This study has two purposes. The first is to determine whether subordinates employ alternative combinations of emotion regulation strategies toward their supervisors beyond merely using surface and deep labor from the person-centered perspective. The second purpose is to understand why such acts of emotion regulation occur in interactions between employers and employees in the typical workplace. Utilizing latent profile analysis on data from 232 office employees in Beijing, China, collected using a two-stage sampling technique, four distinct supervisor-directed emotional labor profiles (i.e., deep actors, non-actors, moderators, and regulators) are identified. We find that these profiles are differentiated by several factors (i.e., individual identity, relational identity, and LMX orientations). Moreover, our findings suggest that employees exhibiting high levels of relational identity are more predisposed to act as deep actors, whereas individuals with high levels of individual identity are prone to being regulators as opposed to becoming deep actors, non-actors, or moderators. In addition, our results also suggest that LMX orientations have moderating effects on the relationships between self-identities and supervisor-directed emotional labor strategies. Overall, the results of this study expand the potential dimensionality of supervisor-directed emotion regulation strategies (e.g., regulating and non-acting) and bridge a gap in our understanding of the factors impacting supervisor-directed emotional labor. Imaging biomarkers support the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We aimed to determine whether combining automated brain volumetry on MRI and quantitative measurement of tau deposition on [18F] THK-5351 PET can aid discrimination of AD spectrum. From a prospective database in an IRB-approved multicenter study (NCT02656498), 113 subjects (32 healthy control, 55 mild cognitive impairment, and 26 Alzheimer disease) with baseline structural MRI and [18F] THK-5351 PET were included. Cortical volumes were quantified from FDA-approved software for automated volumetric MRI analysis (NeuroQuant). Standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR) was calculated from tau PET images for 6 composite FreeSurfer-derived regions-of-interests approximating in vivo Braak stage (Braak ROIs). On volumetric MRI analysis, stepwise logistic regression analyses identified the cingulate isthmus and inferior parietal lobule as significant regions in discriminating AD from HC and MCI. The combined model incorporating automated volumes of selected brain regions on MRI (cingulate isthmus, inferior parietal lobule, hippocampus) and SUVRs of Braak ROIs on [18F] THK-5351 PET showed higher performance than SUVRs of Braak ROIs on [18F] THK-5351 PET in discriminating AD from HC (0.98 vs 0.88, P = 0.033) but not in discriminating AD from MCI (0.85 vs 0.79, P = 0.178). The combined model showed comparable performance to automated volumes of selected brain regions on MRI in discriminating AD from HC (0.98 vs 0.94, P = 0.094) and MCI (0.85 vs 0.78; P = 0.065). We aimed to assess whether brain volumes may affect the results of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Eighty-one consecutive patients with PD (male:female 40:41), treated with DBS between June 2012 and December 2017, were enrolled. Total and regional brain volumes were measured using automated brain volumetry (NeuroQuant). The Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale motor score quotient was used to assess changes in clinical outcome and compare the preoperative regional brain volume in patients categorized into the higher motor improvement and lower motor improvement groups based on changes in the postoperative scores. The study groups showed significant volume differences in multiple brain areas. In the higher motor improvement group, the anterior cingulate and right thalamus showed high volumes after false discovery rate (FDR) correction. In the lower motor improvement group, the left caudate, paracentral, right primary sensory and left primary motor cortex showed high volume, but no area showed high volumes after FDR correction. Our data suggest that the effectiveness of DBS in patients with PD may be affected by decreased brain volume in different areas, including the cingulate gyrus and thalamus. Rigorous emission regulations and the advancements in combustion engines have forced researchers to develop new strategies for removing CO at low temperatures. The Cu/CeO 2 -ZrO 2 (Cu/CZ) catalyst has received an extensive attention due to its low cost and high CO oxidation activity at low temperatures. Nonetheless, the poor thermal stability of Cu/CZ remains as a major challenge for practical applications. In this study, we systematically investigated the effect of La doping on the hydrothermal stability of Cu/CZ. The La-doped catalyst, Cu/CZL, retained a high CO oxidation ability even after thermal aging at 800 °C for 20 h. La doping not only helped preserve the surface-active oxygen and oxygen storage capacity of Cu/CZ during thermal aging, but also enhanced its ability to efficiently convert intermediate surface carbonate species into CO 2. These promoting effects of La resulted in the excellent CO oxidation activity over the aged-Cu/CZL under the simulated exhaust condition, significantly outperforming the conventional counterpart, PtPd/γ-Al 2 O 3. Abstract We analyzed the 3-µm emission spectra of Saturn's southern auroral atmosphere observed by the Visual Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) on-board Cassini. Extracting adjacent 3-µm H 3 + , CH 4 , and C 2 H 6 emissions, we derived vertically-resolved spectral structures of polar haze between 375 and 925 km altitude. A comparison of the derived polar haze spectra with those of the relatively low-altitudinal (257–520 km) and low-latitudinal haze reported by Kim et al. (2012) indicates that the polar haze is dominated by aromatic hydrocarbons while the haze at lower latitudes mostly consists of aliphatic hydrocarbons. This spectral and chemical variation in the different latitudinal regions suggests a possibility that newly created haze particles at the high altitudes in the auroral regions of Saturn undergo an aging process during latitudinal advection and diffusion from the polar atmosphere to the low altitude and low latitudinal regions, while in the atmosphere of Titan, the aging process occurs during the vertical precipitation process of haze (Courtin et al., 2015a). However, there is a possibility that the aging process can occur during both the horizontal and vertical migrations. Functionalization of catalytic nanoparticles (NPs) on semiconductor metal oxide (SMO) sensing layer is an indispensable process to obtain improved sensitivity and selectivity for high performance chemical sensors. It is a critical challenge to achieve homogeneous distribution of nanoscale catalysts on SMO in consideration that gas sensing characteristics of SMO-based sensing layer are significantly influenced by the size and distribution of catalysts. Here, we propose a highly effective functionalization method to achieve well-distributed catalytic NPs onto one dimensional (1D) SMO nanofibers (NFs) using protein cage templates: apoferrtin. By simply replacing precursor in the apoferritin assisted method, not only precious catalyst such as Pt but also non-precious catalysts such as La and Cu were successfully synthesized in nanoscale ( i.e. , 3–5 nm). Furthermore, the apoferritin-encapsulated catalysts exhibited high dispersion property due to repulsive force between protein shells. For this reason, catalytic NPs were homogeneously decorated on ZnO NFs after electrospinning followed by calcination. Catalytic Pt NPs and Cu NPs functionalized ZnO NFs exhibited approximately 6.38-fold (R air /R gas = 13.07) and 2.95-fold (R air /R gas = 6.04) improved acetone response compared with the response (R air /R gas = 2.05) of pristine ZnO NFs. In the case of La NPs functionalized ZnO NFs, 9.31-fold improved nitrogen monoxide response (R air /R gas = 10.06) was achieved compared with the response of pristine ZnO NFs. The four catalyst-ZnO composite NFs successfully distinguished simulated breath components such as acetone, toluene, nitrogen monoxide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia with well-classified