From 2012 to 2023, the PRISMA-32 array was in operation at the Experimental Complex NEVOD (MEPhI, Moscow). The purpose of the array was to study extensive air showers by detecting the air-shower neutron and electron-photon components using unshielded neutron detectors. To expand the capabilities of this facility, including for the study of cosmic and geophysical phenomena with a neutron flux, its upgrade was carried out. During the upgrade, a dedicated measuring channel for studying variations of the neutron background and the processes affecting these variations was created. To achieve this, the photomultipliers, the integrating amplifiers, the digitalizing electronics and the high-voltage power supply system were replaced. The paper describes the structure of the upgraded array, which was named PRISMA-36, and presents the results of studying the characteristics of the main elements of its "variation" channel. A method for identifying signals caused by neutron capture and the determined criteria for their selection are discussed. An example of a Forbush decrease, caused by a X1.1-class flare and recorded with the variation channel of the PRISMA-36 array, is given., Comment: 19 pages, 21 figures

I present a new approximation of the $S$-matrix dependence on momentum $q$, formulated as a sum of a rational function and a truncated Sinc series. This approach enables pointwise determination of the $S$ matrix with specified resolution, capturing essential features such as resonance behavior with high accuracy. The resulting approximation provides a separable kernel for the Marchenko equation (fixed-$l$ inversion), reducing it to a system of linear equations for the expansion coefficients of the output kernel. Numerical results demonstrate good convergence of this method, applicable to both unitary and non-unitary $S$ matrices. Convergence is further validated through comparisons with an exactly solvable square-well potential model. This paper describes the STCON system for the CHiME-8 Challenge Task 1 (DASR) aimed at distant automatic speech transcription and diarization with multiple recording devices. Our main attention was paid to carefully trained and tuned diarization pipeline and speaker counting. This allowed to significantly reduce diarization error rate (DER) and obtain more reliable segments for speech separation and recognition. To improve source separation, we designed a Guided Target speaker Extraction (G-TSE) model and used it in conjunction with the traditional Guided Source Separation (GSS) method. To train various parts of our pipeline, we investigated several data augmentation and generation techniques, which helped us to improve the overall system quality.

Sub-picosecond optical laser processing of metals is actively utilized for modification of a heated surface layer. But for deeper modification of different materials a laser in the hard x-ray range is required. Here, we demonstrate that a single 9-keV x-ray pulse from a free-electron laser can form a um-diameter cylindrical cavity with length of ~1 mm in LiF surrounded by shock-transformed material. The plasma-generated shock wave with TPa-level pressure results in damage, melting and polymorphic transformations of any material, including transparent and non-transparent to conventional optical lasers. Moreover, cylindrical shocks can be utilized to obtain a considerable amount of exotic high-pressure polymorphs. Pressure wave propagation in LiF, radial material flow, formation of cracks and voids are analyzed via continuum and atomistic simulations revealing a sequence of processes leading to the final structure with the long cavity. Similar results can be produced with semiconductors and ceramics, which opens a new pathway for development of laser material processing with hard x-ray pulses.

We present a concept for selective excitation of magnetostatic surface waves with quasi-discrete spectrum using spatially patterned femtosecond laser pulses inducing either ultrafast change of magnetic anisotropy or inverse Faraday effect. We micromagnetically simulate excitation of the waves with periodically patterned uni- or bipolar laser impact. Such excitation yields multiple wavepackets propagating with different group velocities, whose dispersion corresponds to the set of quasi-discrete points. In addition, we show that the frequency of the spectral peaks can be controlled by the polarity of the periodic impact and its spatial period. Presented consideration of multiple spatially periodic magnetostatic surface wave sources as a whole enables implementation of a comprehensive toolkit of spatio-temporal optical methods for tunable excitation and control of spin wave parameters, Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

A pair of circularly polarized laser pulses of opposite helicities are shown to control the route of spin reorientation phase transition in rare-earth antiferromagnetic orthoferrite (Sm$_{0.55}$Tb$_{0.45}$)FeO$_3$. The route can be efficiently controlled by the delay between the pulses and the sample temperature. Simulations employing previously published models of \mbox{laser-induced} spin dynamics in orthoferrites failed to reproduce the experimental results. We suggest that the failure is due to neglected temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic resonance damping in the material. Taking into account the experimentally deduced temperature dependence of the damping, we obtained good agreement between the simulations and the experiment., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures

We analytically discuss and micromagnetically prove the ways to tune the spatial asymmetry of the initial phase, amplitude, and wavevectors of magnetostatic waves driven by ultrafast laser excitation. We consider that the optical pulse heats a thin ferromagnetic metallic film and abruptly decreases the saturation magnetization and the parameter of uniaxial anisotropy. The two corresponding terms of laser-induced torque have different azimuthal symmetries, with the 4-fold symmetry of the demagnetization-related term, and the isotropic distribution of the anisotropy-related term. As a result, the initial phase and amplitude of excited magnetostatic waves have a non-trivial azimuthal distribution tunable with the angle between the external magnetic field and anisotropy axis, and the laser spot diameter. Moreover, the variation of these parameters tunes the distribution of wavevectors, resulting in additional asymmetry between the spectral components of the waves propagating in different directions., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

