3. The Study of TVS Trigger Geometry and Triggered Vacuum Conditions

Abstract

This presentation focuses on the optimization of the trigger unit of a six-rod TVS. The different configurations of the trigger pin and of the trigger electrode have been considered to study the electric field distribution at the triple points of the unit embedded in the cathode. To optimize the field enhancement, electric field simulations with a planar and a circular heads of the trigger pin in combinations with a convex and a concave shaped trigger electrodes have been done. The simulations were done with an applied trigger pulse voltage of Utrigger = 5 kV and with a discharge voltage the main switch of Uswitch = 20 kV. The experimental values had been Utrigger = 40 kV and Uswitch = 5 kV. The simulation results show that the combination of a circular trigger pin head and a concave trigger electrode yields the highest electric field of 9.6 .106 V/m at the triple point. In-parallel experiments have been performed with those four trigger configurations. The results of the experiments however cannot yet clearly confirm the trend in the results of the field simulations., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures

22. Low Temperature Heat Treatment on the HWR Cavity

Abstract

Institute for Basic Science have been constructing Superconducting LINAC composed of quarter wave resonator (QWR) and half wave resonator (HWR). All QWR cavities have been completely fabricated and successfully tested to be assembled in QWR cryomodules. For now, we have been testing HWR cavities over 50%. For the testing period, the success rate experienced up and downs like we went through during the QWR tests. In many cases, we observed that some cavities did not reach requirement performance 2K although they showed high performance at 4K. We increased the temperature of heat treatment to cure the rapid Q drop at the high gradient and observed most cavities passed the test after heat treatment., Proceedings of the 20th International Conference on RF Superconductivity, SRF2021, East Lansing, MI, USA

23. Development of a Tuner Control System for Low-Energy Superconducting Linac at RAON

Abstract

We propose a tuner control system for low-energy superconducting linac at RAON. The frequency error of the superconducting cavities must be smaller than a few of Hz to operate in beam acceleration mode. To minimize the freuqency error as much as possible, the error is calculated in the low-level RF(LLRF), and the proposed tuner control system changes the superconducting cavity frequency by using a mechanical tuner and a motor attached to the cavity directly. This control system deals with not only the initial frequency error of the cavity but also the frequency drift of the cavity induced by external disturbance such as the slow fluctuation helium pressure automatically. In addition, an automatic proportional gain calibration technique is also proposed. Rare Isotope Science Project (RISP) in the Institute of Basic Science (IBS), South Korea, is now operating SRF test facility in Sindong, Daejeon. Sindong SRF test facility has three vertical test pits and three horizontal test bunkers, 900 W cryogenic system, RF power system, and radiation protection system.
