Abstract

Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are common in young adults, particularly women, who tend to develop multiple FGIDs over time. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of multiple concurrent FGIDs among female university students and identify differences in dietary habits, academic stress, and quality of life (QOL) based on the number of concurrent FGIDs. This secondary analysis included data from 406 female participants, originally collected through an online survey from two universities in one city in Korea. The online survey was accessible only after participants were verified as students through their online community. Concurrent FGID was present in 25.8 percent (n = 16) of the participants with FGIDs (n = 62), with the most common being irritable bowel syndrome + functional dyspepsia overlap (43.8 percent, 7/16). Participants with multiple concurrent FGIDs consumed fewer grains and vegetables, while significantly more of them consumed instant food, fast food, milk, and tea/coffee. They experienced significantly higher academic stress and lower QOL than those without the disease. Female university students with concurrent FGIDs tend to have unhealthy dietary habits, and concurrent FGIDs negatively affect academic stress and QOL. Therefore, female university students should undergo early-stage screening for FGIDs, and a comprehensive program should address their dietary habits and stress-coping skills. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Improving teamwork among mental health practitioners is crucial. However, there have been few intervention studies on teamwork enhancement among community mental health practitioners in South Korea. We aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Team Building Circle program (TBC) based on the restorative justice paradigm, which sought to promote integration and cohesion. The TBC was developed to improve conflict interpretation mind-set, interpersonal skills, and teamwork among practitioners in community mental health centers. We conducted a quasi-experimental study using a pre and posttest design with a non-equivalent control group. The participants were 44 practitioners from four community mental health centers. Data were collected before the implementation TBC (pretest), just after (posttest), and 3 months after TBC (follow-up test). A generalized estimating equation model was used for analysis. Our findings indicate that the intervention group had improved scores in the ability to cope with interpersonal stress in a constructive way, interpersonal relationship skills, and teamwork compared to the control group. To improve teamwork among community mental health practitioners, managers are encouraged to consider providing TBC intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

© 2019, The Author(s). Insulin regulates blood glucose levels by binding its receptor and stimulating downstream proteins through the insulin receptor substrate (IRS). Impaired insulin signalling leads to metabolic syndrome, but the regulation of this process is not well understood. Here, we describe a novel insulin signalling regulatory pathway involving TAZ. TAZ upregulates IRS1 and stimulates Akt- and Glut4-mediated glucose uptake in muscle cells. Muscle-specific TAZ-knockout mice shows significantly decreased Irs1 expression and insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, TAZ is required for Wnt signalling-induced Irs1 expression, as observed by decreased Irs1 expression and insulin sensitivity in muscle-specific APC- and TAZ-double-knockout mice. TAZ physically interacts with c-Jun and Tead4 to induce Irs1 transcription. Finally, statin administration decreases TAZ, IRS1 level and insulin sensitivity. However, in myoblasts, the statin-mediated decrease in insulin sensitivity is counteracted by the expression of a constitutively active TAZ mutant. These results suggest that TAZ is a novel insulin signalling activator that increases insulin sensitivity and couples Hippo/Wnt signalling and insulin sensitivity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze, through causal relationship, what influence hotel intelligent which is hotel information system has on the strategy, work process, employee satisfaction, financial results and customer satisfaction in Hotel business. Empirical findings of this research suggest that hotel information system has positive, direct & indirect effects on financial results and customer satisfaction. There have been a lot of improvements with the short-term & long-term strategy, employee satisfaction and work process by using Hotel information system.

34. A diguanylate cyclase acts as a cell division inhibitor in a two-step response to reductive and envelope stresses

Abstract

Bacteria use diverse nucleotide-based small molecules as second messengers to transduce various signals in their extra- and intracellular conditions, and to elicit appropriate cellular responses. The signaling molecule cyclic diguanylate (c-di-GMP) hasemerged as a ubiquitous nucleotide that controls a variety of cellular processes including motility, biofilm formation, virulence and cell differentiation. The intracellular levels of c-di-GMP are determined by the balance between its synthesis by diguanylate cyclases (DGCs) and degradation by phosphodiesterases (PDEs). Single bacterial species encode multiple DGC/PDEs harboring different sensory domains, surmised to integrate various input signals to regulate a common pool of c-di-GMP, which in turn regulates wideranging output processes. However, some c-di-GMP pathways appear to relay information selectively by spatial sequestration of particular DGC/PDEs. Here I discovered a new signaling pathway for YfiN, one of multiple DGCs found in E. coli and Salmonella. I show that YfiN interacts directly with components of the cell division machinery to inhibit division and growth, rather than acting through its product c-di-GMP. The DGC function of YfiN was known previously to be activated by a redox stress signal. My studies have revealed a second function, where redox-activated YfiN responds further to envelope stress by dynamically localizing to the division site and halting division. The unexpected bifunctionality of YfiN provides evidence that protein-protein interactions between c-di-GMP signaling components and their targets also confer signaling specificity, and reveals a new pathway for simultaneously inhibiting both cell division and cell growth in response to two stresses applied in a sequence.
