The electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to formic acid has gained significant attention as a potential environmentally friendly approach to reducing CO2 emissions and producing carbon-neutral liquid fuels. However, several challenges must be addressed to achieve the production of high-purity and high-concentration formic acid through CO2RR. One major challenge is the formation of a formate mixture instead of pure formic acid in conventional reactors. This requires costly downstream purification and concentration processes to obtain pure formic acid. To overcome this problem, a three-compartment reactor design has been proposed where a solid-state electrolyte (SSE) is inserted between the anode and cathode compartments to recover pure formic acid directly. This reactor design involves the use of an anion exchange membrane (AEM) and a cation exchange membrane (CEM) to separate the anode and cathode compartments, and a center compartment filled with high-conductivity SSE to minimize ohmic resistance. Several studies have implemented this reactor design for continuous CO2RR and have reported remarkable improvements in the concentration and purity of the formic acid product. In this review, we summarize the recent progress of the SSE reactor design for CO2RR to produce pure formic acid (HCOOH) and propose further research to scale up this technology for industrial-scale applications in the future. Accurate predictions of extreme water temperatures are criticalto understanding the variability of the marine environment and reducing marine disasters maximized by global warming. In this study, we propose a two-pathway framework with separated spatial and temporal encoders for accurate prediction of water temperature, especially extremely high water temperature, through effective spatiotemporal representation learning. The spatial and temporal encoder networks based on the Transformer's self-attention mechanism performs the task of predicting the water temperature time series at the 16 coastal locations around the Korean Peninsula for the seven consecutive days ahead at daily intervals with various combinations of patch embedding methods, positional embedding for spatial features. Comparative experiments with conventional deep convolutional and recurrent networks are also conducted for comparison. By comparing and assessing these results, the proposed two-pathway framework can improve the predictability of extremely high coastal water temperature by better capturing spatiotemporal interrelationships and long-range dependencies from open ocean and regional sea, and further determines the optimal architectural details of self-attention-based spatial and temporal encoders. This study aims to compare directed transfer function (DTF), which is an effective connectivity analysis, derived from scalp EEGs between responder and nonresponder groups implanted with vagus-nerve stimulation (VNS). Twelve patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (six responders and six nonresponders) and ten controls were recruited. A good response to VNS was defined as a reduction of ≥50% in seizure frequency compared with the presurgical baseline. DTF was calculated in five frequency bands (delta, theta, alpha, beta, and broadband) and seven grouped electrode regions (left and right frontal, temporal, parieto-occipital, and midline) in three different states (presurgical, stimulation-on, and stimulation-off states). Responders showed presurgical nodal strength close to the control group in both inflow and outflow, whereas nonresponders exhibited increased inward and outward connectivity measures. Nonresponders also had increased inward and outward connectivity measures in the various brain regions and various frequency bands assessed compared with the control group when the stimulation was on or off. Our study demonstrated that the presurgical DTF profiles of responders were different from those of nonresponders. Moreover, a presurgical normal DTF profile may predict good responsiveness to VNS. The accurate distribution of the replicated genome during cell division is essential for cell survival and healthy organismal development. Errors in this process have catastrophic consequences, such as birth defects and aneuploidy, a hallmark of cancer cells. PLK1 is one of the master kinases in mitosis and has multiple functions, including mitotic entry, chromosome segregation, spindle assembly checkpoint, and cytokinesis. To dissect the role of PLK1 in mitosis, it is important to understand how PLK1 localizes in the specific region in cells. PLK1 localizes at the kinetochore and is essential in spindle assembly checkpoint and chromosome segregation. However, how PLK1 localizes at the kinetochore remains elusive. Here, we review the recent literature on the kinetochore recruitment mechanisms of PLK1 and its roles in spindle assembly checkpoint and attachment between kinetochores and spindle microtubules. Accurate water surface elevation estimation is essential for understanding nearshore processes, but it is still challenging due to limitations in measuring water level using in-situ acoustic sensors. This paper presents a vision-based water surface elevation estimation approach using multi-view datasets. Specifically, we propose a visual domain adaptation method to build a water level estimator in spite of a situation in which ocean wave height cannot be measured directly. We also implemented a semi-supervised approach to extract wave height information from long-term sequences of wave height observations with minimal supervision. We performed wave flume experiments in a hydraulic laboratory with two cameras with side and top viewpoints to validate the effectiveness of our approach. The performance of the proposed models were evaluated by comparing the estimated time series of water elevation with the ground-truth wave gauge data at three locations along the wave flume. The estimated time series were in good agreement within the averaged correlation coefficient of 0.98 and 0.90 on the measurement and 0.95 and 0.85 on the estimation for regular and irregular waves, respectively. Commercialization of energy conversion technologies, such as water electrolysis or fuel cells, has become a common prioritized goal in academia and industry due to the accelerated environmental crisis caused by the rapid increase in demand for fossil fuel‐based energy resources. However, these state‐of‐the‐art technologies require the use of expensive noble metal‐based electrocatalysts, which significantly undermine