We study the effects of magnetization on the properties of the doped topological insulator with nematic superconductivity. We found that the direction of the in-plane magnetization fixes the direction of the nematicity in the system. The chiral state is more favorable than the nematic state for large values of out-of-plane magnetization. Overall, the critical temperature of the nematic state is resilient against magnetization. We explore the spectrum of the system with the pinned direction of the nematic order parameter $\Delta_{y}$ in details. Without magnetization, there is a full gap in the spectrum. At strong enough out-of-plane $m_z$ or orthogonal in-plane $m_x$ magnetization, the spectrum is closed at the nodal points that are split by the magnetization. Flat Majorana surface states connect such split bulk nodal points. Parallel magnetization $m_y$ lifts nodal points and opens a full gap in the spectrum. We discuss relevant experiments and propose experimental verifications of our theory.

The field of neuromorphic computing is rapidly evolving. As both biological accuracy and practical implementations are explored, existing architectures are modified and improved for both purposes. The Temporal Neural Network(TNN) style of architecture is a good basis for approximating biological neurons due to its use of timed pulses to encode data and a voltage-threshold-like system. Using the Temporal Neural Network cortical column C3S architecture design as a basis, this project seeks to augment the network's design. This project takes note of two ideas and presents their designs with the goal of improving existing cortical column architecture. One need in this field is for an encoder that could convert between common digital formats and timed neuronal spikes, as biologically accurate networks are temporal in nature. To this end, this project presents an encoder to translate between binary encoded values and timed spikes to be processed by the neural network. Another need is for the reduction of wasted processing time to idleness, caused by lengthy Gamma cycle processing bursts. To this end, this project presents a relaxation of Gamma cycles to allow for them to end arbitrarily early once the network has determined an output response. With the goal of contributing to the betterment of the field of neuromorphic computer architecture, designs for both a binary-to-spike encoder, as well as a Gamma cycle controller, are presented and evaluated for optimal design parameters, with overall system gain and performance., Comment: 12 pages, 35 figures, 6 tables

The advent of heterogeneous multi-core architectures brought with it huge benefits to energy efficiency by running programs on properly-sized cores. Modern heterogeneous multi-core systems as suggested by Artjom et al. schedule tasks to different cores based on governors that may optimize a task for energy use or performance. This provides benefits to the system as a whole in reducing energy costs where possible, but also not compromising on performance for timing-critical applications. In the era of dark silicon, energy optimization is increasingly important, and many architectures have arisen that seek to optimize processors to specific tasks, often at the cost of generality. We propose that we can still achieve energy-saving and potentially performance-improving benefits while not affecting a system's generality at all, by achieving heterogeneity at the level of Arithmetic logic unit (ALUs). Much like a heterogeneous multi-core system achieves benefits from its heterogeneity and efficient scheduling, a heterogeneous ALU system can achieve similar benefits by routing ALU operations to properly sized ALUs. Additionally much like there are scheduling modes for the governors of heterogeneous multi-core processors, we propose that energy-constrained modes can be effective in a heterogeneous ALU system with the routing of operations to smaller ALUs for immense energy savings. We examine the energy and performance characteristics of scaling ripple carry adders and evaluate the total energy and performance benefits of such a system when running applications. With our proposed controls, input operand size-based and energy constraint-based, we could potentially emulate the success of heterogeneous processor task scheduling at a finer-grained level. Modification of titanium microstructure after propagation of a melting shock wave (SW) generated by a femtosecond laser pulse is investigated experimentally and analyzed using hydrodynamic and atomistic simulations. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy with analysis of microdiffraction is used to determine the microstructure of subsurface layers of pure titanium sample before and after modification. We found that two layers of modified titanium are formed beneath the surface. A top surface polycrystalline layer of nanoscale grains is formed from a shock-molten layer via rapid crystallization. In a deeper subsurface layer, where the shock-induced melting becomes impossible due attenuation of SW, recrystallization of plastically deformed titanium leads to grain size changes in comparison with intact titanium. Molecular dynamics simulation of single-crystal titanium reveals that the SW front continues to melt/liquefy even after its temperature drops below the melting curve $T_m(P)$. The enormous shear stress generated in a narrow SW front leads to collapse/amorphization of the crystal lattice and formation of a supercooled metastable melt. Such melt crystallizes in an unloading tail of SW until its temperature becomes higher than $T_m(P)$ due to a rapid pressure drop. Later, crystallization of the subsurface molten layer will continue after the heat leaves it. After the shear stress drops below $\sim 12$GPa within the SW front, such the cold mechanical melting ceases giving place to the shock-induced plastic deformations. The depth of modification is limited by SW attenuation to the Hugoniot elastic limit, and can reach several micrometers. The charge-exchange reaction $\pi^-p \rightarrow n\,\omega(783)\phi(1020)$, $\omega \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$, $\phi \rightarrow K^+K^-$ is studied with the upgraded VES facility (U-70, Protvino) in the interaction of a 29 GeV pion beam with a beryllium target. The distribution over the invariant mass of the system $M_{\omega\phi}$ shows a near-threshold signal. A partial wave analysis reveals that the scalar state ($J^{PC}=0^{++}$) dominates in this mass region. The observed signal can be described with a contribution of the known resonance $f_0(1710)$. Using OPE approximation for the reaction $\pi^-p \rightarrow n\, f_0(1710)$ the product of branching fractions is found to be: $Br(f_0(1710)\rightarrow \pi\pi)\cdot Br(f_0(1710)\rightarrow \omega\phi) = (4.8 \pm 1.2) \cdot 10^{-3}$.