patterns by principal component analysis (PCA). This work demonstrated a robustness of synthetic and functionalization method using bio-inspired protein templates combined with electrospinning technique and a promising potential of using non-precious catalysts to establish diverse sensing material libraries that can be applicable to breath pattern recognition for diagnosis of diseases. In this work, a novel catalytic synthesis and functionalization method using apoferritin is used to fabricate RuO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) loaded WO 3 nanofibers (NFs) for potential diagnosis of diabetes. Catalytic ruthenium (Ru) NPs with very small average diameters of 1.8 ± 0.9 nm were synthesized using apoferritin which is a hollow protein cage, and were easily functionalized on WO 3 NFs by introducing electrospinning solution with W precursor and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). As-spun Ru NPs-loaded W precursor/PVP composite NFs were calcined at 600 °C for 1 h in air atmosphere to achieve RuO 2 -functionalized WO 3 NFs. The small size and uniform distribution of catalytic RuO 2 NPs were well maintained due to hollow nature of apoferritin cages after calcination. The chemo-resistive sensors using RuO 2 -functionalized WO 3 NFs showed significantly enhanced acetone (CH 3 COCH 3 ) sensing response (R air /R gas = 78.61–5 ppm), which was 7.4 times higher than the response (R air /R gas = 10.61–5 ppm) of pristine WO 3 NFs at highly humid atmosphere (95% RH). In addition, the RuO 2 -functionalized WO 3 NFs showed outstanding selectivity toward acetone gas in comparison with other gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), toluene (C 6 H 5 CH 3 ), ethanol (C 2 H 5 OH), pentane (C 5 H 12 ), ammonia (NH 3 ), hydrogen (H 2 ), and water vapor (H 2 O) at 5 ppm. We have derived homopause temperatures of 180–250 K for the 8-µm north-polar hot spot (8NPHS) of Jupiter by fitting CH 4 emission models to 3 and 8 µm spectra of the 8NPHS obtained 24 days apart in 2013. From the fits, we find that CH 4 mixing ratios at the 8NPHS are consistent with those reported by Kim et al. (2014) in equatorial regions. We propose possible mechanisms to account for the temperature of the 8NPHS homopause, which is relatively cool compared with the temperatures of other auroral regions, including locally-fixed and transient but energetic auroral particle precipitation. We have obtained 3.3–3.4-μm spectro-images of Jupiter including CH 4 and H 3 + emission lines from both polar regions at the Gemini North telescope. We find that the peak of the 3-μm CH 4 northern bright spot is located at ∼200° (SysIII) longitude, ∼20° west of the center of the 8-μm north-polar bright spot, and does not coincide with the 3-μm H 3 + bright spot. We derive high temperatures (500–850 K) from CH 4 rotational lines on the bright spots of both polar regions, above the 1-μbar pressure level, while we find cooler temperatures (<350 K) over the 8-μm spot. The intensity ratios of the various 3-μm vibrational bands of CH 4 are roughly constant, indicating that the upper states of these bands are mostly populated by non-thermal excitation mechanisms, such as auroral particle precipitation and/or Joule heating, in contrast with the 8-μm thermal emission. This study was undertaken to describe the clinical and imaging characteristics of patients with chorea associated with nonketotic hyperglycemia (C-NKH) in comparison with patients with chorea associated with uremia (C-URE). We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of consecutive 10 C-NKH and five C-URE patients who were treated between January 1, 2001 and January 31, 2013. Women were more frequently affected by C-NKH (70% vs. 30%) and C-URE (80% vs. 20%) compared with men. The C-NKH patients demonstrated T1-hyperintense and inhomogeneous lesions in the basal ganglia, whereas C-URE patients demonstrated T2-hyperintense and homogeneous lesions in the basal ganglia. The mean time for chorea resolution after treatment was significantly shorter in C-NKH patients than in C-URE patients (4.4 ± 2.6 d vs. 73.8 ± 14.2 d, respectively; P = 0.005). Pore-loaded WO3 nanofibers (NFs) functionalized with spherical catalyst films were achieved via electrospinning combined by the sacrificial templating route using layer-by-layer (LbL) catalyst assembled polystyrene (PS) colloids. Our study was intended to demonstrate the different signal intensity (SI) pattern of the putamen seen on susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) between that of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Parkinsonism-predominant multiple system atrophy (MSA-P), and to correlate it with 18 F-flurodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography ( 18 F-FDG PET). Thirty patients with PD and 17 with MSA-P underwent SWI, and 18 F-FDG PET were included. The SI was measured on SWI in the anterior and posterior halves of the putamen using a region-of-interest (ROI) on both sides. The normalized regional glucose metabolism (standardized uptake value ratio, SUVR) was measured on co-registered 18 F-FDG PET images using the ROI obtained with SWI. Analysis included a group-level comparison of the SI values obtained on SWI, and these results were correlated with the SUVR on 18 F-FDG PET. The SIs of the bilateral posterior, dominant-side of the posterior, mean values of the bilateral anterior and posterior halves of the putamen on SWI, differed significantly between the two groups ( P < 0.001, respectively). The SUVR of the all locations also differed significantly between PD and MSA-P ( P < 0.001, respectively). There was a moderate degree of positive correlation between the SI and the SUVR of the left posterior half, and mean value of the bilateral posterior putamen in MSA-P ( r = 0.634, P = 0.006, r = 0.492, P = 0.045). In conclusion, the low SI seen on the posterior putamen may differentiate MSA-P from PD. Furthermore, low SI in the putamen correlated with hypometabolism on 18 F-FDG PET. We present numerical studies of the imaging and caustic properties of the singular isothermal sphere (SIS) under a wide range of external shear (from 0.0 to 2.0). Using a direct inverse-mapping formula for this lensing system,we investigate various lensing properties for both low-shear (i.e. γ < 1.0) and high-shear (i.e. γ > 1.0) cases: the image separations, the total or individual magnifications, the flux ratios of two images, the maximum number of images and the lensing cross-sections. We systematically analyse the effective lensing cross-sections of double-lensing and quadruple-lensing systems, based on the radio luminosity function obtained by the Jodrell–VLA Astrometric Survey (JVAS) and the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey (CLASS). We find that the limit of a survey selection bias (i.e. between brighter and fainter images) preferentially reduces the effective lensing cross-sections of two-image lensing systems. By considering the effects of survey selection bias, we demonstrate that the long-standing anomaly over the high quads-to-doubles ratios (i.e. 50–70 per cent for JVAS and CLASS) can be explained by the moderate effective shear of 0.16–0.18, which is half that of previous estimates. Abstract: Vertically-resolved spectral characteristics of the Titanian haze in the 2-μm wavelength range were derived from solar occultation spectra measured by Cassini/VIMS on January 15, 2006. At the various altitudes probed by the solar occultation measurements, we reproduced the observed spectra using a radiative transfer program including absorption by CH4 ro-vibrational bands, collision-induced absorption by N2–N2 pairs, and H2–N2 dimers, as well as absorption and scattering by the haze particles. The retrieved optical depth spectra (or τ-spectra) for the haze show marked variations in the 2.1–2.8μm range, with peaks near 2.30 and 2.35μm, and the relative amplitude of these peaks changing with altitude. The gross spectral shape of the τ-spectra is found similar to the typical 2-μm absorption spectra of the alkane group of hydrocarbon (C n H2n+2) ices. The τ-spectra retrieved at 2μm and those previously retrieved at 3μm by Kim et al. (2011) are simultaneously reproduced by combinations of 2- and 3-μm absorbance spectra of alkane ices such as CH4, C2H6, C5H12, C6H14, with the addition of a nitrile ice, CH3CN. These