the feasibility of their commercial success. The introduction of less expensive elements into the noble metal‐based electrocatalysts, namely, doping, has become common in nanocatalysis research because of the lower catalyst preparation costs. Interestingly, recent studies have revealed additional roles of dopants in noble metal catalysts; doping can enhance the catalytic activity and selectivity by modulating the band structure, optimizing the surface energy of the catalysts, controlling the binding strength of adsorbates, and thus affecting the reaction kinetics. Dopants can also intervene in the nanocrystal growth mechanism, leading to shape‐ and phase‐controlled nanocrystals. This review discusses the great versatility of dopants in nanoparticle‐based catalysis in all aspects, from nanocrystal growth to nanocatalyst performance. Accurate chromosome segregation is required for cell survival and organismal development. During mitosis, the spindle assembly checkpoint acts as a safeguard to maintain the high fidelity of mitotic chromosome segregation by monitoring the attachment of kinetochores to the mitotic spindle. Bub1 is a conserved kinase critical for the spindle assembly checkpoint. Bub1 also facilitates chromosome alignment and contributes to the regulation of mitotic duration. Here, focusing on the spindle assembly checkpoint and on chromosome alignment, we summarize the primary literature on Bub1, discussing its structure and functional domains, as well its regulation and roles in mitosis. In addition, we discuss recent evidence for roles of Bub1 beyond mitosis regulation in TGFβ signaling and telomere replication. Finally, we discuss the involvement of Bub1 in human diseases, especially in cancer, and the potential of using Bub1 as a drug target for therapeutic applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a spatiotemporal graph neural network capable of effective representation learning of the spatiotemporal interrelationships and interdependencies of in-situ observation data from multiple locations for multivariate multi-step ahead time-series forecasting. The propose model is largely composed of graph learning, spatial encoder, and temporal decoder, and ablation studies on variants of the three modules and comparative experiments with state-of-the-art deep neural networks for sequence modeling were also performed extensively. The proposed model showed improved predictability than conventional numerical model-based approaches or state-of-the-art models by applying consecutive multi-step ahead time-series prediction of sea surface temperature at multiple locations along the coast. For more rigorous performance evaluation, not only the overall performance of the test data, but also the performance of extreme cases included in the test data based on historical records were separately assessed. The prediction rationales were also presented through quantified relative contributions between neighbor locations using the trained adjacency matrix obtained through graph learning. The results showed that it is well consistent with the ocean physics and geographical domain knowledge, demonstrating the feasibility and reliability of the proposed method. Therefore, the proposed method shows sufficient potential to be used as a scientific tool for decision-making in extreme events such as marine heat waves or for operational ocean forecasting. During cell division, kinetochores couple chromosomes to spindle microtubules. To protect against chromosome gain or loss, kinetochores lacking microtubule attachment locally catalyze association of the checkpoint proteins Cdc20 and Mad2, which is the key event in the formation of a diffusible checkpoint complex that prevents mitotic exit. We elucidated the mechanism of kinetochore-catalyzed Mad2-Cdc20 assembly with a probe that specifically monitors this assembly reaction at kinetochores in living cells. We found that catalysis occurs through a tripartite mechanism that includes localized delivery of Mad2 and Cdc20 substrates and two phosphorylation-dependent interactions that geometrically constrain their positions and prime Cdc20 for interaction with Mad2. Abstract By utilizing a novel design of an electronic device with microfabricated through-etched slits for transmission electron microscopy (TEM), single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) suspended over two metal electrodes were successfully characterized. A semiconducting-semiconducting intramolecular junction (IMJ) was found from a change in chirality along the tube. Interestingly non-linear current-voltage characteristic was found despite almost negligible difference in the band-gap energy (13 meV). The non-linear electrical transport property can be caused by asymmetric defect states positioned in the band-gap of two semiconducting tubes, which make one as donor (similar to a p-type semiconductor) and the other as acceptor (similar to n-type semiconductor). • A novel advertising method suitable for mobile display is proposed. • Our method allows on-display advertising without stopping the video. • We demonstrate our model through laboratory experiments. • We found the suggested approach is less distractive but still effective. Advertising is significant in video streaming services on mobile devices, as well as in other e-business services. Advertisement providers pay part or the entire service cost; hence, users enjoy services at a low price or free of charge. However, users perceive advertisements as clutter and avoid them. To reduce advertising avoidance and enhance advertising efficiency, various methods, such as raising advertising relevance, seeking advertisement permission, or changing advertisement position, are suggested. This study introduces L-Shape advertising, a new strategy suitable for mobile video streaming services, as it is less distractive and effective. We demonstrate the superiority of L-Shape advertising compared to popular advertising formats such as skippable and non-skippable advertisements. The study empirically tests how the proposed strategy performs and examines users' cognitive processes applying eye-tracking technology. The popularly used global, meta‐GGA, and range‐separated hybrid DFT functionals are examined to compare the predictive qualities of singlet excited state (S1) properties in HLCT materials. Among these hybrid DFT functionals, it is clarified that both M06 and LC‐ω*HPBE functionals show quantitatively and qualitatively excellent predictions of absorption energies, compared to experiments. However, a