In this paper we discuss the calibration of the NEVOD-EAS array which is a part of the Experimental Complex NEVOD, as well as the results of studying the response features of its scintillation detectors. We present the results of the detectors energy calibration, performed by comparing their response to different types of particles obtained experimentally and simulated with the Geant4 software package, as well as of the measurements of their timing resolution. We present a new study of the Z~Cam-type eclipsing cataclysmic variable AY~Piscium with the aim of determining the fundamental parameters of the system and the structure of the accretion flow therein. We use time-resolved photometric observations supplemented by spectroscopy in the standstill, to which we applied our light-curve modeling techniques and the Doppler tomography method, to update system parameters. We found that the system has a massive white dwarf $M_{\rm WD}=0.90(4)$ \ms, a mass ratio $q=0.50(3)$, and the effective temperature of a secondary $T_2 = 4100(50)$~K. The system inclination is $i=74.^{\circ}8(7)$. The orbital period of the system $P_{\mathrm{orb}}=0.217320523(8)\;\mathrm{d}$ is continuously increasing with the rate of $\dot{P}_{\mathrm{orb}} = +7.6(5)\times10^{-9}$ d year$^{-1}$. The mass transfer rate varies between 2.4$\times$10$^{-10}$ M$_\odot$ year$^{-1}$ in quiescence up to 1.36$\times$10$^{-8}$ M$_\odot$ year$^{-1}$ in outburst. The accretion disk transitions from the cooler, flared, steady-state disk to a warmer state with a practically constant and relatively high disk height. The mass transfer rate is about 1.6$\times$10$^{-9}$ M$_\odot$ year$^{-1}$ in the standstill. The Balmer emission lines show a multi-component structure similar to that observed in long-orbital-period nova-like systems. Out of standstill, the system exhibits outburst bimodality, with long outbursts being more prominent. We conclude that the Balmer emission lines in AY~Psc are formed by the combination of radiation from the irradiated surface of the secondary, from the outflow zone, and from winds originating in the bright spot and the disk's inner part.

Nonreciprocity, i.e. inequivalence in amplitudes and frequencies of spin waves propagating in opposite directions, is a key property underlying functionality in prospective magnonic devices. Here we demonstrate experimentally and theoretically a simple approach to induce frequency nonreciprocity in a magnetostatically coupled ferromagnetic bilayer structure with a nonmagnetic spacer by its geometrical asymmetry. Using Brillouin light scattering, we show the formation of two collective spin wave modes in Fe$_{81}$Ga$_{19}$/Cu/Fe$_{81}$Ga$_{19}$ structure with different thicknesses of ferromagnetic layers. Experimental reconstruction and theoretical modeling of the dispersions of acoustic and optical collective spin wave modes reveal that both possess nonreciprocity reaching several percent at the wavenumber of $22~\cdot~10^4$ rad cm$^{-1}$. The analysis demonstrates that the shift of the amplitudes of counter-propagating coupled modes towards either of the layers is responsible for the nonreciprocity because of the pronounced dependence of spin wave frequency on the layers thickness. In this work, we use muon bundles which are formed in extensive air showers and detected at the ground level as a tool for searching anisotropy of high energy cosmic rays. Such choice is explained by the penetrating ability of muons which allows them to retain the direction of primary particles with a good accuracy. In 2012-2022, we performed long-term muon bundle detection with the coordinate-tracking detector DECOR, which is a part of the Experimental complex NEVOD (MEPhI, Moscow). To search for the cosmic rays anisotropy, the muon bundles arriving at zenith angles in the range from 15 to 75 degrees in the local coordinate system are used. During the entire period of data taking, about 14 million of such events have been accumulated. In this paper, we describe some methods developed in the Experimental complex NEVOD and implemented in our research, including: the method for compensating the influence of meteorological conditions on the intensity of muon bundles at the Earth's surface, the method for accounting the design features of the detector and the inhomogeneity of the detection efficiency for different directions, as well as the method for estimating primary energies of cosmic rays. Low-energy magnonic logic circuits are an actively developing field of modern magnetism. The potential benefits of magnonics for data processing are vitally dependent on units based on non-reciprocal propagation of spin waves in analogy to semiconductor diodes and transistors in electronics. In this article, we suggest the approach to realize non-reciprocal propagation of spin waves in a ferromagnetic metallic waveguide by exciting them with femtosecond laser pulse. Using micromagnetic modeling, we show that the combination of an external magnetic field and the position of the excitation laser spot across the waveguide leads to unidirectional propagation of the excited spin-wave packet.