combinations are neither unique nor limited and need more fine-tuning to fit the detailed features of the τ-spectra. There is a need for additional laboratory measurements of absorbance and indices of refraction for a wider variety of hydrocarbon and nitrile ices in the temperature range relevant to Titan. In a bi-directional relay channel, two nodes wish to exchange independent messages over a shared wireless half-duplex channel with the help of a relay. In this paper, we derive achievable rate regions for four new half-duplex protocols and compare these to four existing half-duplex protocols and outer bounds. In time, our protocols consist of either two or three phases. In the two phase protocols, both users simultaneously transmit during the first phase and the relay alone transmits during the second phase, while in the three phase protocol the two users sequentially transmit followed by a transmission from the relay. The relay may forward information in one of four manners; we outline existing amplify and forward (AF), decode and forward (DF), lattice based, and compress and forward (CF) relaying schemes and introduce the novel mixed forward scheme. The latter is a combination of CF in one direction and DF in the other. We derive achievable rate regions for the CF and Mixed relaying schemes for the two and three phase protocols. We provide a comprehensive treatment of eight possible half-duplex bi-directional relaying protocols in Gaussian noise, obtaining their relative performance under different SNR and relay geometries. Abstract: We have reanalyzed the high-resolution spectrum of Titan between 2.87 and 3.12 μm observed with NIRSPEC/Keck II on 2001 Nov. 21 in southern summer, using updated CH3D and C2H6 line-by-line models. From new synthetic spectra, we identify all but a few of the previously unidentified significant absorption spectral features in this wavelength range as due to these two species, both of which had been previously detected by Voyager and ground-based observations at other wavelengths. We also derive opacities and reflectivities of haze particles as functions of altitude for the 2.87–2.92 μm wavelength range, where Titan''s atmosphere is partially transparent down to the surface. The extinction per unit altitude is observed to increase from 100 km (∼8 mbar) toward lower altitude. The derived total optical depth is approximately 1.1 for the 2.87–2.92 μm range. At wavelengths increasing beyond 2.92 μm the haze layers become much more optically thick, and the surface is rapidly hidden from view. These conclusions apply to equatorial and southern-temperate regions on Titan, excluding polar regions. We also find it unlikely that there is a large enhancement of the tropospheric CH4 mole fraction over the value reported from analysis of the Huygens/GCMS observations. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The CD79α (immunoglobulin α, Igα), a part of B cell receptor (BCR) complex, forms a heterodimer with CD79β (Igβ) and plays an important role in the B cell signaling. In this study, we have cloned pig Cd79a cDNA using RT-PCR and determined the complete cDNA sequence of pig Cd79a. Pig Cd79a cDNA contains an open reading frame (672bp) encoding 223 amino acids. The putative amino acid identity of pig CD79α with those of human, cattle and mouse are 70.4, 81.4, and 67.7%, respectively. Alignment of the CD79α amino acid sequence with those of mammalian species showed that the extracellular domain is the most divergent, whereas transmembrane region and cytoplasmic tail including immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif (ITAM) are largely conserved. Pig Cd79a mRNA was detected mainly in lymphoid tissues by RT-PCR. The highest level of Cd79a mRNA expression was observed in mesenteric lymph node and spleen. Relatively low level of Cd79a mRNA expression was observed in lung, thymus and small intestine. The lowest level of Cd79a mRNA expression was observed in large intestine. Flow cytometry analyses demonstrated that human CD79α antibody recognizes a CD79α in pig B cells. Further, immunohistochemistry analysis using human CD79α antibody on pig spleen was revealed that CD79α is strongly expressed in the follicular mantle zone rather than in the germinal center. Abstract: CD81, also known as TAPA-1 (target of antiproliferative antibody 1), is a member of the tetraspanin family of proteins and a component of the B cell co-receptor complex. Several studies have shown that CD81 plays significant roles in a variety of immune responses, including activation of B cells and T cells. In this study, we cloned pig Cd81 cDNA using RT-PCR coupled with rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE)-PCR and determined the complete cDNA sequence of pig Cd81. Pig Cd81 cDNA contains an open reading frame (711bp) encoding 236 amino acids. The identity of pig CD81 with those of human, cattle, rat, and mouse are 90.30%, 92.26%, 86.22%, and 86.22%, respectively. Alignment of the CD81 amino acid sequence with those of mammalian species showed that the large extracellular loop (LEL) is the most divergent, whereas other domains are largely conserved. Pig Cd81 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR in a broad range of tissues, including lymphoid tissues as well as nonlymphoid tissues, indicated variety of cellular functions of CD81 in most pig tissues. Flow cytometry analyses demonstrated that human CD81 antibody recognizes a pig CD81 on the cell surface. Further, immunohistochemistry analysis using human CD81 antibody on pig spleen was revealed that CD81 expression is widely diffused in spleen tissue. Abstract: Feasibility of electrokinetic (EK) process combined with Fenton-like reaction was investigated for the removal of phenanthrene in a two-dimensional cell. Sandy soil and bentonite were selected as a model soil and a filling material to inhibit the leak of electrolyte solution within the electrode reservoirs into the soil by hydraulic pressure difference, respectively. The effects of parameters including current, electroosmotic flow (EOF), electrolyte pH, and moisture content on the removal efficiency were examined under constant voltage. At the end of operation for 21 days, the concentration of phenanthrene near the anode was lower than the other positions of soil specimen and increased gradually towards the cathode because hydrogen peroxide solution was supplied from anode to cathode region following the direction of EOF. The concentration of phenanthrene at the bottom soil was lower than that at the top soil. Because capillary attraction in the sandy soil with high porosity was too low to maintain appropriate moisture at the top of the cell, EOF moved through the bottom soil with higher moisture content. Overall removal efficiency at 140 V was 81.6%, which was higher than 68.9% at 100 V because total EOF increased by a factor of 1.5 upon increase of the voltage from 100 to 140 V. Abstract: Ex situ electrokinetic (EK) bioremediation of a laboratory-prepared pentadecane-contaminated kaolinite was carried out. Extraneous bacteria and ionic nutrients were continuously supplied to the soil specimen by a new electrolyte circulation method, which controlled electrical pH change of electrolyte solution to keep bacterial activity. During the EK bioremediation the anode region showed the highest colony forming unit (CFU) due to electrical attraction between anode and bacteria. Simultaneous increases of CFU and uniform pentadecane removal in most soil regions demonstrated that electro-osmosis as well as electrophoresis affected the bacterial transport in soil. At 3.13mA/cm2, increase in soil temperature to above 45°C inhibited bacterial activity, which caused the decrease of removal efficiency. The removal amount of pentadecane increased with initial pentadecane concentration at the same current densities (0.63 and 1.88mA/cm2) because of the increased amount of weakly bound pentadecane onto the soil surface. The highest removal efficiency (77.6%) was obtained at 0.63mA/cm2 for 1000mg/kg pentadecane after 14 days. Consequently, the present methods of EK bioremediation demonstrated superiority over the conventional bioremediation, which had inherent demerits of slow degradation and low removal efficiency. Abstract: The recurrence of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in transplants is a well-known