discrepant behavior in predicting the emission energy is found that LC‐ω*HPBE functional obviously predicts more accurate emission energy than M06 functional. Also, the calculated τs values by means of M06 and LC‐ω∗HPBE functionals show that LC‐ω∗HPBE functional gives quantitatively and qualitatively superior prediction. Research has found workplace ostracism to negatively impact workplace attitudes and behaviours such as job satisfaction, organisational citizenship behaviour, and job performance. However, research investigating beyond the direct effects of workplace ostracism and findings about boundary conditions for mitigating the negative effects of workplace ostracism are limited in organisational studies. In this regard, this study explored the mediating effects of job satisfaction on the relationship between workplace ostracism and innovative behaviour and the moderating effects of social networking services for work-related purposes for the relationship between workplace ostracism and job satisfaction. The two-wave study consisted of 237 full-time employees in large organisations in South Korea. The hierarchical regression analyses resulted in job satisfaction to mediate the relationship between workplace ostracism and innovative behaviour and social network service to significantly moderate the relationship between workplace ostracism and job satisfaction. Moreover, mediated moderation was found for the study model, which further suggests that using social network services for work-related purposes had indirect effects on innovative behaviour. Electron leakage is one of the most critical factors for the degradation of blue fluorescent organic light‐emitting diodes (FOLEDs), as it occurs when electrons injected from the cathode flow to an electron‐blocking layer (EBL) without being entirely consumed within an emissive layer (EML). To address this issue, this study introduces the concept of an electron leakage‐pathway (ELP). Anthracene core materials, used as hosts for blue FOLEDs were doped in the EBL to prevent its direct damage to the EBL molecules by constructing the ELP. This study shows that using an anthracene core with high bond dissociation energy (BDE) in the anionic state as the ELP is the most effective way to increase the lifetime of the FOLED, demonstrating over 400 h. of LT90 (the time taken for the luminance to decrease to 90% of its initial value), which corresponds to an increase of 33% compared to the lifetime without the ELP. Remarkably, under a commonly used brightness level of 500 cd m−2 in smartphones, an LT50 of over 10 000 h was obtained. Ultimately, this study outlines a strategy for increasing the lifetime of blue FOLEDs through simple modifications to the device structure, without requiring the development of EBL materials or complex device engineering. Degradation of Ir based blue phosphorescent emitters was analyzed from the viewpoint of triplet-polaron annihilation (TPA) of the emitters. Two different classes of Ir emitters, F substituted phenylpyridine type Ir emitter and F substituted phenylimidazole type Ir emitter, were compared as the blue emitters. Aging test of singlet carrier devices of the Ir emitters under polaron, exciton, and exciton-polaron revealed that the phenylimidazole type Ir emitter was relatively more resistant to the TPA degradation than the phenylpyridine type Ir emitter and extended the lifetime of blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes. In addition, the lifetime and degradation of the short-living blue phosphorescent devices were improved by the host material suppressing the TPA under negative polaron using an electron scattering emitting layer structure. With increasing demand for means of controlling surface adhesion in various applications, including the semiconductor industry, optics, micro/nanoelectromechanical systems, and the medical industry, nano-engineered surfaces have attracted much attention. This study suggests a design methodology for nanostructures using the Derjaguin approximation in conjunction with finite element analysis for the control of adhesion forces. The suggested design methodology was applied for designing a nano-engineered surface with low-adhesion properties. To verify this, rectangular and sinusoidal nanostructures were fabricated and analyzed using force-distance curve measurements using atomic force microscopy and centrifugal detachment testing. For force-distance curve measurements, modified cantilevers with tips formed with atypical particles were used. Subsequently, centrifugal detachment tests were also conducted. The surface wettability of rectangular and sinusoidal nanostructures was measured and compared with the measured adhesion force and the number of particles remaining after centrifugal detachment tests. Few studies have directly compared the neural correlates of spatial attention (i.e., attention to a particular location) and nonspatial attention (i.e., attention to a feature in the visual scene) using well-controlled tasks. Here, we investigated the neural correlates of spatial and nonspatial attention in humans using intracranial electroencephalography. The topography and number of electrodes showing significant event-related desynchronization (ERD) or event-related synchronization (ERS) in different frequency bands were studied in 13 epileptic patients. Performance was not significantly different between the two conditions. In both conditions, ERD in the low-frequency bands and ERS in the high-frequency bands were present bilaterally in the parietal cortex (prominently on the right hemisphere) and frontal regions. In addition to these common changes, spatial attention involved right-lateralized activity that was maximal in the right superior parietal lobule (SPL), whereas nonspatial attention involved wider brain networks including the bilateral parietal, frontal, and temporal regions, but still had maximal activity in the right parietal lobe. Within the parietal lobe, spatial attention involved ERD or ERS in the right SPL, whereas nonspatial attention involved ERD or ERS in the right inferior parietal lobule. This study proposes a spatio-temporal geographical information-guided neural network to predict multi-step ahead space-time series of ocean waves. The network is designed to learn the ocean wave dynamics from external atmospheric forcing and internal wave processes. It also captures the nonlinear relationships in multiple input and at the spatial and temporal levels and shares their dependencies. The model learns these dependencies through a