Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM) is a distinct clinicobiological entity defined as a B-cell neoplasm characterized by a lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate in bone marrow (BM) and IgM paraprotein production. Cytogenetic analyses were historically limited by difficulty in obtaining tumor metaphases, and the genetic basis of the disease remains poorly defined. Here, we performed a comprehensive analysis in 42 WM patients by using a high-resolution, array-based comparative genomic hybridization approach to unravel the genetic mechanisms associated with WM pathogenesis. Overall, 83% of cases have chromosomal abnormalities, with a median of three abnormalities per patient. Gain of 6p was the second most common abnormality (17%), and its presence was always concomitant with 6q loss. A minimal deleted region, including MIRN15A and MIRN16-1, was delineated on 13q14 in 10% of patients. Of interest, we reported biallelic deletions and/or inactivating mutations with uniparental disomy in tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor–associated factor 3 and TNFα-induced protein 3, two negative regulators of the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway. Furthermore, we confirmed the association between TRAF3 inactivation and increased transcriptional activity of NF-κB target genes. Mutational activation of the NF-κB pathway, which is normally activated by ligand receptor interactions within the BM microenvironment, highlights its biological importance, and suggests a therapeutic role for inhibitors of NF-κB pathway activation in the treatment of WM. A molecular cooling fan (MF) is a nanocomposite coating technology, where the quantized lattice motions in nanomaterials are assembled to absorb heat from the heat source, promote to higher vibration states, and emit excess energy by radiation. Using a factorial design technique, seven factors were investigated to optimize MF cooling performance and efficiency. The results show that a MF coating prepared with 8 nm sized multiwalled carbon nanotubes can cool down 4 °C lower than that assembled with 50–80 nm due to higher activity of lattice motions. The MF makes equilibrium temperature cool down by 10 and 20 °C at input operation voltages of 35 and 55 V on the same heat dissipation unit (HDU). Using the optimal factors, a MF coating was applied on commercial HDUs. The results demonstrated that molecular fan action can reduce the size and mass of the heat-sink module, offering a low cost LED light unit.

The rapid growth of online education has led to expanded opportunities for students while introducing instructors to new teaching challenges inherent to virtual learning environments. The practical responsibilities, once confined to the traditional classroom, such as handling student records, class size, teaching assistants, and instructional material now require a newmind set as well as sufficient technical knowledge. The online instructor faces additional opportunities and challenges once the class is online and students have enrolled. How to merge the best of the traditional classroom including teaching and practical responsibilities with the best of an online teaching opportunity become paramount to the online instructor. These issues and corresponding suggestions for the online instructor will be discussed in this paper.

Molecular fan, a radiative cooling by thin film, has been developed and its application for compact electronic devices has been evaluated. The enhanced surface emissivity and heat dissipation efficiency of the molecular fan coating are shown to correlate with the quantization of lattice modes in active nanomaterials. The highly quantized G and 2D bands in graphene are achieved by our dispersion technique, and then incorporated in an organic-inorganic acrylate emulsion to form a coating assembly on heat sinks (for LED and CPU). This water-based dielectric layer coating has been formulated and applied on metal core printed circuit boards. The heat dissipation efficiency and breakdown voltage are evaluated by a temperature-monitoring system and a high-voltage breakdown tester. The molecular fan coating on heat dissipation units is able to decrease the equilibrium junction temperature by 29.1 ° C, while functioning as a dielectric layer with a high breakdown voltage (>5 kV). The heat dissipation performance of the molecular fan coating applied on LED devices shows that the coated 50 W LED gives an enhanced cooling of 20% at constant light brightness. The schematics of monolayer graphene dispersion, undispersed graphene platelet, and continuous graphene sheet are illustrated and discussed to explain the mechanisms of radiative cooling, radiative/non-radiative, and non-radiative heat re-accumulation.

objectives Enrollment barriers and multidisciplinary approaches to increase cancer trials participation are presented. Recruitment barriers, research in Maryland, and a Best Practice for cancer trials are discussed. Data Sources Journal and research articles, web sites. Conclusion Clinical trials have produced prevention and care advances for cancer and other diseases. Trial enrollment is lower for minorities and underserved communities. A comprehensive program for addressing enrollment barriers should incorporate research on barriers, multidisciplinary teams, and education and trial infrastructure in community settings. Implications for Nursing Practice Health disparities training, including culturally appropriate enrollment approaches for education and retention of underserved communities, should incorporate community stakeholders and nurse/physician researchers.

The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs conducted historical archaeology studies at the Bent Canyon Stage Station site (5LA3179) in 2000. The site was determined eligible for the National %Register of Historic Places under criteria a, b, and d at the local level. The site contained important information on stage operations and the early settlement of the Purgatoire Valley during the nineteenth century. The evaluative work at the site contributes to our understanding of the archaeology and the historic settlement and development of the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site, as well as the southeastern portion of Colorado in general.