problem in pediatric renal transplantation (Tx). Recently, the race of the recipient was recognized as a major variable associated with disease recurrence. In view of this finding, we report on our single-center experience of FSGS recurrence in Korean children, an ethnically homogeneous Far East Asian population. Clinical records and renal biopsy specimens, both native and graft, were reviewed for all pediatric renal Txs (recipient age ≤ 18 yr) performed at Seoul National University Hospital from 1984 to 1999. Twenty-two children with primary FSGS received 22 allografts for renal replacement. The mean age of disease onset in these patients was 5.9 yr. The grafts were from 12 living-related, six living-unrelated, and four cadaveric donors, and all recipients were immunosuppressed with cyclosporin A (CsA)-based regimens. Post-transplant recurrence of FSGS was confirmed in nine patients (41%). Long-term graft survival in recurrent and non-recurrent groups was not significantly different. Risk factor analysis showed that patients with a disease duration shorter than 48 months (odds ratio 11.7, 95% CI 1.53–89.1) and a glomerulosclerosis percentage of < 55% by renal biopsy (odds ratio 16.0, 95% CI 1.45–176) were at greater risk of disease recurrence. These results suggest that Korean children are similar to non-African-American youngsters in the USA and Europe with respect to post-transplant recurrence of FSGS. We have obtained Gemini/GNIRS 3.3–3.4 μm spectra of Jupiter at 65o North latitude over a range of longitudes roughly centered on the 8-μm CH 4 north polar hot spot (8CNPHS). The spectra were measured on four occasions during a four-month period in 2018, in order to search for variability of the 3-μm emissions of CH 4 and C 2 H 6. The observed locations of the brightest spots of the C 2 H 6 and CH 4 emissions at 65oN differed in longitude typically by 20o during this period. The peak emission intensities of these species showed large variations, with the highest intensities 3–4 times greater than the lowest intensities. In addition, the brightest 3-μm CH 4 emissions and hottest temperatures at the 8CNPHS were significantly less than those at the 3-μm CH 4 north polar hot spot (3CNPHS, Kim et al., 2015). Recently, Sinclair et al. (2019) reported a coincidence between solar wind dynamical pressure and the 8-μm brightening of the 8CNPHS. In contrast, we find lack of correlation in our data between the 3-μm hydrocarbon emission intensities at the 8CNPHS and the solar wind strength. We also find lack of correlation between H 3 + intensities and the solar wind strength during the period. However, due to the limited observational data, it is too early to conclude whether this lack of correlation indicates that the solar wind activity induced no significant changes in local temperatures (<40 K) and/or mixing ratios of these molecules. Our observing period was close to the historic grand solar minimum. Nanostructured electrodes and their flexible integrated systems have great potential for many applications, including electrochemical energy storage, electrocatalysis and solid-state memory devices, given their ability to improve faradaic reaction sites by large surface area. Although many processing techniques have been employed to fabricate nanostructured electrodes onto flexible substrates, these present limitations in terms of achieving flexible electrodes with high mechanical stability. In this study, the adhesion, mechanical properties and flexibility of TiN nanotube arrays on a Pt substrate were improved using a Ti interlayer. Highly ordered and well-aligned TiN nanotube arrays were fabricated on a Pt substrate using a template-assisted method with an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template and atomic layer deposition (ALD) system. We show that with the use of a Ti interlayer between the TiN nanotube arrays and Pt substrate, the TiN nanotube arrays could perfectly attach to the Pt substrate without delamination and faceted phenomena. Furthermore, the I-V curve measurements confirmed that the electric contact between the TiN nanotube arrays and substrate for use as an electrode was excellent, and its flexibility was also good for use in flexible electronic devices. We aimed to evaluate the pooled incidence of central vein sign on T2*-weighted images from patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), and to determine the diagnostic performance of this central vein sign for differentiating MS from other white matter lesions and provide an optimal cut-off value. A computerized systematic search of the literature in PUBMED and EMBASE was conducted up to December 14, 2018. Original articles investigating central vein sign on T2*-weighted images of patients with MS were selected. The pooled incidence was obtained using random-effects model. The pooled sensitivity and specificity were obtained using a bivariate random-effects model. An optimal cut-off value for the proportion of lesions with a central vein sign was calculated from those studies providing individual patient data. Twenty-one eligible articles covering 501 patients with MS were included. The pooled incidence of central vein sign at the level of individual lesion in patients with MS was 74% (95% CI, 65–82%). The pooled sensitivity and pooled specificity for the diagnostic performance of the central vein sign were 98% (95% CI, 92–100%) and 97% (95% CI, 91–99%), respectively. The area under the HSROC curve was 1.00 (95% CI, 0.99–1.00). The optimal cut-off value for the proportion of lesions with a central vein sign was found to be 45%. Although various T2*-weighted images have been used across studies, the current evidence supports the use of the central vein sign on T2*-weighted images to differentiate MS from other white matter lesions. Conductive porous materials having a high surface reactivity offer great promise for a broad range of applications. However, a general and scalable synthesis of such materials remains challenging. In this work, the facile synthesis of catalytic metal nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in 2D metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is reported as highly active and conductive porous materials. After the assembly of 2D conductive MOFs (C‐MOFs), i.e., Cu3(hexahydroxytriphenylene)2 [Cu3(HHTP)2], Pd or Pt NPs are functionalized within the cavities of C‐MOFs by infiltration of metal ions and subsequent reduction. The unique structure of Cu3(HHTP)2 with a cavity size of 2 nm confines the bulk growth of metal NPs, resulting in ultra‐small (≈2 nm) and well‐dispersed metal NPs loaded in 2D C‐MOFs. The Pd or Pt NPs‐loaded Cu3(HHTP)2 exhibits remarkably improved NO2 sensing performance at room temperature due to the high reactivity of catalytic metal NPs and the high porosity of C‐MOFs. Quantification of diffusion restriction lesions in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) may provide information of the disease burden. We aim to develop an automatic segmentation model for sCJD and to evaluate the volume of disease extent as a prognostic marker for overall survival. Fifty-six patients (mean age ± SD, 61.2 ± 9.9 years) were included from February 2000 to July 2020. A threshold-based segmentation was used to obtain abnormal signal intensity masks. Segmented volumes were compared with the visual grade. The Dice similarity coefficient was calculated to measure the similarity between the automatic vs. manual segmentation. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was performed to evaluate the volume of disease extent as a prognostic marker. The automatic segmentation showed good correlation with the visual grading. The cortical lesion volumes significantly increased as the visual grade aggravated (extensive: 112.9 ± 73.2; moderate: 45.4 ± 30.4; minimal involvement: 29.6 ± 18.1 mm3) (P < 0.001). The deep gray matter lesion volumes were significantly higher for positive than for negative involvement of the deep gray matter (5.6 ± 4.6 mm3 vs. 1.0 ± 1.3 mm3, P < 0.001). The mean Dice similarity coefficients were 0.90 and 0.94 for cortical and deep gray matter lesions, respectively. Objectives: To develop and validate an automatic classification algorithm for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods and materials: This study evaluated a high-performance interpretable network algorithm (TabNet) and compared its performance with that of XGBoost, a widely used classifier. Brain segmentation was performed using a commercially approved software. TabNet and XGBoost were trained on the volumes or radiomics features of 102 segmented regions for classifying subjects into AD, MCI, or cognitively normal (CN) groups. The diagnostic performances of the two algorithms were compared using areas under the curves (AUCs). Additionally, 20 deep learning–based AD signature areas were investigated. Results: Between December 2014 and March 2017, 161 AD, 153 MCI, and 306 CN cases were enrolled. Another 120 AD, 90 MCI, and 141 CN cases were included for the internal validation. Public datasets were used for external validation. TabNet with volume features had an AUC of 0.951 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.947–0.955) for AD vs CN, which was similar to that of XGBoost (0.953 [95% CI, 0.951–0.955], p = 0.41). External validation revealed the similar performances of two classifiers using volume features (0.871 vs. 0.871, p = 0.86). Likewise, two algorithms showed similar performances with one another in classifying MCI. The addition of radiomics data did not improve the performance of TabNet. TabNet and XGBoost focused on the same 13/20 regions of interest, including the hippocampus, inferior lateral ventricle, and entorhinal cortex. Conclusions: TabNet shows high performance in AD classification and detailed interpretation of the selected regions. Clinical relevance statement: Using a high-performance interpretable deep learning network, the automatic classification algorithm assisted in accurate Alzheimer's disease detection using 3D T1-weighted brain MRI and detailed interpretation of the selected regions. Purpose: To assess the in vivo whole-brain relationship between uptake of [18F]THK-5351 on PET and cortical atrophy on structural MRI according to the presence and severity of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Materials and methods: Sixty-five participants (21 normal controls, 32 mild cognitive impairment [MCI] subjects, and 12 AD patients) were enrolled from a prospective multicenter clinical trial (NCT02656498). Structural MRI and [18F]THK-5351 PET were performed within a 2-month interval. Cortical volume and standardized uptake value ratios (SUVR) were calculated from MRI and PET images, respectively, for 35 FreeSurfer-derived cortical regions. Pearson's correlation coefficients between SUVR and cortical volume were calculated for the same regions, and correlated regions were compared according to disease severity and β-amyloid PET positivity. Results: No significantly correlated regions were found in the normal controls. Negative correlations between SUVR and cortical volume were found in the MCI and AD groups, mainly in limbic locations in MCI and isocortical locations in AD. The AD group exhibited stronger correlations (r = −0.576–0.781) than the MCI group (r = 0.368–0.571). Hippocampal atrophy did not show any correlation with SUVR in the β-amyloid PET-negative group, but negatively correlated with SUVR (r = −0.494, P =.012) in the β-amyloid PET-positive group. Conclusions: Regional THK-5351 uptake correlated more strongly with cortical atrophy in AD compared with MCI, thereby demonstrating a close relationship between the neuro-pathologic process and cortical atrophy. Hippocampal atrophy was associated with both β-amyloid and THK-5351 uptake, possibly reflecting an interaction between β-amyloid and tau deposition in the neurodegeneration process. We aimed to investigate the detection rate of brain MR and MR angiography for neuroimaging abnormality in newly diagnosed left-sided infective endocarditis patients with/without neurological symptoms. This retrospective study included consecutive patients with definite or possible left-sided infective endocarditis according to the modified Duke criteria who underwent brain MRI and MR angiography between March 2015 and October 2020. The detection rate for neuroimaging abnormality on MRI was defined as the number of patients with positive brain MRI findings divided by the number of patients with left-sided infective endocarditis. Positive imaging findings included acute ischemic lesions, cerebral microbleeds, hemorrhagic lesions, and infectious aneurysms. In addition, aneurysm rupture rate and median period to aneurysm rupture were evaluated on follow-up studies. A total 115 patients (mean age: 55 years ± 19; 65 men) were included. The detection rate for neuroimaging abnormality was 77% (89/115). The detection rate in patients without neurological symptoms was 70% (56/80). Acute ischemic lesions, cerebral microbleeds, and hemorrhagic lesions including superficial siderosis and intracranial hemorrhage were detected on MRI in 56% (64/115), 57% (66/115), and 20% (23/115) of patients, respectively. In particular, infectious aneurysms were detected on MR angiography in 3% of patients (4/115), but MR angiography in 5 patients (4.3%) was insignificant for infectious aneurysm, which were detected using CT angiography (n = 3) and digital subtraction angiography (n = 2) during follow-up. Among the 9 infectious aneurysm patients, aneurysm rupture occurred in 4 (44%), with a median period of aneurysm rupture of 5 days. The detection rate of brain MRI for neuroimaging abnormality in newly diagnosed left-sided infective endocarditis patients was high (77%), even without neurological symptoms (70%). Objectives: To develop and validate a nomogram based on MRI features for predicting iNPH. Methods: Patients aged ≥ 60 years (clinically diagnosed with iNPH, Parkinson's disease, or Alzheimer's disease or healthy controls) who underwent MRI including three-dimensional T1-weighted volumetric MRI were retrospectively identified from two tertiary referral hospitals (one hospital for derivation set and the other for validation set). Clinical and imaging features for iNPH were assessed. Deep learning–based brain segmentation software was used for 3D volumetry. A prediction model was developed using logistic regression and transformed into a nomogram. The performance of the nomogram was assessed with respect to discrimination and calibration abilities. The nomogram was internally and externally validated. Results: A total of 452 patients (mean age ± SD, 73.2 ± 6.5 years; 200 men) were evaluated as the derivation set. One hundred eleven and 341 patients were categorized into the iNPH and non-iNPH groups, respectively. In multivariable analysis, high-convexity tightness (odds ratio [OR], 35.1; 95% CI: 4.5, 275.5), callosal angle < 90° (OR, 12.5; 95% CI: 3.1, 50.0), and normalized lateral ventricle volume (OR, 4.2; 95% CI: 2.7, 6.7) were associated with iNPH. The nomogram combining these three variables showed an area under the curve of 0.995 (95% CI: 0.991, 0.999) in the study sample, 0.994 (95% CI: 0.990, 0.998) in the internal validation sample, and 0.969 (95% CI: 0.940, 0.997) in the external validation sample. Conclusion: A brain morphometry–based nomogram including high-convexity tightness, callosal angle < 90°, and normalized lateral ventricle volume can help accurately estimate the probability of iNPH. Introduction: The number of brain MRI with contrast media performed in patients with cognitive impairment has increased without universal agreement. We aimed to evaluate the detection rate of contrast-enhanced brain MRI in patients with cognitive impairment. Materials and methods: This single-institution, retrospective study included 4,838 patients who attended outpatient clinics for cognitive impairment evaluation and underwent brain MRI with or without contrast enhancement from December 2015 to February 2020. Patients who tested positive for cognitive impairment were followed-up to confirm whether the result was true-positive and provide follow-up management. Detection rate was defined as the proportion of patients with true-positive results and was compared between groups with and without contrast enhancement. Individual matching in a 1:2 ratio according to age, sex, and year of test was performed. Results: The overall detection rates of brain MRI with and without contrast media were 4.7% (57/1,203; 95% CI: 3.6%–6.1%) and 1.8% (65/3,635; 95% CI: 1.4%–2.3%), respectively (P<0.001); individual matching demonstrated similar results (4.7% and 1.9%). Among 1,203 patients with