5. Stable 1T‐MoS2 by Facile Phase Transition Synthesis for Efficient Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Reaction.

Abstract

The 1T phase of MoS2 exhibits much higher electrocatalytic activity and better stability than the 2H phase. However, the harsh conditions of 1T phase synthesis remain a significant challenge for various extensions and applications of MoS2. In this work, a simple hydrothermal‐based synthesis method for the phase transition of MoS2 is being developed. For this, the NH2‐MIL‐125(Ti) (Ti MOF) is successfully utilized to induce the phase transition of MoS2 from 2H to 1T, achieving a high conversion ratio of ≈78.3%. The optimum phase‐induced MoS2/Ti MOF heterostructure demonstrates enhanced oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance, showing an overpotential of 290 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations are demonstrating the benefits of this phase transition, determining the electronic properties and OER performance of MoS2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Biomaterials derived via programmable supramolecular protein assembly provide a viable means of constructing precisely defined structures. Here, we present programmed superstructures of AuPt nanoparticles (NPs) on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) that exhibit distinct electrocatalytic activities with respect to the nanoparticle positions via rationally modulated peptide-mediated assembly. De novo designed peptides assemble into six-helix bundles along the CNT axis to form a suprahelical structure. Surface cysteine residues of the peptides create AuPt-specific nucleation site, which allow for precise positioning of NPs onto helical geometries, as confirmed by 3-D reconstruction using electron tomography. The electrocatalytic model system, i.e., AuPt for oxygen reduction, yields electrochemical response signals that reflect the controlled arrangement of NPs in the intended assemblies. Our design approach can be expanded to versatile fields to build sophisticated functional assemblies.

10. Stress Analysis of Graphite Anode under Various Binder Conditions in a Multiparticle Model through Multiscale Simulation and Experimental Verification.

Abstract

Quantifying and analyzing the stress of the battery system at different levels are important for ensuring battery stability and performance. Herein, a three‐dimensional multiparticle model to evaluate the stress generated within the active material particles of battery due to the particle–particle and particle–binder interactions is developed. Variations in binder conditions, such as binder distribution, thickness, and radius, as well as Young's modulus, are introduced to investigate their effects on the mechanical stress of graphite particles in the battery. Herein, it is demonstrated that larger binder distributions, lower thicknesses, and smaller Young's moduli and radii reduce the maximum particle stress of graphite. Moreover, smaller binder distributions and Young's moduli along with larger thicknesses and radii reduce the maximum and average binder stress values. The interfaces between the particle–particle and particle–current collector are the typical maximum stress locations. The average stress data obtained are applied at the electrode level for comparison with the experimental stress value. The experimental and the model average stresses are comparable, indicating the credibility of our model. These findings have considerable implications for minimizing the mechanical stress and probability of electrode fracture in the battery electrode operation and fabrication processes. 39. Generation of ROI enhanced depth maps using stereoscopic cameras and a depth camera

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new scheme to generate region-of-interest (ROI) enhanced depth maps combining one low-resolution depth camera with high-resolution stereoscopic cameras. Basically, the hybrid camera system produces four synchronized images at each frame: left and right images from the stereoscopic cameras, a color image and its associated depth map from the depth camera. In the hybrid camera system, after estimating initial depth information for the left image using a stereo matching algorithm, we project depths obtained from the depth camera onto ROI of the left image using three-dimensional (3-D) image warping. Then, the warped depths are linearly interpolated to fill depth holes occurred in ROI. Finally, we merge the ROI depths with background ones extracted from the initial depth information to generate the ROI enhanced depth map. Experimental results show that the proposed depth acquisition system provides more accurate depth information for ROI than previous stereo matching algorithms. Besides, the proposed scheme minimizes inherent problems of the current depth camera, such as limitation of its measuring distance and production of low-resolution depth maps. Abstract

We present a systematic approach to the design of an observer for rotor position and velocity of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors without rotational transducers, in which the effects of both motor and filter dynamics are taken into full account. The proposed observer can be incorporated directly into the well-known high-frequency voltage injection methods.