convoluted encoded latent feature, while a decoder predicts the space-time series of ocean waves from the latent representations. The model is trained on 35 years of a state-of-the-art global reanalysis dataset produced at 1-hour temporal and 25 km spatial resolutions around the Korean Peninsula. It is evaluated by predicting the same resolution's multi-step ahead space-time series of ocean waves for a 48-hour forecast lead time for the 5 years not used for training. We conducted an ablation experiment to determine the optimal model architecture, input variable, and training period. The prediction results are compared and analyzed with the in-situ ocean wave measurements at the 18 observation stations. We consider the prediction results according to the start time of prediction with the in-situ measurements and hindcast results to examine the performance on the high waves that caused wave-induced disaster. • STG-OceanWaveNet is developed to accurately predict waves by emulating wave dynamics. • The RMSE of 48-hours ahead SWH and MWP is 0.4 m and 0.5 sec. for the 5 years. • Compared with in-situ measurements, the RMSE for SWH and MWP are 0.35 m and 0.55 sec. • The deep learning approach is feasible to predict ocean waves with reliable accuracy. Durable drag-reduction surfaces have recently received much attention, due to energy-saving and power-consumption issues associated with harsh environment applications, such as those experienced by piping infrastructure, ships, aviation, underwater vehicles, and high-speed ground vehicles. In this study, a durable, metallic surface with highly ordered hierarchical structures was used to enhance drag-reduction properties, by combining two passive drag-reduction strategies: an air-layer effect induced by nanostructures and secondary vortex generation by micro-riblet structures. The nanostructures and micro-riblet structures were designed to increase slip length. The top–down fabrication method used to form the metallic hierarchical structures combined laser interference lithography, photolithography, thermal reflow, nanoimprinting, and pulse-reverse-current electrochemical deposition. The surfaces were formed from nickel, which has high hardness and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for use in harsh environments. The drag-reduction properties of various metal surfaces were investigated based on the surface structure: a bare surface, a nanostructured surface, a micro-riblet surface, and a hierarchically structured surface of nanostructures on micro-riblets. Recently, the development of durable hydrophobic surfaces has received much attention, with anti-icing applications in harsh environments such as aircrafts, wind turbines, power lines, and marine vessels. In this paper we describe a design methodology employing a lattice Boltzmann method to determine the optimal geometry of microstructures to achieve superhydrophobicity. We describe a top-down fabrication method to form superhydrophobic micro-hierarchical metal surface using photolithography, nanoimprinting, and continuous metal-to-metal replication using pulse-reverse-current electrochemical deposition. The surfaces were formed of nickel, which has a large hardness and is resistant to corrosion, making it suitable for use in harsh external conditions. We compared the measured wettability of fabricated micro-hierarchical metal surface with that from numerical simulations. The contact angle and contact angle hysteresis of four metal surfaces were measured (i.e., a bare surface, a random nanostructured surface, an engineered nanostructured surface, and an engineered hierarchical structured surface), and the anti-icing properties of these four metal surfaces were investigated. Abstract: The interaction of capping protein (CP) with actin filaments is an essential element of actin assembly and actin-based motility in nearly all eukaryotes. The dendritic nucleation model for Arp2/3-based lamellipodial assembly features capping of barbed ends by CP, and the formation of filopodia is proposed to involve inhibition of capping by formins and other proteins. To understand the molecular basis for how CP binds the barbed end of the actin filament, we have used a combination of computational and experimental approaches, primarily involving molecular docking and site-directed mutagenesis. We arrive at a model that supports all of our biochemical data and agrees very well with a cryo-electron microscopy structure of the capped filament. CP interacts with both actin protomers at the barbed end of the filament, and the amphipathic helix at the C-terminus of the β-subunit binds to the hydrophobic cleft on actin, in a manner similar to that of WH2 domains. Capping protein (CP) regulates actin dynamics by binding the barbed ends of actin filaments. Removal of CP may be one means to harness actin polymerization for processes such as cell movement and endocytosis. Here we structurally and biochemically investigated a CP interaction (CPI) motif present in the otherwise unrelated proteins CARMIL and CD2AP. The CPI motif wraps around the stalk of the mushroom-shaped CP at a site distant from the actin-binding interface, which lies on the top of the mushroom cap. We propose that the CPI motif may act as an allosteric modulator, restricting CP to a low-affinity, filament-binding conformation. Structure-based sequence alignments extend the CPI motif–containing family to include CIN85, CKIP-1, CapZIP and a relatively uncharacterized protein, WASHCAP (FAM21). For the BPS D-vortices, we show through exact calculations that the classical motion of randomly-distributed n D-vortices is governed by a relativistic Lagrangian of free massive point-particles. When the head-on collision of two identical BPS D-vortices of zero radius is considered, it predicts either 90° scattering or 0° scattering equivalent to 180° scattering. Since the former leads to a reconnection of two identical D-strings and the latter does to a case of their passing through each other, two possibilities are consistent with the prediction of string theory. It is also shown that the force between two non-BPS vortices is repulsive. Although the obtained moduli space dynamics of multi-BPS-D-vortices is exact in classical regime, the quantum effect of an F-string pair production should be included in determining the probabilities of the reconnection and the passing through for fast-moving cosmic superstrings. Abstract: We present the design and operation of a transmission electron microscopy (TEM)-compatible carbon nanotube (CNT) field-effect transistor (FET). The device is configured with microfabricated slits, which allows direct observation of CNTs in a FET using TEM and measurement of electrical transport while inside the TEM. As demonstrations of the device architecture, two examples are presented. The first example is an in situ electrical transport measurement of a bundle of carbon nanotubes. The second example is a study of electron beam radiation effect on CNT bundles using a 200keV electron beam. In situ electrical transport measurement during the beam irradiation shows a signature of wall- or tube-breakdown. Stepwise current drops were observed when a high intensity electron beam was used to cut individual CNT bundles in a device with multiple bundles. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