contrast media, 3.6% was only detectable with the aid of contrast media. The proportion of patients who underwent follow-up imaging or treatment for the detected lesions were significantly higher in the group with contrast media (2.0% and 0.6%, P <.001). Conclusions: Detection rate of brain MRI for lesions only detectable with contrast media in patients with cognitive impairment was not high enough and further study is needed to identify whom would truly benefit with contrast media. The aim of the present study was to predict amyloid-beta positivity using a conventional T1-weighted image, radiomics, and a diffusion-tensor image obtained by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We included 186 patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who underwent Florbetaben positron emission tomography (PET), MRI (three-dimensional T1-weighted and diffusion-tensor images), and neuropsychological tests at the Asan Medical Center. We developed a stepwise machine learning algorithm using demographics, T1 MRI features (volume, cortical thickness and radiomics), and diffusion-tensor image to distinguish amyloid-beta positivity on Florbetaben PET. We compared the performance of each algorithm based on the MRI features used. The study population included 72 patients with MCI in the amyloid-beta-negative group and 114 patients with MCI in the amyloid-beta-positive group. The machine learning algorithm using T1 volume performed better than that using only clinical information (mean area under the curve [AUC]: 0.73 vs. 0.69, p < 0.001). The machine learning algorithm using T1 volume showed better performance than that using cortical thickness (mean AUC: 0.73 vs. 0.68, p < 0.001) or texture (mean AUC: 0.73 vs. 0.71, p = 0.002). The performance of the machine learning algorithm using fractional anisotropy in addition to T1 volume was not better than that using T1 volume alone (mean AUC: 0.73 vs. 0.73, p = 0.60). Background: The underlying mechanism of transcortical sensory aphasia (TSA) caused by lesions occurring in the left frontal lobe remains unclear. We attempted to investigate the mechanism with the use of functional MRI (fMRI). Methods: We studied 2 patients with TSA after a left frontal infarction identified by diffusion-weighted MRI. As control subjects, a patient with transcortical motor aphasia and a healthy normal adult were chosen. The Korean version of Western Aphasia Battery was performed initially and at 3 months post stroke. We performed fMRI using verb generation and sentence completion tasks. Resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI) was also obtained for network-level analysis initially and at 3 months post stroke. Results: The results of diffusion- and perfusion-weighted MRI revealed no diffusion-perfusion mismatch. Initial fMRI in patients with TSA showed no reversed inter-/intrahemispheric activation patterns. rsfMRI showed significantly decreased resting-state functional connectivity in the language network in patients with TSA compared with the control subjects. Follow-up rs-fMRI studies showed improvement in functional connectivity along with the recovery of patients' language function. Conclusion: Our data showed that the auditory comprehension deficits in patients with frontal lobe infarcts is attributed to difficulty accessing the posterior language area due to functional disconnection between language centers in the acute stage of stroke. Objectives: To investigate the pooled diagnostic yield of MR myelography in patients with newly diagnosed spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH). Methods: A literature search of the MEDLINE/PubMed and Embase databases was conducted until July 25, 2021, including studies with the following inclusion criteria: (a) population: patients with newly diagnosed SIH; (b) diagnostic modality: MR myelography or MR myelography with intrathecal gadolinium for evaluation of CSF leakage; (c) outcomes: diagnostic yield of MR myelography or MR myelography with intrathecal gadolinium. The risk of bias was evaluated using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 tool. DerSimonian–Laird random-effects modeling was used to calculate the pooled estimates. Subgroup analysis regarding epidural fluid collection and meta-regression were additionally performed. Results: Fifteen studies with 643 patients were included. Eight studies used MR myelography with intrathecal gadolinium, and 11 used MR myelography. The overall quality of the included studies was moderate. The pooled diagnostic yield of MR myelography was 86% (95% CI, 80–91%) and that of MR myelography with intrathecal gadolinium was 83% (95% CI, 51–96%). There was no significant difference in pooled diagnostic yield between MR myelography and MR myelography with intrathecal gadolinium (p = 0.512). In subgroup analysis, the pooled diagnostic yield of the epidural fluid collection was 91% (95% CI, 84–94%). In meta-regression, the diagnostic yield was unaffected regardless of consecutive enrollment, magnet strength, or 2D/3D. Conclusions: MR myelography had a high diagnostic yield in patients with SIH. MR myelography is non-invasive and not inferior to MR myelography with intrathecal gadolinium. Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of hippocampal volumetry for Alzheimer's disease (AD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods: The MEDLINE and Embase databases were searched for articles that evaluated the diagnostic performance of hippocampal volumetry in differentiating AD or MCI from normal controls, published up to March 6, 2022. The quality of the articles was evaluated by the QUADAS-2 tool. A bivariate random-effects model was used to pool sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve. Sensitivity analysis and meta-regression were conducted to explain study heterogeneity. The diagnostic performance of entorhinal cortex volumetry was also pooled. Results: Thirty-three articles (5157 patients) were included. The pooled sensitivity and specificity for AD were 82% (95% confidence interval [CI], 77–86%) and 87% (95% CI, 82–91%), whereas those for MCI were 60% (95% CI, 51–69%) and 75% (95% CI, 67–81%), respectively. No difference in the diagnostic performance was observed between automatic and manual segmentation (p = 0.11). MMSE scores, study design, and the reference standard being used were associated with study heterogeneity (p < 0.01). Subgroup analysis demonstrated a higher diagnostic performance of entorhinal cortex volumetry for both AD (pooled sensitivity: 88% vs. 79%, specificity: 92% vs. 89%, p = 0.07) and MCI (pooled sensitivity: 71% vs. 55%, specificity: 83% vs. 68%, p = 0.06). Conclusions: Our meta-analysis demonstrated good diagnostic performance of hippocampal volumetry for AD or MCI. Entorhinal cortex volumetry might have superior diagnostic performance to hippocampal volumetry. However, due to a small number of studies, the diagnostic performance of entorhinal cortex volumetry is yet to be determined. Objective: There is a paucity of large cohort-based evidence regarding the need and added value of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in patients attending outpatient clinic for cognitive impairment. