Abstract

Carbon soot produced by the gas evaporation technique by the arc-discharge method has been passed through the plasma field. The particles produced in the arc-discharge method helium gas were composed of amorphous carbon and C(sub 6) crystallites. The particles passed through the plasma field were composed of amorphous carbon and larger 300 nm size (111) plate crystal with FCC structure. The larger C(sub 60) crystal formation in the plasma field has been discussed as a result of selective coalescence among C(sub 60) crystallites and the alteration of carbon soot into C(sub 60) crystal., 資料番号: AA0046650068

Abstract

Identification of local strains is crucial because the local strains largely influence the ferroelectric property of BaTiO3. The effects of local strains induced by external pressures on the Ti-L2,3 electron energy-loss near-edge structure (ELNES) of BaTiO3 were theoretically investigated using first-principles multiplet calculations. We revealed that the effects appear in the position of the spectral threshold, namely the spectrum shifts to lower and higher energy sides by the tensile and compressive pressures, respectively. We concluded that conventional ELNES observations can identify only large strains induced by −10 GPa, and 0.1 eV energy resolution is required to identify ±2% of strains. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Abstract

The valences of manganese and vanadium oxides in multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), sintered under a reducing atmosphere, were investigated using electron paramagnetic resonance; insulation resistance degradation was analyzed using impedance spectroscopy in highly accelerated lifetime tests to clarify the influences of manganese and vanadium on both the electrical properties and microstructure of MLCCs. The Mn2+ was stable in the reducing-atmospheresintered MLCCs and formed a grain boundary. Vanadium mitigated insulation resistance degradation and increased the reliability of the MLCCs. Although V4+ was detected in MLCCs that had 0.20 mol% and 0.30 mol% of added vanadium, the electrical properties were dependent upon other ions, e.g., V3+ or V5+. All vanadium ions except for V4+ decreased the insulation resistance of ceramic/electrode interface. This is because vanadium reduces electric field concentration at the ceramic/ electrode interface and delays the onset of oxygen vacancy migration in the early stages of a highly accelerated lifetime test. Abstract

Abstract: Tetragonal BaTiO3 particles less than 50nm in diameter have been produced by the gas evaporation method. The conventional gas evaporation of a powder of mixed TiO2 and BaCO3 and the gas flush evaporation of BaTiO3 powders have been performed. In the case of the evaporation of the mixed powder, the crystallization from the amorphous particles was observed. The preparation of a large amount of 20-nm-diameter BaTiO3 particles was achieved by the gas flush evaporation method. These particles showed the characteristic absorption at 18 and 23μm, which can be used for the identification of BaTiO3 nanoparticles. The nanosize particles also showed the characteristic absorption at 320nm in the ultraviolet region. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Abstract: Al–Mn quasicrystal ultrafine particles can be produced by the advanced gas evaporation method (AGEM), which is a method of preparing ultrafine alloy particles by coalescence growth among the particles near the evaporation sources. We investigated the phase transition temperature from a quasicrystal to a stable crystal, by examining successive electron diffraction patterns of an ultrafine particle in an in situ experiment using a transmission electron microscope. In spite of the report that the Al86Mn14 quasicrystal transforms into the crystal phase at around 400–670°C on thin film specimens, the quasicrystal ultrafine particle transformed at 800°C, i.e., the quasicrystal ultrafine particle is more stable. Since the cross-sectional view of the surface oxide layer of the quasicrystal ultrafine particles can be easily observed, the surface oxides of η-Al2O3 and MnO were characterized as a result of the oxidation of residual atoms on the surface of the produced alloy particles including the quasicrystals. The conditions required for Al–Mn quasicrystal ultrafine particle formation by the AGEM can be estimated under the cooling rate of 105K/s. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
