Abstract

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technique was used to investigate the structure of carbon nanowalls (CNWs). The TEM observation clearly indicated the existence of the bended graphene structure in boundary regions between the crystallites of CNWs. According to this TEM result, the first-principles calculation was employed for the bended coronene molecule as the model of the boundary region between the crystallites of CNWs, to elucidate the mechanism of the hydrogen adsorption to CNWs. The hydrogen adsorption energies onto both on-top and hollow sites become greater as the bending angle increases, because the electronic structure of the carbon atom at the adsorption site changes from sp2 to sp3 hybridization character by natural bond orbital analysis. Our computational result is reasonably consistent with the specific feature of hydrogen adsorption to CNWs, which had been reported in our previous work by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and temperature program desorption measurements by Kinoshita et al.[Chem. Abstract

To reduce the computational demand in the best estimate plus uncertainty (BEPU) analysis, an accurate and inexpensive machine learning model is expected to be used to replace the high-fidelity RELAP5 code for rapid determination of the uncertainties on the figure of merit of interest. One of the problems associated with the application of a machine learning is overlearning. Quantum circuit learning is the quantum analogue of classical deep learning, which is expected to be less prone to overlearning because the optimized parameters are bound by unitary transformations in the quantum circuit. In this paper, quantum circuit learning is applied to the BEPU analysis of the fuel peak cladding temperature (PCT) for a small-break LOCA scenario in PWRs. The parameterized quantum circuit is trained using a small number of the RELAP5 analysis results and the prediction accuracy of the 95th percentile value of the PCTs is investigated. By optimizing the multipliers of the measured basis, the 95th percentile value of the PCTs predicted by the quantum circuit learning resulted in better accuracy and smaller variability than order statistics and linear quadratic regressions.

43. Children's Play Environment after a Disaster: The Great East Japan Earthquake

Abstract

The Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011, together with the subsequent tsunami and nuclear power station accident, damaged a wide area of land. Children who experienced these terrible disasters and the post-disaster situation are still suffering in mental, physical and social ways. Children's play is an activity that they undertake naturally and which can help them recover from such disasters. This paper addresses the role of play, adventure playgrounds and other play interventions, including play buses, for the health triangle, which addresses mental, physical and social issues of children after the disasters. These interventions were shown to be effective because children could express their stress. This included play for their mental health, different body movements for their physical health and communication with playworkers and new friends for restructuring their social health. These three aspects relate to and support each other within the health triangle. An increase in childhood obesity and lack of exercise is an additional health issue in Fukushima. For a balanced recovery within the health triangle, more play environments should be provided and some improved. A child's right to play should be implemented in the recovery stage after a disaster.

Abstract

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the etiologic risk factor for cervical cancer. Some studies have suggested an association with a subset of lung tumors, but the etiologic link has not been firmly established. We performed an international pooled analysis of crosssectional studies (27 datasets, n = 3249 patients) to evaluate HPV DNA prevalence in lung cancer and to investigate viral presence according to clinical and demographic characteristics. HPV16/18 were the most commonly detected, but with substantial variation in viral prevalence between geographic regions. The highest prevalence of HPV16/18 was observed in South and Central America, followed by Asia, North America and Europe (adjusted prevalence rates = 22, 5, 4 and 3%, respectively). Higher HPV16 prevalence was noted in each geographic region compared with HPV18, except in North America. HPV16/18-positive lung cancer was less likely observed among White race (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 0.33, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.12-0.90), whereas no associations were observed with gender, smoking history, age, histology or stage. Comparisons between tumor and normal lung tissue show that HPV was more likely to be present in lung cancer rather than normal lung tissues (OR = 3.86, 95% CI = 2.87-5.19). Among a subset of patients with HPV16-positive tumors, integration was primarily among female patients (93%, 13/14), while the physical status in male cases (N = 14) was inconsistent. Our findings confirm that HPV DNA is present in a small fraction of lung tumors, with large geographic variations. Abstract

To evaluate effects of wall friction coefficients in a one-dimensional model on prediction of countercurrent flow limitation (CCFL), sensitivity computations were done for hot leg models (ratio of length to diameter L/D = 8.6) and a pressurizer surge line model without elbows (L/D = 63) and computed results were compared with measured values. When the interfacial drag coefficient of fi = 0.03 and wall friction coefficients fwG in single-phase gas flows were used, the appropriate amplification for wall friction coefficients fwL in single-phase liquid flows was NwL = 6 to fit the computed CCFL value with the measured CCFL value.