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic yield of DWI in patients attending outpatient clinic for cognitive impairment. Materials and methods: This retrospective, observational, single-institution study included 3,298 consecutive patients (mean age ± SD, 71 years ± 10; 1,976 women) attending outpatient clinic for cognitive impairment with clinical dementia rating ≥ 0.5 who underwent brain MRI with DWI from January 2010 to February 2020. Diagnostic yield was defined as the proportion of patients in whom DWI supported the diagnosis that underlies cognitive impairment among all patients. Subgroup analyses were performed by age group and sex, and the Chi-square test was performed to compare the diagnostic yields between groups. Results: The overall diagnostic yield of DWI in patients with cognitive impairment was 3.2% (106/3,298; 95% CI, 2.6–3.9%). The diagnostic yield was 2.5% (83/3,298) for acute or subacute infarct, which included recent small subcortical infarct for which the diagnostic yield was 1.6% (54/3,298). The diagnostic yield was 0.33% (11/3,298) for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), 0.15% (5/3,298) for transient global amnesia (TGA), 0.12% (4/3,298) for encephalitis and 0.09% (3/3,298) for lymphoma. There was a trend towards a higher diagnostic yield in the older age group with age ≥ 70 years old (3.6% vs 2.6%, P =.12). There was an incremental increase in the diagnostic yield from the age group 60–69 years (2.6%; 20/773) to 90–99 years (8.0%; 2/25). Conclusion: Despite its low overall diagnostic yield, DWI supported the diagnosis of acute or subacute infarct, CJD, TGA, encephalitis and lymphoma that underlie cognitive impairment, and there was a trend towards a higher diagnostic yield in the older age group. Purpose: To validate the diagnostic performance of commercially available, deep learning-based automatic white matter hyperintensity (WMH) segmentation algorithm for classifying the grades of the Fazekas scale and differentiating subcortical vascular dementia. Methods: This retrospective, observational, single-institution study investigated the diagnostic performance of a deep learning-based automatic WMH volume segmentation to classify the grades of the Fazekas scale and differentiate subcortical vascular dementia. The VUNO Med-DeepBrain was used for the WMH segmentation system. The system for segmentation of WMH was designed with convolutional neural networks, in which the input image was comprised of a pre-processed axial FLAIR image, and the output was a segmented WMH mask and its volume. Patients presented with memory complaint between March 2017 and June 2018 were included and were split into training (March 2017–March 2018, n = 596) and internal validation test set (April 2018–June 2018, n = 204). Results: Optimal cut-off values to categorize WMH volume as normal vs. mild/moderate/severe, normal/mild vs. moderate/severe, and normal/mild/moderate vs. severe were 3.4 mL, 9.6 mL, and 17.1 mL, respectively, and the AUC were 0.921, 0.956 and 0.960, respectively. When differentiating normal/mild vs. moderate/severe using WMH volume in the test set, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 96.4%, 89.9%, and 91.7%, respectively. For distinguishing subcortical vascular dementia from others using WMH volume, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 83.3%, 84.3%, and 84.3%, respectively. Conclusion: Deep learning-based automatic WMH segmentation may be an accurate and promising method for classifying the grades of the Fazekas scale and differentiating subcortical vascular dementia. 1D metal-oxide nanotube (NT) structures have attracted considerable attention for applications in chemical sensors due to their high surface area and unique chemical and physical properties. Moreover, bimodal pores, i.e., meso- and macro-sized pores, which are formed on the shell of NTs, can further facilitate gas penetration into the sensing layers, leading to much improved sensing properties. However, thin-walled NTs with bimodal pore distribution have been rarely fabricated due to the limitations of synthetic methods. Here, Ostwald ripening-driven electrospinning combined with sacrificial templating route using polystyrene (PS) colloid and bioinspired protein is firstly proposed for producing both bi-modal pores and catalyst-loaded thin-walled SnO2 NTs. Homogeneous catalyst loading on porous SnO2 NTs is achieved by the protein cage that contains catalysts and PS colloids and protein shells are thermally decomposed during calcination of electrospun fibers, resulting in the creation of dual-sized pores on NTs. Pt catalyst decorated porous SnO2 NTs (Pt-PS_SnO2 NTs) show exceptionally high acetone gas response, superior selectivity against other interfering gases, and very low limit of detection (10 ppb) to simulated diabetic acetone molecules. More importantly, sensor arrays assembled with developed porous SnO2 NTs enable the direct distinction between the simulated diabetic breath and normal breath from healthy people. We have analyzed spectroscopic observations of Titan performed in January 1997 by the Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) on the Infrared Space Observatory in the wavelength range from 5.3 to 7.0 μm (1422–1890 cm −1 ). This spectral interval is of particular interest because it contains various molecular transitions, particularly the ν 2 band of CH 4 and the ν 8 band of C 2 H 6 , as well as a spectral feature characteristic of the laboratory analogs of Titan’s haze—or tholins—which have been studied for decades. In addition, this region is expected to show the transition between the thermal emission and reflected sunlight regimes of Titan’s atmospheric radiation around 6 μm. All these features are indeed observed in the SWS spectrum, for the first time in the case of the ν 2 band of CH 4 at 6.5 μm. We present a radiative transfer model of these observations from which we derive the extinction cross section of the haze particles at 140 ± 20 km altitude. This result complements similar determinations recently obtained at shorter and longer wavelengths from Cassini VIMS and CIRS measurements, although large uncertainties still remain at 1700–1800 cm −1 , as well as a gap at 1800–2000 cm −1 . A comparison between the available extinction cross section determinations for the Titan haze and those derived for laboratory-synthesized tholins, from the near- to the far-infrared, shows some similarities but also striking discrepancies, thus reinforcing the idea that there is not a unique tholin analogue to the Titan haze material. In this work, catalytic Rh 2 O 3 -functionalized WO 3 nanofibers (NFs) were synthesized via an electrospinning route and used as a highly selective acetone-sensing layer for potential diagnosis of diabetes. Catalytic rhodium nanoparticles (Rh NPs) with average diameters of 5.0 ± 0.52 nm, which were synthesized by the polyol process, were dispersed in water with W precursor and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) for electrospinning. As-spun Rh NP-loaded W precursor/PVP composite NFs were calcined at 600 °C for 1 h in air atmosphere to achieve Rh 2 O 3 -decorated WO 3 NFs. Microstructure evolution and chemical composition of Rh 2 O 3 -decorated WO 3 NFs as a function of Rh-loading amounts, i.e., 0.01 wt%, 0.05 wt%, 0.10 wt%, and 0.15 wt%, were examined using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The mean size (30 nm) of the WO 3 crystallites in Rh 2 O 3 -decorated WO 3 NFs was much smaller than that (60 nm) of the WO 3 crystallites in pristine WO 3 NFs. The Rh 2 O 3 -decorated WO 3 NFs showed outstanding acetone (CH 3 COCH 3 ) sensing response ( R air / R gas = 41.2 to 5 ppm), which was 4.6 times higher than the response ( R air / R gas = 9.0 to 5 ppm) of pristine WO 3 NFs at highly humid atmosphere (95% RH). In addition, superior acetone cross-sensitivity of the Rh 2 O 3 -decorated WO 3 NFs was observed in other interfering gases such as pentane ( n -C 5 H 12 ), ammonia (NH 3 ), toluene (C 6 H 5 CH 3 ), carbon monoxide (CO), and ethanol (C 2 H 5 OH) at 5 ppm. Liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) technology enables the safe, easy, and cost-effective storage and transportation of large quantities of hydrogen using inexpensive and mass-produced compounds. The LOHC materials play a crucial role in hydrogen storage capacity, reaction kinetics, reaction temperature, and reversibility. However, the development and optimization of LOHC materials is limited due to using of mass-produced materials for bulk hydrogen logistics. Herein, we propose a molecular engineering approach to overcome the limitations of commercial dibenzyltoluene (DBT)-based LOHC systems, considered one of the most promising LOHC materials based on the heat transfer oil, Marlotherm SH (MSH), owing to its superior physical properties (wide liquid range, and non-flammable properties), low price, and low toxicity. We devised a new chemical structure, benzyl-methylbenzyl-benzene (BMB), with highly improved dehydrogenation/hydrogenation performance achieved by rearranging the methyl group of DBT to overcome the limitations of slow reaction kinetics in terms of its chemical structure. The BMB exhibits a 150 % faster hydrogenation than MSH at 150 °C, and it releases 170 % more hydrogen compared to DBT at 270 °C. In addition, we analyzed the dehydrogenation/hydrogenation pathways according to the structures of DBT and BMB. Furthermore, we found that BMB (27 %) is inevitably generated in the MSH synthesis process alongside DBT (73 %). Based on this, we propose a streamlined and sustainable engineered method for improved MSH material manufacturing with a high BMB ratio (∼70 %). Objectives: This study aimed to compare susceptibility map-weighted imaging (SMwI) using various MRI machines (three vendors) with N-3-fluoropropyl-2-β-carbomethoxy-3-β-(4-iodophe nyl)nortropane (18F-FP-CIT) PET in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative parkinsonism in a multi-centre setting. Methods: We prospectively recruited 257 subjects, including 157 patients with neurodegenerative parkinsonism, 54 patients with non-neurodegenerative parkinsonism, and 46 healthy subjects from 10 hospitals between November 2019 and October 2020. All participants underwent both SMwI and 18F-FP-CIT PET. SMwI was interpreted by two independent reviewers for the presence or absence of abnormalities in nigrosome 1, and discrepancies were resolved by consensus. 