cycling stability, and exceptional electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties. Here, we summarize recent progress in carbon-based electrode material in Li-S batteries, the development of electrolytes, and progress in adopting lithium-sulfur batteries as flexible devices. Furthermore, a comparison of Li-S batteries based on similar parameters with its rechargeable battery competitors is discussed and a comparison with other non-carbon-based electrodes used in the lithium-sulfur battery is also examined. Finally, a general conclusion and future directions are given.

26. Mucosal and systemic SIV-specific cytotoxic CD4+ T cell hierarchy in protection following intranasal/intramuscular recombinant pox-viral vaccination of pigtail macaques.

Abstract

A HIV vaccine that provides mucosal immunity is urgently needed. We evaluated an intranasal recombinant Fowlpox virus (rFPV) priming vaccine followed by intramuscular Modified Vaccinia Ankara (rMVA) booster vaccine, both expressing SIV antigens. The vaccination generated mucosal and systemic SIV-specific CD4+ T cell mediated immunity and was associated with partial protection against high-dose intrarectal SIVmac251 challenge in outbred pigtail macaques. Three of 12 vaccinees were completely protected and these animals elicited sustained Gag-specific poly-functional, cytotoxic mucosal CD4+ T cells, complemented by systemic poly-functional CD4+ and CD8+ T cell immunity. Humoral immune responses, albeit absent in completely protected macaques, were associated with partial control of viremia in animals with relatively weaker mucosal/systemic T cell responses. Co-expression of an IL-4R antagonist by the rFPV vaccine further enhanced the breadth and cytotoxicity/poly-functionality of mucosal vaccine-specific CD4+ T cells. Moreover, a single FPV-gag/pol/env prime was able to induce rapid anamnestic gp140 antibody response upon SIV encounter. Collectively, our data indicated that nasal vaccination was effective at inducing robust cervico-vaginal and rectal immunity, although cytotoxic CD4+ T cell mediated mucosal and systemic immunity correlated strongly with 'complete protection', the different degrees of protection observed was multi-factorial.