We report fluorenyl amine-based electron blocking layers (EBLs) N,9,9-triphenyl-N-(4′-(triphenylsilyl)-[1,1′-biphenyl]−4-yl)−9 H-fluoren-2-amine (P-pSi-DPFA), N,9,9-triphenyl-N-(3-(triphenylsilyl)phenyl)−9 H-fluoren-2-amine (P-mSi-DPFA), and N-([1,1′-biphenyl]−4-yl)−9,9-diphenyl-N-(3-(triphenylsilyl)phenyl)−9 H-fluoren-2-amine (BP-mSi-DPFA) that prevent intermolecular interactions with emissive layer (EML). Triplet-triplet fusion (TTF)-based organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) use anthracene derivatives as hosts, and due to the electron-rich nature of anthracene core, the recombination zone is predominantly formed at the EBL/EML interface. Therefore, it is important to control the intermolecular interaction between EBL and EML while also having an EBL with suitable hole transport characteristics and an appropriate highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level. We developed TTF-based OLED achieving up to 1489 hours (LT 50 at 500 cd/m2) using P-pSi-DPFA as the EBL, securing hole transport characteristics through a fluorenyl amine core, and preventing unwanted intermolecular interactions with the EML by substituting triphenyl silane into the amine core. • Three newly synthesized EBL materials extended OLED device lifetime significantly. • Experimental and theoretical analyses support EBL materials' effectiveness. • P-pSi-DPFA device achieved an impressive 1489-hour lifetime at 500 cd/m². Efficient and durable electrocatalysts toward alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are of great significance for the widespread application of anion‐exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE). Numerous single‐phase catalysts, such as Ru2P, have been explored as efficient HER catalysts; however, many have failed to overcome the inherent sluggish kinetics of the two separate steps involved in the alkaline HER: water dissociation and hydrogen production. In this study, density functional theory calculations are conducted to identify promising combinations of Ir2P and Ru2P materials that promote fast cascade water dissociation and H2 production via kinetically favorable hydrogen spillover from the Ru2P surface to the adjacent Ir2P. An unprecedented construction of Ir2P cluster‐decorated Ru2P hollow nanotubes (c‐RP/IP HNTs), which feature a cooperative heterostructural synergy are developed. This configuration shows greater performance than commercial Pt/C, achieving an overpotential of 23.2 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and maintaining long‐term stability for 55 h in half‐cell tests. Furthermore, the practical AEMWE test, incorporating c‐RP/IP HNTs, demonstrated a remarkable single‐cell performance of 12.23 A cm−2 at 2.0 V and operated stably under 1.0 A cm−2 for over 250 h. A series of metal-quinolate (MQ 2) materials (M = Be2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and Sr2+) were theoretically investigated to understand their electronic and charge transport properties as an application of electron injection layer (EIL) and additive material to electron transporting layer (ETL). It was found that the Be2+, Mg2+, and Ca2+ are tetragonally coordinated to the quinolate ligands whereas the Sr2+ is planarly coordinated. The analyses of electronic properties indicated that the stable lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy level of these materials relative to LiQ is expected to improve the electron injection from cathode and enhance the electron transport in ETL. In perspective of electrochemical reactivity, the chemical hardness values of MQ 2 materials showed that hole and electron carriers can be easily facilitated in order of BeQ 2 < MgQ 2 < CaQ 2 < SrQ 2. In particular, the results of charge carrier transport properties clearly showed that k e of SrQ 2 is 64% higher than that of LiQ, which is an advantage for both EIL and ETL additive. Zinc oxide (ZnO) has attractive photocatalytic properties. However, the high recombination rate of the photo-excited charge carriers on this material often restricts application. Here, we report that hybridization of one dimensional (1D) carbon nanotubes (CNT) on two dimensional (2D) porous ZnO nanosheets (NS) can be a promising strategy to overcome some of the challenges of ZnO. Specifically, a pulsed laser ablation technique was utilized to hybridize 1D CNT with 2D porous ZnO NS in environmentally friendly as well as super-economic (short time, less than 10 min) conditions. Field-effect transistors with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) suspended across etched slits and fabricated by chemical vapor deposition have been characterized by electrical measurements and transmission electron microscopy. Two devices are examined here: One is semiconducting from two single-wall CNTs, and the other is semiconducting and metallic, with a large off current, that comes from multiple nanotubes. Abscisic acid (ABA) plays an important role in seed germination, stomatal closure, and seedling growth inhibition in plants. Among downstream genes whose expression levels are regulated by AFA1 (Arabidopsis F-box Protein Hypersensitive to ABA 1), one gene, AtHAD1 upregulated by ABA was selected from Arabidopsis. AtHAD1 was induced by drought and salt stresses as well as by ABA and was found in dry seeds. Its loss-of-function mutants exhibited increased ABA-sensitivity in germination, seedling growth, and stomatal closure. In addition, the mutants displayed a lower water loss rate and higher survival rate under drought stress than the wild-type plants, indicating that a loss of AtHAD1 leads to enhanced drought tolerance. These results show that AtHAD1 has an inhibitory role in the ABA response and ABA-mediated drought tolerance. The expression levels of several ABA-responsive