18F-FP-CIT PET was used as the reference standard. Inter-observer agreement was tested using Cohen's kappa coefficient. McNemar's test was used to test the agreement between the interpretations of SMwI and 18F-FP-CIT PET per participant and substantia nigra (SN). Results: The inter-observer agreement was 0.924 and 0.942 per SN and participant, respectively. The diagnostic sensitivity of SMwI was 97.9% and 99.4% per SN and participant, respectively; its specificity was 95.9% and 95.2%, respectively, and its accuracy was 97.1% and 97.7%, respectively. There was no significant difference between the results of SMwI and 18F-FP-CIT PET (p > 0.05, for both SN and participant). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the high diagnostic performance of SMwI was maintained in a multi-centre setting with various MRI scanners, suggesting the generalisability of SMwI for determining nigrostriatal degeneration in patients with parkinsonism. Background: Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) often presents as cognitive impairment, but the mechanism of cognitive decline is unclear. Recent studies showed that number of microbleeds were associated with cognitive decline.Objective: We aimed to investigate how microbleeds contribute to cognitive impairment in association with white matter tract abnormalities or cortical thickness in CAA.Methods: This retrospective comparative study involved patients with probable CAA according to the Boston criteria (Aβ+ CAA) and patients with Alzheimer's disease (Aβ+ AD), all of whom showed severe amyloid deposition on amyloid PET. Using mediation analysis, we investigated how FA or cortical thickness mediates the correlation between the number of lobar microbleeds and cognition.Results: We analyzed 30 patients with Aβ+ CAA (age 72.2±7.6, female 53.3%) and 30 patients with Aβ+ AD (age 71.5±7.6, female 53.3%). The two groups showed similar degrees of cortical amyloid deposition in AD-related regions. The Aβ+ CAA group had significantly lower FA values in the clusters of the posterior area than did the Aβ+ AD group(family-wise error-corrected p < 0.05). The correlation between the number of lobar microbleeds and visuospatial function was indirectly mediated by white matter tract abnormality of right posterior thalamic radiation (PTR) and tapetum, while lobar microbleeds and language function was indirectly mediated by the abnormality of left PTR and sagittal stratum. Cortical thickness did not mediate the association between lobar microbleeds and cognition.Conclusion: This result supports the hypothesis that microbleeds burden leads to white matter tract damage and subsequent cognitive decline in CAA. Objectives: To evaluate clinico-radiologic markers that predict poor overall survival (OS) in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) and to develop a prognostic model. Materials and methods: Patients with newly diagnosed sCJD were included who underwent diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) from February 2000 to July 2020. The impact of 9 clinico-radiologic features on OS was analyzed using univariable and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression model. The DWI prognostic score model was generated. The weighted kappa was calculated for interobserver agreement. Results: Sixty patients (mean age ± SD, 61.0 ± 9.7 years, 32 women) were included. Univariable analysis showed positive associations between poor OS and patient age (p = 0.003), extent of involved cortical lobes (p = 0.11), involvement of caudate nucleus (p = 0.07), and putamen (p = 0.04). Multivariable analysis demonstrated two independent prognostic factors: age ≥ 60 (HR 2.65, 95% CI, 1.41–4.98), and diffusion restriction in caudate nucleus and putamen (HR 2.24, 95% CI, 1.15–4.37). Based on these features, the DWI prognostic score model was generated: low-risk (0–1 point), intermediate-risk (2–3 points), and high-risk (4–5 points) groups. Median OS in high-risk group was 1.7 months, which was significantly shorter than those in the intermediate-risk (14.2 months) and low-risk (26.5 months) groups (p < 0.001). Interobserver agreements were excellent (κ = 0.91–0.92). Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that age and diffusion restriction in caudate nucleus and putamen were the independent prognostic factors of poor overall survival in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Our DWI prognostic score model may be useful in clinical settings for disease stratification. Single-crystal nanocrystals of catalytic metals and oxides are essential for understanding chemical interactions on well-defined catalyst surfaces. However, a comprehensive understanding of the crystallographic origins for such enhancement has been lacking. This work provides formal evidence of the structure–property relationship through a model study on single-crystal TiO 2. Our approach involves transient pulse heating to manipulate porosity and phase in epitaxially-grown TiO 2 nanosheets along the (0 0 1) plane. Furthermore, we could introduce high-entropy alloy nanoparticles into the system, which exhibited excellent catalytic activity toward CO oxidation, achieving T 90 at 143 °C. This improved performance is attributed to the interplay between the catalytic nanoparticles and the multiphase support, facilitating CO and O 2 adsorption. Our study contributes to a fundamental understanding of structure–property relationships in heterogeneous catalyst systems. Objectives: To investigate the diagnostic performance of T2*-weighted gradient echo (GRE) imaging, susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), or quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) in differentiating multiple system atrophy–parkinsonian type (MSA-P) from Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: A systematic literature search through the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed, starting on September 8, 2020, to identify studies evaluating the diagnostic performance of putaminal hypointensity on T2* GRE or SWI and phase shift on QSM in differentiating MSA-P from PD. The pooled sensitivity and specificity were obtained using hierarchical logistic regression modeling and hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic (HSROC) modeling. The pooled diagnostic yields of T2* GRE, SWI, or QSM among MSA-P patients were calculated using the DerSimonian–Laird random-effects model. Results: Twelve original articles with 985 patients were finally included. SWI was performed in seven studies, T2* GRE was performed in three studies, and QSM was performed in two studies. The pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.65 (95% CI 0.51–0.78) and 0.90 (95% CI 0.83–0.95), respectively. The area under the HSROC curve was 0.87 (95% CI 0.84–0.90). The Higgins I2 statistic calculations revealed considerable heterogeneity in terms of both sensitivity (I2 = 72.12%) and specificity (I2 = 70.38%). The coupled forest plot revealed the threshold effect. For the nine studies in which area under the curve (AUC) was obtainable, the AUC ranged from 0.68 to 0.947, with a median of 0.819. The pooled diagnostic yield of T2* GRE, SWI, or QSM was 66% (95% CI 51–78%). Conclusions: Putaminal hypointensity on T2* GRE or SWI and phase shift on QSM might be a promising diagnostic tool in differentiating MSA-P from PD. Further large multicenter prospective study is warranted.