genes in athad1 were higher than those in the wild-type under the ABA treatment, suggesting that AtHAD1, as a negative regulator in the ABA response, could be associated with the downregulation of the ABA-responsive genes. The phosphatase assay showed that AtHAD1 exhibits phosphatase activity. Monitoring of the subcellular localization of GFP-fused AtHAD1 proteins indicated that AtHAD1 exists in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Overall, this study shows that Arabidopsis HAD1 as an intracellular phosphatase negatively functions in the ABA-mediated cellular responses. Nanostructured ionic compounds have driven major technological advancements in displays, photovoltaics, and catalysis. Current research focuses on refining the chemical composition of such compounds. In this study, a strategy for creating stoichiometrically well‐defined nanoscale multiple‐cation systems, where the atomically precise structure maximizes the synergistic cooperation between cations at the atomic scale is reported. The unprecedented construction of Heusler‐type PtRuP2 double‐walled nanotubes through sequential anion/cation exchange reactions is demonstrated. The PtRuP2 catalyst exhibits record‐high catalytic performance and durability for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline electrolytes and anion‐exchange membrane water electrolyzers. The investigations highlight the crucial role of Pt/Ru dual centers, providing multiple active sites that accelerate the HER kinetics within a single phosphide material, in the sequential operation of H2O activation/dissociation at Ru and H2 production at adjacent Pt sites. Repetitive stimulation procedures are used in neuromodulation techniques to induce persistent excitatory or inhibitory brain activity. The directivity of modulation is empirically regulated by modifying the stimulation length, interval, and strength. However, bidirectional neuronal modulations using ultrasound stimulations are rarely reported. This study presents bidirectional control of epileptiform activities with repetitive transcranial‐focused ultrasound stimulations in a rat model of drug‐induced acute epilepsy. It is found that repeated transmission of elongated (40 s), ultra‐low pressure (0.25 MPa) ultrasound can fully suppress epileptic activities in electro‐encephalography and cerebral blood volume measurements, while the change in bursting intervals from 40 to 20 s worsens epileptic activities even with the same burst length. Furthermore, the suppression induced by 40 s long bursts is transformed to excitatory states by a subsequent transmission. Bidirectional modulation of epileptic seizures with repeated ultrasound stimulation is achieved by regulating the changes in glutamate and γ‐Aminobutyric acid levels, as confirmed by measurements of expressed c‐Fos and GAD65 and multitemporal analysis of neurotransmitters in the interstitial fluid obtained via microdialysis. A high triplet energy host is developed using a silane moiety, 9‐(4‐(triphenylsilyl)dibenzo[b,d]furan‐2‐yl)‐9H‐carbazole (SiDBFCz), is designed through extensive density functional theory (DFT) calculations to obtain appropriate hole and electron injection barriers. The chemical hardness and the charge transport characteristics are comprehensively investigated to realize a bipolar host with high triplet energy over 2.9 eV for deep blue phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diodes (PHOLEDs). The synthesized SiDBFCz clearly exhibits the bipolar characteristics especially with emitter molecules doped. An external quantum efficiency over 19 % without any microcavity optimization is achieved thanks to the good charge balance in the SiDBFCz PHOLED. The device lifetime of the SiDBFCz PHOLED is improved more than 1000 %, compared to the unipolar control devices at an initial luminance of 500 cd m−2. The dramatic enhancement of the operational stability of the deep blue PHOLED is also thoroughly investigated in terms of electrochemical stability of host molecules in charged or excited states. The results clearly indicate that the device lifetime is strongly correlated with the bond dissociation energy and the activation energy for the bond dissociation reaction in triplet excited state. Here we demonstrate high-throughput gigapixel confocal imaging using a massively parallel optical probe array with single directional infinite scanning. For implementation of the single directional infinite scan with high lateral resolution, a parallelogram array micro-objective lens module, composed of two wafer-level microlens arrays, is proposed to generate a massively parallel optical probe array for integration into the confocal imaging system, including an objective-side telecentric relay lens with a low-magnification. To test the feasibility of the proposed system with single directional infinite scanning, we designed and constructed a confocal imaging system using a parallelogram array of multi-optical probes with a massively parallel array size of 200 × 140. The constructed system provides a full width-half maximum lateral resolution of 1.55 μm, as measured by the knife-edge detection method, and a field-of-view width of 28.0 mm with a sampling interval of 1 μm/pixel. Growth temperature induced changes in Al/Fe thin film catalysts are examined for chemical vapor deposition of carbon nanotubes directly on metal substrates. The film thickness, growth temperature, and supporting substrate affect the size and the density of Fe catalyst nanoparticles which in turn control the diameter, length, and single versus multiwalled nature of carbon nanotubes. Growths on two metal substrates, Au and Mo, using sputter deposited Al/Fe thin films are compared by transmission and scanning electron microscopy, and Raman analyses. Striking differences in the growth modes are observed with Au substrate enhancing multiwalled nanotube growth with metal catalyst particles at the tip away from the substrate and Mo substrate promoting single-walled nanotube growth with the catalyst nanoparticles remaining on the substrate. Oxidative treatment of Mo underlayer (i.e., relatively thick layer Mo sputtered on Au prior to Al/Fe catalyst deposition) can also induce nanotube growth with catalyst particles at the tips but with single-walled structure. Metal–halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have emerged as suitable light‐emitting materials for light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) and other practical applications. However, LEDs with perovskite NCs undergo environment‐induced and ion‐migration‐induced structural degradation during operation; therefore, novel NC design concepts, such as hermetic sealing of the perovskite NCs, are required. Thus far, viable synthetic conditions to form a robust and hermetic semiconducting shell on perovskite NCs have been rarely reported for LED applications because of the difficulties in the delicate engineering of encapsulation techniques. Herein, a highly bright and durable deep‐blue perovskite LED (PeLED) formed by hermetically sealing perovskite NCs with epitaxial ZnS shells is reported. This shell protects the perovskite NCs from the environment, facilitates charge injection/transport, and effectively suppresses interparticle ion migration during the LED operation, resulting in exceptional brightness (2916 cd m−2) at 451 nm and a high external quantum efficiency of 1.32%. Furthermore, even in the unencapsulated state, the LED shows a long operational lifetime (T50) of 1192 s (≈20 min) in the air. These results demonstrate that the epitaxial and hermetic encapsulation of perovskite NCs is a powerful strategy for fabricating high‐performance deep‐blue‐emitting PeLEDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multimaterial emission layer (EML) with host and dopant is known for its advantages in efficiency and lifetime for organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, as the compositions and the mixing ratio in the EML diversify, complex device physics and photophysics and complicated fabrication processes become challenging issues. Herein, a new concept to integrate exciton donor (host) and acceptor (dopant) into a single emitting molecule is suggested. 9‐(8,9,10,11‐Tetradeuterospiro[benzo[de]anthracene‐7,9′‐fluoren]‐2'‐yl)‐9H‐carbazole (SBAF‐Cz) and 8,9,10,11‐tetradeutero‐N‐(9,9‐dimethyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐N‐phenylspiro[benzo[de]anthracene‐7,9′‐fluoren]‐3‐amine (FPA‐SBAF) are used as host and dopant, respectively. By integrating two units, 8,9,10,11‐tetradeutero‐2′‐(9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl)‐N‐(9,9‐dimethyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐N‐phenylspiro[benzo[de]anthracene‐7,9′‐fluoren]‐3‐amine (FPA‐SBAF‐Cz) is synthesized, and photophysical and electrical properties are characterized. Density functional theory and experimental results consistently reveal that SBAF‐Cz and FPA‐SBAF are photophysically and electrically independent. The electrical properties of FPA‐SBAF‐Cz behave independently, while the photophysical properties are the sum of those of SBAF‐Cz and FPA‐SBAF, which is attributed to the zero radius of intramolecular energy transfer (ZRIET) between donor and acceptor in FPA‐SBAF‐Cz. The single‐component blue OLED with FPA‐SBAF‐Cz exhibits a maximum external quantum efficiency of 4.18%, which is higher than those of OLEDs with SBAF‐CZ:FPA‐SBAF multicomponent EMLs. Surprisingly, the device lifetime to 50% decrease from initial luminance is 114 h in FPA‐SBAF‐Cz OLED, which is 2.2 times longer than that of SBAF‐Cz:FPA‐SBAF OLEDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of M-quinolate complexes were theoretically investigated to understand the effect of metal ions on electronic and charge transport properties by employing density functional theory simulation. It was found that both electronic and carrier transport properties in M-quinolate materials significantly depend on singly oxidized metal ions. In particular, Csq apparently showed an excellent advantage over other M-quinolate materials (M = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Cu, Ag, and Au) in terms of electron mobility and injection. In addition, the dimerization and vertical detachment energies of all M-quinolate materials were compared to understand self-aggregation effect on carrier transport. Comprehensive study to understand the degradation mechanism of high efficiency blue organic light-emitting diodes by charge transport layers was carried out by managing the device parameters and charge transport materials. Although it has been generally accepted that the charge transport layers are important for long lifetime, the degradation mechanism was not clear. From this work, it was revealed that exciton quenching of emitters by the degradation products of charge transport layers is the main degradation pathway of blue phosphorescent and thermally activated delayed fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes. It was described that the degradation of the blue devices by the charge transport layers would be largely avoided by separating the exciton generating emitters from the charge transport layers by shifting the exciton formation zone to the center of the emitting layer. Eventually, the lifetime of the blue devices with the emission zone fall apart from the charge transport layers was not affected by the charge transport layers because exciton quenching by the degradation products of the charge transport layers was suppressed. As anomaly detection for electrical power steering (EPS) systems has been centralized using model- and knowledge-based approaches, EPS system have become complex and more sophisticated, thereby requiring enhanced reliability and safety. Since most current detection methods rely on prior knowledge, it is difficult to identify new or previously unknown anomalies. In this paper, we propose a deep learning approach that consists of a two-stage process using an autoencoder and long short-term memory (LSTM) to detect anomalies in EPS sensor data. First, we train our model on EPS data by employing an autoencoder to extract features and compress them into a latent representation. The compressed features are fed into the LSTM network to capture any correlated dependencies between features, which are then reconstructed as output. An anomaly score is used to detect anomalies based on the reconstruction loss of the output. The effectiveness of our proposed approach is demonstrated by collecting sample data from an experiment using an EPS test jig. The comparison results indicate that our proposed model performs better in detecting anomalies, with an accuracy of 0.99 and a higher area under the receiver operating characteristic curve than other methods providing a valuable tool for anomaly detection in EPS. A highly efficient anthracene‐based 5‐(4‐(10‐phenylanthracen‐9‐yl)phenyl)‐5H‐benzofuro[3,2‐c]carbazole (ATDBF) with nearly 100% exciton utilization efficiency is developed for highly efficient nondoped blue organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) through inter‐ and intramolecular triplet exciton up‐converting mechanisms. The ATDBF emitter opens hybridized hot excitons, triplet–triplet fusion (TTF), and mixed TTF/hot exciton channels for triplet exciton to singlet exciton conversion. The molecular design adopting a benzofuro[3,2‐c]carbazole (BFCz) donor manages the singlet and triplet excited states for hybridized triplet exciton up‐conversion mechanisms, which enable a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7.93% in the ATDBF blue device with color coordinates of (0.15, 0.06). By collecting data from sensor devices, wireless sensor networks enable consumer product management in indoor environments. However, most off-the-shelf sensor devices are battery-powered and hence hampered by the limitation of battery life. In this context, wireless rechargeable sensor networks (WRSNs) which adopt wireless power transfer (WPT) technique – leveraging electromagnetic waves for sensor energy replenishment – have emerged as a promising scenario for the architecture of self-sustainable and resilient sensor networks. Nevertheless, while the rapid proliferation of studies on discussion WPT and data collection in WRSNs has been witnessed in recent years, their unilateral investigation makes them insufficient to construct high-performance WRSNs. Therefore, this paper firstly explores joint WPT and data collection in a WRSN and accordingly presents a medium access control protocol called FarMac. The WRSN employs multiple sink nodes which can either conduct WPT to or data collection from numerous deployed sensor devices. The sensor devices, on the other hand, fall into two categories: lethargic sensor device which needs energy replenishment from the sink nodes before conveying its data and energetic sensor device which can disseminate its data directly. In this context, FarMac leverages a centralized algorithm to achieve multisource WPT for maximizing the transferred power to a lethargic sensor device. In addition, each lethargic sensor device executes a distributed algorithm to compute its necessary energy harvesting time. Furthermore, FarMac achieves concurrent WPT and data collection through interference cancellation technique. However, multi-component EML devices impose limitations such as difficulty in accurately controlling the mixing ratio and profiles in the manufacturing process, high costs, and complexity in the photophysical properties of the components. In this paper, a p-type host fused with a blue fluorescent dopant, 5,9-di([1,1′-biphenyl]-2-yl)-2′-(9H-carbazole-9-yl)3,7-dimethyl-5,5a,5a1,9,9a,16a-hexahydrospiro[5,9-diaza-16b-boraindeno[2,1-b]naphtho[1,2,3-fg]anthracene-11,9′-fluorene] (DABNA-Spiro-Cz), was designed and successfully synthesized to construct a novel EML structure. Completely fused within DABNA-Spiro-Cz, the p-type host and blue fluorescent dopant can independently perform their respective roles. An exciplex is formed between n-type host and p-type host unit in the DABNA-Spiro-Cz molecule and its energy is effectively transferred to the blue fluorescent dopant unit in DABNA-Spiro-Cz. In other words, a degree of freedom is earned from a conventional 3-component exciplex-dopant system. A high external quantum efficiency of 14.9 % was achieved thanks to " z ero-radius of intramolecular e nergy t ransfer in exci plex (ZETPLEX)" system, which is completely non-conventional and novel. We believe the ZETPLEX mechanism opens a new era of designing emissive materials and paves a new way of constructing a novel EML and device architecture for highly efficient OLEDs. We investigated the effect of hydrogen doping on characteristics of InGaTiO (IGTO) electrode with high conductivity and transmittance during sputtering process. After hydrogen doping, the 300 nm-thick IGTO:H electrode showed lower sheet resistance of 13.79 Ω/square compared to sheet resistance (69.2 Ω/square) of pure IGTO electrode without change of optical transmittance. In addition, wet etching reaction rate of IGTO:H electrode for patterning process was significantly accelerated after hydrogen doping. Possible explanation for hydrogen doping effect on electrical properties and wet etching process of the IGTO:H electrode was suggested. The doped hydrogen influenced the electrical characteristics through the passivation of dangling bonds and oxygen vacancies. Moreover, it significantly impacts crystalline structure, consequently altering the etching rate. Using patterned IGTO:H electrodes, we fabricated red organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) to show feasibility of the IGTO:H electrodes. External quantum efficiency and current efficiency of the red OLED with IGTO:H (10%) were higher than IGTO electrode without hydrogen doping, indicating that hydrogen doping is an effective method to improve the film properties and IGTO:H electrode can serve as a prospective transparent anode for both flexible and rigid OLEDs. • Intermolecular interaction between host and deep blue Pt complex utilized in WOLEDs. • By varying the ratio of n-type host, a wide range of colors was achieved. • Highly efficient WOLEDs were realized with a single deep blue Pt(II) complex. Previous studies on white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) using a single Pt dopant relied on square-planar Pt complexes, exhibiting various emission characteristics due to ligand-centered π-π interactions. However, this approach limits the range of the materials selections to those with excimer or aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties. In this study, a new method for creating WOLEDs with a single Pt dopant is proposed. We observed the emergence of an intermolecular interaction, specifically the formation of an exciplex due to π-π interaction between the n-host (ET) and the Pt complex, leading to a low-energy yellow emission. By varying the mixing ratio of ET and Pt complex, a spectrum of emissions ranging from pure blue to yellow was achievable. Consequently, we constructed 3-stack tandem devices, leveraging color variations based on the ET:Pt ratio. As a result, we successfully achieved a cool white emission with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 66.7, International Commission on Illumination (CIE) coordinates of (0.294, 0.380). Additionally, through optimization of the device structure, external quantum efficiency (EQE) was enhanced from 18.3% to 21.9%. This novel and simple device architecture adjusting intermolecular interaction based on molecular geometry between ET and Pt(II) complex provides a solution to materials limitations in WOLEDs.
